Unwanted FX editing across multiple layers

Hi there,
I am using the new Photoshop CC 2014 and I have some effects placed on some layers (drop shadows, embossed effects etc.).  When I attempt to add for example a drop shadow to a new layer (or edit it in a previous layer) and change the angle of the shadow, it for some reason changes every angle of every effect that I have on every other layer.  So when I place a drop shadow at 90 degrees, even my embossed angles will too move to 90 degrees.  Has anyone had this issue or know of a solution?!  It is very annoying!
As far as I know the layers are not linked or anything.
Thanks!

  • How to share the same mask across multiple layers?

Say one needs multiple layers, one above another, to share the same layer mask. Is there any smart way to tell all those layers they have to use the same mask? As opposed to copying the same mask into all layers. The latter approach has the disadvantage that, when you need to change the mask, you need to copy it again into all layers that must share it.
    Thank you.

Put the Layers in a Set and apply the mask to that.

  • How to edit across multiple take folders...?

I have sessions recorded in several takes, using multiple mics recording to different tracks.
I'm comping from the takes and want to be able to (for instance) simultaneously select the same parts of each take for a violin spot mic as well as two room mics for ambience. Working on each track separately is tedious as well as inaccurate. I'm guessing there must be a way to identically edit more than one take folder at the same time but can't find that info in the documentation.

This is a little time consuming, but will get the job done. Try creating another track. Then record a blank space for a measure or so. Then option-drag (copy) blank space into the empty spots. If too small to fill, drag-extend, if too large, drag-shrink or split. Continue to do this until all blank spaces are filled. Then select entire track and join together. You now have one continuous track. Delete the extra track. Remember if you make any mistakes along the way, you can always undo! Since this is a long process, and you might mess up big-time at some point, you might want to keep the original version. Duplicate the file before beginning editing process, you can always delete it later.

  • Why can't I select an area across multiple layers in Photoshop?

I am trying to select an area on more than one layer and use the transform tool on only that area, leaving the rest of the image on the layers the same. According to all the forums I've checked it is said to be impossible to select an area on more than one layer in Photoshop. Although, I would think that after 5 or more versions of this program they would have figured it out by now. Adobe Flash, Illustrator, and Indesign can easily do this with more than 100 layers. So why not Photoshop? It seems like such a simple and useful task. Why would they leave it out of Photoshop?

    HI,
Once upon a time when the Apple Discussions needed you to be at Level 4 (same Points) to access the Lounge several "Level 4s" of the time used to hold a Saturday (night for me) Chat.
Needeses to say I created a group in iChat itself and also in the Address Book.
The group in the Contacts app still exists.
Top to Bottom highlighting can be achieved with the Shift key before the second click (like elsewhere).
However you cannot drag the whole group to the "To" spot in Message and have it fill in all the names.
Also in Messages creating a New Message then using the blue + icon and attempting to select the whole Group (They show up here) only grabs the first Click and ignores the Shift key modifier.
Using a Buddy List and at least those on Line then the Shift Key and a double click on one of the highlighted Buddies  enters all the Names in the "To" spot.
In Mail dragging a group from Contacts to the "To" field seems to require a bit of a lucky drop when the green + icon appears.
It also seems to depend "where" the email is in the Address Card.
I was using a different Group but it was still based on iChat/Messages buddies.
Some display older @mac.com  in the IM section under AIM and these don't make the "transfer".
Mail is not my strong point and there maybe some other way to get multiple people in the "To"  field without doing one at a time.

  • Sample accurate editing across multiple files

I'm editing a podcast and need to use zero-crossing points to make inaudible edits.
I have two vocal tracks, in sync, and want to be able to select zero-crossings in one and then ripple delete (e.g. to remove a word), applying that same edit to the other track so that everything stays in sync.
Obviously I can do this by selecting both tracks and using the timeslice tool - but that won't find zero crossings. I can find the crossings in the wavefile editor, but I don't know how to copy those edits to more than one track.
I'm sure this is obvious - I feel as if I'm missing something. I need help.

Here's just a thought on how I would approach that.
In the multi-track, I'd pan one track hard left and the other hard right, then export as a single stereo track. Then bring that back in as an audio file project, make all the edits you want, save it, then split the stereo track back into two mono tracks at the end of the edit process.
    Hope that'll help!

  • In Flash CS4, how do you select multiple anchor points across separate layers?

I am talking about anchor points on a line, not a keyframe. They are also called "handles". I can select the anchor points as "white" quickly, but I can't get them to be "solid"without doing it layer by layer, which is tedious. What I want is way to select lines that are in different layers and get the points I selected in a way similar to the regular selection tool or free transform tool. I have been trying to do this all day and I can't find a good way to do this, and I would appreciate any help.
Here is an image of what I'm trying to do, but more easily. The lines are on separate layers, but when I select them with the subselection tool I have to go layer by layer selecting the points. I'm trying to look for a very quick way of doing it. When I do select all with the subselection tool on, the anchor points are only "white" and not "solid" as shown below.

Now you're post was a while ago and I still need a solution, but I have to say this. I didn't mean to be rude to you; it’s just that it doesn’t answer my question I specified in the original post. I know your intentions are good, but it frustrates me when someone doesn’t fully read a post and offers a solution, it sometimes gives a false impression that the problem is taken care of. Example of being "helpful": http://forums.adobe.com/message/2540277    Yes I know there is a “Yes, my question has been answered,” but you know they don’t always select it, and other people know that as well. But you are right; I should probably act a little bit nicer and reiterate what I’ve already said before, I’ll probably get more help from it. It just seems to be a simple feature that seems to be needed to be in the program. I didn't mean it takes forever to move, it takes forever to select multiple anchor points across, let's say 10 layers, so that's 10 different lines on 10 layers. You have to select each layer and then select the anchor points. If there is an away to select anchor points across all layers in one go please tell me. Maybe I was wrong, but I could’ve sworn I’ve seen ideas that were posted on here get taken into Adobe as a suggestion, but yes I submitted it as a suggestion to Adobe, but I wanted to confirm that there was no way of doing it first since it seems kind unbelievable because the regular selection tool works across multiple layers.

  • Is it possible to select specific properties of multiple layers at once?

I know that you can alter, opacity for example, of multiple layers at the same time by selecting the opacity property of each layer. But what if there are so many layers that you want to select a single property of many layers at once?
For example, I want to edit the value of the "mask expansion" property of a lot of layers, but don't want to go through and select "mask expansion" on every single layer. Surely there must be a way to select specific properties across multiple layers?

No, unfortunately there isn't. Such stuff is based on the property control actually being visible and being equally visibly selected. Unless you linked it with expressions, it won't sync without the properties being revealed and selected.

  • Photoshop CC 14.1 editing paths on multiple layers disabled?

Has editing paths on multiple layers with the direct selection tool been disabled in Photoshop CC 14.1? I can't seem to figure out how to do it now, shift- or command-clicking doesn't do anything. In fact, I can't even click to select individual paths on different layers, something that Photoshop has had forever.
While it was at times problematic the way it was in 14.0 (always selecting multiple layers and having to go into isolation mode to edit just one), there were times when it was useful to edit multiple layers, or even just click between layers with the direct selection tool.
I've seen this documentation on the site, but I'm not sure it's very helpful. Can someone give me some assistance?
Also, what is the custom keyboard shortcut for entering/exiting isolation mode? It is mentioned in the above image, but what actually is it?

You can still work with paths the way you could in 14.0 -- just choose the All Layers mode in the Path Selection tool or Direct Selection tool options bar. We added the Active Layers mode for users who prefer to isolate which paths can be selected based on which layers they have already selected in the Layers panel.
    To clarify:
-Active Layers mode: Clicking or dragging on the canvas with the vector selection tools will not affect which layers are selected in the Layers panel. Double-click to enter isolation mode is disabled.
-All Layers mode: Works just like in 14.0 -- clicking or dragging on the canvas with the vector selection tools can change which layers are selected in the Layers panel. Double-click to enter isolation mode is enabled.
If you find yourself switching between these two modes a lot, you can add a custom keyboard shortcut that will toggle which mode is selected. In the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, choose Shortcuts For: Tools and scroll down to the Direct Selection Mode Toggle option. Add your new keyboard shortcut here.
As for your question about isolation mode keyboard shortcuts, this just means that you can assign a custom keyboard shortcut to this command as well (Select > Isolate Layers).

  • Custom keyboard shortcuts and editing multiple layers in Flash CS4

    Hi, all -
CS3 -> CS4 transition newb here who's getting increasingly frustrated with the new motion tweens; however, for this project, I'm working in a 3D space and require using them, so I'm dealing with this bit by painful bit. I found the tip about Split Motion, but first question: how do you apply Split Motion across several layers at the same time? I have six different tweens, and in CS3, I used to be able to shift-click or click-drag across frames and apply a command to all of them (for example, hit F5 to add frames), but Split Motion is requiring me to right-click on each and every layer. This is really laborious, and I worry about future animations that might be more complex.
Similarly, I tend to add custom keyboard shortcuts to each of my Flash versions for commands I use frequently and don't want to right-click a menu for (such as "add motion tween") - however, I can't seem to find where to create a custom shortcut for either that, or Split Motion.
Any and all help would be appreciated as I muddle through this. Honestly, guys, I WANT to like the new version and there's so many added features, but it's hampering my workflow so bad I want to pummel it with sticks.

    Hey there,
I definitely hear you about Split Motion. There is an enhancement request for supporting multiple layers, and adding it as a keyboard shortcut. The first one is tricky, but the second one is not. I think there was hope that splitting motions wouldn't be necessary much (especially since you have to be careful when doing so when eases are involved), which is why the eventual need for more functionality related to split motion was realized a bit late in the schedule.
Now regarding other operations, such as you mentioned F5 to insert frames - that and other operations (inserting certain types of property keyframes, F6, and so on) work just fine.
You can apply a shortcut to Create Motion Tween in the custom keyboard shortcut dialog.  Not all operations in the program are available though (most context menu items aren't), which is why unfortunately why we don't see Split Motion yet.
It might be possible to avoid Split Motion though with another workflow. What are you using the feature for?  Just curious in case I can help.
    Jen.

  • Process Chains across multiple BW instances?

We're considering to implement a "CIF" (corporate information factory) approach for BW, using mutiple BW layers (staging, storage, analysis, across regions).  It seems to make sense from a performance management perspective.
However one concern is the administration / monitoring.
Can standard BW tools (e.g. process chains, admin cockpit) customized to be used across multiple BW instances (plus ideally OLTP reporting, which we also have)? Or would we end up having to log in to each system individually?  My gut / understanding tells me it is the latter one, but would appreciate any thoughts.
    Thanks!

    Hi Ingo,
Thanks for the information. I too have same scenario to work out.
Is there any possibility of automatic Source/server name conversion from system A to System B while copying all the Universes and Queries.
For Example: In BI we have an option to datasource server name change convention while transporting from one system to another system through out the landscape.
As you said in your reply, in life cycle manager, do we need to edit connection for each & every universe or any option for one and all universes.
Any documentation on this is appreciable...
    Please provide me information.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • How to select and move objects on multiple layers

Coming from Photoshop...  how do I move the contents of multiple layers across the page at one time?
In photoshop, i would click on one or more layesr in the Layers panel, and then use the move tool to move them all on the page. How do I do that in Fireworks? It seems to be too basic to be documented anywhere I have seen but the interaction is very different. I tried  ctrl-clicking on multiple layers and sometimes is seems to work. the objects are selected and I can move them. Other times, it just refused to select anything or it only select the object within one of the selected layers.
It sort of looks like selecting a layer selects objects in that layer unless the layer has a child layer. Is that true? Seems a strange limitation if it is.
I saw a comment somewhere that suggrested grouping and ungrouping which seems a little complicated for a basic editing action. Also, if it won't select the objects on all of the selected layers.
I'm guessing that I'm missing a basic concept in Fireworks here.

I found that It worked if I selected a layer, if there is a child layer
then shift>select and ctr+click other layers or objects. You could also
lock layers/objects you don't want to move and use Select>Select All, if
    you are moving most items.

  • How can I share a *.java source file across multiple projects in NetBeans?

I'm sure this simple and a pretty common operation but how can I share a *.java source file across multiple projects in NetBeans? Right now I keep cut, coping and pasting the same source file between multiple projects to re-use the same code. But I could I make this source file a library file or something like that so that I could access it from any project. I assume this would be a generic operation but I mentioned NetBeans for clarity. Thanks.

    Create a class library.
Write your code, compile it to .class files, put those class files in a .jar file and include the jar file in the classpath whenever you want to compile a project against it.

  • How to change blending mode on multiple layers at the same time

I'm using CS5. I have a document with about 70 layers. I would like to change the blending mode to "lighten" for each layer. Is there an easy way to do this?

Photoshop doesn't allow multiple layer editing. That's why the styles are grayed out. Only 1 layer at a time.
What version are you talking about?
CS5 definitely let’s one apply a Style to multiple Layers.
rfcommagere, I don’t know how to make it much clearer:
    • set the Blending Mode on one Layer
    • with that Layer selected create a Style with »Include Layer Blending Options« checked
    • select all other Layers that should have that Blending Mode
    • click the Style in the Styles Panel

  • How do you share Aperture file across multiple users on same Mac?

How do you share Aperture file across multiple users on same Mac? Seems this should be a preferences choice.

When you share your library between users, you may run into permission and ownership problems, if both users are editing the Aperture library and not only reading it. To avoid that, it helps to put the Aperture library onto a separate disk or a separate partion of your hard drive. For s separate partition or disk you can enable the "ignore ownership on this volume" flag. Then all users can access the library as owners of this library.
You might try to put the aperture library into a shared folder on your mac, but that has caused problems recently, i.e. when the library also contains video files.

  • Searching for links across multiple pdf files

We have thousands of pdf files that are being moved to a new website. Some of these pdf files have links within them (either as text or as a hyperlink). This number is unknown.
The issue is how to programmatically search across multiple pdf files (numbering in the thousands) looking for links using a regular expression or part of a path. This will have to be able to search behind the text and search for the link url.
We first need to identify the number of files with links and create a list of the files with links that need modifying. If the number is too great to modify manually, then we would need the ability to programmatically edit these links.
The pdf files are stored in a database. Also, the pdf files are different versions and some are password protected.
Is there an Adobe product that will perform this? If not, are there any 3rd party vendor products that will accomplish this?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have no solution, but a thought: the database factor may seem to be
a killer. But you could look for a solution designed to read PDF files
from a web site (by spidering or from a list), which would presumably
    load them.
Or could do a one off extraction of the files from the database into a
directory and use that for your process. Probably a very good idea,
since extracting all files from the database is likely to be costly
and hammer the server (but can be scheduled at a sensible pace), while
the search process will (if it is possible at all) doubtless need to
    be run countless times.
