I have family living in Cuba. I bought 2 iPod 4G touch's in Febuery set them up on my MacBook pro and sent them to my family. At the time the iOS was 4.2.1 and since iOS 3 has come out.
They have a old PC from the year 2000 put together Cuban style witch means a computer Micky Moused togeather of different parts to make what resembles a computer.
So have bought a new laptop PC to send to them. I am loading it up with iTunes and all that good stuff but this being Cuba connecting to the Internet like you or I is not possible they do have a 56k connection but it is only can access government approved sites and limited highly censered email.
So my question is there a way to upgrade the iOS on there iPods with out an Internet connection? Maybe by downloading updates to a CD here and sending the CD over there?
I know this is a crazy question but this is what people with family in Cuba go through all the time the simplest things are a big fiasco.

To my knowledge an internet connection is required for updating. You can add the iOD 4.3.1 update file in the proper location on the computer. Then all that is required for updating is for iTunes to contact the iTunes server to verify that you have the latest update file.

ok here is the question
why after installing both the itunes program and ipod touch on my computer it worked fine for a couple months, but then itunes started acting up and my computer would only sometimes know it was my ipod that was there. now i get nothing itunes says no ipod found and windows says unknown device. i did everything i could aside from completely putting my ipod into restore mode. i downloaded itunes 8.2, i checked everything was connected properly and it still wont work. So basically my computer says unknown device and itunes wont recognize that that is my ipod. Help

i have decided that my laptop does not have the power input to accept the ipod touch so i have gone out and bought a dell. now i did not buy it just for the ipod but for the fact that my need for a desktop was rising. After installing itunes 8.2 and syncing my ipod touch everything works fine
kudos to dave being the only one in a bunch of days to answer this
i have however looked at all of the ipod articles and it directs me to an ipod touch only article which is not helpful at all and i think that apple needs to come to realize that that is not the only problem that people are facing.
it is also funny how if one ipod user has a problem then over 1,000,000 people have that problem too lol

Question about blending

I have an unusual question about blending
Say you have two objects using a blend mode other than normal. For example, two boxes, one yellow, one magenta, both set to multiply.
Where they overlap is red.
Is there a way to keep this area red when the two boxes are placed on top of other objects? But still let the two boxes multiply over other objects, outside of the red overlap area. In other words, making only the red area opaque.
I know the result can be achieved by adding a box, or using the pathfinder, I was just wondering if there was a setting in the transparency pallet that would allow this.

Maybe the PDF will explain. Magenta and yellow boxes are on top, with multiply. Normally where they intersect with the cyan would be a muddy brown. I want what you see on page 1
So what I want is to leave the cyan out of the transparency interaction. The only way I know to do this is punch a hole in the cyan, or something like that. The problem with this is evident on page 2 - when you move around the magenta and yellow, the red stays put
Isn't there a way to limit how far transparency goes down in a stack of objects? In this case, just allowing transparency to dig down 2 objects would keep the red intersect area.
If you group the yellow and magenta, then enable isolate blending, you get the red. But the green and blue overlap goes away.

Question about pasting

Hello all, I have maybe one unusual question, at first let me please explain my situation:
- I am using online banking
- when logging in, I need to enter my PIN and account number
- PIN I remember, it is just 5 digits, but bank account I cannot remember
- every time I go into my Mail app, search for this number, copy it, go back to Safari and paste it there
- since I am doing it quite often (2x per week), I am already tired of it!
So, my question is - is there any small app, that would allow me to put this number to a buffer and then paste it anytime with special shortcut? Or I could imagine small nice app that would go up into bar, there I would just quickly choose the item to copy (it could be more items)...
Is there any solution for that?
I know it is maybe stupid question, but I love Mac and I am sure there can be some way to do that

Is there a way to check when was my phone last used?

My apologies for the very unusual question.
My question is simply to know if there is a way to find out when was my phone last tuned on or used.
Basically i left my business at a place with a lot sensitive work data and i have a great feeling that it has been accessesed. So if anyone can help me if there is an App or a service that would allow me to find out the time stamp of the time and date of the access or even better which apps were accessed.

While this is not all you are asking for and may not be helpful, in Settings > General > Usage, you can find the number of hours since the last charge, and how how much of that time was standby. Total minus standby should be the total time someone was using it since its last full charge.
I do not know of any built-in function, however, to show all of what you are asking for.

I'd like to know what would be the most compatible Virus protection software that would go with Mozilla Firefox?

I was recently given "as a gift" a new lap top, at least I was told it was new it's a HP 2000 LAP TOP (NOTEBOOK) PC! IT HAS 4 GB RAM, I don't know if you need more info then that right now but I would gladly get it for you if needed.
I recently had a computer crash, I had back up on my most important info, but not ALL info that was filed.
What had happen is somewhat my neglect, the other problem was the "tech" was asking me the most unusual questions, one was I had to find or remember my very first password I started Microsoft with, that was over 5 years ago on my older lap Top. I do have passwords written down for everything that needs one BUT; I didn't have my original password. (I haven't for almost 2 years), I change them just for safety reasons about every 90 days or so. Well As I was trying to use what passwords I had, the "Tech" ("questionable") I did this for approximately 30 minutes before I got fed up and disconnected the connection, which unfortunately, when I tried starting back up I had a blue screen with white writing, that from a past experience meant my computer crashed HOWEVER it did not give me that notice when you crash just said restart your computer. So I did, but after the desktop started showing up with my icons, many of them were missing.
So I thought This be a good time to use software my friend sent called "Roll back" similar to system restore, but with the ability to find and restore files you may have lost. Well I did recover some, however I lost many files, I am totally unable to watch any DVD MOVIES ON ANY type of player right now. My main Question is "What is the best possible Virus scan/ firewall compatible with my version of Firefox 30"???
And could it help me in the future if God Forbid something similar were to haunt me in the future?? I couldn't afford anything over $80 . Thank You BuddyD54

Setting a default location of the 'Save As' dialog box

I know this is an unusual question, but I do a lot of file-naming at work with Adobe Standard and it would help me if I could set a default location of the 'Save As' dialog box -- say, by dragging it to the corner of the screen so that the next time Adobe opens, the 'Save As' box will open in that location (rather than in the center by default).
By this, I don't mean setting a location for one session, which it does automatically, but rather setting an initial location for when Acrobat starts up.
Any help would be appreciated.

Product Costing - Process Order Confirmation

Dear Experts,
We are facing a situation with our Product Costing Scenario :
Under SFG Process Order Confirmation, there are Ten Phases to finally confirm the order. First Phase is for Raw Material Issuance. From Second Phase to Ninth Phase are relevant to Activity Types. Tenth Phase which is final phase, in this point Goods Receipt posting is generated.
At first phase, system posts Raw Materials Goods Issue (Movt Type 261) to Process Order:
Entry : RM (Cr), Consumption (Dr).
Client needs the system to post one more entry at the same time by : WIP (Dr), Inv Change (Cr).
Reason:
According to client, they have made consumption entry in finance but what if all raw materials are not consumed as yet and factory comes under fire, then how can they claim insurance on those Raw Materials which are not consumed and are still in the IN PROCESSING Stage?
My Answer was:
- They can find all material costs in Process Order as Debit Item.
- They can also calculate WIP but cannot post WIP in Finance unless the order is settled.
Ultimately, as per my knowledge client cannot check the unprocessed Raw Materials report in FI but they can check in CO. And this is the point of reservation from client.
They need an entry in Finance for WIP to claim insurance in case of fire and therefore they need a posting of WIP entry immediately after Goods Issue of Raw Materials to Order.
Can anyone please guide me further regarding this scenario and if any one can suggest any work around then it would be highly appreciated!

Buddy, there is something in accounting called as "Going Concern Concept" which we all were taught in our accounting days.. That means when you do business, do it with a mindset that you are goinig to do it for long / for ever.. Accidents dont happen every day and you cant build a system around such things
Assume there is a fire (God forbid).. After the accident, you wont even know how much was lying there unconsumed which got gutted in the fire..
And insurances not just covers the stock lying consumed, but also stock manufactured and stock in the process of manufacturing (WIP)
And most importantly, dont expect SAP to throw up a figure at the click of a button.. Does your client really think that they will simply submit the report generated from SAP as-is to Insurance people?? SAP is just a technology enablement, which requires human intervention at various places
My opinion - Dont build system for such requirements

Data getting owerwritten

I have a very unusual question.
I am accessing my ATmel device from Lab View through USB.
Its bulk in format.
I am using The VISA open,Read, Close blocks properly as specified in the example provided by NI.
I receive 100 packets each of 960 bytes.I a saving this in a text file.
Its a simulated data, so each packet will receive only data of that particular packet number(in hex),for eg: packet 1 will receive only 1's and so on.
i capture this data and i observe that packet 1 has 500 bytes of 1's and the rest 460 bytes of 2's.What exactly is happening is second packet's data is getting overwritten in the first packet's data. The board is sending data every 20 ms.
I crossed checked it in hyper terminal i saw that my device is sending all values properly.So from firmware side there is no issue.
I am not doing any sort of processing in between.
I directly capture the data received from the board.
The timeout given in VISA Open is 2000 ms and the byte count given for VISA read is 5000.
Is it a timing issue or anything else?

I think you need a larger I/O buffer. The default size is as I remember 1024 bytes. I have never worked with USB and visa. But as I understand visa USB and serial is the same ting. If this is correct you may use the “visa set I/O buffer size” function. Use at least a 2K or larger buffer.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

Create a list in another list

Hi,
Is it possible to create nested lists in Sharepoint 2013?
My requirement is to create a list for some groups like (group1, group2,group3 etc..).
This list will have 3 columns for group name, type and description.
And when a group is selected I want to see another list in it with some columns like user properties.
Is this possible? I am a SharePoint power user, so please excuse if this is an unusual question!

You can't nest lists.
However you can have lookup columns which bring data from other lists. This basic relational structure may grant what you want.
Alternatively, Managed Metadata fields can be used to create a hierarchy several levels deep.

I don´t know why you are posting this in the German forum but anyway - the video tutorials I´ve seen so far are pretty simple made in my opinion. You just have to have some recording software like Screenflow or simply the Quicktime Player and a semi-quality microphone. Last is software and skills to cut the hole thing together.
If it aren´t tons of videos you need to produce I´d really attempt to save that money.
But anyway, I´m not Adobe so...

Screensaver of my Dreams

This is probably an unusual question.
I have a very large collection of images on my computer that I use for creative inspiration; anything from great photography and art to personal photos and funny internet memes.
I love watching them using the screensaver on my two monitors. However, I wish there was a way to pause the screensaver and see the filename - so when something appears that I want to find on my computer, I am able to search for it somehow.
Is there any way for me to do this?

You need to go into the settings on your Apple TV and change the screensaver.

Print Empty Workbook

I have an unusual question...
I would like to be able to print a workbook that returns no data. The reason I need to do this is for documentation purposes. We have several workbooks that check for various exceptions and if everything is right, the workbook will return no data. To be able to document that no "errors" were found, my users will want to print the workbook showing the parameters used to produce no results. If I try to print from Discoverer Plus, I get a message that says "Operation failed. No data can be printed as there are no rows in this report"
Anyone have any ideas on how I could trick it or change a setting to allow it?

How to authorize QT Pro in v. 6...?

This is an unusual question about backwards compatibility...
I have a Quicktime Pro 7 key for OS X on my iBook G4 and it works great, no problems there.
But I also have a G4 running OS 9.2.2 (only) in my studio with QT 6.0.3, Standard Edition. It would be a huge help to me to have QT Pro features on that version as well.
I had never upgraded to QT Pro in version 6, I only did it when I already had version 7, and the version 7 key does nothing when entered in version 6. It wouldn't kill me to pay another $30 to purchase a version 6 upgrade but I don't see any way to do it. Is there any way that my paid upgrade in version 7 can be made to work in version 6?

Not sure what Apple's position is on the subject, but some software companies allow the transfer of legally "gifted" or "purchased" second-hand software which has been upgraded by the original owner. Of course this is, more often than not, seen only with high-end products. Might check with your local user group. Ours holds a "fire" sale once a year to "re-cycle" out of date but still serviceable software. In some cases the software was never even used.

Install in English language

I'm French. So when I download Oracle9i Developer Suite, I would like to install in English language and the installation is always in French, on a French version of Windows. The same thing appears when I have an English version of Windows.
