Unwanted Contrast in Printing!

Hey all, I need your help!
I am using Adobe Acrobat 8.1.4 on a Mac Mini. I have been using both Acrobat and Preview in order to print out a PDF file. When I print it, the document comes out printed (hp laserjet p2055dn) in a contrast (black text and a white background in a file is printed as a black background and white text). I want to remedy this problem.
I have tried the following:
-Turning the printer off and on
-Installing new drivers/software for the printer itself.
-Restarting the computer
-Changing the print settings to ensure that there is no contrast
-Changing the preferences in Acrobat to ensure that the contrast is correct
After doing all of this, and seeing the document as "normal" in the preview, it still prints with the contrast.
I thought that the issue could be in upgrading Acrobat, but this issue still occurs when I print with Preview, so it seems to be a more systemic issue.
I would appreciate your help! Thanks.

Hmmm, was this PDF made on a PC maybe?
Load the PDF in Preview, Export to GIF or such, can you invert the colors & print the GIF correctly?

  • High contrast text printing

    I have a PDF that has grey text on a white background.  How can I get my F2210 to print the grey text in pure, solid black/white and not grey scale?  Office copiers had a contrast setting which you could set high to darken a light grey into solid black.  A faded document could be darkened but at the expense of printing some small specks.

    Hello,
    I understand you are seeing your print outs as grey text on a white background. I would like to help and I am sorry for the frustration.
    I have researched the "Print Quality" issue for you and I have located a document that I recommend you follow.

    Another suggestion I have is to check your ink levels to see if you have significant black ink left as it may need to be changed.
    I hope this helps you!

  • Adjusting contrast on printer window 8620

    There is very little contrast in the window showing apps and options for print, scan, fax etc. very faint and hard to read. How do I adjust the contrast so it is easier to read?

    Hello @prkrgrp,
    I'm sorry to hear that the touchscreen contract on your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer is too faint for you to read it properly. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue.
    This may be a bit challenging as you're having a hard time reading your display, but the setting is altered on the screen for your printer.
    On your printer screen, slide your finger to the left (like a touchscreen phone), until you see Setup
    Touch Setup to access the Setup menu
    Touch Printer Setup
    Slide your finger down until you see Screen Brightness (should be your 5th option)
    Touch Screen Brightness to access this menu
    You will now see a scroll bar. Slide the bar over to the far right for the brightest screen display option
    Once you settle on a screen that suites your needs simply select OK on the bottom right
    Please let me know if these steps resolve your display issues. I look forward to hearing from you. Have a Happy New Year!

  • Unwanted layer is printing in Adobe Reader

    I created an interactive PDF in indesign cs 5.5. The menu navigation is on its own layer. In Adobe acrobat I set the properties of the nav. menu layer to never print. When I print from Adoe Reader version 11.0.02 the menu does not print, whether its open or not. When I send it to another person the nav. menu layer does print. Is there something else I can do so the nav. menu will show up in the menu but no print?

    After another email from the person, I learned she is viewing the pdf in Internet Explorer. I'm not sure which version but I think she is using Windows XP and IE 7 or 8.

  • How to delete unwanted TCP/IP Printer Ports

    Windows 7 64bit; I have created, in error, one TCP/IP Printer Port which I would like to delete to keep the Ports clean of rubish, but I am unable to find how to do so.
    Can anyone help?
    Nevio

    You get the 'port is in use' error message if the port is currently assigned to a printer. It has nothing to do with print spooler - it's just that you can't delete a port that is already assigned to a printer.
    1. When you open properties and go to the 'Ports' tab, you have your printers listed with headings - Port, Description, Printer.
    2. Identify the printer using the port that you want to delete, exit out of printer properties window and delete the printer.
    3. Right Click on any of the remaining listed printers and select 'Properties' (if there is none left then you craft create a fake printer).
    4. Click the Ports tab.
    5. Select the port and click “Delete port".
    6. Check any available port and exit out of 'properties' window.
    The above will work in many cases but unfortunately not all. You may well find one of a couple of problems. One symptom is that having removed printer(s) and exited from "Devices and Printers" - if you re-enter "Devices
    and Printers"  the printers have returned. Another symptom is that  Windows will not let you delete the port as described above.
    There are three things I have encountered which can need fixing. One is that there are print jobs queued on the printer. If this job can be cancelled that fixes that, otherwise stop and re-start
    the print spooler. the third is the "in use" message mentioned below.
    The second situation is that a program - in my case foxit reader - is somehow associated with the printer you are trying to remove when you look through the full list of Ports. I had to un-install
    Foxit and only re-install it after the printer situation was resolved.
    Thirdly you may have to go into "Programs and Features" and un-install the software associated with the printer.

  • Unwanted margins when printing images

    All,
    I have an application that loads images from a chosen directory and loads them into tabs. I then have print options. All is fine printing however there is a 1" border around the image. This seems to squish the image smaller which results in more difficulty reading.
    I have aquired a PrintImage class for GIF's somewhere from the Sun site and modified it to also accept JPG and PNG. Can anyone give an idea on how set the margin attributes from this code?
    public class PrintImage {
        public void PrintImage(String path, String type) {
            /* Use the pre-defined flavor for a GIF from an InputStream */
            DocFlavor flavor = null;
            if (type.equals("gif")) {
                flavor = DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.GIF;
            } else if (type.equals("jpg") || type.equals("jpeg")) {
                flavor = DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.JPEG;
            } else if (type.equals("png")) {
                flavor = DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.PNG;
            /* Create a set which specifies how the job is to be printed */
            PrintRequestAttributeSet aset = new HashPrintRequestAttributeSet();
            aset.add(MediaSizeName.NA_LETTER);
            aset.add(new Copies(1));
            /* Locate print services which can print a GIF in the manner specified */
            PrintService[] pservices =
                    PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(flavor, aset);
            if (pservices.length > 0) {
                /* Create a Print Job */
                DocPrintJob printJob = pservices[0].createPrintJob();
                /* Create a Doc implementation to pass the print data */
                Doc doc = new InputStreamDoc(path, flavor);
                /* Print the doc as specified */
                try {
                    printJob.print(doc, aset);
                } catch (PrintException e) {
                    System.err.println(e);
            } else {
                Component frame = null;
                JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(frame,
                "No suitable printers.",
                "Print error",
                JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);
        public static void main(String args[]) {
    class InputStreamDoc implements Doc {
        private String filename;
        private DocFlavor docFlavor;
        private InputStream stream;
        public InputStreamDoc(String name, DocFlavor flavor) {
            filename = name;
            docFlavor = flavor;
        public DocFlavor getDocFlavor() {
            return docFlavor;
        /* No attributes attached to this Doc - mainly useful for MultiDoc */
        public DocAttributeSet getAttributes() {
            return null;
            /* Since the data is to be supplied as an InputStream delegate to
             * getStreamForBytes().
        public Object getPrintData() throws IOException {
            return getStreamForBytes();
        /* Not possible to return a GIF as text */
        public Reader getReaderForText()
        throws UnsupportedEncodingException, IOException {
            return null;
            /* Return the print data as an InputStream.
             * Always return the same instance.
        public InputStream getStreamForBytes() throws IOException {
            synchronized(this) {
                if (stream == null) {
                    stream = new FileInputStream(filename);
                return stream;
    }

    To set a custom margin, you need to create a custom paper size. To do this, go into Page Setup, and under Paper Size choose Manage Custom Sizes. In the new dialog, click the plus sign at the bottom left to create a new size. Set the paper size to whatever you want (it should be 8.5X11" for letter, of course), and then set the margins to the size you need. Once you click the OK button, this paper size will now be available to choose in the Page Setup dialog.

  • Unwanted italics when printing

    I'm using CS2 in Leopard on an iMac, and printing with a LaserJet P2015. My document uses Times New Roman regular as body text, but prints as italics. My paragraph styles and character styles are all set to regular. It does it as a indd file and also in Inbooklet SE.
    My Epson C83 did not do this even after I updated to Leopard.
    How do I fix this/work around?

    Enable download PPD fonts in the print options.

  • Unwanted languages and printer drivers

    how do i get rid of unwated languages and printer drivers. i heard it frees like 4 gb.

    Ok so to get rid of languages: try 'monolingual' its an app that allows you to delete languages and a few other things.
    You can find it here: http://monolingual.sourceforge.net/
    DO NOT DELETE ENGLISH OR ANY ARCHITECTURES UNLESS YOU ARE REALLY REALLY SURE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!!!
    It will really really screw up your system, so as with anything system related make sure you have a full back-up before you do anything!
    As for deleting printer drivers, I have no clue... anyone?

  • Unwanted LaserJet 4100 Print Driver Download - Desperate - help!

    HP has downloaded a Print Driver for LaserJet 4100 which I do not have and did not ask for.  I do not have HP Update enabled on my machine.
    This driver has now installed it no less than 30 times on my computer and wiped out all previous dates in System Restore.  How do I find where this is and get rid of it.
    Help, please.  This is crashing my business computer!

    I apologize as I did not write exactly what I was thinking. I remember you stating there was a computer that you did not have access to, which has 4100 software on it, but no 4100 printer attached. I made an assumption that it was on the network, as well. Sorry for the misinterpretation.
    The update process for drivers works along these lines, depending on the particular printer, of course. When an update for drivers is requested either manually or by software, then a connection is made to download new drivers. Now, if everything is perfect, then the correct drivers are downloaded. However, if something indicates that 4100 drivers are needed, even though that is wrong, it will try to get those drivers. If it does not retrieve what it believes to be the "correct" drivers, then it will try again, but in this case, it obviously failed. I do not know how many times it will try to get the "correct" drivers, but from the sounds of it, much too many times. Whatever is downloading these updates is not satisfied with the results.
    In this case, my suggestion would be to remove any HP software through uninstallation. I would even uninstall the C6180. If there are no other HP devices attached to the computer, then I would also remove any unused HP folders. This would include the HP 4.7 folder, as there may be driver update software located there, possibly including HP 4100 software. Once removed, then reboot the machine, and reinstall the C6180 printer. Remember to opt for the manual updates, not the automatic updates. At that point, there should not be anything on your computer that would request any kind of HP update at all.

  • Unwanted noise when printing in laser jet 1018

    I've been using laser jet 1018 for many years and all of a sudden it starts screech when printing. What can I do to stop this?
    If there is nothing to do but buying a new printer which other printer uses the same same toner cartridge?

    Hello magistern,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
    The noise that you are experiencing could be cause by many different scenarios. The basis troubleshooting would include making sure the printer power cable is connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip.  Taking a light weight lubricating oil and applying very little to the gears.
    I realize that you have had this printer for some time. If you would like to see about some out of warranty options, I suggest  calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you.
