  • Can't open Premiere CS4 project in CS5

Having issues opening a premiere cs4 project in cs5. The machine I was using with Cs4 has died, so I'm trying to continue the project with CS5.
Whenever I open the project I get a message saying "this project contained a sequence that could not be opened, No sequence preview preset or file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
I have the latest version of premiere cs5 installed, and quicktime. The footage I was using was from a Canon 7D.
    Thank you!

  • Premiere Pro & Encore Errors - CS4 / CS5 Side-By-Side Install

    Hello, all.
I am trying to use CS Production Premium CS4 and CS5 together on the same machine.  I have been getting some really crazy errors and happenings lately on Premiere Pro (CS4) and Encore (both CS4 & CS5).  In another forum in Creative Cow, someone mentioned that CS4 and CS5 should not live on the same partition, and that may be causing my problems.  You can view that thread here: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/908105.
    The long and short:
I have had CS4 installed for a while on my machine (see specs in the signature line), and installed CS5 alongside using all the default install values.
Taking the troubled applications one at a time, here are some errors I am encountering:
    PREMIERE PRO CS4
Upon launch, the following message appears:
This is what prompted someone to note that CS4 & CS5 should not live on the same partition.  I HAVE SINCE UNINSTALLED CS5 and the error still persists.
    ENCORE CS4
Upon launch, it automatcially crashes and the Windows error messages pop up:
I HAVE SINCE UNINSTALLED CS5 and the error still persists.
    ENCORE CS5:
Shorter DVDs with simple timelines seem to transcode and burn just fine.  However, with longer timelines or more complex projects, it returns the following errors:
A detailed view of the error message is below:
I have not been able to test this after the uninstall of CS5, but I can only assume that it still has this issue.
As far as I can tell, Premiere Pro CS5 works just fine.
In addition to the previous errors, After Effects and Premiere Pro CS5 also have trouble rendering to networked locations (i.e.--mapped drives). The renders fail immediately with "unknown errors".  I am not sure if this has something to do with the side-by-side configuration or not, but it is another issue that has been problematic.  The CS4 versions can render to any location with no problems.
Any guidance on how to get CS4 and CS5 to coexist will be greatly appreciated!  I do need both versions for various reasons, so getting rid of one is not an option (and as the uninstall of CS5 has proven, not effective).
    Thank you!

  • Can Premiere Pro CS5 save in format readable in 32-bit CS4?

I work on machines in various locations and laboratories and carry all of my output around in a portable HD.  Some of the systems I work with have CS5, and some have CS4.  Is there any way to have Premiere-Pro CS5 save a .prproj file in a format that can later be edited in CS4?
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Media Encoder error about activation when exporting in activated version of Premiere CS4

I get the following error when I try to export media in Premiere CS4 (Note: I have a legal and activated copy of CS4 Master Collection). In Premiere, it appears to go through (the loading progress bar fills and then disappears) but when I check the folder, it's empty. And then I notice that there's another icon in my taskbar and oh hey, it says "AMT Subsystem Error: Thank you for using Adobe Media Encoder CS5. The Adobe product that installed Media Encoder has not activated. Please launch and activate that Adobe product before continuing to use Media Encoder."
I'm using Windows 7 x64 (8gb of RAM). I tried installing the patch as suggested in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/719451 but it only claimed to not have the corresponding program installed. I tried checking to see if there were any updates - there weren't.
A quick check on my computer reveals that both Media Encoder CS4 and CS5 are installed. I looked to see if there was a way to uninstall the CS5 version but didn't see it. The only way I think I could have gotten it was though some sort of Adobe update.
Any ideas of how to fix this?

Hi: I have the same problem, but it happened very suddenly and after very specific updates. I successfully encoded a file using the CS6 encoder. Then, I allowed updates to Adobe Media Player and Adobe Air. I tried to encode with CS6 again and it had stopped working - all in the space of 5 minutes. A reboot did not help. I also have CS4 and CS 5.5 installed and have had all along (which means that you can have them and use the CS6 encoder). Since I can no longer use the CS6 encoder, but am able to launch an older one, I am using that for the moment. I hope that this reply will be of some help in finding a solution.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Playback and Performance Issues

I upgraded (2) separate editing work stations to CS5 from CS4 about a month ago. I moved from 4 to 5 to try and get rid of some problems which both work stations were encountering.
The problems since the upgrade are similiar: playback from timeline has intermittent audio drop out and video going to black during playback, (new one)-video locked up but audio kept playing-system hung and had to be rebooted.
Also, when clicking around on the timeline or scrubbing the timeline, Premiere crashes.
This type of performance on playout or timeline usage is consistent on both machines which have indentical setups and builds. None of this happens all the time but happens enough to causes problems with workflow. We edit on the work stations, dub files to playback system for air, and use a shared server to move files back and forth as needed but files are always stored locally instead of using straight from server.
    These machines are:
    Premiere Pro CS5.02
OS  WIndows 7 Pro 64 bit
    12 GB Ram, DDR3-1333 (6-2GB modules)
CPU Intel Xeon Quad Core [email protected] GHZ, 2 processors, 8 MB Cache
500 GB SATA 2 hard drive, 7200 RPM, 32 MC (System Drive)...309 GB of space avail
    (3) 1 TB SATA 2 hard drives, 7200RPM, 32 MC (3 TB, RAID0 STorage) 2.16 TB of space avail
Nvidia GE Force 9800 GT Graphics card, DUAL DVI, 1 GB
REaltek High Def Audio, Drivers 6.0.1.5953
    (1) monitor in use
output of system runs to ADVC-700 breakout box to feed playback system
I have all of my software installed on C: (309 GB of 500 GB avail)
I have all of my videos files stored on D: (Raid Storage with 2.16 TB of 3 TB avail)
The only changes I've made since installing CS5 would be to change the auto save from 20 minutes to 60 minutes. Don't know if an auto save would cause an issue on playback as I've noted above.
I'm not a computer whiz by any stretch of the imagination but I can follow directions if given for testing/eval.

Do the PPBM5 Benchmark and send the results to me by PM, in addition to sending the results to Bill as indicated. I'll have a look at what might be going on here.

  • Creative Wedding Transitions & Effects for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 or CS5.5

    Hi!
I am Professional Wedding Video Editor. before that i was using Pinnacle Studio 14 and Canopus Edius Pro but these Sucks, Now i have Intel Core i7 Extreme 64 bit OS and using Windows 7. I just Buye the Adobe Creative Suite 5. and soon i will Upgrade to Adobe CS5.5 . this is the Great Video Editing Software i Ever Seen. But i found some standard Dissolve & wipe Transitions in it.
My Question is that can i Use 3rd Party Creative Video Effects & Transitions with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5?
i want to know about thier names. that has Great transitions and smooth Transitions ever.
    Thanks
    Looking forward for Great Response.
    Regards,
    Waseem

Once, one could use the Hollywood FX Transitions (available from Pinnacle), but I believe that as of about CS4, that is no longer possible, but since Zac did not mention it (also, I think that Pinnacle no longer works with Hollywood FX, and they might be history?), I assume that CS5/CS5.5 does not support them either.
Pixelan (mentioned above) is a great resource for Transitons, and I recommed them highly.
I also have ProDAD's Adorage, but do not use those that often.
My normal Transitions are just Butt-cut, Cross-Dissolve and Dip-to-Black.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro

I am having a similar slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro, but I don't have bloated prproj file size.
Here is what I am working with:
Mac Pro intel quad core 2.8ghz
    OSX 10.6.7 Snow Leopard
    6Gigs RAM
3TB storage between 4 drives, each drive with about 50% free space
I am editing a 10 minute HD video from avchd files.  The edited video is very heavy in photoshop files with a variety of different fx including green screen.  The system has slowed down to almost a standstill.  Anytime I move the playcurser, or try to do any action, it displays the spinning top "thinking" icon and takes 15 seconds to several minutes to unfreeze.  I am often forced to force quit and I have gotten unexpected quits several times.   The program also freezes on startup frequently.
No other programs are running.  When I export with media encoder, it took about 4 hours to complete.  The last 4 or so photoshop images I added seemed to tip the program over the edge.  It had been slowing down some, but those last few really dropped the processing speed.  Before those additions, export took 30 min to 1hr.
I did delete the render files (did not check if the file size was bloated beforehand, oops) but it has not significantly affected my performance.

Do you need all of those extra pixels in the stills? Are you panning the full 4976?
Two things to consider are that if you using, say a 1920 x 1080 Sequence Frame Size, you can only see that at any time, regardless of how large the images are in pixels. If there are extra pixels, i.e. the Pan is not using all 4976 pxls., I would Scale to just what you need in PS, prior to Import.
If you are doing any Scale in PrPro, its Scaling algorithms are not as efficient, as those in PS. [Note: CS5 and 5.5 are a major improvement on that statement.]
With many large stills (the max for CS4 is 4096 x 4096, if there ARE extra pixels, pushing those around will use up resources, and quickly. As a test, some years back, I was working on a "photo wall," and was using 4000 x 4000 images. The workstation had no issues with slowness, until I got to the 5th large still. By the 8th, the Project was too slow to edit. I had to wait for everything. Luckily, I have AE, and it handles large stills much more efficiently, and much differently, than PrPro. I just moved to an AE Comp, and completed the Project, finishing up n PrPro, after I Exported from AE.
Just something to think about. With Scaling in PrPro, this is one time, where bigger is not necessarily better.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • NewTek Tricaster MPEG 2 with Premiere CS4

Just curious if anyone on here has uses or is using the NewTek Tricaster and if so what are you doing with the MPEG 2 files that it records to get a good looking DVD?
The Tricaster records footage in MPEG 2.  It has two different settings to record with.  Standard MPEG 2 and Studio Profile.  Both are "I" frame only recordings and Studio is 4:2:2.  I had read that the Studio version is not compatible with all NLE and that the standard version is much more compatible and is supposed to give you at least DV quality.  We had just gotten our Tricaster about a month ago, and I have been messing around with it trying to get as much figured out as possible before our first event with it, which was this past weekend.  I had tried recording in both the Standard and Studio Profiles and imported both into premiere without much issue.  Both looked good on monitors inside of Premiere and I left it at that.
Our first event that I used the Tricaster with was a Highschool graduation with 3 cameras that was being streamed to the internet and then all 250 students are getting a copy of the program on DVD.  I recorded it with the standard profile and checked it out after the event and it all looked good.  Our second event with it was the next day and since we were not delivering the content on DVD to the client I recorded it with the Studio profile just to try it out.  Much to my surprise on Monday when I burned the DVD from the graduation (recorded with standard MPEG 2) it looked very soft and not suitable to deliver to all the students.  I do not have the exact setting that I used since I am not at my office right now but the basic workflow is as follows.
    1.  Moved the MPEG files from the tricaster to my edit computer via an external drive.
    2.  Created a new Premiere Pro Project
    3.  Sequences settings were set to Desktop, MPEG 2 (ofter specifics I cannot remember)
    4.  Dropped in my timeline
    5.  Trimmed start and end.
    6.  Export MPEG 2 DVD (NTSC High Quality Preset), Quality changed to 5, Constand Bit Rate of 7 Mbps.
    7.  Import into a new Encore Project, set chapters every 5 min, built a DVD Image
    8.  Burn the DVD with Image Burn.
The DVD is really bad.  I just could not pass this out to anyone.  The closeup shots look OK, not great but OK.  Any wide shots look really bad.  I have not been able to come up with any combination of settings to get the DVD to look any better.  I did not have a ton of time to mess with it on Monday and plan on trying some other things next week when I am back in the office.
Then I tried the other program that was recorded with the Studio Profile MPEG 2.  The first attemp all the movement looked strobed.  Any movement had studder.  I tried several different things to get this to look good and I "Think" what I did when I finally got a good looking DVD was in my timline in Premiere I set it to "Interlace Consectutive Frames" and then exported my MPEG 2 DVD files.  It does not make sense to me why that made any difference since it is a inlerlaced format to start with, but what ever it takes to get it to look right I guess.
If you have any interest in reading what NewTek says about the MPEG formats you can see it at.
    http://www.newtek.com/faq/index.php?primary=3D%20Arsenal&question=408
If any of you are using the Tricaster and can get good looking DVD's after recording with the Standard MPEG 2 format please let me know your workflow.  I would really like to avoid having to re-edit this graduation.
I am going to be using the Tricaster for a college graduation Wed thru Fri and I will be recording it to the Studio Profile, since it appears that I can get a good looking DVD with that, but I will also be recording to outside recorders (both to Tape and to a HDD) until I can get this Tricaster MPEG 2 stuff figured out.
    Thanks
    Phil

Bottom line is the mainconcept mpeg encoder that is licensed into CS4 is garbage, it looks terrible with any settings. I have a tricaster also but never moved anything from it to premiere to encode to dvd. We render everything out from Premiere as an AVI and then use Grass Valley (canopus) Procoder to encode it to MPG for our broadcast server or DVD. It encodes much faster and looks twice as good. I can encode 3 hours of video in 14 minutes on it's high quality setting at 8mbit cbr.
here is an example, from left to right its CS4, CS5, CS5, Procoder.
one of the cs5 encodes had bad settings but the other one and procoder are much sharper then CS4.

  • Need help with Premiere CS4 Export...

I currently shoot HD video with a Canon Vixia HF S10 digital camcorder (link goes to Canon's site). I shoot at the highest quality available, MXP 24 Mbps (1920x1080). When I bring the video over to my machine, it comes over as an .mts file which is the AVCHD file format (link goes to Wikipedia article on the format). I import these .mts files into Adobe Premiere (CS4). I import them into a AVCHD 1080p30 (29.97) Sequence. I do my editing, adding title screens, music, whatever. The problem comes when I go to export the final product into a usable format.  I've tried all different sorts of formats to export to and I can't get any usable results. If I select, for instance, H.264 HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality (a preset within Premiere) the video comes out extremely choppy...as in the audio will play and the video will hitch along and be mostly out of sync dropping whole sections of the video as it tries to catch up.
My end goal is to be able to export two versions...a higher quality (maybe burned to a DVD or Blu-Ray) and a lower quality (but still HD) for uploading to YouTube/SmugMug.
Any help or thoughts anyone may have would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm... My CS5/AVCHD 1st Impressions http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0 includes a link to what I built for CS5
Your computer is going to be a bit slower, but I don't see anything really obvious that would cause the output to be choppy
But... have you considered converting to HDV to see if that edits better for you?
    Convert AVCHD to HDV http://forums.adobe.com/thread/390605?tstart=0
or use Cineform Neo Scene http://www.cineform.com/neoscene/
Added... Looking at my notes, I use a different AVCHD setting in CS5... have you tried other AVCHD project settings?

  • How to import youtube video into premiere cs4

I installed adobe premiere cs4 and was really astonished by the fact that it's not possible to import a video downloaded from YouTube, but it is needed to convert it firstly. This application is weight about 3GB on my hard disk and now I must search for a plugin to import a video from YT.
It would be perfectly if i could download a video directly into premiere, and also upload finished file up to youtube.
The only result of my search is a paid plugin named moyea-importer - USD 70, but it seems  it works only with earlier versions of premiere, before cs4.
Is there any free plugin for this task. Or any similar solution.
If not - in which format should I download youtube video, in which format should I convert it (what is the best converter for that) to make it editable in premiere.
    Working on win xp sp3.
    Thanks.

    Also, CS4 has a different forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premierepro_previous?view=all
Maybe a MOD will come along and move this discussion to the correct forum
As Mark says, CS4 is old... and CS5 and later were complete rewrites of the source code, to be 64bit instead of 32bit, so internal operations are not the same

  • Cannot export to Quicktime in Premiere Pro CS5

This problem has been addressed before, but the solution, to simplify the name of the file, is not working for me.
I am not able to export to Quicktime.  The error is "Unable to create or open an output file."
    Here are my parameters:
    Premiere Pro CS5, recently updated.
    Windows 7, recently updated.
    PC HP Pavilion desktop
Source footage is HDV in an mp4 codec via the CS5 timeline.
I have disabled my anti-virus software (ESET).
I have no other video-related programs running.
Clips appear in the Export screen (for preview) perfectly.
Exporting to any other codec or container, including H.264 (an Apple product) works fine.  To make things
a little more interesting, the last time I tried to export to Quicktime (a year ago) I was using PPr CS4.  Export
to Quicktime worked perfectly well.  Now it does not.  Now when I activate "start queue" in Media
Encoder for CS4, the green check mark appears without the clips being encoded at all. Once again, CS4
encodes to other codecs perfectly well.
Sounds like in the intervening year I may have downloaded some interfering software, but like editors
everywhere, I download a lot of these things.  Finding the culprit would take days (weeks!). Are there
    any prime suspects?
Alternatively, are there any other ways to export in high quality to let Mac users easily access PC
    generated footage?

Mac users are the ones who choose to use an OS which creates this type of compatibility issue.  Honestly, I'd just create an AVI and let them solve the problem.
Your clients must really appreciate you as a great "solution providor" Jim!

  • What's hardware should upgrade for Using Premiere CS4 to editing (AVCHD)m2ts file?

What's hardware or software should upgrade for Using Premiere CS4 to editing (AVCHD)m2ts file?
1st question: when i try to do editing by using Premiere CS4 AVCHD sequence timeline, the edting monitor seems not smooth (like wearing goggles) & delay, and when i use AME to encode m2ts file (which not yet edit) to AVI file (about 1 hour), it take 2h 13min to finish, is it normal?
2nd question: i use mpeg2 HD 1440 file to do eding, the edting monitor also not very smooth but better than using m2ts file, after editing done, i try to encode these mpeg2 HD 1440 file (which edited about long 1 hr) to a New file mpeg2 1440 X 1080i HQ or even mpeg2 Pal DV HQ file, the encoding was not runthe encoding after wait for half an hour. How many hours it take usually????
3rd question: i use m2ts file video file to export as a Bitmap, 1 frame 1 picture bitmap, it take long time too, about 1 or 2min to finish encoding, if i export more than 1 picture, it take even more time, i have experienced it, 3 or 4 pictures need about 10 or 15 min to finish encoding. i used to using mpeg2 HD 1440 file (which edited file) to export frame as picture, it not run the encoding at all. WHY ????
i'm new in Premiere CS4,so i got many question about Premiere CS4, usually i use Premiere Pro 1.5 version

I don't think a core-2 will work very well with AVCHD... you need at least an Intel i7 920... or whatever is current
My CS5/AVCHD 1st Impressions http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0 includes a link to the computer I built... since the GTX 285 is no longer sold, I would now go with a GTX 460 or whatever is the current "best bang for the buck" - AND I would buy 4Gig-by-3Sticks memory to be able to expand from 12Gig to 24Gig if needed
For my home hobbyist, family movies (which means that I am not trying to recreate Star Wars with video effects or many layers) AVCHD editing is "as smooth as spreading warm butter on hot toast" (also the MP4 video from wife's Flip camera)
