Unwanted noise when printing in laser jet 1018

I've been using laser jet 1018 for many years and all of a sudden it starts screech when printing. What can I do to stop this?
If there is nothing to do but buying a new printer which other printer uses the same same toner cartridge?

Hello magistern,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
The noise that you are experiencing could be cause by many different scenarios. The basis troubleshooting would include making sure the printer power cable is connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip.  Taking a light weight lubricating oil and applying very little to the gears.
I realize that you have had this printer for some time. If you would like to see about some out of warranty options, I suggest  calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. • HP Laser Jet 1018 that will not print.

I have a HP Laser Jet 1018 printer that stopped printing. Message references spooling and no printer connected.

    Hi @ken60487,
I see that you are having issues printing. You are getting a spool and a not connected error. I can help you out today.
What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
The Print Spooler is part of the Operating System, if it isn't running you will not be able to install a printer, see the printer.
Run all the Windows updates on the computer.
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
Clear the Printer Spooler Files and try to Enable the Spooler Service.
    1. Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type Services.msc .
    2. Double-click Printer Spooler in the Services list.
    3. Click on the Stop button and click OK. (yours is probably already stopped)
    4. Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type"%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers, then delete all files in this folder.
    5. Go back to services by holding down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type Services.msc again.
    6. Double-click Printer Spooler in the Services list.
    7. Click on the Start button. In the Start up Type list, make sure that Automatic is selected and click OK.
    Try printing again.
If the issue persists, try the following steps:
Try running the Microsoft Fix It Tool to see if it will fix the print spooler.
Diagnose and repair Windows File and Folder Problems automatically.
You can also try running the How To Use SFC /Scannow to Repair Protected Windows Operating System Files.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Unwanted noise when adjusting screen brightness

Are there any other new iMac (iSight) owners out there experiencing unwanted noise when adjusting their screen brightness to any setting other than maximum? Dimming my screen causes a loud buzzing sound similar to feedback you get with bad grounding.

    Dyummy,
Thanks for posting this link. I am as puzzled as some of those posters are, since this noise only happens under Vista and not in OSX. In my case it also happens in the lower right side of the screen and only when I lower the screen brightness in Vista five or six notches using the F1/F2. If I lower the brightness using the nVidia control panel in Vista there is no sound either. The only problem is that the nVidia control panel is not very good and quite limited at lowering the screen's brightness.
I am still inclined to believe this is a driver/software issue with the nVidia 256MB card or the display. If your screen replacement helps, let us know.
    Thanks,
    JLC

  • Loud noise when printing

print quality good but loud noise when printing. do printers need "oiling"?

    Hello @mikeed,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that your 7500A is being rather noisy.
    I would like to help.
Unfortunately, there is not way to 'grease up' the printers gears.
If the noise goes away when the product is on, and disconnected from the computer, there might be a connectivity problem. Use the following steps to isolate a connectivity issue with the computer.
    Shut down the computer.
    Turn off the product.
Disconnect the USB cable from the product.
    Wait 30 seconds.
    Turn on the product.
    Print a self test report
    Turn off the product.
Connect the product to a USB port on the computer.
    Turn on the computer.
After the computer finishes booting up, turn on the product.
If you still hear the sound, connect the product to a different USB port on the computer. Check the functionality of the product.
If you still hear the sound, connect the product to a new computer.
Check the functionality of the product.
If the sound continues and the product functions normally, the sound is a normal sound.
When the product prints, the rollers, gears, paper feed, and carriage makes noise.
When you print in the Fast or Draft modes, the product makes more noise than when you print in the Best or Normal modes.
    Check the following:
If the product did not print successfully, check for a paper jam.
Check that the product supports the paper you loaded.
Make sure the paper is loaded correctly, the trays are extended, and the paper guides are adjusted properly.
You can also try the following.
Remove and reinsert the cartridges to make sure that they are correctly installed in the unit.
    Perform a hard reset.
While teh printer is powered on, unplug the printers power cord.
    Wait at least 30 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the printer.

  • Faint blue speckles and lines appear all over printed documents, Laser Jet CP3525dn

    Dear Toner Problem Community,
Every time I print, faint blue speckles appear all over my document.  When I print in mass, blue lines also begin to appear at around page 34, and double blue lines begin to appear around page 62.  I performed "Process Cleaning" three times with no difference.  Someone suggested vacuuming out excess toner, but I pulled out the cartridge and don't see any excess toner.  Please help.  Thank you!

    Hi PrepressPro...
Many thanks for your earlier inputs, but not quite sure where you got the idea that i want someone or anyone to play detective... i've understood the Overprint problem... and moved on. If anything, maybe i was just musing and wondering if any particular action turns on "Overprint Fill"...
Or maybe, i was referring to the second question which has not been resolved yet... Quoting it below for easy reference:
    ++++
    The other issue...
Same black background(s)... placed  Photoshop file/s with a transparent background... Prints fine at the  printers (various machines and media) ... But on the laserprinter an HP  Color Laser Jet CP1510 series, there's a dark patch around the image  (the actual file area).
    ++++
To elaborate, the pix above are product shots which have been cut out and placed on a transparent background... The PS file is then placed in AI CS4 with the object option selected to maintain transparency. The transparent area is printing darker on the printer above. But is fine when sent to commerciqal printers...
Attached is a scan of the problem...

  • HP-Print-58-Laser Jet 1102

I want to be able to print wirelessly direct from my laptop to the printer. The instructions say to have a steady blue light showing but I can only get a flashing blue light.
The lap top can see the printer as an "HP Laser Jet Professional P 1102w Desktop PC"  when I try to add a device, but I just get the message "That didn't work".
I have typed in the IP address into the browser window but nothing happens.
    I have windows 8.1.

Try to run the print and scan doctor and check the results.

  • Photosmart C8180 Squeaky noises when Printing

I have a Photosmart C8180 all-in-one printer.  When I hit print and the wheels or mechanics of the printer start to move, I get horrible squeaky noises.  It's not from the paper tray or photo tray but somewhere else.  It happens a lot during the process of the printing before printing actually takes place and once it's done.  The noises are getting worse.  Any suggestions on how to get rid of this noise?  I am worried my printer will break down if not taken care of soon.  I print a lot of photos but these noises also happens when printing documents.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi - Assuming you're in the US, you can call 866-234-1377 for service related options.  As for parts for the printer, you can go here to find the parts that are avaialble for the C8180.  I don't have any idea which part(s) would need to be replaced.  If you're interested in going that route, you might start a new post with that question specifically and see if another user on the forum might have some experience with parts replacement on the C8180.
    Hope that helps.

  • Unwanted noise when using effect?

So I am VERY new to Logic, and I finally figured out how to record audio. I am trying to use the effects in the library, but they don't do anything except add unwanted noise to my recording.
Also, how can I turn off an effect after I have selected it in the library? (Sorry, very new to logic)

Well, the trouble with effects is that it´s so easy to use add them just because you have them available. A chain of effects will probably do a lot of things that you may not want it to do.
Better to click the squares under Insert a Channel strip and chose the effect you really want or need...
Sorry if this contribution opens up a can of worms; the Instruments and Effects manual is really good. And searchable.

  • Fuzziness when printing with laser

When printing a document to a Konica Minolta Magicolor 5670EN using Pages 5.2 (1860) (and Pages 09 with a previous MacPro using Leopard) the output is fuzzy, as if anti-aliasing is turned on. If I save the document as a pdf file, then print it, the result is pin-sharp output. Am I missing a simple 'turn off anti-aliasing' somewhere in Pages?
    RSS157

There is no anti-aliasing configuration in either Pages version.
Direct application printing may cause translation of native Pages document markup through the PCL6 page description language, rather than the Postscript Level 3 engine that would be invoked when printing from PDF.
Konica Minolta has indicated that the Print dialog for some applications in OS X 10.9 may have advanced printing options inaccessible until compatibility drivers are provided. Many of these advanced options can however be set through the Printer Features submenu. There is a link to a PDF entitled, printer driver workaround documentation, that details this functionality. This page also suggests that OS X 10.9 and Windows 8.1 drivers are not yet available.
KM released four new v1.3.1 Postscript drivers explicitly for OS X 10.9 in March. I would apply these and revisit your print quality issues.
In addition to potential printer settings/driver issues, Pages v5.2 is a relatively immature and buggy release of Pages. It is entirely possible that it can be the source, or collaborator in your print fuzziness. Do you normally have the printer setup to do Pantone color match?
I see no update or compatibility page for the PageScope administrative applications for this printer.

  • LaserJet CP1025NW Color Printer - Weird cranking noise when printing or rotating carousel

Just out the package today, the first time turning on the printer, during all print jobs and when rotating the cartridges, the carousel is making a weird cranking noise coming from the left side of the printer. I understand that this printer does make the winding/power-up sound, but this cranking noise is in addition to the normal sound.
I find this odd because I use the exact same printer at work and it does not make this noise and I am afraid that it is a faulty mechanism within the printer.
I have checked to make sure that I removed all packaging from inside the printer and removed all cartridges and replaced them. I would think that all pieces that need to be removed would be bright orange. Also, the print jobs are not affected by the cranking noise.
Does anyone else have this problem?

    Hi saidthegirl
I understand the printer is noisy but will print.
I have included the document for setting up the printer, to take a look at where all the packing material is located.
