Unwanted iPhone message about Push Notifications

A new problem has appeared om my iPhone (4s with iOS 8.1.2):
Many apps suddenly display a message telling me to connect to Itunes if I want to use push-notifications.
It is really annoying! How do I get rid of it without disabling Notifications altogether?

Hi and thanks for your reply!
I tried just that. The Connection with Itunes looked like it usually does and I couldn´t see any problem beeing handled in any way.
Unfortunately the message keeps coming so I have had to disable push on a number of apps.
Still confused..

  • Question about push notifications for apps affect on battery life?

I've noticed that after installing certain "Push Notification Enabled" apps that my iPhone's battery drains very quickly even when said apps aren't running. I've read that if an app makes extensive use of push notifications that it can drain the battery, but I haven't received any notifications from said apps. Does simply having a number of push enabled apps installed drain the battery cause faster than normal battery drain?
I don't really care about the push notifications for many push enabled apps, but I do like to have it enabled for certain ones. Would disabling notifications for all but the apps I use actually save battery life? I would think that since push messages are sent from the app owners server to Apple's push servers to the phone, that disabling notifications on the phone for an app or even deleting the app itself would not prevent the actual data from being pushed to the phone. In other words does disabling notifications (or deleting the app) actually prevent the data from being pushed to the iPhone or does it simply tell the iPhone to ignore the pushed data? The former would not increase battery life while the later would.

I've learned that it's not the number of apps that use push notification that drains the battery, but the number of apps that actively use it to send messages.
If push is turned on, the battery will drain slightly faster since the phone needs to maintain a constant 3G (or GSM) connection open, but no data is actually sent or received unless you receive a push notification.
In the case of push email, a push notification triggers the mail app to make an outbound IMAP4 connection. Depending on how often you receive email, this can decrease the battery life. If you receive lots of emails every few minutes, using 15 minute fetch will be more battery efficient. If you receive emails every few hours, push is more efficient.
For apps, it doesn't really matter since the apps can't initiate a network connection unless they are running. I'm not sure if app servers constantly sending push notifications when the notification for those apps is turned off drains the battery any faster or not. From what I've read when push notification are turned off for an app, Apple's push servers will tell that app's servers to not perform a push. In other words, Apple won't push app notifications to the phone for apps where notifications are disabled or the app isn't installed.

  • My Iphone wont send push notifications for the app Telegram, what do I do to fix it?

When my Iphone is locked the push notifications will work for every app but one. My telegram app wont push notifications when someone messages me, what setting can I change to fix it?

    Hey gingertodd0911,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
This article has information that may help you resolve the issue with no push notifications for that app on your iPhone 5s.
About Notifications on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Not getting notifications for a specific app
Push notifications require an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection. If you’re not getting notifications for a specific app, try these steps:
Go to Settings > Notifications to verify that the app supports notifications. If notifications do not appear in the Notification Center, make sure that the Notification Center setting for the app is enabled.
Make sure you’re signed in to your Apple ID.
If you’ve recently installed an app or restored a backup, open the app to start getting notifications.
    So long,
    -Jason

  • Quesiton about Push Notification Implementation in blackberry

    Hi,
If we want to implement Push notifcation message functionality in JDE, first of all we need to install Push notifcation JDK and then can we directly run HTTPPush demo from server as well as client?
I need some detailed information for this.
For push Notification we also need to implement server side application and one at client side. Can the client side application intercept or respond to push notifcation sent by the server ?
    Thanks and regards,
    Shubhangi

  • About Push Notification Rules in iOS

I’ve been using iOS for some years now and there’s a behavior regarding Push Notifications that I still don’t understand. When I launch an app for the first time, let’s say a game, and the system asks me “AppName would like to send you push notifications (Notifications may include alerts, sounds and icon BADGES. This can be configured in Settings).” I usually select DON’T ALLOW, mostly with games. Buttttt…. Apps can still generate Badges in their icons and list notifications in Notification Center. I must manually check the Notification Center settings to disable Badges for those Apps even when I’ve selected “Don’t allow” when asked. This behavior started happening to me since iPhone 4 with iOS4 and keeps being like that in my iPhone 5 with iOS7.
    Any explanation?

  • Question about push notification

I am currenty on a cap plan with limited amounts of Internet. How much internet approx does push notification use? So that at least I have an idea of how much I can use mobile me.
    Thanks

It depends on how much email you get, the size of messages, and how often you update contacts and calendar. In general push will use less data than fetch, because fetch establishes a connection every 15 minutes (or whatever you have it set to). Push only establishes a connection when there is an update to be synced. Unless you regularly get large attachments your email usage will be pretty small, and correspond to the total size of the emails you send and receive. Web browsing and use of data-intensive applications (like Google Maps) will be the vast majority of your data usage.

  • How do I get the pop up about push notifications to quit popping up?

WHen I open my apps., a pop up message pops up saying that I should connect to iTunes for push notifications. I touch OK, yet it continuously pops up and I can't use my app. Why do I do!

    Hi Edamame,
I don't think Numbers can do what you want it to. I devised a hack to do this which Ian explains in this tip:
Nested (or Cascading) Pop-Up Menus in Numbers 3
It is bulky and I don't think it would work well for you but there it is.

  • IPhone 5S Push Notification Not Working At Times PLEASE Help Anyone??

I just got this as a replacement phone for the previous iPhone 5S which I SHOULD have kept that one since I wasn't having problems much. First of all, Twitter push notifications weren't working then fixed it by going to reset settings..NOW when I'm in 3G or 4G LTE mode, at times I'm NOT getting push notificatoins whenever someone sends me messages!! it used to send me messages and push notifications for my previous iPhones!! How can I fix this problem?? Does it sound like a software bug problem? if I update to the latest iOS version, should it work?? This happened when I first used this phone. Do you think it SHOULDNT be the device?? I am very NERVOUS because I don't want to get stuck to this 2 yr contract my mom yelled at me saying i cant do anymore replacements because it will cost extra which it did!! (shipping fee and also 30 dollars) .

Did you tried the button next to the volume?, to turn on or off the touchpad, is very sensitive.
If this doesnt works you can try :
    - shut down the computer.
    - disconnect the electricity
    - remove the battery
    - press the start button 20 seconds
    after that,
    - connect the battery and the electricity and turn on the computer.
    I hope that works!

    Ana

  • Push Notifications to APNS Fail 50% of the Time

Sending a notification to an iOS device fails half the time with this error:
The Push Notification System returned an Internal Server Error
    Here is my setup:
    Free Trial version of Azure
Sandbox certificates uploaded to a Mobile Service/Notification Hub
App developed with PhoneGap and built using Adobe's PhoneGap Build service
    Using the com.microsoft.azure-mobile-services Cordova plugin
I am able to use either the DEBUG page on the Azure site, Visual Studio 2013 (Server Explorer -> Azure), or the ServiceBusExplorer open source program to send test JSON messages to Apple. It works, half the time, and the other half of the time I
    receive the error above.
    Steps to reproduce:
Open Visual Studio --> Server Explorer --> Azure. It points to my trial account.
Context-click on my Notification Hub a pick "Diagnose"
Under Device Registrations, I delete any registrations I've previously accumulated. There are now no device registrations.
Delete and re-install the test app on the iPhone (iOS 8)
Launch the test app. A new registration appears in the notification hub. The type is "Native." (I've also had problems with "Template.")
Go to the Test Send tab; Recipient: Broadcast; Message Type: Apple (Default)
I am using the default, sample notification (but I get similar outcomes with other JSON messages):
    {"aps":{"alert":"Notification Hub test notification"}}
Hit "Send"; It fails. Under "Message Result:," for my single registration I have this error message: "The Push Notification System returned an Internal Server Error"
Wait 90 seconds, hit Send again. The notification works, it appears on the phone, the message result is "The Notification was successfully sent to the Push Notification System"
Wait another 90 seconds, hit Send again. The notification fails
with the same Internal Server Error that it did the first time.
Wait another 90 seconds, hit Send again. It works perfectly just like it did on the second attempt.
Overall it is working about half the time. In the example above, it worked every-other time, but this is not always the case--it can succeed multiple times in a row or fail multiple times in a row. I'm not changing the JSON at all between
the above test messages. Even if I vary the JSON, I get the same outcome. I get similar outcomes regardless of whether I do the testing through Visual Studio (above), the Azure portal (the DEBUG tab), or through the ServiceBusExplorer program.
What is causing this? How do I troubleshoot this?

    Hi David,
I don't have an answer for you, but I wanted to chime in because I am having problems as well. I get the same "The Push Notification System returned an Internal Server Error" message trying to send a test push via either the Debug tab in the manage.windowsazure.com
    console or in Visual Studio.
I have been focused on troubleshooting this problem since yesterday (Saturday February 21) but I believe it has been happening quite a bit longer.
At one point I was able to get some notifications through after clearing all the registrations, but now it is failing again. I have had the same certificate since last April (2014) and it has worked fine, so I know the certificate setup is good.
    More data points:
using the SimplePush PHP script from
raywenderlich.com with the same certificate, the notifications go through immediately.
Normally we send notifications from our Mobile Service using the Javascript backend, and it gets a "success" response from the Notification Hub even when it fails, e.g.
    {"isSuccessful":true,"statusCode":201,"body":"","headers":{"transfer-encoding":"chunked","content-type":"application/xml; charset=utf-8","server":"Microsoft-HTTPAPI/2.0","date":"Sun,
    22 Feb 2015 05:05:20 GMT"}}
We have another notification hub with our production certificate, and it seems to be working better.

  • Why no email push notification?

I'm just wondering if there is a reason why the iPhone still lacks Push Notifications for email? Sure it pushes MobileMe, GMail etc, but only vibrates rather than telling me how many emails (like SMS/voicemail etc). Or, are there any apps that can do this? As unlocking the phone only to see it's junk mail, is a real pain!

This is because it makes no sense, and you don't understand what push notifications are for or how they work. Push notifications are to substitute for lack of background function for 3rd party apps. That way you get a notice "pushed" from a server for news alerts, IM messages, etc. even though the apps they're directed to are closed. Since Mail is always functioning, there is no reason for a separate push notification for mail it already received.
What you're really complaining about is that there is no display on the locked phone screen showing the email. SMS and VM show these, but they aren't "push notifications".
If you want to suggest this to Apple, post it on the iPhone Feedback page. This is a user-to-user only tech support forum. No one here can speak for Apples decisions or policies.

  • Push notification half works...?

I use MobileMe mail and have Push turned on in my iPhone 3GS, and I also read email on my MacBook Pro.
Problem: the little red bubble (push notification) on my Mail app icon on my iPhone shows that I have 3 new emails. Instead of reading these emails on the iPhone, I chose to read them on my Mac. Even though I now have no new emails, the little red bubble on my iPhone Mail app doesn't go away - until I open the Mail app, at which point it starts to sync. For a few seconds it actually shows these "read" emails as being unread, but then the status changes right before my eyes. Now when I exit the Mail app, the red bubble is cleared away. Do I really have to open the Mail app to get the notification to go away? Shouldn't it clear by itself within a few minutes?
A typical example of this, is that I'm sitting in my office reading my email. I then get up, grab my iPhone and head out. Half an hour later, I have occasion to check my emails on my iPhone. The push notification on the Mail app shows that I have several new emails. I open the mail app, only to realize that these are the same old emails that I read back in my office and that I don't have any new emails. And the status of these emails do change to read on their own - once I open the Mail app. This is REALLY annoying!
I have a similar problem with my ToDo app. The notification shows how many due items I currently have, but it only updates when I open the app. So if I have 3 new item due on a new day, those 3 items are only added to the notification once the app has been opened in the morning.
If this is the way it's actually supposed to work, I have to say I find it really lame and consider it a BUG on Apples part.
If this is not the way it's supposed to work, then can anyone give me a hint how to make the notification update on it's own?
    Thank you,
    -Christian

Not sure I can answer your question but if I read an email on my Exchange account the status on the phone reflects the number of unread emails in the inbox - it might take about 20 seconds or so, but I don't have to prompt the Mail App or open it.
I have just tried it on MobileMe by sending an email from another account. the '1 unread' message appears, I then open Mail on the Mac and read it, but you are correct - the symbol does not go away. This suggests its not an iPhone bug but a 'push' problem with MobileMe.

  • Thanko vibrating bracelet and push notifications

Friend of mine recently received a Thanko bluetooth bracelet that vibrates when a paired iPhone receives a phone call. She had a problem with it, however, and we've been e-mailing back and forth trying to figure out why it wasn't vibrating. Turns out she was expecting it to also vibrate when a new e-mail came in, which the bracelet isn't designed to do.
But that got me to thinking...why not? A bracelet that vibrated when a push notification came in would be tremendously useful. I can't think of how many times I've had my iPhone charging in the bedroom while I'm in the kitchen and when e-mail, sms messages, and yes, even phone calls, came in, I didn't hear them. People who carry their phones in a bag, like my wife, would also find such a thing useful.Such a device would also be useful for receiving news and e-bay auction alerts and video/facebook/skype notifications, too.
Does anyone know if the iPhone can send push notifications (i.e, vibrate or beep) to a bluetooth device?

    Hi InGen,
For troubleshooting software on your iPhone, I would suggest following the steps in the User Guide -
    iPhone User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
    See page 154, specifically -
If something isn’t working right, try restarting iPhone, forcing an app to quit, or resetting iPhone.
Restart iPhone. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Force an app to quit. From the Home screen, double-click the Home button and swipe upwards on the app screen.
If you can’t turn off iPhone or if the problem continues, you may need to reset iPhone. Do this only if you’re unable to restart your iPhone.
Reset iPhone. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Also,
    Reset iPhone settings
Reset iPhone settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset, then choose an option:
Reset All Settings: All your preferences and settings are reset.
Erase All Content and Settings: Your information, and settings are removed. iPhone cannot be used until it’s set up again.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Push Notifications Disabled (error 400)

I'm getting this error whenever I open my ESPN Streak for the Cash app. I've contacted ESPNs customer care and they are saying my error is an itunes/iphone issue.
    The problem:
I purchased a separate service within the app to send me additional push notifications. When asked to enter my itunes password to confirm i did. This was actually the second account I tried doing this from and it worked on the first. I've heard that you should have separate itunes accounts for each iphone. I dont know if that was the issue or not, but I did create another itunes account and deleted the app and redownloaded and purchased the push notification service. I still get the error 400, but at least it says my subscription is pending now whereas it didn't register before, but still no pushes. I've also noticed for some of my other apps that i dont receive push notifications anymore. Chess with friends, facebook, email. It only bothers me because i'm paying an additional subscription service for the espn app and i cant receive push notificaitons.
the actual message reads: Push notifications are disabled or failed to initialize. (error 400: contact customer care)
I am also prompted to enter my itunes password everytime i open the app. I've also received (error 100: contact customer care)before. Don't know if any of this could be useful info. But that's pretty much all i know.

I don't know where your other reply went re: turning off push notifications and that this appears to be a problem for 4s users.
Anyway, thanks for the reboot suggestion, tried that as well.  I will try to turn off push notifications and then turn back on to see if that makes a difference.
