Untrusted Connection Messages

I am using Firefox 24 on Win7 Enterprise - not sure when the upgrade from 23 was performed as it happens automatically. 2 days ago I started seeing "Untrusted Connection" warnings for almost every web site I attempt to visit - including mozilla.org. This is a work PC, with MS System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection installed per domain policy. This has been installed for months, and has never caused any issues - the "untrusted connection" warnings just started 2 days ago. I have accepted the untrusted connection for several web sites (google.com, mozilla.org) multiple times, but they seem to timeout after a few hours, so I need to accept them again. It wouldn't be so bad if it was a 1-time and done sort of issue.
I have read several other posts in this forum about deleting the cert8.db file and resetting Firefox. Also the one that seemed to be isolated to a Kaspersky product - which is not relevant to my situation. I've also tried the "No Proxy" setting in Options->Advanced->Connection->Settings, and that doesn't help.
I've used FF since it's original beta (in early 2000 I think) and it is my preferred browser. However, this pesky issue has caused me to switch to Chrome - at least until it is fixed.

firefox has its own security component/certificate store, whereas IE (and probably chrome too) fall back on the operating system's root certificates when they verify secure connections, so i suppose that's why you're only getting the error while using firefox. unfortunately this is such a basic component in establishing a secure connection over https:// that there is no way to disable such warnings.
as mentioned, it would probably best to contact you IT department and ask them if they can make available the root certificate to import in your browser.

  • Untrusted connection message is losing me registrants, clients and business though the SSL works with all other browsers?

I set up a registration form for a client that requires SSL and the untrusted connection message is losing me registrants, my client and business though it works with all other browsers. I don't need the info about how individuals can disable it -- obviously that is not going to make my client satisfied.

    Can you post a link?

  • Why do I get an "untrusted connection" message when trying to access Google?

This seems to happen a few times a week. Usually, I'm trying to do a search, and then no Google sites will work - mail, maps, whatever. I have a Mac, my time zone is correct, and I never add an exception because I don't understand why Google of all sites would have a faulty certificate, and it usually begins working again after several minutes. Usually, the problem is that the certificate belongs to another site. Today, it said the security certificate belonged to Adver.tv or something similar. What is going on? This almost never happens with other sites - just Google. The one exception I can recall occurred when I was attempting to file my taxes online using TaxAct, which seemed even more suspicious.

    That sounds very suspicious!
Could you investigate your '''extensions''' and disable or remove ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Command+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that make any difference? Perhaps it will take time to know.
Also, please check your '''connection settings'''. Open the Preferences dialog to the Advanced panel here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
On Windows, this defaults to "Use system proxy settings" -- I don't know what is normal on a Mac, but it may be similar to Windows. You also could try "No proxy" and see whether that makes any difference.

  • Untrusted Connection - when I try to add a security exception, NOTHING happens

A game company Web site I go to all the time has just started giving me Untrusted Connection messages. I was able to visit it with no problems as recently as a few hours ago, but now I just get a page that says "You have asked Firefox to connect securely to [site], but we can't confirm that your connection is secure" and goes on to explain about security certificates and so on.
When I click "I understand the risks" then "Add exception", an "Add Security Exception" dialog box comes up as expected. However, when I click "Confirm Security Exception" on that dialog box (with or without clicking "Get Certificate" first), LITERALLY NOTHING happens. I don't mean I get an error message, or some result I'm not expecting, or even that the dialog box disappears. When I say nothing happens, I mean quite literally NOTHING happens. The button is not greyed out, yet clicking it has absolutely no effect. This leaves me with no means of closing the dialog box except clicking "Cancel", and therefore no means of accessing the site.
I've seen similar problems mentioned on this site, but mostly they either have the button greyed out (mine isn't) or they get a conflicting message saying the certificate is fine and doesn't need replacing (I don't). I have not seen anyone else post about my version, where everything looks normal and internally consistent yet the "Confirm Security Exception" button is non-functional.
This is not the first time I've had this problem, but it's the most annoying in that this time, it's affecting a site I normally visit several times a day rather than one I don't care that much about. As far as I recall, in my hands the "Confirm Security Exception" button has NEVER functioned, with the problem even surviving a near-total replacement of the hardware including the hard drive Firefox lives on.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode (Never Remember History).
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
*Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"
Check out why the site is untrusted (click "Technical Details to expand that section) and if this is caused by a missing intermediate certificate then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If "I Understand the Risks" is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
Note that some firewalls monitor secure (https) connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.

  • Modify google search redirection after bypassing untrusted connection warning

'''The problem:''' my default google search is redirected to google home, i.e. the 1st search is lost, I cannot perform it through google search engine bar (to the right of location bar), and I can only do this through the web page.
'''How we got here:''' I was getting a "connection untrusted" message (see [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/This%20connection%20is%20untrusted?s=security+certificates&r=3&as=s#w_bypassing-the-warning This connection is untrusted] ) for some open tabs with google searches I had from previous sessions. So, I thought I would get rid of them by creating an exception for Google. Instead, every search I do through a bar is redirected right away to Google home page (ie. instead of ignoring the certificate and keep loading the page, firefox redirects me to www.google.com, this way cutting the search next to it).
'''Actions I've taken:''' I resolved the problem for the location bar by modifying the about:config "keyword.URL", by setting a string (say "https://www.google.com/search?q=")
'''Current status:''' However, this doesn't change the status of the '''Google search engine bar''' to the right of the location bar. In short, the '''"default"''' is still hurt and I need to trace it and fix it not to redirect.
'''Question:''' Where can I find and delete the redirection I created while dealing with the "untrusted connection" message?

'''Thanks!''' I found it and deleted it!
I'm now back in the "connection untrusted" situation, but at least there is no automatic redirection and I can work this out in peace...

  • Untrusted Connection error message on home computer, but can connect fine from work

I have been connecting to this site for a while without problems (an online gradebook for son's school), but yesterday when I tried to log in from home machine, I got the "This connection is Untrusted" error message. However, I was able to log in without a problem from work today, but having the same problem at home again. Is it an indication that my home connection is somehow compromised? How do I check? Other sites seem to working fine.

It is usually better to install missing certificates by visiting another website that sends them then by making an exception.<br />
You can check the certificate chain on the working computer by clicking the Site Identity Button (favicon) on the location bar > More Information > View Certificate > Details and export missing intermediate certificates and import them on the other computer.
You can remove exceptions on the Servers tab in the Certificate Manager.

  • Lions server creates an untrusted connection

    Hey,
I've you got my of Mac OSX Lion plus the server addition so I can replace XAMPP as my server software. The problem however is that for some weird reason whenever I try to connect to my server I get a untrusted connection error with the message:
192.168.1.110 uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is not trusted.
The certificate is only valid for Allans-iMac.local
    (Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)
I've set my server to use nitrocrime.com as my domain (I've bought this domain a couple of months ago and have been using it for my XAMPP server) but after I did that this error appeared. Even (as you can tell) connecting through our local network or just my iMac itself I get this error.
    How can I remove this?
    Greats,
    Allan Hollenberg

  • Not given the option to bypass untrusted connection warning

When using Firefox on my company laptop for work, i get the untrusted connection error message when trying to enter many of the internal services such as the HR portal, Travel&Expense Report app, etc. Normally, I would just click 'I understand these risks' and add an exception, as I have done before and as your published help article suggests. However, for these sites the 'I understand these risks' option does not even appear and so I have no way to bypass this error message and access necessary sites for my job. Is there an alternative way to bypass this, or a way to temporarily turn off the service entirely so I am not stopped by the warning? What can I do to resolve this issue?
    Thank you

Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page (i.e. no authentication or signing on required)?
Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details to expand this section.<br>If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.

  • Untrusted connection error

What is the resolution????????? I have tried everything you have suggested. All I know I can not open anything correctly with Firefox. I have tried everything suggested. Perhaps I am missing something???? Pray tell me what it is. This is happening on most every site I try to open including Mozilla. As I said, I am posting this on IE, which I do not like, because Firefox will not display anything correctly when I ask to get a security exemption. WHAT GIVES, PLEASE HELP???? Bill

hello, first please make sure that the date, time & timezone are set correctly on your system. if this doesn't solve the issue (or it is already set properly), a possible solution depends on different factors:
    * what is the '''error code''' shown under ''technical details'' on the error page?
in case the error code equals ''sec_error_unknown_issuer'', please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page & inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):
    * which '''issuer information''' does the certificate contain?
    thank you!
