Untitled file names
Question: How do I still have "Untitled" files when I named them when I captured them?
Background: I went by Larry Jordan's (www.larryjordan.biz/articles/lj_archive.html) article and set up my "boot disk" for FCE projects and my second internal hd as my "Media Disk" for FDE media files. Before capturing the video I made a folder with project name. I saved 3 clips in the folder and named each one "blahblahwedding1", 2, and 3. I closed the program. when I restarted FCE it gave me the ...files offline message and called for untitled1, 2, 3.
I always use Capture Clip. I capture 3 to 5 tapes per wedding. I capture entire tapes at a time but be warned: Doing this may cause issues, especially with speed changes. It may be best to capture nice long chunks at a time, like Morning Prep, the Church, the Park, Speeches, etc.
Be circumspect in your reel naming ... 001 for Tape 1 etc. If you ever need to rebuild the project, this becomes important. With Capture Clip, you will need to leave a little pre-roll and post-roll space on the clips.
When using Capture Clip, if you call the clip The Church, it appears that way in the Browser as well as in your Scratch Disk so it is simpler that way

Nowhere to type file name in save as dialog, is this normal . . .
Hello;
here's the problem;
I'm having some problems with my main worksation and I'm going to probably rebuild it from scratch
(HDD problem & an AVG Baked registry & network stack)
so I've started by installing AA 2.0 (Full) onto one of my backup systems
& will follow with AA3.0 (Upgrade) if I can verify that the system can do the job for me
here's the problem;
I installed AA2.0 which is needed to get AA3.0(upgrade) to install
but I haven't activated or registered yet because I don't want to waste any activations
if I can't use the system
is it normal for the save as dialog to not have a place to type a file name when AA isn't activated?
System:
HP/Compaq DC7600
P4HT enabled 3.2GHz
2GB DDR2 533MHz RAM
Lots of HDD Space on 5 HDDs
sidebar:
why is my insertion point moved all over the page while I type this in firefox?thanks for the reply:
don't know if this some sort of a display redraw issue:
but if I just hit enter I get the file saved as untitled.wav (which is floating in the middle of the screen not in the correct location)
and the file ends up in "My Music Folder" (which I never use, but can't change folders either)
-good grief I hate M$ for their My . . . crap folders
the system is using similar Intel-GMA integrated graphics as my main workstation
the only difference is processors and the chipset is one generation back
my main workstation has 965ry and the backup has 945g -

CA Forum: Exporting
hi,
we are using crystal report server XI. in this i am not able to export a report with particular report name. see the following steps.
Generate a report. Click the Export icon.Select the format in which the report has to be stored and click Ok button
Expected Behavior:The Save As form with the report name as file name should be displayed
Actual BehaviorFile download window is displayed showing the name of report as crystalviewer.rpt and when Save button is clicked, the Save AS dialog with the filename as Crystalviewer is displayed. The user has to specify a meaningful report namePost Author: foghat
CA Forum: Exporting
This sounds about right, I can't recall if I've never seen Crystal default to the .rpt name when exporting a report. In developer XI, reports saved on the enterprise server have some crazy long non-nonsensical unique identifier on export. If the report is saved locally, it just gives untitled.xxx on export. That said, I find the users usually end up renaming the report file name anyways, so not a big issue. -
Untitled File Already in Use or Protected
Hi everyone,
from the starting point when I click on the text editor of Apple Work, a box appears; it says: "untitled file already in use or protected; open a copy?", but I just opened AppleWorks and not one AW file was opened or protected.
I have a .doc file in the trash, and every time I try to empty the trash, another similar box opens (can't empty the trash because the .doc file is still in use - Stop - Continue-). Useless to say that it's not in use at all.
Help would be SO appreciated...
Thanks.Unless your new account has the same user name, it is almost certainly a permissions issue. Select this templates folder in the Finder, Get Info (File > Get Info, ⌘ i or through the contextual menu), click the triangle next to Details under Ownership & Permissions & change the permissions on the folder to Read & Write for all users &, lastly, click the button to apply to enclosed items. Hopefully, this will reset them. I have found that sometimes the change isn't applied to items in folders inside the first folder, so you may have to do this in several steps.

Running CS6 on Mac OS 10.9.5 - File Name Change - Flash
- When one of my students was working with Flash they some how managed to save their name to the program so that when you create a new file their name is part of the file name. I am unsure how to remove this as I don't see anything in the preferences panel to change this so the example would be ** joe smith : untitled-1.fla** Suggestions???? Thanks!!

MY colleague has a certain setting in Acrobat that allows him to keep the original file name when he converts documents from Word to PDF. Every time I convert Word, Acrobat overwrites the filename and names it "untitled.pdf". I would like to retain the original name and for Acrobat to simply add the .pdf file extension to the original name. How do I do this?
I have no idea what you are doing for sure. Does your WORD document have a name. I opened a WORD document and selected the Acrobat Distiller printer for AA5, I got the file menu for selecting the name and it was automatically filled in with the DOC changed to PDF. If you are using PDF Maker, then you will need to search there - I removed PDF Maker for AA5 years ago and can't view that part. I see the same types of options in PDF Maker for AA8.1.2 as I saw in the printer for AA5 and guess it is the same. The untitled.pdf suggests that you never saved the original DOC file so it has a name.

Set Folder Name From File Name Inclosed.
Hello scripters,
There has been quite a few topics about setting file names from parent folders. I believe it's possible but not sure how to reverse this process. That is to say set the folder name from a file in the folder. This is what I'm imagining.
I've got a folder. In the folder are 100 folders with the names "untitled folder xxx" In side I've got files that are all named and numbered.
For example,
untitled folder/B-day 001~050.jpg
untitled folder 50/At The Park 001~020.jpg
I would like a script to change the name of the parent folder of the files that it houses.
So untitled folder becomes
B-Day
untitled folder 50 becomes
At The Park
etc…
I think getting the name of the first file (minus the index number) would be easiest.
Any help or futher questions are greatly appreciated.
MaximilianWorking backwards...
Assuming all the files have the same name structure (e.g. end in the format "xxx~xxx.jpg" you can get the base name using:
<pre class=command>set baseName to characters 1 through -13 of filename as text</pre>
This cuts off the last 12 characters of the file name.
Once you have a folder, you can get the names of files in the folder via the Finder. for sanity's sake I'd ask the Finder for the first item, just in case there's more than one file:
<pre class=command>set filname to name of first item of (files of folder theFolder)</pre>
And if all the folders are in one top folder, you can iterate through them like:
<pre class=command>repeat with eachFolder in (every folder of folder topFolder)</pre>
So now, string it all together:
<pre class=command>tell application "Finder" -- we'll use the Finder to do the legwork
set topFolder to (choose folder with prompt "Choose the top level folder" ) -- get the top folder
repeat with eachFolder in (every folder of folder topFolder)
set fileName to name of first file of (files of folder topFolder)
set baseName to characters 1 through -13 of fileName as text
set name of folder eachFolder to baseName
end repeat
end tell</pre>
Note there's no error checking - the script will fail if there are no files in any particular folder, but it should get you going. -
How to modify file name with the press of a radio button
Hello,
I have a simple task that I am having some trouble completing. This is what my program is doing:
My VI takes 3 angles between -180 and 180 and computes the XYZ coordinate using a mathscript node. Then every time I press Trigger, the current 3 angles and their corresponding XYZ coordinate are written to a spreadsheet file.
I need to tweak the VI some more to accomplish the following:
The first time I select the radio button Point (or Line), I would like the spreadsheet file name to be "Point001" (or "Line001"). Then I want to press the Trigger 10 times, write to that file just created, "Point001" (or "Line001"), and after the 10th Trigger, I would like the radio button Point (or Line) to become automatically unselected.
The next time I select the radio button Point (or Line), I would like the spreadsheet file name to now be "Point002" (or "Line002"). Then I want to press the Trigger again for 10 times, write to that file just created, "Point002" (or "Line002"), and after the 10th Trigger, I would like the radio button Point (or Line) to become automatically unselected, again.
And so on...
Basically, I am trying to increment the filename Pointxxx each time I select the radio button. I want to write to that file 10 times, at which point the radio button Point automatically becomes unselected.
I hope it is clear to what I am trying to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Untitled 1.vi 67 KBI attached my working VI.
Now, the problem is that Trigger is saving to a different file each time as opposed to having the 10 Triggers save to one file.
This is what is happening now:
When I have the radio button Point (or Line) selected:
Trigger (1st time) saves to "point1" (or "line1")
Trigger (2nd time) saves to "point2" (or "line2")
Trigger (3rd time) saves to "point3" (or "line3")
Trigger (10th time) saves to "point10" (or "line10")
Then, Point (or Line) is deselected.
What I need is the following:
When the radio button Point (or Line) is selected
Trigger (1st time) saves to "point1" (or "line1")
Trigger (2nd time) ALSO saves to "point1" (or "line1")
Trigger (3rd time) ALSO saves to "point1" (or "line1")
Trigger (10th time) saves to "point1" (or "line1")
Then, the radio button Point (or Line) is deselected.
Next time I select Point, I want the Triggers to write to "point2".
Can you fix this for me?
Thank you

How to keep same file name in File to Mail-Without Ripository Object??
Hello Experts,
I have a requirement where I need to pick a file and need to send that as an attachment by mail adapter through PI.
I can send the file as attachment but the file name is being changed.
For example, the source file with name "Vendor_2011_11_06" is being transfered but when I am checking the mail box,the file is coming as attachment but the name has been changed to "Untitled.bin".I want the same file name as it was in source SFTP server.
Do any one have any idea that how can we set the file name at receiver mail adapter?
**Note:I have not created any repository objects, simply configured the ID object with dummy Service Interface name.So no mapping exist.Hi,
For example, the source file with name "Vendor_2011_11_06" is being transfered but when I am checking the mail box,the file is coming as attachment but the name has been changed to "Untitled.bin".I want the same file name as it was in source SFTP server.
by using MessageTransformBean you can acheive this.
Transform.ContentDisposition------ attachment or inline For example, attachment;filename=u201Dabc.txtu201D
Transform.ContentDescription------- Description
Transform.ContentType------Specifies the payload type, for example, text/plain

Force InDesign to default .indd file name to match .indt name
Hi
I work for a photography company that uses dozens of InDesign .indt templates to create customised .indd documents and then PDFs for printing. Employees access the templates from a local server, and then save the .indd file with a specific name in another location. So far, so normal.
Now, it's critical that the .indd file be named correctly in order for our printing software to recognise it. At the moment the default file name for a given .indd in the 'save as' dialogue will be something like 'Untitled-36.indd', which we have to very carefully change to the appropriate name for the rip to read it.
The .indt files already have the appropriate name, so is there a way to force InDesign to save the .indd with the same name as its parent template by default, rather than 'Untitled-XX.indd' like it does now? It might seem trivial, but it would actually save us a lot of time, not to mention the print errors, if this were possible.
We're running CS6 on Windows 7 machines, and accessing the templates and saving documents to a Linux server.
Thanks!
Ryan. You cannot change the behavior for naming when saving from templates.
There is no structural difference between a .indt file and a .indd. the different extension simply triggers a default opening method: .indd opens as original and for safety (so you don't accidentally overwrite them with content) .indt files open by default as untitled copies. IF and it's a big IF, your people can be counted on to never hit Save (only Save AS), and always to navigate to new folders to save the documents, then saving the templates as .indd (and you can just change the extension on existing ones) would preserve the names. Marking these "templates" as read-only should add a layer of safety. -
Show file name as the title for a photo in Photos app
If my memory is correct in iPhoto when you hovered the cursor over a photo it displayed the title assigned to the photo, but if you had not assigned a title it showed the file name. In Photos app the only way I have found to see the file name is in the info panel. Other wise it only shows untitled when you hover over the photo. You can copy/paste in the info pane but thats a pain if you have hundreds of pics with no title. I only named a few in iPhoto as I preferred to see the file name assigned by the camera. Any one know if it's possible to see file name and not untitled?
See this discussion: Re: Where are photo file names?
Photos does show the filenames only in the Info panel, and if you wrote the filename into the title field as a title, Photos will suppress it. in some cases -
File name issue in mail adapter attachement.
HI all,
i built a scenario proxy to mail in which the data will be sent as attachement to the mail id coming from proxy it self.
I added the transform bean and xi mail adapter bean correctly..
The scenario is working fine without errors...
however the issue is. i have given the file name in for module key :
Transform = Transform.ContentDisposition = attachement;filename="xyz.csv"
but while testing the attachement is coming as "untitled.txt"
i need the attachement to be named as "xyz.csv" only.
where went wrong ...please give ur inputs.
Thanx.Hi Kiran
Then there is no need to use Transformation bean for this
In Mapping map the mail package Content_type field with
text/plain;name="xyz.csv"
and select mail package and keep attachments in receiver mail adapter
This will work
Thanks

Scripting a file name change as a data merge element.
My goal of the work being done with InDesign is to utilize the Data Merge functionality of InDesign and the, already available, ability to create a new document per record in your data source where the docuement name is changed based on data contained in the data source.
A very simple example of this would be the following:
EXAMPLE
======================
Given the following data source in excel:
First_Name
Last_Name
ResultingFileName
George
Smith
c:\A45.pdf
Mary
Lopez
c:\C99.pdf
Steve
Barns
c:\tmp\XM96TR.pdf
Along with a simple two text box InDesign documents, I would perform a standard data merge with First_Name linked to one text box and Last_Name linked to another. By setting the “Record Limits Per Document” to 1, I would end up with three different documents. By default, the documents would be named Untiltled-1, Untiltled-2 and Untitled-3.
Untitled-1 would contain George and Smith. Untitled-2 would contain Mary and Lopez and Untitled-3 would contain Steve and Barns.
At this point in time, I would run the new created script, which would do the following:
Rename Untitled-1 to A45 and/or save Untitled-1 as C:\A45.pdf
Rename Untitled-2 to C99 and/or save Untitled-2 as C:\C99.pdf
Rename Untitled-3 to XM96TR and/or save Untitled-3 as c:\tmp\XM96TR.pdf
I am open to modifying the manner in which the data merge source is created. For example, separating the path and the file name into separate columns. In addition, I am flexible in putting preset information and/or file save types into the data merge document.
Please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected]
Thanks in advance for the help.
MattHi Matt,
I think it’s better to use an XML-based approach for your task.
I’ve never scripted Data Merge process, but I don’t see a straightforward way of doing it. May be you can create the 3rd textbox on pasteboard or a non-printing layer, which will contain the file path from ‘ResultingFileName’ field, and the contents from which can be used for naming & saving the current file and exporting it to pdf-file. But this approach is so clumsy.
Instead, you’d better to keep your data in excel file, or even better Access or some other database program.
Export the data from it in XML-format.
Then import it to an InDesign file and process it by script. XML support is very powerful in InDesign: you can process your data by xml-rules. I once made a script for a newspaper, which processed data for classified ads. The script applied all formatting, changed colors for different headings and placed images.

How can I batch change all my file names?
I am having a similar problem in Lr4. I made the mistake of not specifying a custom name at the beginning of a big import and I now have hundreds of photographs called "untitled_date_picture name_sequence.dng" I have created a custom renaming action that I normally use for all imports except this time I forgot to specify the custom text part at the beginning of the file string.
I cannot see how I can now batch change the "untitled" part only to show correctly. If I try and create a new renaming action by adapting a custom action i.e. by making the following:
Peru_Date_File Name (or Original File Name)_Sequence, the 'file name' part is replaced by "untitiled_111002_P1000245_12" for example. I am guessing that this is becasue the 'file name' is the entire string and not just the P1000245 part only which is the name created by the camera.
Any ideas how I can batch change the 'untitled' bit only or do I have to reimport the photos all over again?
Alternatively, is there a way to do this with the file names in Finder? I'm on a Mac by the way.
Many thanks
Chris
