Untitled cd now appears in my finder sidebar - won't delete

hi, all About 20mins ago a shortcut appeared in my Finder sidebar, for something called Untitled CD. Instead of having an eject button next to it, like an actual cd would have, this has a black and yellow wheel next to it. This is of particular annoyance to me, as i am now unable to burn any CD's. Instead a message pops up saying burn is currently in use by another program. I have tried everything to delete it, but it just wont go! Whats more interesting is that I have a macbook air, and the icon appears even when my external dvd drive isn't plugged in.

You have to hold down command, and drag it iut of the sidebar.

  • Trashed an app, but app icon in Finder sidebar won't "leave"

I downloaded an application called Error Codes; thought it would help me understand some of the error codes that pop up during iTunes downloads.  Wasn't helpful; decided to trash it.  The app, of coursre, was in the applications folder; I had its icon in the Finder sidebar too. I trashed the app, but I can't get rid of the sidebar icon; can't even click on it.  Tried dragging it out, it just flies back to it's spot.  How do I get rid of it?

Try holding down the command key when dragging it out of the sidebar. A "poof" should appear, indicating that when you let go it will vanish (poof!).

  • My Finder Sidebar Won't Resize

My finder window's sidebar appears to be locked and I cannot resize it.  I've read that when putting my mouse in the line between the sidebar and the files area to the right it should change to a bar cursor that I can then use to resize the sidebar.  But the cursor never changes when I do this so I cannot resize the sidebar.  Any suggestions to re-enable this?

If you can't get this to happen...EDIT: Well it did not include the cursor as a cross in the image for forget the screenshot.
Then go to Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences trash these files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • I sync my iPad. Now everything is messed up playlists and music are gone. Weird stuff showed up. And now I can't find the option to delete or make new playlists. 6.1.2 is my newest version!! NEED HELP!!

So I don't sync my iPad very often. My dad and I share a computer. And I decided to do it the other day. I am pretty sure I did it all correctly selecting music that I wanted not deleting playlists but it seems to be that they are gone. And music I didn't want has appeared. And now I don't have an option (with this new iOS 6.1.2) to make new playlists or edit music I don't want out.
I know I need help figuring those two things out 1 how to make a play list. There isn't a "add" button anymore in that screen I have a "you have no playlist"with a button underneath that says "go to iTunes Store" why I would need the store for that, I do not know.
Then in the songs, artists, albums sections where you used to be able to hit "edit" button to delete the music you have that you don't want. I don't seem to be able to do anything at all to get rid of the random music I have.
I need help. I know my iPad fairly well but I am not super savvy with it either.

Is there a "New" button at the top right of the Playlists section of Music?
There is no Edit button to delete music, swipe sideways on the song to reveal the delete button. Tap and hold on the artwork in Artists and albums to reveal the (X) button to delete. Or connect the iPad back up to iTunes on the computer and check your sync settings for music to ensure you are syncing the right content.

  • IPhone not appearing on Finder sidebar

    Hi,
I connect my iPhone(4) to my MacBook (10.5.8) and it is successfully recognized by iTunes and iPhoto but it nevertheless does not appear on the Finder sidebar.
I realize this is a problem that has already been discussed and resolved on an archived conversation but the solution provided doesn't help me with my own problem.
I do not have any photos saved in the camera roll from any other sources other than the iPhone's camera itself.
I got the phone very recently and I don't think it ever actually appeared on the sidebar, but, as I said, I never had any issues with it being recognized by iTunes or iPhoto.
    Any help? Thanks in advance.

I was actually hoping to manually copy my photos from the iPhone onto the computer, rather than sync them through iPhoto...
Good to know that everything is working as it should, I guess. I'm new to the iPhone but I know that a friend of mine (also on iPhone4) does just this to copy-past his photos, and his appears in finder; of course he's jailbroken his own phone.
Is there any other way I can copy my photos from the iphone to the mac without using iPhoto?

  • How can I remove icons from the Finder sidebar?  Were transferred when I set up laptop from my desktop computer.  Tried dragging off but that didn't work.

How can I remove icons from the Finder sidebar?  Transferred info from my Mac Pro desktop computer (using target mode) and there were folder icons on the Mac Pro Finder sidebar that are now on the MacBook Finder sidebar, even though these folders do not exist on the MacBook.  Tried to drag them off, which is the usual way to get rid of folders that the user adds to the sidebar (as opposed to those that can be added via the Customize Toolbar dropdown menu) but was unsuccessful.  I then unchecked all of the Customize Toolbar menu items and the folder icons still remained.  What else can I do?

Did you hold the Command (Apple) key while dragging them off the sidebar? That usually makes them go *poof*.

  • My iPhone doesn't appear in the finder

When I connect my iphone to my computer it doesn't appear in the sidebar. How to solve this problem?
thanks by advance for your answers!!

It shouldn't appear in the finder sidebar, only the iTunes one (and iPhoto too).

  • What happened to the finder sidebar menu?

I have had to spend sooooo much time trying to locate files that I just closed! What happened to the Finder menu that listed TODAY, PAST WEEK, etc?  It's nervewracking!  I don't want to open the files but upload them.  I don't like that I can't just find them easilyl in the menu format before...... I'm not sure I like this so-called upgrade.... on the iphone it's cool, but on the MAC.. not so sure I like it.

Under your stuff, you can click on Profile and it'll show your equipment - you can change it there.
Now, as for the Finder Sidebar, if you go to Finder Preferences and click on Sidebar, it will show everything that can be shown there. Some changes were made in Lion - one of them is "all my files" - I don't need that, so I unchecked it, but you may want to try it to see if that can be useful for you. And, under the Go Menu, you can use Go To Folder. I never used any of the options you've used simply because I've never needed that. Maybe you can arrange/file your stuff by name so it'll be easier to find?

  • Customize finder sidebar

Is there a way to customize the appearance of the Finder Sidebar? Specifically, I'd like to be able to change the font, or at least change its size onscreen. I have my Finder set to display file names in 10 point type, but the Sidebar labels insist on remaining enormous and ugly.
Is there a fix to this?
    Thanks!

There may be third-party software like TotalFinder 1.3.2 you might try, but I don't recall seeing anything that changes sidebar font size.

  • How do I restore missing Finder sidebar?

My Finder sidebar won't show Home, Desktop, Applications, All My Files -- even though they are checked in Finder Preferences.
I tried three suggestions I spotted in the forums, but didn't fix:
    1. Disk utility repairs
    2. Deleting 'com.apple.sidebarlists.plist'  (file not in Library)
    3. View - show sidebar.
    I have MBA, 1.6GHz, 4GB, v10.7.4
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Michael,
I had the same problem and solved it a very easy way. Infact I felt pretty silly. Haha hopefully this solves your problem too.
Close all finder windows so when you click the finder icon it opens a new finder window, one with no sidebar. Then go View>Show Toolbar
Then once the toolbar is enabled, the view/hide sidebar toggle becomes activated in that same menu.
Good Luck! Let me know if that fixed it.

  • File appears in finder sidebar and I can't delete

For whatever reason, my finder sidebar has one of my thousands of files which has made its way into it.  I'd like to get rid of this, but have tried finder prefs without success. Clicking on it just opens the file.file://localhost/Users/home/Desktop/Finder.tiff

Found the answer in an earlier (2008!) discussion.  Ctrl click!

  • I accepted a certificate that "appeared" found and now I can't find it to untrust it

I'm almost sure there was no other option than "accept", and probably didn't think it too much because I know there's a way to untrust certificates if I find out bad reputation online.
Well, I found "The USERTRUST Network" has been scamming before so I went to untrust it, but I didn't find it in the list.
The name was (I copied it) "USERTrust Legacy Secure Server CA" by "The USERTRUST Network"
The buttons are not clickable for the whole category (The USERTRUST Network) and I couldn't find "cert8.db" to delete it, as I found in another post.
How can I find it or untrust the whole group?

    Try this location:
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Encryption: Certificates > View Certificates : Servers
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

  • Why can my wife see my Macbook in her Finder sidebar, but I can't see hers?

Wanting to share files, I checked my Finder sidebar and couldn't find my wife's Macbook listed there. I could have sworn that it used to be displayed there under 'SHARED', but even the 'SHARED' is no longer visible. On my wife's Macbook, she has 'SHARED' with the name of my Macbook underneath, with her able to select it and access files, like I should be able to. I have checked settings for Finder and Sharing in Preferences, and our settings, from what I can see, are identical. If I select Finder, and click 'Go' in the menu and select Network, her Macbook is listed, and I can connect to it from there. Once more, in Finder preferences, if I tick 'Connected Servers' under 'Show these items on the desktop', my wife's Macbook appears on the desktop.
Can someone please tell me why I can't get it to appear under 'SHARED' on my sidebar, just like she can with mine?
    We both have Leopard 10.5.2.
    Thanks.

Thanks for your post, but as I said, I have checked both our settings and they are identical- as my wife must have these checked in order to see mine, then I must (and indeed do) have them checked too.
However I have just, in the last minute, found the source of the problem. Open DNS. This was the one thing I have done on mine and not on my wife's. I have removed the open DNS servers from my DNS list and rebooted, and SHARED is now visible again on the sidebar along with my wife's Macbook under it. I found this site here which explains it a little more, along with a way to fix the problem-
    http://www.youbitch.org/blog/2007/nov/11/note-to-self-missing-shared-in-leopard- sidebar/
However, the solution looked too complicated for me, so I just removed Open DNS instead- it's not worth the hassle.
