Unwanted messages and contacts

Ok, so I recently updated skype, etc and have merged it with my msn account. I also use Mac OSX, if it makes any difference.
The past few days, when I sign into Skype, I get messages from a yahoo account and an msn account:

They've also managed to add themselves to my contact list, despite me not accepting them as contacts, and deleting them every single time. The option to block these contacts is also unavailable, so I am unable to block or report these accounts, excepting by mentioning them in here.
I have EVERYTHING set to contacts only, and my status is not broadcasted online, so by my reckoning, I shouldn't be receiving anything but messages from contacts. If anyone can suggest a solution to this very annoying problem, I'd be very greatful. Else, I'm going to have to go back to Mac Messenger for now, or just give up entirely on messaging.

I think most of this Scam & Spam is directly from Skype, they mabe get money for it. Something like ADs messages from those spammers, or i dont know. Its obvious they wont do anything against them so they must work together.
Moderator Note: The accusation, above, is unfounded and not true. As a VoIP provider, Skype has nothing to gain from participating in such schemes.
by the way, does the Block & "report for abuse" checkbox do anything? Why is the need to send extra an EMAIL to [email protected]? I dont get it, what is the checkbox for then? Why make it so complicated for ppl to deal with skype scam... this program is so bad, i still dont understand why this crap ever became so popular.

Why do we have separate apps for phone, messages, and contacts?

I'm trying to reduce the number of apps that I need to run, and this one just boggles my mind.

The messages is to tightly coupled to the phone, that it doesn't make any sense for them to be separate.
The contacts app is nothing more then looking at the contacts from the phone app.
What's the story here?
Does it have something to do with the contacts also being part of email app?

Phone contacts should have phone#, email contacts should have email addresses.
If you want a contact to have both phone# and email address, then the two apps (phone/email) should be combined.

The forums would be full of people complaining that you had to go through an additional step ( opening the phone app) to get to contacts. I use the contacts app from the home screen far more often then I use it in relation to calling someone.
I like the way it is far more than the way you propose.

Lost photos, messages and contacts when syncing!

Hi, I used my iphone 5 for about a week and had a bunch of photos on it. I then went to sync and it erased all my new photos, messages, and contacts and replaced with my old ones from my iphone 3. How do I get them back?

You did more than sync the iPhone since photos/videos in the Camera Roll and Messages are not included with the iTunes sync process.
The first time you connect a new iPhone to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or set up the new iPhone as a new iPhone. The former option replaces the data on the new iPhone that is included with the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device followed by a sync matching the sync settings for the other iPhone or iOS device which is included with the backup. This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone, not days or weeks later.
The latter option doesn't transfer a backup for another iPhone or iOS device allowing you to make the selections that you want to sync under the various tabs for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. The settings, Camera Roll, and Messages are not touched.
If you didn't import the photos from the Camera Roll prior to choosing to transfer the backup for your iPhone 3G or 3GS to the new iPhone, the photos, messages, and contacts manually entered on the iPhone over the last week or so are gone - replaced with the backup for your iPhone 3G or 3GS.

Ovi Suite Syncing Messages and Contacts

I have Ovi Suite installed on my desktop and laptop and both computers are not syncing contacts and messages, just keeps saying syncing messages do not disconnect, I've turned off the phone and back on again and sometimes that fixes the problem, turned off and on bluetooth and sometimes would fix the problem also but now whatever I do does not work. Also tried connecting via USB cable. I have also tried repairing, deleting the device on the phone and even gone back to Nokia PC Suite 7 and still nothing, can someone help me out here please?

Well for anyones information. Syncing with ovi suite.
I have successfully got ovi suite working.
For those with problems this is what I did. I have vista.
1. I uninstalled all programs from nokia.( ovi suite using the online uninstaller. Pc suite using the installed uninstall program.
then i ran pc suite cleaner.
2. using search for nokia then using advanced search for all nokia folders remaining (important to use advanced search or you will miss some of the folders and files. Then deleted them. Some you may have to change the user permissions to delete them. It is important to delete these as they hold data and i think might be one of the conflicts stopping sync working.
3. Delete any remaining files except bookmarks pics etc.
now there should be nothing on the pc.
Then download and run ccleaner. Cleaner and registry.
Reboot pc
Then download ovi suite.
A wizard might pop up but if not start ovi suite and connect your phone. I turned bluetooth off and used usb.
The phone will download settings. You can select pc suite on the sync settings in the phone. not ovi.com.
the program is good and worth the trouble. It saves your messages and contacts as well as syncing contacts and calendar with your required program, also bookmarks can be saved with firefox and explorer in your phone folder in favourites. It creates the folder. To transfer bookmarks from pc to phone ensure they are in this folder.
This took me a lot of reboots and time with a few calls to nokia and i am still waiting for their callback!!!
It also works fine on my xp computer too.

IPhone in lost mode, if a person guesses the 4 digit passcode can they see/send messages and contacts etc?

I have lost my iPhone. Someone has found it. I got an email message when they turned it on and called it immediately. Unfortunately they turned it off, after the first call and now it goes straight to answerphone. It has been in lost mode for three days. My question is simple, if the person guesses the four digit passcode, can they send/see text messages and emails, can they see contacts etc. Do they need my apple id and password to access and use the phone or simply the four digit code?

Yes, i appreciate that. I do hope they don't, however the passcode is VERY simple... If they guess or if it was actually taken by someone that knows me or saw me enter the code, then can they use the phone normally once it's entered, will i get an email or will the phone come out of lostmode on the app? Sorry for the repeated question. I will shortly hit the 'this solved my question' button

Phone, Messaging and Contacts

I often receive text messages and wish to return a phone call instead of a message. I have not found a way to do this easily with iPhone. I also cannot start a Contact entry with details from a received Text message or Phone Call.
Are there ways to do this without having to manually re-enter phone numbers?

Just look at the top of the text you received and you'll see a button labeled "Call". There's also a button to see "Contact Info" if that person is in your contacts, but I don't know if that button is there nor what it shows if the person is not already in your contacts. Perhaps it is an "Add to Contacts" button in that case (this goes to part of your second question).
As for creating a contact from a phone call, just go to "Recents" and tap the blue triangle next to the call. You'll see several buttons, including one labeled "Create New Contact" and one labeled "Add to Existing Contact" for when it's a number you don't already have for a contact you do already have.

Is it possible to retrieve text-messages and contacts if you dont have backup files?

I recently updated my Iphone 4 to iOS 7 and i did the mistake of not backing the files up, so i lost all of my contacts, messages photos etc. So i was wondering if it`s possible to retrieve those files without having the backup files available?
Please answer ASAP.

Recent problem with 2 separate phones getting same messages and contact info

I have an iphone 4s/ my father also has a 4s. in the past few days, suddently his contact list and my contact list have merged. Today, I deleted my contacts off his phone, but it also deleted my contacts off my phone. FURTHER, any texts sent to either one of us, also automatically come to BoTH of us, including-- IF he sends to me, he sends to both me and himself (automatically/he is NOT copying himself on this). This has been a sudden/ recent occurance. It is like each phone is a clone of one another, though we do NOT get each other's phone calls. Problem seems to be only in the contact list and messaging systems.

imaginebeth, not all ppl have set it up the iMessage feature they just turn off the option on their apple devices, i had few friends that i know they have iPhone iPad , iPod and they just do not use iMessage because they said are using the same apple ID in all their devices and the imessages drop in they message app, i know that happend but just some do not like use that feature, if u send a text to one of ur contacts that has iPhone and the message go in green color that is because they are not using iMessage feature or some are out range from cellphone towers signal sometimes happend with few of my contacts.

Vista crashed, did factory reset, downloaded and installed Thunderbird, can I get messages and contacts from windows backup

Did a factory reset of Windows Vista. Had Thunderbird before, downloaded and installed after reset. I have a windows backup on external drive that was made about a week before the crash. Would the old contacts and messages be on this windows backup? If so, how to retrieve?

What you need is your Thunderbird profile folder. Check whether that's in your backup.

Messaging and Contacts Display Issue

Hello,
Having a problem where contacts are appearing as numbers instead of the contact name in the messages page. I have contact and it still says, "(xxx) xxx-xxxx."
I've deleted the messages, deleted and added the contact, removed the 1 before the area code from the number, and none of this has worked. This is a non jailbroken phone. Anyone else had this problem with a solution? Thanks!

I have the same issue.
I was abroad and made some calls to a contact.. Now that I am back in my country I have the problem that the number is not recognized as my contact number.
Does any one knows what is happening??

PC suit does not displays messages and contacts

I have Nokia N73 and I have installed Nokia PC suite which displays my images and videos but not my contacts and messages. When I open my contacts in PC suit it displays error that Refreshing contact list fail and during synchronizing PC suite gives warning that your mobile phone is not responded. Please tell me possible suggestions to solve this issue.

Not sure if you've still got the problem, but try the Nokia Suite Cleaner and check the Owner permissions on the user profile in C:\Users or C:\Documents and Settings and its subdirectories.

Messages and contact list on Revolution problem

When I got to send a message or picture message I click add contacts and my whole phone book doesn't come up only phone numbers without my email addresses and I need that because I send pics to many email addresses. Any help please
