Unwanted App which the app store wants me to update, and I cannot delete it.

I have an App wanting to be updated that I cannot update or remove because it was not downloaded on my account.  It has been there for over a year and it does not show up anywhere on my computer.  Why is it in my app store if it is not on my account?  Spotlight does not find it in the search.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

Yes, if this is a permanent change. But you still have to have all the other changes - billing address, credit card, residence, etc. See Manage My Apple ID.

No, "My Number" was not listed in my Phone menu, I had to manually type it it.  Is there a way for that number to automatically be listed in that "My Number" spot?  Would that maybe have something to do with my phone number not being listed as an option in the "Send and Receive" spot under messaging???

  • An app on my iPhone 5 will not finish updating and I cannot delete it

I tried updating an app on my iPhone 5 and for weeks it has been loading and underneath the app icon it says "waiting". When I try to delete the app the small "x" symbol that should appear on the icon does not leading me to beleive I cannot delete this app. I have tried everything to delete this app so I can re-download it and be able to use it but nothing seems to work. Please help

    Hi there,
I would recommend first restarting the device the trying to delete the app again in the manner you discribed above.

  • HT5648 The App store wants me to update to Java 1.6.0_41 -- but I already have the latest Java 1.7 ver. downloaded from Oracle.

How do I remove the Java 1.6.0_41 update from App Store updates list without actually installing it? I don't want to revert to an older Java than what I got from Oracle just a week ago (Java "1.7.0_11").
PS, I thought Apple was no longer doing its own Java version anymore and that maintenance for Java for Mac was now in Oracle's hands. What gives?

You should not ignore it as that will leave you with an unsafe version of Java SE 6 integrated into your system. If you shoud ever need to revert from Java 7 to Java 6 (which many users have found necessary for compatibility reasons) that would leave you open to attack. It's very difficult to remove Java 6 so you might as well keep it up-to-date.

The agreement was that Apple would continue to update Java 6 and Oracle would take over at Java 7.  Both can exist on your computer, though in general, only one will be active at any given time.  Oracle's public support for Java 6 ends this month and without it Apple will be hard pressed to continue after that date, but we'll all just have to wait and see how that goes.

  • App store wants me to update apps already updated!!

what is with Apple's App Store??? I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8, the app store says I need to update apps that were updated months ago, ***??? ...once in a while I have a similar problem with iTunes app updates also, it will download apps but then it claims there's one that still needs to be downloaded, I keep doing this until I realize it's the same app and it's already downloaded.

let me rephrase that...the app store indicated I needed to update several apps to the version they have already been updated to.
problem is gone, hours later I go to app store and it is operating normally.
    anyone know why this happens?

  • App Store want me to update a game that I have never installed

App Store is telling me to update a game (Fantastic 4 in a row.....) that I have ever never bought and/or installed. How do I get rid of this notification?

No - but my fault. I was logged in at App Store with another appleid.

  • Xcode download from the app store trashed by development environment and I cannot recover by downloading again

I downloaded xcode and it trashed my development environment.
I had previously installed an earlier version.
My purchased apps page does not list XCODE.  However, If I go to the XCODE download page in the App, it lists it as installed.
Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

Go to your Spotlight search. (Swipe from left to right at your primary home screen.)
    Type in 'Facebook'.
You should see your Facebook app.
Unless you held down an app icon until it 'wiggles', then hit the black 'x' to delete it, you didn't delete the app.

They will have to be answered the first time when purchasing from a new computer or device.

  • App store wants to re-verify my Apple ID

Strangely, as of 8 PM PDT 10/21, the App Store wants to re-verify my Apple ID even though i had dones this several days ago.  The re-verify attempt fails because the App Store never sends me the email confirmation.  This App Store is failing on all my devices (both Mac and iOS).  Any clues?

Fixed.  I think I have discovered my problem. My Apple ID and email verification were NOT the same.  Apparently it really matters that your verification email address is the same as your Apple ID (which itself is an email address).
Prior to my upgrade to iOS5, I never had a problem with having my old Apple ID and email verification being different, but no longer.  Compounding my problem - my Apple ID is not the same as my iCloud (MobileMe) and I was using my iCloud (MobileMe) email address as the verification for my old Apple ID.  Confusing isn't it?
My suggestion is to go to https://appleid.apple.com and ensure your Apple ID and email verification address are the same.  In fact, once you sign-in on the appleid account page and attempt to edit your Apple ID, there is a tool and pops-up to force your to sync your email to match your Apple ID.  give this a shot.
