Unwanted Login at startup

When I first setup my system I had it set to automatically log in at startup but somehow I've done something (have no idea what) and now every time I start up it shows what looks like the OS 9 desktop image and asks for my password which after inserting it everything starts up to my 10.4.11 desktop normally.
How do I get it to startup without the strange login procedure.
And yes I'm fairly new to Mac only had it for about 6 months.
Thank you in advance.

I feel so stupid, I thought I had done the select apple> accounts> password> login options thing but apparently I was asleep at the wheel.
Really did think I'd chose the automatically login option, DUUUUUUUUUUUUH!
The next question I would have if I had one would be, Why did I think this was going to be hard?
It's a Mac after all.
Thank you very much Limnos, have a wonderful day.

  • Login and Startup Issues

I've been having quite the challenge with my machine during startup. I'm running MBP late 2006 running 10.6.6, 2gb ram.
Problem is that during startup it takes about 10 min to go from initial grey screen with apple to login page. Sits with blue screen during the 10min I've tried a number of things - safe mode, reset pram, make sure the right hard disk selected in sys prefs, ran disk utility, ran repair disk of install disk, ran applejack. I cleaned up a lot of stuff but it still doesn't fix the main problem.
I tried AHT but when i insert the disc and hold d on restart the program starts to display something but then shuts down so I don't see what's on the screen. I ran SMART utility and everything is ok apparently. Other problems are constant fan operation, during sleep the computer won't wake up (power is on but no response and nothing on the screen) and i need to power down using power button.
When I boot in safe mode everything is fine. It boots up normally with very little lag from grey screen to login screen. Below is from my system console. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have the exact same problem.
my system hangs after solaris wants to start the "desktop login screen".
during the installation i had a problem that X or something couldnt start either. i had to use the console based installation (number 4.), with the standard interactive installation my system would hang after "discovering additional network devices".
i can use the failsafe option. i guess its something with X and my network card?

  • Kde Freezes 10-15sec's Between Login and Startup Sound

I have noticed with pulseaudia and alsa configured i have like a pause after logging in and hearing the startup sound. Its abou 15 seconds. Durring that time i can not launch any programs only move my cursor throughout the desktop.
    I have found this:
    http://krisko210.blogspot.com/2012/02/k … login.html
and the Kmixd service when disabled solves the problem? What is this service is it ok for it to be disabled? if anyone else is having this issue have you found a workaround?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Here's a similar thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=132765
Edit: I should add that moving pulseaudio.desktop to a different location fixed the problem for me, as suggested in that thread. Disabling kmixd will probably break your mixer.

  • Cannot login at startup

I have bought a reconditioned Mac Book Pro from Apple. It is running 10.7. At the login window I am asked for a password. I think this was set by the previous owner but I don't know what it is. is there a way around this? thanks

Just try doing this to get you started as it should be. You need to have an Internet connection, preferably use Ethernet for speed.
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
When the computer restarts into Lion it will start in the Setup Assistant where you start from scratch as if using a computer new out of the box.

  • No users login on startup screen

On startup I only get the grey (weave) background. As the mini starts up it seems to go through a series of screen flashes/switches which it never use to.
Other problems are no sound. No devices shown in sound output. mute is checked off and I cannot change that.
ITunes doesn't play any music in the library or from the radio. I just have the pause button. it doesn't change to the play button at all.
The display resets to one that does not fit with my TV screen. When I select the correct one, it changes back on every reboot.
Prior to these problems I downloaded ilivid to try to watch an NFL game online for free. Since then I have had problems.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Xmarks asks for login every startup? + welcome page errors

Everytime I startup Firefox 5, Xmarks asks for my login info and sometimes still doesn't login. I have it checked to remember my info, but it still asks. A screen flashes by really quickly saying to whitelist Xmarks.com in Noscript, which I've done. Any other suggestions?
Also, every startup, Firefox 5 does a long compatibility check, then displays the same "welcome to firefox 5" screen, along with the update pages of like 4 of my add-ons.
I've done plugin updates and virus scans. Can I receive any assistance on these issues?

Even though I had a very similar Problem, I had it with ModemManager in connection with NetworkManager on Debian. I found this thread (as so often you find good answers in the arch forums that help for many other distributions ) but the Problem presented differently (and much much more recent - this weekend in fact)
The Pin Dialog would pop up every restart of NetworkManager, saving or applying the Pin would be rejected with an error that the system policy forbids "org.freedesktop.ModemManager1.Device.Control" and nothing else than aborting ended the dialog. Controlling WLAN was not possible anymore either.
I then found out that though NetworkManager could not find a systemd-session for the current user (by stracing NetworkManager - not very accurate). I guess there was a problem running logind properly from X or something like that, since the system was running SysV-Init with logind. Switching to systemd as a startup manager helped but I didn't find out what broke in the first place.
I hope this helps people finding this thread somehow.

  • Can't login on startup... HELP!

For the past half year now I've been having problems with my Mac lagging with the rainbow wheel showing up (but not really my main issue right now.) My big problem now is that i just pressed "install updates" and agreed to restart my Mac. As soon as it turns on again and i try to log in, the whole screen turns white-grey then just flashes back to the login screen. Password isn't wrong nor can i just go in as a guest bc it does the same thing... I noticed some people said they had this trouble with some kind of authenticity software..? But i don't have that so it's got to be something else...
Help please! (i didn't even get to back up anything )

What model Mac (This is the Mac pro desktop forum) and what OSX version?
    How much memory?
How much free disk space on startup drive?
    Try booting in Safe Mode
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
Try either booting to Recovery (Lion and later)
OS X: About OS X Recovery
Ot with an install disk and repair the startup drive.
Also, when in Disk Utility see if bu the S.M.A.R.T. entry there is anything but Verified listed.

  • When I login at startup a random folder opens

Ok, this is weird. First of all this is my first Mac and I'm having a really difficult time figuring something out. Before I do a shutdown I will close every finder window and program. The next time I turn my computer on and login I will be greeted with a random open finder window. Sometimes it's my music folder, sometimes it's a random Library folder and sometimes it's work sensative docs. During shutdown/restart I uncheck the box that asks if I want the windows to resume when I turn it back on, but that doesnt really matter since I was never using those random finder windows to begin with. Am I just not understanding something? Why does it do this 9/10 times I start my computer?

Click here and follow the instructions, or if they don't cover the type of adware on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Turning off Password Login at Startup???

ok so i used to live with my roommate now i am moved out and on my own, i want to turn off my passworded login like i used to have before i moved in for college, it used to just login no problem, all i did was go to System Preferences>Security and turned on "Disable Automatic Login"....well now i Un-checked it so that it will login automatically when i turn the computer on, but it still asks for my password and its really annoying, anyone know how to turn this on for sure?

    Hi Daniel,
    Try the following:
    1. Fire up System Preferences.
    2. Select Accounts.
    3. Click on the Lock at the bottom left and enter your password.
    4. Click on Login Options just above the Lock
    5. On the right ensure that Automatically Log in as: is ticked and select the account you want from the drop down menu.
That should be it. All okay now?

  • How do I disable password login at startup??

Since installing Yosemite 10.10.1, every time I turn on my MacBook Pro I have to Select User and then login with my password. I don't want this, since I'm the only user and it wastes time. This didn't used to happen before installing Yosemite. I can't find the button in Security and Privacy that turns this off! Any help? Thanks!

Are we on the same page? System preferences>users & groups. Click on login items. Click on lock in lower left and enter your system password.
You said something about logging in. If you are not the system administrator, you cannot change anything.

I'm using Lion on a new Macbook Pro. Just recently, when I shut my computer down at night and start it up in the morning, the login screen appears, and I have to sign in. Up until a few days ago, I was automatically logged in. I checked my user system preferences, and I do have automatic login enab

  • How to disable Itunes music stores auto account login on startup

Since I upgraded iTunes I've had a account log in screen asking me to sign in with my iTunes Store ID and password every-time I launch iTunes. Is there anyway to disable it? My wake-up- software stopped to work and im late to work everyday after this "upgrade".
Yes there is, and Apple themselves tells you how.
( ps. Apple, - please let it be a choice the next time, in preference.. )
    Apples - support answer.
    - I have some steps for you to try that should take care of this issue. Please try these steps below:
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Open your iTunes folder (usually found in the Music folder in your Home folder).
    3. Double click the iTunes Music folder.
    4. Inside you should find a folder called Downloads.
    5. In this folder you will see a file "list.plist". Drag this file to your desktop.
    6. Restart iTunes and hopefully iTunes will not ask for your password.
Please let me know if this works or not. Thank you for being an iTunes Store customer, and have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    Jessica

      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

John Hammer1 is partially right. There are three locations for startup items
    </System/Library/StartupItems>
    </Library/StartupItems>
    <~/Library/StartupItems>
(In theory, the first should be reserved exclusively for items bundled with Mac OS X.)
However, startup items have been deprecated since Tiger. Apple advises that only software which requires Panther compatibility should use them. The correct mechanism in Tiger and later is launchd. Therefore, if you don't find anything in the StartupItems folders, what you need to look for is a .plist file corresponding to your programme, which could be in
    <~/Library/LaunchAgents>
    </Library/LaunchAgents>
    </Library/LaunchDaemons>
    </System/Library/LaunchDaemons>
    </System/Library/LaunchAgents>
(See "Creating Launch Daemons and Agents" in "Daemons and Services Programming Guide" in Apple's Developer library.)

  • How do you remove login/system startup daemons?  What file can I edit?

I've upgraded to Leopard and removed Missing Sync application. But there's a daemon that launches when I start up or login.

    Hi, justdaveillustrated.
    Two things you can try:
First, if the matte is present while you're editing, you can try: Layer > Matting (all the way at the bottom) > Remove White Matte.
Second, if that doesn't work, you can give Blend If a shot:
Open your Layer Styles: Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options
At the bottom, you'll see the Blend If section. With your Alt/Option key held down, drag the left side of the Highlight slider (right slider) to the left. This will smoothly remove the white matte of that layer.
