Unusual temp??

The other day after I installed my new RAM in my system, I got one of my settings wrong in my BIOS. I had to clear the BIOS and I reset things back to the way they were before. After booting up I noticed a temputure change where my CPU had been at an idle 39c I was now 45c. this confused me. but the temp wasn't like way out of the normal so I didn't try to correct it. Today again I was trying to tweak just a little with my RAM settings and again got something wrong. Having to and clear the BIOS again when I booted up this time my temps dropped. on core center I'm running at 38c and on MBM5 I'm at 34c. thats quite a bit of difference. has anyone else had anything like this to happen? and maybe some of the guys that are having temp problems should try reseting the bios to see if there is just a glitch there some where? Hi there,
It is not unusual for OLAP queries to make significant use of temp tablespace. 3-4GB doesn't sound unreasonable to me. The actual amount used depends on factors such as the type of activity and the number of users.
There is a brief description of how OLAP uses temp tablespace here :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/olap.111/b28124/admin.htm#sthref442
Note the lower than standard setting 'EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE 256K' - if you are not already using this setting then you may find that it lowers temp space usage as the default setting is usually 1024K or even 4096K
I hope this helps

  • Unusual Temp Tablespace Growth

    Hi ,
We have noticed unsual temp tablespace growth when concurrent users are accessing OLAP cube through BI Bean crosstabs.
On an average 3 to 4 GB temp tablespace is consumed for each new user. OLAP cube has 7 dimensions and 1.2 million records and is fully precalculated.
This causes the system to fail as a result of temp tablespace getting full.
Can somebody please let me know what can be the root causes?.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Error -12 when building installer

    OS: Win7
    LabVIEW: 2012 SP1
I am having issues with the application builder while trying to build an installer.
The installler has the following "Aditional Installers" selected:
    LabVIEW Runtime Engine
    NU USI 2.0.1
    NI DAQmx Core Runtime 9.8
    NI DAQmx MAX Configuration 9.8
    NI VISA Runtime
If I remove the "NI DAQmx Core Runtime 9.8" & "NI DAQmx MAX Configuration 9.8" then the installer builds without error.  How can I get it to succesfully build with these selected?
I have upgrated the DAQmx from 9.5.5 to 9.8 and performed a mass compile but no luck.

It looks like your installer build is trying to pull the "SiriusXM Mad Max" distribution from an unusual temp location. If this distribution was hiding inside a 7zip file and has since been altered or deleted, that we certainly confuse the installer builder. Do you know if this distribution contained the DAQmx installers you are trying to build with?
Here are a few things you could try if this is the case.
    1. If an installer build ever suceeded while pulling source from this temp location, the location may have been saved as known good source. To undo this saved information, you can delete the file at C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\MDF\Bin\MDFInfo.xml
    2. If C:\Users\bbanacki\AppData\Local\Temp\7ZipSfx.000\Mad Max Installer\ is a valid path on your machine, try moving or renaming this folder. This should cause the installer builder to prompt you for source media. This prompt window will allow you to configure which distributions you provide as source for the build (depending on the version of the installer builder tool installed, you may have to click "No" to the question "Do you have all of these installers?" to get to the configuration page).
    3. Install the latest version of the installer build tool. A new one released with LV 2013, and it should be available to download either through NI Update Service or on the web somewhere
    4. All else fails... post your full installer build log! LabVIEW generates this for us at %temp%\LVProjectName_InstallerName_build.log

  • FANS kick in very late

Hi - I wanted to know if there's any way I could control the fans in a way that they would kick in at lower temperatures. I noticed my MacBook is completely quiet - can't hear the fans - until about 67 - 70 deg C. Then they kick in. When idle - the Mac stays around 56 - 62 deg C - I would like it little cooler if possible - Any ideas>?

The company that makes the SpeedIt kernel extension, the one that CoreDuo Temp installs an early version of, is getting closer to releasing a 1.0 version that they claim will allow adjustments to control CPU whine and other things.
    http://www.increw.com/speedit.html
If you're interested in monitoring your fan behavior, the developer of the Temperature Monitor application has a shareware program called Hardware Monitor, which now reads fan speed.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16609
My fan runs at 1500 RPM minimum. When I run yes processes to stress the CPUs, the fan kicks in as the temp hits about 75 deg C, speeds up rapidly to the specified max of 6200 RPM, stays at that speed until the temp drops from a max of about 81 deg C to about 66 deg C, and then adjusts itself to keep that temp. When the CPU load is removed, the fan drops to the 1500 RPM minimum again.
Hardware Monitor also reads CPU frequency, which for me runs 1333 MHz mostly, dipping to 1000 occasionally, and of course rising to 2000 max. The steps seem to be 1000, 1333, 1500, 1667, 2000. The readings from Core Duo Temp that I've seen recently posted (always maxed out) are apparently bogus. (I don't run CoreDuo Temp.)
Lastly, reading your post about your idle temperature, I glanced at my temperature, which usually reads about 40 deg C at low load. I was surprised to see it at 53 deg C. I looked at Activity Monitor and saw that there was a process called coreaudiod using about 9% CPU. (I didn't have any audio apps running.) After a little googling, I killed it, and as expected the system immediately started a new instance, but one that wasn't using measurable CPU. The temperature immediately dropped by 12 deg C, to the usual 40-ish. The point being, I guess, that if you have unusual temps to check to see if there are any processes chewing up CPU that you can identify that shouldn't be.

  • PISMO Fan nver comes on?

Ok, so I upgraded my Old PISMO 400 with max Memory 1Gb and a new HD 6OGB Western Digital Scorpio.
Installed OSX (10.4.10) plus running classic.
Everything is running fine, if a bit slow, but that's fine.
My Question is, that stupid little exhaust fan never comes on.
So I figured it was fried and purchased a replacement Fan......installed new fan and still nothing?!
Fan never comes on.........is this something to do with OSX maybe?
I did boot into classic but still no Fan activity..........
Great little Laptop for doing network tasks, I just don't want to fry it though.
I did try installing Temperature Monitor but it says there are no Sensors in the Laptop.

    Thomas,
Since you are running 9.x and I am assuming not just Classic but can boot to 9.x, download Newer Gauge Pro 1.1:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/4512
This utility can measure your CPU's die-junction temperature. The Pismo generally will run in the 120°F > 150°F range; the fan is designed to spin up around 180°F as I recall. IBM rates this CPU as being stable up to 221°F. Most owners of black G3s never hear the fan run since the slower CPUs, fewer components, and larger dimensions of the 'book allow for lower temps than the new furnaces from all manufacturers.
I started my Wallstreet 10 minutes ago and it's temp is just 107°F as it sits idling. I would not be concerned about your fan unless Gauge Pro reports some unusual temps.

  • Mac Pro (Early 2008) periodically crashes in unusual way, requires reinstall

Mac Pro (Early 2008), 2 x Intel Quad-core Xeon 3.2 GHz (8 cores), 14 GB RAM, 3 TB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 and/or ATI Radeon HD 4870), OS X Lion 10.7.4
OK, I've got a weird one here.  Every few days, my machine crashes in an unusual manner.  Examples:
    * the first time this happened, any attempt to play a video file (either from within iTunes or externally using Quicktime) would result in a blank, black video window, but I could still hear the sound from the video.  If I moved my mouse within the black window I'd get playback controls and when pressed, I could hear the audio rewind/fast forward/etc. (but of course the video window would remain black)  Also, any attempt to use screen sharing would result in a completely white window where the remote screen should be.
    * another time this happened, I would constantly get the error message that VTDecoderXPCService quit unexpectedly, even if I wasn't playing a video.  Trying the suggested fixes from https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3193904?start=15&tstart=0 did not fix the issue.
    * another time this happened, the machine appeared to work fine, except any attempt to access System Preferences resulted in the spinning beach ball of death and would completely lock up the machine.
In any case, rebooting the machine does not result in the problem being fixed -- in fact, it gets worse.  After I reboot, I am unable to log in to my machine at all. Either the desktop window flashes briefly but then it goes back to the login screen, or the login screen never appears.  I have tried both the "guest" account as well as a standard "test" user I set up when I first installed OS X (i.e. a "clean" user), and none of those help.
What *does* help, however, is completely reinstalling OS X Lion (including running the combo updater to get back to 10.7.4).  Once I do this, the machine becomes usable again, and I can use it error-free for a few more days - after which it fails again in some strange manner.
At first I thought my hard drive might be failing; however replacing the hard drive did not help.  I then thought that I might have a glitchy graphics card (the black video windows and the VTDecoderXPCService crashing suggested this to me).  However replacing the video card didn't help either.  (I tried another GeForce GT 120 as well as an ATI Radeon HD 4870, both of which were known to be good in other machines).  I have also tried countless times fixing permissions, clearing cache files, etc. and none of that helps.  The only thing that brings this machine back from the dead is, like I said before, reinstalling OS X - but only for a few days.
I didn't see anything out of the ordinary when checking the system log files.
In case there was some sort of hardware problem going on, I tried running Apple Hardware Test overnight in loop mode.  The hardware passed all checks.  I also tried running Memtest86+ overnight, again with no failures or errors.
The machine doesn't seem to me to run particularly hot - typically temps hover in the 40-45 C range, and can jump to 55-60 when doing heavy activity (mostly video encoding).  Voltage levels look good as well.  (I'm using iStat Menus for both the temperature and voltage readings)
I'm about at my wit's end here.  Unfortunately the machine is out of warranty (AppleCare too) and I don't really have the money to take this into a shop and get it diagnosed.  So does anyone have any ideas?

  • Sql loader direct path leaving indexes unusuable

    10.2.0.3
    redhat 4.5
    temp tablespace 6.5 GB
    datafile size 33k
I thought in version 10 you can do direct path loads without indexes going unusuable?
i saw this, but we have plenty of temp space.
    http://dbasolve.com/OracleError/ora/ORA-01502.txt
    Oracle Error:
ORA-01502 Oracle Index in Unusable State
    Cause and Solution:
When trying to perform query on Oracle tables with select SQL statement, Oracle returns this error.
The error indicates an attempt has been made to access an index or index partition that has been marked unusable by a direct load or by a DDL operation.
The problem usually happens when using the Direct Path for the SQL*Loader, Direct Load or DDL operations. This requires enough temporary space to build all indexes of the table. If there is no enough space in TEMP tablespace, all rows will still be loaded and imported, but the indices are left with STATUS = 'INVALID'.
Invalid indexes can be checked with down SQL statement.
    SQL>SELECT * from USER_INDEXES WHERE STATUS = 'INVALID';
Solution to this error is simple. You can:
    1. Drop the specified index and/or recreate the index
    2. Rebuild the specified index
    3. Rebuild the unusable index partition
Generally, the following SQL manipulation language will be able to rebuild the unusable index:
    SQL>ALTER INDEX index_name REBUILD online

    Hi Alan,
How big is this table and what sort of indexes are they?
An index update using SQL*Loader unrecoverable direct path load is achieved by an isolated sort followed by a nologging merge of the old index and the new mini-index into a new index segment (this according to seminar notes by Jonathan Lewis). This will conceivably take a long time for a large table / large index.
Performance improvements? Are you loading all records into a new partition?
    Cheers,
    Colin

  • Unusual file in root directory

I just purchased a new Macbook pro and migrated my data using migration assistant. I have just noticed an unusual file in the Macintosh HD root directory called "~". It says it was created today but modified yesterday! Its 557kb in size. Does anyone have any clues what this could be for?

no, but you can safely delete it. could be a temp file created by some program that was not removed cleanly.

  • This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way please contact the application's support

I randomly get this error message "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support."
    Here's a picture of it. http://i48.tinypic.com/35hradh.jpg
It doesn't tell me what application or process is responsible. :/
It pops up randomly when I wait long enough. It will pop up even if I don't have anything open and I just leave my computer to idle. When I close it or click okay, windows explorer gui will crash and restart. I can still use the computer after this without
restarting but again if I wait long enough it will occur again. I've look around and tried many solutions but nothing has worked.
I've tried a full virus scan, and malware scan with no luck. Tried the registry cleaner from CCleaner and doesn't fix it. I've ran it in safe mode and the error didn't seem to occur or maybe I didn't wait long enough (30-40 minutes).  I've tried a SFC
scan and nothing comes up as wrong. I've done a cleanboot several times with no help. I can't do a system restore since the latest restore point is on the same day that I got the error unfortunately.
When the error occurs the pop up window is from Microsoft Visual C++. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ for my 2010 versions but with no luck. I've uninstalled the recent programs that I installed and no help either.

    Hi ,
Do you remember if you  have installed some software prior to this issue?
    Delete programs you never use.
If the issue reoccurs in Clean Boot, but works fine in Safe Mode, the cause may be the disabled hardware drivers. You may narrow down the
    causes in Device Clean Boot.
    Device Clean Boot
    =================
    1. Click Start, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter.
    2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers".
    3. Right click on your sound card and then click "Properties.
    4. In the dropdown menu of Device Usage, please choose "Do not use this device (disable)" and click OK.
    5. Please use the same method to disable other dubious hardware such as: internal modem, network card and CD-R drive. Please note some devices
such as video adapter are not available to be disabled.

  • Maximum Temp tablespace size you've seen

    DB version: 10.2.0.4
Our DB caters a retail application . Total DB Size of 3TB. Its is a bit of mix of both OLTP and Batch processing environment.
Our temp tablespace has 1 file and we had set the tempfile as AUTOEXTEND. Somehow its size has reached 25GB now !
We don't actually need this. Do we?
For a fairly busy DB of around 3TB size, what is the maximum temp tablespace size you've ever seen?
What is the maximum temp tablespace size you've ever seen for Big DB like Telecom, Banking?

The point about temp space is that your requirements are dynamic - the actively used area shrinks and grows.
Comparing apples with oranges, tempfile sizes on system where I am currently here amount to 50 GB but to be honest that's mainly due to a not insignificant number of pretty poor queries, run concurrently, with multipass operations, etc.
Kellyn Pedersen had an example of a process using 720GB here:
    http://dbakevlar.com/?p=43
Whilst 25GB may not be earth shattering, a "large" temp area may perhaps be an indicator that you want to review some of your application code.
(What is "large"? "unusual" compared to what is "normal" for your system may be a better metric)
If you're using automatic pga memory management, then there's a limit to what each session can get, it may be that automatic work areas are not suitable for some of your code and some manual sizing is required to prevent operations spilling unnecessarily.
Also, inaccurate CBO estimates on your queries can lead to inaccurately sized work areas that then spill into temp.
There was a reminder of this in one of Randolf Geist's articles on hash aggregation:
    http://oracle-randolf.blogspot.com/2011/01/hash-aggregation.html

  • Is there any way to alter temp tablespace into normal tablespace

Even though It might be stupid question, i want to know the solution for that...
Is it possible to alter TEMP tablespace into Normal tablespace?
One more question, is it possible to create user with TEMP tablespace,
(I know the usage of temp tablespace also, and we cannot create user with temp tablespace.)
If some trick or any solution, share with me.
    Thanks in advance.

    1) Can you explain why you want such an unusual situation. By understanding your requirement, perhaps we can suggest alternatives
    2) The requirements and restrictions are described in the CREATE USER command in the SQL Reference manual for whatever version you are using. (The stupid part of your question happens by not specifying any version range. <g>)
The requirement to use a TEMPORARY tablespace is documented and enforced in 9i. In 8i, we only required a tablespace to be named.

  • 93 degrees celsius CPU TEMP!! and performance is degrading

    Hey Guys.
I have had my MacBook Pro for about 10 months and now my battery is at 60% health one day and then will fluctuate to 89% health the next.
Recently too, a lot of software has been hanging up and I get the rotating beach ball of doom. The machine has also been running rather unusually hotter than normal. For example I'm just watching a YouTube Video and listening to music in iTunes at the CPU reaches a heat of about 75 degrees celsius. About 5 months ago this would only occur if I was rendering or encoding files. Last night I was encoding a movie into MPEG4 and my CPU reached a whopping 93 degrees celsius!!!
I have tried resetting the Power Management control but that didn't help.
Is anyone else having similar issues?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Chris Hall

    Hi Chris,
Oh, your battery health fluctuations might be related to the heat issue your experiencing, since lithium polymers hate heat. If your using the system plugged into it's adaptor, you can prolong the battery life by removing it, once it's fully charged. Your MBP will continue to run but remember to insert the battery before you unplug cause the system will just power down/shut down; thus lose work.
Do yourself a favor, try saving your CPU's from overheating, they're gonna die if they keep on being cooked or fried!!! I found this utility that give me more control over those internal fans, i'd advise you to tweak the default speed from the standard 2000 RPM to a more realistic 2200 RPM (anything above 3500 RPM starts becoming noisy).
Personally, I've managed to lower the processor temps from the frightening 71-75°C to a more comfortable 50°C. Give it a try and tell the rest of us what you think.

    Good luck.

  • HT1338 mac book pro gets unusually hot

Mac book pro gets unusually hot. Its only a year old . Anybody out there have s suggestion ?

I have just been to the Genius Bar with this question, among others. They recommended that I download "SMCFancontrol", also recommended above by EyeHeartDesign. It's available free at http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/31029. Like iStatPro it monitors temperatures, but it also allows you to set a faster default fan speed and a target max temperature.
At the Genius Bar I was also advised to clean out the vents with compressed air and to make sure that I am not blocking the vents while I use the computer.
We'll see if this all works, as it has been running hotter than usual lately. I was afraid that components were getting fried, but was assured that the other issue this computer has (keyboard and trackpad stop working) is unrelated. Looks good so far - with fans at the new default of 4000 rpm, temp is 40º C.

  • What is considered excessive fan speed/internal temp?

Among all of my installed applications, there is one program (a moderately graphics-intensive game) that causes the fan in my MacBook Pro to spin very very loudly and heat up to 82 degress Celcius (181 F).
First of all, what temperature is is considered to be within normal range?  I wouldn't normally be concerned about CPU temperatures, but the noise coming out of my computer is unusually loud.
    I'm on a 2012 model 15" Retina MacBook Pro, running OS 10.8.3.

Actually how accurate is the temp reading on HWMonitor for your MSI board?  One thing I noticed is that w/ Coretemeter the temp reading was around 48-50c on Rig#1 and almost 58-60c on Rig#2 (That's my HTPC w/ EXTREMELY tight spacings so still work in progress as far as cooling's concern!) but using HWMonitor I got 31c CONSISTENTLY on both rigs!     I'll love to think that I'm indeed running this cool but feeling the exhaust air, I think this 31c reading is not real...

  • Flash Disks for TEMP space

    Hi,
I have noticed that whenever a SQL statement needs to make heavy use of TEMP (GROUP BY, SORT, Etc.) with large amounts of data (2GB up to 50GB) execution time slows considerably. A large part of that time (As reported by OEM SQL-MONITOR) is waiting on reads/writes to TEMP. It occured to me that I could cut off a portion of my cell flash, configure it into grid disk, and create a small disk group for Flash temp space. This wouldn't need to be mirrored, as it is TEMP space. Has anybody tried this? (This is a data warehouse with a large amount of data, so it's not unusual for queries to use 5GB to 10GB of TEMP).
    Thanks,
    Doug

    All,
Well, I had a chance to test this & it actually works very well. The first thing I found was that it is very fast & easy to configure some of the flash into grid disks, and there is no need to even take the databases down or cycle them. On each Cell (using DCLI lets it all be scripted up) you simply drop the flash cache, recreate it smaller, and configure the rest into grid disk. (Reversing it is just as easy). Then, since TEMP does not need to be mirrored, you simple create a disk group specifying External redundancy. Create a TEMP tablespace in this disk group, and you are off and running.
I created a simple SQL that did a GROUP BY and SORT on 10 columns of a 500M row table. That SQL ran 1min, 5 secs using hard disk TEMP and 1 minute flat using flash temp. I ran these repeatedly, and the timings were consistent. This wrote 4GB to TEMP. Then I doubled the amount of data by doing a UNION ALL of the table with itself (in an inline view). This wrote 8GB to TEMP, and the difference between hard and flash temp times grew to about 15 secs. I doubled this a few more times, and the more data written to TEMP, the larger the improvement in run times. (I don't think writes to flash are slower than writes to hard disk ... they seem to be faster. The Oracle engineers would have to answer that one, but the statistics from OEM show the writes to flash TEMP as being faster than to hard disk ... particularly as the volume of data gets larger).
In any event, we have some processes that rebuild a large number of MVs at a time (requiring about 400GB of TEMP). I'm looking at putting someting in place to build a flash TEMP to support this load, and then drop it when the load is complete. We'll try it manually first ... I think we may be looking at cutting significant time off the process.
    Thanks,
    Doug
