Unwanted background work

iMac with Mountain Lion
Yesterday I finally managaed to download a fully functional version of the Mountain Lion. Direct AppStore download attempts gave me error 100 and after all advise given in the community how to deal with it the only solution for me was to make a bootable external disk of this Lion and download it from there. This for information for those who are still getting that error.
The computer worked well up till 2 hours ago when I was scrolling through the menus on iPhoto. Reaching EDIT - Start Dictation the computer practically speaking locked itself to a a mode where nothing no longer is working as it should. The silent sound indicates that there is going on an process of indexing or something similar. Due to the "locked mode" I cannot ho to System Prefs to disable dictation. Brutal restart with power button works but as soon as the computer is on again, the background work continues.
My question is - is there any button anywehere where I can stop this extremely annoying behaviour of unwanted background work?

Well booting in safe mode only loads required actions and nothing unnecessary to boot. It seems that you have something loading/running in normal mode that is severely hindering your normal operation.
So if you change the background photo to a normal Apple one, reboot, are you good?
Here is the official answer
Starting up into Safe Mode does several things:
-It forces a directory check of the startup volume. You may see a progress bar on the screen during this check, and the computer may take longer than usual to complete its startup.
-It loads only required kernel extensions (some of the items in /System/Library/Extensions).
-In Mac OS X v10.3.9 or earlier, Safe Mode runs only Apple-installed startup items (such items may be installed either in /Library/StartupItems or in /System/Library/StartupItems; these are different than user-selected account login items).
-It disables all fonts other than those in /System/Library/Fonts (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
-It moves to the Trash all font caches normally stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/ , where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501 (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
-It disables all startup items and login items (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
-Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later: A Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache at (/var/db/dyld/). A cache with issues may cause a blue screen on startup, particularly after a Software Update. Restarting normally recreates this cache.

  • How do I use clipping mask to cover unwanted background?

    I'm practicing illustrator myself. I have a book for illustrator hoping it would show me step by step on how to use the masks to take away any unwanted background in a photo but it didn't do that. Can anyone teach me how or show me where to look for the information on how to use the clipping masks or other type of masks? I went to the adobe workshop video to look for the answer but it didn't show exactly as what i want to know. The image i'm practicing on is a family photo and i want to isolate everything to just one person in the photo so how can I do that using clipping mask? Thanks!!

    oh~~~ so i still need to use pen tool to draw the shape out. I thought there's something i could use to make the shape easily. Stupid me XD
    I was wondering if you could help me more...can you give me a rule of thumb like when is best to use illustrator to edit image or photoshop?
    Thanks for your tip! I really appreciate it!!

    Draw the mask using the pen tool over the image. Select both the drawn mask AND image and choose Object > Clipping Mask > Make

    Thank you, Bhaskar,
    I have performed consistency check for temse objects and all the comments are displayed in red color.
    Does it mean that objects are inconsistent. But, no comments states that object are inconsistent.
    I have attached the comments displayed,
    Consistency check of table TST01 / TemSe objects
    This comment occurs repeatedly, Unable to access the related file           Length = 0
    Incorrect number of data lines in TST03
    Object with part number 1 missing
    Object reset                     Length = 0
    The related file has an incorrect length

    No object found in TST01
    May i delete all objects, as all the comments are red in color.

  • How to find out number of background work processe available in the system?

    Hi All,
    I have a FM that triggers a background job using JOB_OPEN, ABAP_SUBMIT and JOB_CLOSE. But the problem is if there are no background work processes available at that moment, it does not return error. Not sure whether the job is even scheduled!
    Is there a way to find out if there are any background work processes available in the system? I know a FM SPBT_INITIALIZE which gives info about dialog work processes. Is there any other FM similar to this which gives info about background wp??
    Regards,
    Shailesh

    your Job will remain in a queue by message handler. once workprocess is free, your job gets scheduled
    by the way, you can use the functionality used in FM TH_DISPLAY_WORKPROCESS_LIST to read the workprocesses
    the command which gets you the workprocess is:
    CALL 'ThWpInfo' ID 'OPCODE' FIELD OPCODE_WP_LIST
                      ID 'TAB' FIELD LIST_STATE_WPLST-TABL
                      ID 'CPU' FIELD LIST_STATE_WPLST-CPU.
    check how its written in include LSDEBF01, form SET_LIST_WPLST

    My workflow has a sync dialog user-decision step for the approve or reject.  If the user approves the PR then it calls a background synchronous release step.  I have the "Advance with dialog" check box on the background task.
    When I look at the workflow log the background task starts with the dialog user-id, however it then creates a tRFC entry so the work item actually finishes under the WF-BATCH user-id.
    What setting(s) do I have to change so that the background work item doesn't execute as a tRFC?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
    I presume you are using the custom workflow and not the std one.
    If so, in your workflow, is the user who is approving the PR is supposed to release he PR or it is different authority who will release PR ?
    If it the same authority who acts on user decision and who should release the PR, I could not get the purpose of not using the step <i>Overall Release</i> similar to std PR release workflow as against using the decision and background release step.
    Because, in this step of std workflow, user will have to act and release the PR and then you will have his name under workflow log.
    As Glauco indicated, for background steps, you will always have name of WF-BATCH.

  • Background Worker

    I 'm using NetBeans ide version 6.1, i created the sample desktop application for a project that am doing. My question is related to the background worker action that you can create automatically. I found out how to add an action on a button, and now i want to make a generic background worker that i can pass objects such as my jdbc queries and execute it. I want also to be able to to use tha animation / progress bar also.

  • [Solved] Lua with Conky gives unwanted background color

    Hi,
    I've Googled and ransacked the forum looking for an answer. I have Conky with lua on KDE4 and I cannot run both together without creating an unwanted background. After getting sidetracked with KDE4 transparency considerations, I discovered that if I start Conky without Lua, I can get proper transparency. If I start Conky with Lua enabled I get a background color. The Lua script doesn't seem to have any background settings. I'm not sure what files are relevant to post, the conkyrc and or the Lua script, which is quite large. I'm reasonably au fait with Conky but this is the first Conky I cannot get to function correctly. My basic question is how to use Lua without starting a background color. Here is where I got the original files http://www.linuxandlife.com/2012/06/get … -your.html . Of course, I can post the relevant Lua file if necessary but, as I  mentioned, it is quite large and I'm not clear on forum rules regarding posting large files of this type. Here's how Conky starts Lua:
    lua_load ~/.conky/avi9526_conky.lua
    lua_draw_hook_pre Widgets
    Thanks for your time.
    In case anyone is interested, changing line 1236 of the Lua script to cairo_set_source_rgba(CairoContext, 0.6, 0.61, 0.62, 0.0) did the trick.

    If you set your minimum_size and maximum_width variables you can make it any size that you want.
    So, lets say that you are using a 1280x1024 screensize.
    You can set your minimum_size to be 1200.  If you don't provide a second option, you are specifying the width.
    Then, if you set your maximum_width to be 1280,  or, if you want a 1 pixel gap on either side 1278,  then your conky will not go off the sides of the screen, and if you use any align option, then it will stay within that specified width.
    P.S.  The reason that it doesn't go all the way across your screen right now, is because there is not enough information being displayed to warrant anything larger.

  • Transaction/Report to process background work items which r in READY state

    HI,
    Can somebody kindly tell me the transaction/report program to process background work items which are in ready state. SM59 configuration was missing and hence, workflows failed to execute after being started successfully. Now, I want to comeplete these operations.
    Thanks a lot,

    Hi Max,
    Did you check transaction SWPC? If the workflows are in there you can start them through in a proper way.

  • Function module in background work process

    Hi All,
    i'm using trfc for processing FM only in background work process
    CALL FUNCTION 'FUNCTION_MODULE' IN BACKGROUND TASK
    but when i execute FM it's occupying two work process one is dialog (running current FM )and another one is background( running SAPLERFC) .
    so pls suugest me how to avaiod FM to occupy dialog workprocess.
    Regards,
    Anuj jain

    Hi Anuj,
    It unfortunately means:
    start FM in a particular time in Dialog work process
    The BACKGROUND word in abap syntax is misleading.
    For true background processing, i.e. background WORK PROCESS (of type BGD in SM50)
    ONLY  ABAP PROGRAMS or Commands or External Programs
    can be run under background work process. (as per SM36)
    Here we are trying a function module, which is not supported. This is as per my understanding.

  • Increase the number of background work processes for data load performance

    Hi all,
    There are 10 available background work processes in the BW system. We're doing some mass load to multiple ODS.But system uses only 3 background processes. How can i
    increase the number of used background work processes for new data load.
    I tried to change number of prosesses with RSODSO_SETTINGS. But no successes. Are there any other settings need to change?
    thanks,
    Yigit

    Hi sankar,
    I entered the max proc. number into ROIDOCPRMS. But it doesn't make difference. System still uses only 3 of background processes. RSCUSTA2 is replaced with
    RSODSO_SETTINGS in BI 7.0 and this trans. can only change the processes for data activation, SID generation and rollback. I need to change the process numbers for data extraction.

  • How to stop or reduce the RAM usage as the Wpf Datagrid is Continuosly being updated by background Worker?

    Hi,
    I am developing a packet sniffer application, I am getting a packets from adapter and am updating the information in the Wpf Datagrid using a Background worker. it is a continuous process. So if run this application for hours, after 5 or 6 hours I am getting
    a "Sytem.OutofMemoryException" as the RAM being full. Now my requirement is, the usage of RAM should have a some limit(suppose 750MB) for my application, once application reaches this, the usage of RAM should not increase and at the same time I should
    not get "OutofmemoryException". I mean application should free cached memory of starting Rows of DataGrid, means I should not display the initial Rows and I should display the latest entries. how can I achieve this?
    thanks,
    EDIT:
    Here I am using DataGrid.Items.Add() method to add the entries into the datagrid.
    How can I change my code to Observablecollection items now?

    You could remove entries from the ItemsSource collection of the DataGrid once the number of items reaches a certain threshold of items.
    If you for example use an ObservableCollection<T> as the ItemsSource of the DataGrid you could handle its CollectionChanged event and remove the oldest item when there are a total of say over 5000 (you may of course increase this value in your
    partiuclar application of you require to be able to display more than 5000 items in the DataGrid) items in it. This will make sure that there will never by any more than 5000 items kept in memory:
    const int MaxCount = 5000;
    public MainWindow()
    InitializeComponent();
    ObservableCollection<string> collection = new ObservableCollection<string>();
    collection.CollectionChanged += (ss, ee) =>
    if (collection.Count > MaxCount)
    collection.RemoveAt(0);
    yourDataGrid.ItemsSource = collection;
    Since there is no good way to determine exactly how much physical memory the objects in the ObservableCollection<T> occupy so you better choose a maximum
    number of items to be kept in memory (like MaxCount = 5000 in the sample code above) and then remove the oldest one when the number of items reach this maximum.
    Hope that helps.

  • Background Worker + batch processing

    Hi,
    I have 2 issues in the same project.
    Issue 1:
    I have a project using the Object API. I've created a VB.NET assembly that encapsulates the Object API's in this project. The assembly is instantiated from a VB.NET form application for testing. When calling one of the methods in the assembly by pressing a button the function runs fine. However, when running the same function from a background worker, it throws an exception. I've included a sample project here that replicates the issue.
    Issue 2:
    The same project is also called from a batch file. When testing the app from the debugger, again it runs fine. When calling the app from the batch file, an exception is thrown instantiating the GroupWise Application object. Again, i've included sample code.
    If anyone can shed some light on these isssues, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Tim

    > Hmmm Batch processing on 1.5 does not work.
    Please explain what steps you take, and what error messages you get.
    > Does it work any better in 2 or 3??
    Batch processing in all versions of AA is identical.
    Why do you use 4 versions of CE/AA?

  • Free background work process
