Untitled Group in iPhone Contacts

Help! 8 people in the London Apple Store and 4 Genius Bar sessions have not solved this! In addition I reset my iPhone ( on the recommendation of the "Genius" in the London Apple Store - 32 minutes later all was as before! ) and this morning I followed the routine of kevmalek where he suggests finding file v22.abcddb deleting it and then seeing the "phantom" untitled group in the Mac Book Pro's Address Book where it can be ( finally ) deleted. This did not work either! I deleted the file, secured empty trash ( to make sure it was gone ) and still this untitled group did not show up in the Mac Book Pro so that I could delete it ( forever ) and then synch the iphone so that it would disappear. Not only that, but the file v22.abcddb reappeared in the original location after it had been secure trash deleted and gone through the secure empty trash! Someone out there has to know how I can get rid of this untitled group forever! Help!

Excellent Allan - all has been resolved!
For anyone else out there with this problem I would add the following detail to Allan's very good routine - some of it's quite obvious but if you're new to some of this it might save a bit of head scratching!
1) Make sure your Mac is connected to the mains ( so that power is always present and you don't lose power during this process ) and the iPhone has been synched. Keep the iPhone connected throughout this routine so that you can always access it in iTunes.
2) After where Allan says....and navigate to the Address Book archive you exported previously, choose and click on open. This brings your perfect group of Contacts ( i.e. there's no and never was, any "untitled group" in your Mac Address Book - it was only in the iPhone ) that reside on your Mac, back from the desktop into a clean Address Book.
3) Continue as Allan says: Under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes below the Advanced Section, select All Contacts ( so that you get all clean groups from the Mac into the iPhone, thus overriding and deleting the untitled group in the iPhone which you don't want ) for replace info on this iPhone. Select Apply and then Sync the Mac to the iPhone and all should be fine!
Once all is as it should be, disconnect the iPhone from the Mac. You can now move the Address Book on the Desktop into the Trash and then secure Empty Trash to clean everything up. Don't worry! All your Address Book on the Mac is new and safe and your Contacts in the iPhone are as they should be too!

  • I have an 'untitled group' in my contacts on my iphone 4. How can I rename that group please?

I have some contacts in a separate group that comes up as 'untitled group'. I want to properly name that group but have no idea how to do that and I cant find any reference to naming contact groups in the i phone online manual. Any solutions please. Thanks. Anthony

The other option is to back up your iPhone 4 to iCloud now, then reset the iPhone 6 (Settings>General>Reset All Content & Settings) and then set it up again using the most current iCloud backup.

  • How do I find my Contact Groups in iPhone 3G (v2.0)?

My Contacts are setup in Entourage on my Macbook & they auto-sync with Address Book which has all the contacts setup in Groups. iTunes successfully synched all my contacts across to my new iPhone 3G (I'm not using the iPhone for email yet - haven't set it up). When I go into Contacts, I can't see any buttons/options/anything that lets me see any groups + there's no group info showing within any individual contacts. In iTunes, when I sync, the Info tab lets me "Sync Address Book contacts' but only "All contacts" - the "Selected groups' radio button is greyed out (I can't select it) as is the checkbox for "Put new contacts created on this iPhone into the group". I don't know whether this is just a 'feature' here in Australia, but it seems odd. Am I doing something wrong or missing something here? It'd be really gr8 to get iPhone to recognise my contact groups. Any help appreciated thx.

Well blow me down & keelhaul me! I've solved my own problem. The issue appears to be that Apple won't sync Smart Groups from Address Book to the iPhone. I created a test group with a few dud contacts in Address Book; iTunes sync'ed then OK & as soon as I went into Contacts on iPhone, there suddenly was the Groups button appearing with 2 Groups - my Test Group + all Other contacts. Nice one apple - another undocumented feature! Looks like I have to do away with the Smart Groups feature & convert them all to normal Groups in Address book - bugga!

  • How do I sync Google Contacts groups to iPhone

I have all my Google contacts in different Groups.  I would like to have those same Google contacts groups synced to iPhone Contacts app. I followed instructions to sync iPhone Contacts with my Google account.  All my Google contacts did sync to iPhone but there were no iPhone contact groups created. So I have one huge list of contacts. How do I sync the Google contacts groups?  Thank you

Hi - from the"iPhone 6 User Guide for iOS 8.1",I followed the following steps:
Use your Google contacts: Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, tap your Google account,
    then turn on Contacts.
So I entered Gmail and password. Then withing Contacts app I pressed the Sync link.  Afterwards I've got all contacts in one big list, just not categorized by Google groups.

  • Why is there 2 groups in my contacts on iPhone

Why is there 2 groups in my contacts on iPhone? "All Contacts" & "My Contacts"

Hi, when you open your contacts app on the iPhone you'll find in the upper left corner a new button called "Groups" that's where you'll find the groups that you added them. Otherwise you'll have to open the app to modify or add new groups.

  • Unwanted contact groups in iPhone

iPhone4 showing contact groups that no longer exist in Microsoft Outlook10. Extremely annoying to see group folders with no data in them. I have tried resyncing and restoring many times.  Can anyone help???

When I updated the latest version for the iphone, it has groups in it now, and you can select which groups you want to sync with. This may work with multiple phones, but not sure. With Outlook 2003, I figured out a way to create groups and put contacts into them which really helps since I have 400+ contacts. I'm currently using about 30 different groups, but haven't field tested it yet. You should be able to create groups in Outlook that have only the contacts for each phone in different folders which can sync to different groups in the iphone.

  • I need to Sync/change my iPhone contacts but I can't select "Selected Groups"...?

I need to Sync/change my iPhone contacts but I can't select "Selected Groups"...?

This is what worked for me. Turned off icloud on iphone and computer. Logged into my icloud account at icloud.com via my web browser and deleted all of my contacts and calendars. I was then able to select selected contacts and selected calendars in iTunes.

  • QUESTION - I have just purchased a mac and get my contacts from my iphone 4 onto iCloud.  In settings groups all my contacts fall under hotmail. HELP

I have just purchased a mac and get my contacts from my iphone 4 onto iCloud.  In settings>groups>all my contacts fall under hotmail. HELPQuestion

Do you have iCloud configured on the iPhone and on the MacBook Air? If not, you'll want to do that for seamless transferring of contacts between the two devices. If you have an iCloud account already, set it up on the phone first. If you do not have an iCloud account I'd recommend signing up for one on the computer first as it's easier to navigate the setup screens. Once iCloud is setup on both machines the contacts will automatically sync (faster if the iPhone is on wireless).
Regarding email, you'll need to ensure the email on the iPhone is configured for IMAP/Exchange. You'll then want to configure that same account in Apple Mail (or whatever email program you intend to use on the MacBook Air).

  • Force iPhone to put newly added contacts under iPhone contact group

I want to be able to have my iphone put a newly added contact under my iphone contacts and not all contacts. Is there a way to force iphone to do this? I am using mobile me, think I remember hearing someone mention a setting in itunes for this. Don't have this option with mobile me.
    Thanks,
    Toby

I agree with Oregon Farmer. All Contacts contain all contacts from every created group (i.e. "iPhone contacts"), so once you add a contact into "iPhone Contacts", the same info is placed in the "All Contacts" group. Sort of like "Music" in library and playlists.
There used to be an option on the iTunes, but from this website, it suggests that option was for the original iPhone http://www.apple.com/mobileme/setup/iphone/mac.html
I was browsing around looking for a way to add a new contact (i.e. from my recent calls list) directly into the "iPhone Contacts", rather than it going automatically only into the "All Contacts" list. If anyone has an idea, I'd appreciate it. I'm also using Mobileme.

  • My contacts disappear after going to "Groups" on iPhone 5

Every time I press the "Groups" button under Contacts, all of my contacts disappear.  Any ideas?

I have the exact same issue. It, too, resolved when I turned Contacts off in my iphone 5 ICloud settings. When asked,  I chose to Keep the Contacts on my phone and then selected the Merge option when I turned Contacts back on. I also had checked my Groups before I noticed that 12 Contacts were not syncing from the cloud to my phone. I think it's a glitch with the Cloud or with the iOS 6 Contacts app, not with us, personally. I wonder if Apple is aware of this.

  • Syncing iPhone contacts with a specific Group on iCloud/computer

I am using iOS 7 and run Mavericks. I want to sync (be it either through iCloud or through the desktop) the contents of my iPhone contacts with a specific group of contacts on either iCloud or a group in Contacts. How do I do that?

    Hello Jim,
It took forever. With MobileMe, it was immediate.
Up in the cloud the clocks seem to tick differently and time is relative, so we will just have to learn to be patient ...
To be serious, the first iCloud experiences seem to be different on the different continents, depending on the time zone you are in. In Europe there does not seem to be so much traffic up in the Cloud during day time  as in the states,

  • Deleting Stubborn Contact Group from iPhone

I created a new Group in my contacts on MobileMe and it was synced to my iPhone 3G just fine and it also appeared in my contacts on the Mac. I then deleted the Group on MobileMe and (there were no contact in it) and it was also deleted from my Mac. However, no matter what I do, I can not get that Group name to delete itself from the iPhone for some reason. Everything else is syncing just fine.
Is there a way to delete contact groups directly from the iPhone? The group does not exist anymore on MobileMe or in my contacts on the Mac.

    Hi prosumer,
One thing to try that might help out.
Go to settings > mail, contacts, calendars > your mobile me account.
Here you will be able to turn off contact syncing.
This will remove the contacts and groups from your iphone.
Wait for a few minutes, then turn contact syncing back on.
It will take a few minutes to sync back, based on the amount of contacts you have.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to delete the group "On My iPhone" Contacts Group

My wide and I use the same computer. iTunes is set up to Synch my iPhone to Outlook. My wife's iPhone was connected to iTunes and uploaded all Outlook Contacts to her iPhone in the "On My iPhone Contacts". How can I delete all contacts in this Group "On My iPhone"?

    Hi sandeepvaja,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you have a lot of other data on the iPhone. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.
If you get a "Not enough free space" alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Orphaned files might remain on your iOS device if it's physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, you might see a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device in the Capacity indicator in iTunes. Try these steps:
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario
