Unusable new version of key command "Tie regions by position change"
I have had to go back to Logic 8 because I use I use "Tie regions by position change" all the time & the new version in Logic 9 - "Shuffle regions left within selection" behaves very differently & unpredictably.
With 3 or 4 regions it works in a predictable way, but larger than that I can't predict what its doing. Some regions jump far to the right to positions I dont want.
I put lots of regions, with their start points in the order I want them, with "Tie regions by position change" It buffered them all together, in that order, in one go.
With "Shuffle regions left within selection" occasional regions are jumping several places to the right & the order is unpredictable. & you have to issue the command several times with large numbers of audio regions untill it finishes arranging them.
is this a bug or is shuffle meant as in "shuffle a deck of cards" ?
I would like to explore Logic 9 but without this function it is unusable for me.
It doesnt work as expected for me, with 5 or 6 regions it does but when i want to buffer 40 or so regions , up against each other, several have jumped to unpredictable positions . (i'm doing lots of editing of interviews )

Changed Key command - Tie Regions By Position Change
This is my 3rd post - Is there no one else here who depended on "Tie Regions By Position Change" & finds the new version "Shuffle regions left within selection" unpredictable & unusable, with regions that shouldn't jumping to the right ?

Not here! Region Tie Regions by Position Change (Logic9)
I have just upgraded to Logic9 and am looking though the new style instruction manual.
On the 'Adding or Removing Arrangement Passages' page at the 'remove gaps between regions' part it says Choose Region > Tie Regions by Position Change (or use the Tie Regions by Position Change key command).
The thing is, that the 'Tie Regions by Position Change' is not under the local menu Region and the KC
is no where to be found either. Has anybody else seen this at all.
There is the option 'Trim Regions etc' under Regions though no Tie Regions.
Thanks

Tie Regions by position change.
As I understand the "Tie Regions by Length Change" is now named "Trim Region End to Next Region".
OK. What about "Tie Regions by position change"? I've search for it and is not there.Andreww Adrian wrote:
I'll check, but isn't Shuffle a randomization way of ordering items???
In Logic, no. If you ask a drummer to play shuffle - sometimes yes. -
It's not that I don't like change, in fact I love it. However, the way tabs open and new windows open needs to go back to the original format. Sure it's a fancy transition but it is more annoying than nice. I never complain about things like this, in fact this will be my first ever complaint about a browser, I quit using explorer, and it looks like I'm going to start again until they change the format of this upgrade. I will not get use to it, I refuse to and everyone else I know feels the same way.
This solved my problem but in upgrading when layout changes occur there should be some kind of forewarning telling those who upgrade, those steps as a precaution. So we all don't go "insane" and start posting our frustrations. Last question, I noticed that uploading pictures has issues too, you can't select the picture and hit shift to select others

What has happened in Logic 9 to the key command "Tie Regions By Position Change" . I have imported my Logic 8 Key commands & several have changed but I constantly use this key command. Can anyone help ?
No I spoke too soon, it's been a nightmare. With 3 or 4 regions it works in a predictable way, but larger than that I can't predict what its doing. Regions jump to new positions that I dont want.
I do lots of editing of tracks not synced to Logic, I put lots of regions in the order I want them, (on a track in the arrange page). With "Tie regions by position change" they kept in the same order of there start position but in one go buffered up next to each other.
Using "Shuffle regions left within selection" with lots of regions, jumps some regions several places to the right & each press can further shuffle the regions
But if I go back to Logic 8 the key command applies to "Tie regions by position change" & it behaves as expected -
Need key commands list - complete
can someone do me a favor and email me the clipboard output of the comprehensive key command list? i'm not in a position to do this myself right at the moment. if someone chimes up, i'll reply with the email address to send it to. no formating or anything is necessary.
also, for those that use key commands a lot and have some complex customization, what is your opinion on its reliability? my questioning is due to the possible utilization of a remote session of logic, receiving custom MIDI sysex commands to basically remote control functionality via MIDI. (i will be sending commands via TCP, but there will be a local server sending MIDI to the host machine) do key commands ever not execute? if you send a rapid sequence of key commands, do they execute in a predictable fashion? etc...Why do you need to use Sysex commands? They're so much more complicated to program and keep track of...
In terms of reliability, sometimes I find that key commands "go bad". This is almost always a case of "key label" commands going bad and to fix the problem they need to be re-programmed as "key position". That's the only buggy behavior re key commands, aside from the bugs in the key command window itself. But that's another story. Here's the list:

Key Command troubles: Set Region/Event Start to SPL Position not working?
Hello,
I'm simply trying to find a key command that will allow me to move regions quickly from one part of a song to another without dragging with them with the mouse in the arrange window. I thought I found the solution with the key command "Set Region/Event Start to SPL Position", however it doesn't seem to be doing anything!
Here's what I've tried: First I select the region I want to move, then I move my SPL to a location using the "go to Position" key command and typing in a bar. I then try to use the "Set Region/Event Start to SPL Position" key command (which I set to Shift-Control-L) and nothing happens. Shouldn't it be moving my region to the SPL? Note: the region is still selected, but refuses to move. Am I doing something wrong? Is this not what this key command was designed to do?
In my attempts to get the darn thing to work, I also discovered that lock screen-set (Shift-L) key command also does not seem to work (it is not toggling the black dot after the screen-set number like usual). Does this mean my key commands may be corrupted? (which would be a real drag!!) Oddly enough, these are the two are the only two that do not seem to be working, as all others seem to be working fine (AFAIK).
I've had this problem in the past with the lock screen-set key command not working, and rebuild all key commands and templates when I upgraded to tiger. I thought everything was working fine!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!!I assigned F5 to two functions. In the key commands
window, pressing F5 highlighted the first assignment.
Pressing it again highlighted the second assignment.
So just keep pressing the key to see whether it's
assigned to more than one command...
Well, now when I type "Shift-L" into the finder in the top right of the key commands window, no key commands at all are show. However, which I search for the word "lock," the lock screenset key command comes up as "Shift-L." Oddly, if I search any other key commands (such as F1, "cmd-k," or even other shift ones like "shift-," the associated key commands show up.
To test, I changed the screen set lock from Shift-L to "opt-ctrl-L" and it now works again. However, it still will not come up in the key commands window through searching by "opt-ctrl-L"
On what may be a side note, the search feature seems very buggy! Tell me if I'm doing this right: First I open the key commands window, which opens with nothing selected. Now, in order to search by key command I go up to the top right corner where the magnifying glass is, place my curser inside and type in the key command correct? When I do this, it shows me the highlighted key command in the left, and my curser is no longer flashing up in the magnifying glass, correct?
Now, in order to search again, I have to place my curser in the search field again, right? However, now when I search by key command, not all of them register! For example, my "go to position" key command is simply ; but when I type it, nothing comes up in the search, and instead of the magnifying glass window being blank like before, the actual ; is in the box. Oddly enough, searching with "Cmnd-K" still works!
What is going on? Am I doing something wrong? How do I fix this, as it is very frustrating!! thanks again for your help -
Key Command for Option Clicking a Marker
Option Clicking a Marker does just what I want. It sets the playhead to the beginning of that marker without selecting the marker. Now if I could make the Keypad behave the same way, I could save myself a lot of damage to my Marker tracks. Right now a keypad # selects the marker, moves the playhead to it and sets the locators around it. preferences to make this more granular would be welcome.
The option keypad numbers seem to be unused in the default key commands. Perhaps the option key could be set to trigger the same behaviour as option clicking a marker. it makes it intuitive (meaning I tried it.)The only way I can think of is to use a Macro app like QuicKeys assigning a KeyStrokes to a sequence of two key commands:
For example:
ctr+opt+cmd+1 triggers 1 (go to Marker 1) followed by sh+opt+D (Deselect All)
ctr+opt+cmd+2 triggers 2 (go to Marker 2) followed by sh+opt+D (Deselect All)
ctr+opt+cmd+3 triggers 3 (go to Marker 3) followed by sh+opt+D (Deselect All)
You can assign the QuickKeys commands (ctr+opt+cmd+1, etc) to the keypads and they will move the Playhead to that Marker and selects the Marker. However, QuicKeys sends the second KeyCommand right away and deselects the Marker.
No deleting of selected Marker by accident anymore.
The KeyCommands in Logic are already very powerful, but when combined with QuicKeys (or any other Macro app) that lets you fire up a sequence of KeyCommands or mouse click on specific areas on the Logic interface per key commands, then it gets really powerful. Combine that with multi-touch gestures on your TrackPad using the amazing BetterTouchTool app, an you can take your customized workflow to a whole new level.
Hope that helps

Trouble updating MySQL to newer version
I'm trying to update MySQL from the factory installed 5.0.82 to a more recent 5.1.40.
Factory installed into /usr/bin
The new version is in /usr/local/mysql
I'd like to have the new version of MySQL access (or use) the old data file... but it's not easy for me to tell where this datadir variable is being set for both the old & new MySQLs.
Server Admin has tools to monitor and lightly configure the factory installation. Is there a way to tell it to now monitor the newer version? Or, somehow tie it to the newer version? Or must we just remove the MySQL Service from Server Admin completely?First off, are you referring to MySQL server or client?
but it's not easy for me to tell where this datadir variable is being set for both the old & new MySQLs.
By default (unless you've compiled your own MySQL with different settings), MySQL will read its settings from /etc/my.cnf, so wherever that file tells it to store its databases is where it's going to go.
This does mean that if you update the mysqld (server) binary then it's going to look for the same databases, with whatever potential issues that may bring.
Server Admin has tools to monitor and lightly configure the factory installation. Is there a way to tell it to now monitor the newer version?
Stopping/starting MySQL is done through launchd - Server Admin will update /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.mysql.mysqld.plist to reflect whether it should start the daemon or not. That file includes the path to the binary that launchd will launch. If you change that to your own binary then LaunchD/Server Admin should start/stop your version rather than Apple's.
Beware, though, that this may not carry through for other Server Admin tasks beyond stopping/starting the server, and that this file may get overwritten/updated by a future software update, so be prepared to make those changes again, or decouple yourself completely from Server Admin and just use your own skills to administer the server. -
Firefox crashes upon startup after update to new version and download attempt
I was asked to update to a new version of Firefox, and when I responded positively to something like, "Do you want to run Firefox now?" it crashed immediately. When I tried to launch it from the desktop it crashed immediately. When I launched it holding down the shift key it brought up Internet Explorer, not Firefox. I don't know why. I tried to download Firefox from scratch, but the result was the same--it crashed upon launch.
Is this a chat forum? Will someone help me from here? Should I just wait here?

Advice needed on Key Commands presets in Logic
Hi, just upgraded to Snow Leopard and Logic 9 and very happy. Now I'm planning to work more with key commands. While watching many Logic 9 tutorial video's on youtube etc. I find different Logic users seem to work with different (default) key commands. For example: on http://www.youtube.com/user/groove3Inc#p/search/2/BSE3VdlkZJM he's using Ctrl * for 'Capture as recording', while for me the default command is Ctrl Alt Cmd R
Now my question is:
1. What is the default / standard key command preset in Logic
2. Which Key Command preset in Logic would be best to use (also considering that on a different location I sometimes work with Protools)
3. Which Key Command preset in Logic would be best to use considering the many tutorials I find on the web
Or any other advice / tips on key commands...
Thanks! You can easily create your own set of key commands, according to your own needs. I mean, you still can learn some built-in key commands, but you can also change them as you please. Probably, in your case it might make sense to have the same set of key commands for both Logic and Pro Tools, to make life easier.

In Designer, old application system disappears after New version and ORA-01562
In Designer 2.1.2, after starting (RON 2.0.24.1.1) Application / New version,
error ORA-01562 occurred (because I have a smaller rollback segment on line).
Now I can't find in repository
old version (1) of my application system,
but new version (2) exists in repository.
Unchecking the 'Show Current Versions Only' check box doesn't help.
Even Designer API statement:
'SELECT id, name, version
FROM ci_application_systems'
displays only new version (2).
Means this that Designer:
- first changes old version number to new version number and commits
- and then copies new version to old?
How to return old version number (without Designer API)?
Thanks and regards
nullAnswer from Oracle
(MetaLink Technical Forums):
'When Designer versions it takes a snapshot of the first version
and then changes the originals version number to 2.
If designer run out of rollback segments while creating a new version
it will not show the old version again.
This is a bug (818860). It is in the resolution stage.'

The new version of the software for my iPhone 4 changed the way text messages are managed.
I can no longer delete individual texts from a text "conversation." I also have not figured out how to forward texts, which I was able to do in the prior version.
Anyone know a way to edit out individual messages without losing the entire string?
Anyone know if there is a way to forward messages? When you have the conversation open, if you tap & hold on a message bubble, you should get a new menu pop-up. It should have 2 options "Copy" and "More..." If you select the "More..." option it will then let you select one or more message bubbles and delete the selected ones by hitting the trach can icon in the lower left corner. As for forwarding, you probably just select the "Copy" option, then paste the contents into a new message...

downloaded 11.0.3 (42) 64 bit to my MacBook Pro and it crashes every time I select a song a use the 'add to' function to add to a play list. It's never done this before, is it a bug with the new version?
You could just disable updates. Change these settings in about:config.
* app.update.auto - set to false
* app.update.enabled - set to false
You can still check for updates with the "Check for Updates" button in the About Firefox window, but it will download the update file anyway if there is an update available. You can also check which is the current release from here:
