Unwanted dot pattern in Photoshop CS4
Recently, a dot pattern of about 35 dots evenly spaced on a straight line repeated on maybe 6 lines, all the same color, have begun to appear on some images I am developing. Overall, the pattern is about 1.5 by 2.5 inches. I am using a new MacPro with a 26" NEC MultiSync monitor, running MacOS 10.5.6 with 8GB of RAM and a large dedicated scratch disk. These are very large images, about 2.2 GB in size. Has anyone experienced something like this?
Sorry, I had misplaced this email as my MacPro was at Apple being diagnosed for this problem when you responded to me. Apple had it for a week and they said that the only time this problem occurred was in Pshop.
The images are a composite of photos that I had taken with an XTi and then later masked. The working image could be 55 or so layers which are composed at 36 by 46 by 180; the file could be 2.2 GB. Sometime in the evolving process, the dots suddenly appear. This has happened to me about 6 times. Once when I had first noticed them, they were only visible at 33 1/3 and 50 percent magnifications so I duplicated the image at another magnification and they were no longer visible at any zoom level. All the other times, they became a part of the image. My guess is that was brought about by saving the file. I wish Adobe would be helpful but they are not. They have an incredibly bad tech support. My last call prompted a reply to to download a patch even though I had told him I was running 11.0.1. Below is a screen grab of the dots at about 1.5 by 2.75 inches. They could be other colors. I've seen green and red but always they are one color.

Photoshop CS4 printing everything in dots???
My Photoshop CS4 has been running fine and then this past week I printed a document I created and the whole thing came out as a series of small dots...including the fonts. Also, I tried printing various high resolution stock photos that have printed fine from Photoshop in the past, and they all came out dotted too.
The document I created was 8.5 x 11, 300 dpi, CMYK. In order to determine if the problem was my printer, I saved the file as a .jpg and opened it in Windows Picture & Fax Viewer. I printed the document from that program and I got a great print...no dots! So it seems it has something to do with Photoshop and I am clueless. I haven't changed any of the prefs or settings, so I'm not sure what is going on.
Does anyone know what might be happening? I appreciate any wisdom or insight, as I have none!From your Photoshop Print dialog (i.e., the window that opens when you choose File - Print), press the Print Settings button.
Ensure all your printer settings, including those in Advanced sections, are set to your preferences. Chances are something's set to "Draft" mode or to a minimal dot pitch.
You don't need to actually print something to get these settings to "stick". Just press the Done button.

Brush stroke pattern that i want to use as a background in Photoshop CS4.
I've painted a piece of paper with a brush stroke pattern that i want to use as a background in Photoshop CS4. I know how to make a fill layer and apply a colour to a shape, but can you do this for a pattern you've made? I also want to make the pattern a certain pink, and select an elipse in the middle which would just be a different colour section of the same pattern. Is this possible?

Extract and Pattern Maker filters in Photoshop CS4?
What happened to the Extract and Pattern Maker filters in Photoshop CS4? Are they gone or placed somewhere else?

I might be an old fart! But I love extract... Are there any other way to make transparent pixels on the edges on the object you want cut out?
Personally I cry at night for the semi-loss of Extract! This means that Adobe wont improve it any more and with time the filter might be all gone!?!

professional cs4app.activeDocument.fullName.fsName will get you the full path to the file but if the document has not been saved it will throw an error.

Photoshop CS4 and CC/CS6 crashing for no apparent reason (Windows 7)
I’m currently having a serious problem with my Photoshop CS4 where it continuously crashes, for no apparent reason, since July 16, 2013. I have done everything recommended via Adobe forum to try and fix this problem though it still persists. It crashes randomly and I am usually unable to use Photoshop for more than 20 minutes. Since this incident, I thought that perhaps updating my Photoshop to the current version i.e. Photoshop CC would fix the problem. Can anyone PLEASE help?I to have the same issue and it all started after switching photoshop cc's layout to 3d mode now everything crashes repeatedly... Thankgod AE still works but yeah ps 3d system is the culprate here b/c It worked perfectly for 4 months for me until i tried there crappy ps 3d system!

Photoshop CS4 - Licensing Error 150:30
I have a MacBook with the OS X Maverick Operating System and have had no prior issues using my Photoshop CS4. My computer recently crashed and had to have my operating system re-installed. I tried to open up Photoshop today and this window popped up: "Licensing for this product has stopped working". I tried restarting the computer like the window mentioned and that did nothing. I also tried the solutions listed on the Adobe website for the Error: 150:30 and nothing has worked. My main problem is I cannot finish the "solutions" because I cannot locate the folder "FlexNet" or "FlexNet Licensing" or anything of that nature that is referred to in the solutions.
The Licensing repair tool does work. OSX 10.7 and above:
Download and open LicenseRecovery111.dmg on your Desktop
Open Terminal and type sudo and leave a space. <do not press "Enter" yet>.
Open the License Folder on the opened LicenseRecovery111.dmg and drag
"LicenseRecover.py" file into the Terminal Window.
The sudo command and path to the .py file should look like the screenshot below.
Press Enter to begin
Type in your password, but know that you will not see dots or asterisks as you type.
Press Enter again, let the script run and finish. You should be able to run Photoshop now.

Unable to open or create files in photoshop CS4
Suddenly my Photoshop CS4 has stopped working. I can open the program, but are not able to either open files (jpg, psd, tif ++) or create new files. No error message, it just doesn't happen anything. The program doesn't stop working either, I can still browse all menues or try to open the file again, but nothing happens, it's just like the functions doesn't work. Sometimes I''m able to open a file, by browsing my computer and choose "open in photoshop cs4". Then the file opens in Photoshop, but I'm not able to do anything. No menues or actions are working. I'm running 64bit Windows 7 on a Lenovo T420s laptop.
I'm running photoshop version 11.0.2
I have tried to reset the preferences, tried to reinstall Photoshop, tried other versions (CS5) and even tried to reinstall my computer. Doesn't help, the program is still not working.
What can cause this?

Installed TWAIN devices: NONEI am not sure why some computer mfgrs. are going to the dual video chip setup, but it does seem popular.
As you found out, the use of the Intel chip can be problematic. We see this a lot in the Adobe Premiere (video editing program) Forums, and it has become a real sore spot.
One of the major weaknesses is that while Intel makes great chips, they have historically had abysmal driver support. Some computer mfgrs. to re-write the Intel drivers, and that can help - but it can also hurt, depending on the regularity, that they issue new drivers. Even a simple OS update/hot-fix can render a video driver obsolete. That is one reason that ATI/AMD and nVidia issue drivers with such regularity (usually about 1/mo.).
Good luck, and wish that I had some "fix" for you. With some computers, users HAVE been able to disable the Intel graphics chip, but it does not sound like that will be the case with your computer. Have you looked at setting the video chip in the BIOS w/ SETUP?

HELP- Printing Problem with Photoshop CS4
Hello Everyone,
I just bought the PHOTOSHOP CS4, and I am having problem when it prints. The image is not clear, it has dots (pixels). This computer where I installed this program is brand new. I have previously worked with Photoshop CS2 and never had an issue but was force to buy this new one because the computer that I bought has Windows Vista and CS2 is not compatible. I thought maybe the problem was my printer but is not I have a Brother HL-5140 (black and white). I have connected my old computer with the printer and the images print perfectly fine. I have printed photos and it prints clear. But this only happens with Photoshop CS4. It prints dots, can someone please help me. Is driving me crazy.Really I'd be willing to bet it's your driver under Vista.
I have the same problem using Vista and a older HP LaserJet, under XP and CS2 it prints well. Under Vista it's a bunch of dithered pixelated dots.
They want you to buy a newer printer. -

But another poster has had problems with his Canon 9900 not printing (but no blank page).
The first thing to do is make sure you are using the Canon drivers and not the GutenPrint/GimpPrint drivers.
After that, you probably need to check with Canon. -

Will Adobe fix this and make them compatable? I have a fortune invested in fonts I'm not about to toss. What are Adobe and Apple going to do about this? Who's issue is it really? I am not the only one having his issue.
Thank you for any input.And what fonts exactly? If you're using fonts from the stone age this may be unavoidable. Beyond that a single "bad" font can drag down Adobe apps, which does not necessarily have to be the one you use currently. It's mere existance and PS stumbling over it when populating the fonts list would be enough... The rest is in the details, but as always, start by removing all your fonts and adding them only back on an "as needed" basis. and if you realyl have that many fonts, using a font manager might be advisable to keep lists neat and tidy...

Photoshop cs4 new system integration and network problems
Hi there!
I am new to the forums, but I will just dive right into my issue rather than introducing myself:
I recently did a new hardware install (16 TB of clustered storage) at a mograph studio that are heavy users of Photoshop CS4, amongst other things. Prior to the new storage, they primarily used an Xserve with attached RAID device, and CS3. They are now experience high amounts of file corruption on PSDs from saving over the network. I am, of course, aware the Adobe does not support network saving, due to the plethora of problems that may exist and the difficulty of recreating such varied environments. I also know that neither Apple nor Adobe seem overtly concerned with this problem, although they may have fixed it with updates in CS3. The users are aware of this fact, but continue to stress that they had "no problems what so ever on the xserve".
Basically, aside from the facts that are available in http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html and found on the forums, has ANYONE found an exceptable work around for these sort of issues. Also, we tried the "save as" fix that was posted on these forums, and that did not work either.
Please, any help is extremely appreciated. ThanksIf you have a working network and servers -- it can work. (and does for most of the servers inside Adobe, and those in my home)
But if anything (OS, network, server) malfunctions -- the process breaks in difficult to diagnose ways.
Photoshop is already following all the safe file save guidelines, testing for permissions, testing for space availability, etc. But still things fail on networks. And when we look into the failures, it's rarely the same cause and usually can't be worked around in any reasonable manner.
As application developers, we're frustrated too. We know it can work. We know it should work. But some things are too far beyond our control.
Bottom line: Finder and Explorer add a lot more error checking to server file copies, and do their copies in relatively simple patterns (unlike file saves that can involve random seeks and writes, depending on the format). Saving locally and copying to the server afterward is going to be safer (adds at least 2 more layers of error checking). The same goes for copying from the server then opening -- though we see far fewer errors reading from a server than writing to a server. -
Photoshop CS4 Issue with NVIDIA 8800 Video Card?
I have an Mac Pro Intel 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Xeon with 6GB RAM running OS X 10.5.5 and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT driving two monitors.
I just installed Adobe Photoshop CS4 fresh from a factory CD.
When I perform a Distort -> Lens Correction or do a Free Transform to rotate an image an arbitrary amount, and then follow that with a resize (tried 133% and 166%), the image ends up with a pattern of gray plaid overlaid -- especially visible in the darkest shadows. The pattern appears only on the rotated layers of an image.
This pattern persists if I quit and restart Photoshop, BUT -- there's no pattern visible if I open the same image in Photoshop CS3. It only appears in CS4.
This is easy to reproduce -- I just tried it with an image I created in Photoshop at 5x7" at 240dpi and filled with solid black.
I dropped a Bug Report to Adobe, and they wrote back suggesting "This is most likely an issue with your video card driver."
Anybody else out there having this issue? Anyone with an identical setup want to test this?

Photoshop CS4 Crash at startup
My wife recently opened Photoshop CS4, which she's been using successfully every day since last April, and it crashed. The windows and tool bar show up for five seconds or so and then it just crashes and gives me this useless drivel:

It also adds a TON of unreadable code below the above. I've tried resetting the preferences. The Applecare people referred me to Adobe, who in turn wants to charge me $40 to access their support for CS4, which infuriates me. I'll ask here, first.
One thing that might be of interest: My wife ran a software update to her iMac the day before CS4 started dying. Could it be a new scanner driver or something? The details about my computer:

Is Photoshop fully updated?

As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
