Unwanted e-mail, new user id

I've started to receive a fair amount of unwanted e-mail, even got one with C.c showing a dozen or so other .mac e-mail addresses. now I also receive e-mail with just a portion of my id correct (ie. only part of the/my e-mail address is correct) so how is it getting into my mail?
considering changing my .mac id. but will this mean i loose my aliases, homepage address etc. also?
a lot of this junk mail carries the 'spam' as an image so cannot be sifted by rules, or can it?

A spammer can also use the Bcc: field along with the To and Cc fields when addressing a message (most or many do now) and all email addresses placed in the Bcc field are invisible to all recipients.

HT3309 Share mail settings with new user account on the same mac?

I have had to set-up a new user account on my mbp to use a new piece of software which refused to work on the main user account. I want to transfer the mail settings from the original one simply so that mail opens in an identical way whichever account I'm siging in with.

If you just need Mail settings, only copy
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
All the messages are in
~/Library/Mail

As a new user I received an answer to my question but how do I stop the barrage of incoming mail - local advisor suggested Junk mail, but is this the answer?

Click Manage email notifications. This manages any current email notifications you are receiving.

The voice mail does not come as attachment for new users

We have installed the unity 7.0 as the unified messaging, the existing exchange was 2007, everything was working fine, now we have got exchange 2010, and the new users to be added are in the new exchange 2010, but in the same container. so we tried running the permission wizard, it went through, we noticed one thing during the permission wizard at the step where we select the mail store (screen says select Mailstores exchange mailstore) I do not see the 2010 server.
Please let me know what are the things need to be done on unity and exchange if we are moving from the exchange 2007 to 2010.

Hi Lal,
There are very specific instructions on how to migrate to Exchange 2010. If the steps are not followed precisely in order, Unity will not function properly:

E-sourcing couldn't send out E-mail notification of new user.

Dear experts,
I got stuck on SMTP issue when configuring a E-sourcing sandbox, when I created some Buy-side users, the system was not able to send out the notifications but all stuck in "Queued Messages" .
I browsed in the system, the settings related with the SMTP function including below items:
1: "Source Email" in Company Properties, this email address is going to be indicated as the sender of a new user notification;
2: "Messaging" configuration in System Properties:
( messaging messaging.smtp.mailhost
messaging messaging.smtp.password
messaging messaging.smtp.username )
I have set up above fields as the same as a working E-sourcing application, but my sandbox still doesn't work for me, the new user created can't receive the notification to become a valid user of the system, so they will not be able to logon to the system without password information.
Would you please advice me what should I do, any of your response in highly appreciated!

Please verify a couple of things:
1. Is the functional e-sourcing box is running on the same version of Sandbox version (which you are configuring)
2. Verify that "New User" notification template is set to active in the email templates setting through setup
3. If no issues with 1 and 2 then would suggest to clear mail queue from backend and try generating a new email

Account mail for user can't create after create new users account

I have a recent installation of Server MacOS X 10.5 like advanced server. The services DNS, DHCP, OPEN DIRECTORY and MAIL are lifted and they work very well.
Now when I believe a new user account, it is not also believed the mailbox of messages in the mail server in spite of activating the electronic mail service in the user's account.
Please somebody can help me.

Mailboxes are created only when they either receive mail for the first time or are accessed via IMAP the first time.

Putting old mail in new user account.

Sorry this may be a really simple question,
I've had mail running on the administrators account for a couple of years, I'm just creating user accounts for all the different people who use it. I want them all to be able to access the old sent messages and the entire archive of their mailbox.
How can I put this information into the new user accounts?
Is it just a case of dragging the relevant files from the Adminstrators library>mail account?

I worked with MobileMe support and found that I had to add main account to user account temporarily while I moved files, then deleted account

Mail thinks I am a new user

My Powerbook G4, 10.4.11 has been giving me some problems lately, I think the hard drive is about to go. I'll get the message to force restart with the power button, etc. After the last time it happened, when I then opened Mail, it asked me to register as a new user.
I have a recent full HD clone on an external firewire HD, and compared the User/Library/Mail folders for both drives, and they look to be the same, with the only difference being my backup drive shows a file called SmartMailBoxes.plist. I don't have any Smart Mailboxes set up, but that's the only additional file on the backup.
So, it looks like my main HD still has all the data in my Mail account, so is there a way to get the computer to not keep asking me to register, and to find my existing account info? I'm afraid if I register, I'll lose all my existing email from the main drive. I would have most of it on the backup, but not the most recent email, which I hope still shows up.

Also, compare the sizes on those folders with Get Info in the Finder.
The problem is likely this file...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
But for safety,
On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
For Address Book, quit AB...
Files...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
Folders...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Replace the current /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist with the ione from the clone.
Reboot.

New user/account in Mail - how do I get Set-up assistant off?

I am helping a friend set up their new Mac Pro. They have never owned a computer - and they are using Leopard.
The outgoing mail server, etc... isn't working. I want to just get him into Mail Preferences and set up the accounts there.
However the Set-up assistant keeps saying "Welcome to Mail" and he can't seem to get past this (according to him on the phone)...

Please clarify: if he can't get past Welcome to Mail, how does he know the outgoing server will not work?
If there is one account set up, you can hold down the Option key when clicking on the + to add an account, and bypass the account setup assistant.
You could create a New User Account on your Mac, and as that New User setup one account, and then email him the com.apple.mail.plist file from that New User Home Directory/Library/Preferences -- archived to properly email I would expect would be needed. If he then replaced that file, if one exists, in his Home directory/same location, then at least one account should be ready to go when he next launches Mail.

New Users can't access mail, "Access" granted but still not working! Help!

I am running snow leopard 10.6.6 and I am having an issue where new users cannot log onto their mail accounts from programs nor the web. Though their mailboxes are set up and recieving email just fine. There logins work everywhere else (wiki, blogs, workstations), but when trying to login to mail they get that the username or password is incorrect.
This does not affect the admin. And we have enabled access in the services area of server admin as well as restarted the server. Any other help? I searched and saw that solution but no others. Any help?

Ok I always like to close out my posts. For my new users not being able to login for Mail. The issue with the IMAP with mail clients was resolved by a repair of disk permissions & a restart. Not sure what happened there 100%. But saw that tip in another thread.
Post that, I was still unable to log into webmail for users. They were getting an error:
ERROR Error connecting to IMAP server: localhost. 61 : Connection refused
This was caused by the fact that i set IMAP to REQUIRE SSL, but for some reason Squirrel Mail did not reconfigure itself to match those settings. So to do that, you have to use terminal to put up an admin for Squirrelmail.
Enter
sudo /usr/share/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
this pulls up an easy config menu for Squirrel mail. I needed to change two things, under SERVER SETTINGS, then UPDATE IMAP SETTINGS, then you have to change both IMAP PORT to 993 and SECURE IMAP to YES. Save and Quit ad you are up and running.
