Unusual error, not found in the apple support site

I just got my iPod back from being fixed due to a bit of a battery problem. fixed, but since it was gone for so long, 2 months, I haven't bothered to update itunes or the iPod os updater.
well I did so as soon as i got it back, tody, but itunes and the updater both says that they can't communicate to it.
iTunes saye this exact error as it starts up when the iPod is pluged in.
"The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
I have done so about 3 times, uninstalled it, restarted, everything.
the only thing i can figure is that the iPodservice.exe will not start when windows does, i even went through both start>run>msconfig and turned it on and through the services in the administrative tools in the control panel to turn it automatic and started it manualy.
still nothing.
edit>
just found out that when i do turn on the iPodservice, it closes when i try either itunes ot the updater.

hi Liger!
"The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
... i'm not sure if you've resolved this yet or not. but here are the best places to start with that error message:
iPod for Windows: Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes

  • My HP C3180 printer has lost its printer connection.   The download on the Apple support site downloads - but at the very end, I get an error message that my device cannot be found.  Can anyone help?

This happened all of a sudden.  Was it in response to a O/S 10 update?  The download from the Apple icon does not show a software update is needed; so a new driver is not there.  The download at the Apple Support site for HP printers downloads and seems to install until the end, when it says my device an HP C3180 cannot be found.  Can anyone help?

My mini ipod appears off and not respond to any commands when pressed the buttons to reset, apple logo appeared and then the apple support site and it shuts down. already tried all the steps, but none worked, and when I plug it into my computer it does not appear in the iTunes bar. what do I do?

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

Without know exactly what you did or what happened:
    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

Tried all the things on the apple support site (checked USB port, deleted the 3 exe files in Task Manager, tried a new cable).  None worked.  Got the same message on my old computer.
    Any ideas??

Amazing help from apple support over the phone.  Restoring the computer fixed the problem.

  • TS1717 My ITunes account has failed to open and reccomends a "reinstall" The Apple support site gives instructions to "Create a New Account".  Will I loose my music and account $ balance?

My ITunes account has failed to open and reccomends a "re-install".  The apple support site instructs "create a new account".  Any knows what will become of my music collection and account $ balance?

Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)
I've never lost an account balance after an uninstall/reinstall.

  • Q2: I cannot use the Apple support site with my iPad.  Type disappears.  Links don't work.

Not sure what the deal is here.  It may be related to my Q1, which was my original issue.  Anyway, I tried to access the Apple support communities from my ipad to ask a question.  After I logged in, I noticed that all the text I typed into the query box failed to show up.  The test seemed to actually be there, as evidenced by the spelling suggestions that appeared as I typed, but it was like it was in white font.  The header, or question title was legible, though (I don't have white font on is my point).
Then, when I tried to "browse communities" in order to pick a community in which to post my invisible question, hoping when it posted it would become visible, no communities would display.  Actually, nothing happened.  The page did not default to the ipad or "using ipad" community.  And when I tapped on the "browse" link, nothing happened.
Finally, whenever I pick the "search" function, the word "search" self populates into the search field and I get an entire list of topics that contain the word "search".  When I delete the word "search" from the search field and enter different text (like "imessage") it re-sets to the word "search" and I get the same list of topics that contain the word "search".  IT'S FREAKING ME OUT!!  Like there's a ghost running my device.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

this forum has been very buggy for the past few days. im having similar issues. this weekend was my first visit to this forum so i have no idea if this is related to my new air 2 and ios8.1 or if its on the website side of things. however, site seems to be much more responsive for me today...

  • Unable to download TechTool Deluxe from the Apple Support Site.

When you have a AppleCare Plan you can download Techtool Deluxe for free at:
    https://support.apple.com/techtooldeluxe/main?id=dl
I gave in my serial number and is start downloading, but it stops after a few seconds and leaves a corrupted download of zero kb.
I want a a new full disc and not have to update my old tiger Techtool dvd every time i want to use it.
Anyone else have the same problem? Let me know please...
    Thanx a bunch

Same problem here -- the page results in a zero-byte disk image file. Is there some way to get a response from Apple Support or an alternate download link?
UPDATE: I viewed the HTML source of the download page, and at the very bottom is the download URL (inside a meta http refresh tag). So I popped that link into my browser, but WITHOUT the "?ver=dvd" query string -- and the download started working. It's currently downloading a 191 MB disk image, which sounds more promising. So if you're running into this same problem, you might try that trick to get the download going.

  • Does the Free iMovie HD download on the Apple Support site still work

Hi Forrest and Karsten, et. al:
Well guys, I just called to Apple store salesman to get my fix before someone commits me to rehab. I was going to buy the new iMac that came out today, with all the bells and whistles. i had to terminated the sale. The salesman had never heard of the free iMHD download for those who had purchased iM08. When I gave him the download URL, he said he couldn't pull it up on the Apple site and that he had to Google it up. He said that since he couldn't access it on the Apple site, the download is probably no longer available. He also said that, if I tried to load iM06 HD off my old iLife disk into Leopard, it would change my OS back to Tiger. I don't know how one can tell if the download still works or not unless one actually downloads it. I can't tell if it will download to leopard because I have a G4 with Tiger. Before I buy the iMac, I need to know if iMovie 06HD can still be downloaded, and if it will work on Leopard in the new iMac.

Yes Forest, I'm about to pull my hair out; all three or four of them! Carl, the link you posted to the free download is the same URL that I gave the Apple salesman over the phone, from whom i was about to buy an iMac. When he said he had never heard of the free download and couldn't pull it up on the Apple site, I suggested that he Google it. He did and could see it, but said that it was probably no longer functional because it was posted in 2006, and because he could not pull it up on the Apple site. This caused me paranoia that, maybe it's still there on the internet, but useless as the salesman said. This is the point where I asked him about loading iM06HD into a new iMac from my old ilife disk, and he responded that it would make Leopard revert to Tiger. This whole conversation really bothered me. What he told me is not consistent with the stuff I thought I had been reading and seeing about iM06 HD, i.e.,
    ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NNFnacJSdw )
Near the end of this video on AVCHD (Forest knows about my AVCHD issue) and iMovie, the reviewer mentions that one can import AVCHD video into iMovie 08, then move the clips into iMovie 06HD for editing (at least that's what I think I'm hearing). Either the Apple salesman or the reviewer in the video is wrong. I think you guys would agree that the Apple salesman "should" be the most credible. In the interest of being abundantly cautious with what I put into the new $2500 imac that I want, I want to know as much as I can about what I put in it. This way, I don't do something experimental and end up with a $2,500 smokey crater in my floor, and all three or four of my hairs singed off!
