Unwanted page breaks in text in IndesignCC doc

Please help. I have a simple 1 column grid document where the text breaks where-ever it likes. Not even in obvious places. There are footnotes, but it jumps to the next page leaving a lot of the column empty even where there aren't footnotes. I have Balance Coulmns turned off in Text Frame Options. I'm on deadline and can't solve it!! Can anyone help?

Thank you. Unchecking the Keep lines together seemed to have worked in almost all place. But not all. I have tried the Recompose Stories but that didn't do anything. Reducing the space between text and footnotes has solved the issue on other pages.

HP 5550 Deskjet - Unwanted page breaks in documents

While printing a document, i get unwanted page breaks. It will print plain text ok but seems to have problems with Word 2007 documents. After several pages (the page amount varies), it will print 1/2 a page or so and then formfeed to the end page & continue the document on a new sheet of paper. It will keep placing pagebreaks in the middle of page through the rest of the document. The page breaks do not exist in the document. Wish that I were able to explain it better, this is the best I can come up with.

No Error Messages or LED Lights

When you click to print, in the pane that pops up if you pick "layout" does it show anything out of the ordinary?

How can I control unwanted page breaks in exported .pdf files?

I am building a form that, for a variety of reasons, must be available offline. Unfortunately, the .pdf export is introducing a page break on the 3rd page that leaves 80% of the page empty. The next element after the page break is a small text field which would easily fit on the preceding page. I have _not_ put any page breaks into this document, so the editor is following its default behavior regarding page breaks. Is there any way to tell the editor not to break at a given spot?
Also, in terms of a more general feature request, it would be very nice if there was a more intelligent method of handling pagination. I understand why (in a separate spot on the same form) the editor is pushing a large form element to the next page (since it won't fit on the previous one), but I would much rather have the option of splitting a large rating scale instrument so that the first half fills one page and the final half (with headings repeated) begins the second page. All of this empty space just looks tacky, and I can't imagine anyone actually wanting the default behavior if it would leave more than a few lines of empty space at the bottom of a page.

Well, I downloaded the trial of Acrobat XI to see if I could fix this, and lo and behold it allowed me to define the .pdf page breaks exactly as I desired! The "secret" was to switch to page view from the view menu. It also works in the online version of FormsCentral.

Unwanted page breaks in table

Using FM8. I have a table of several rows starting on page x. after the first row, the next row jumps to the page x+1. It's there alone because the 3d row jumps to the page x+2. None of these rows contain enough text to cause a page break, and I'm left with huge blank portions on my pages. I can't discern how this table is different from the dozens of tables already in this document. is there a setting somewhere that allows table rows to stay together? Something is causing the individual rows to go the the next page. The paragraph designer does not show keep-with-next, or any other setting that would cause this. Thanks.

If you highlight a table row (i.e. select all the cells from left to right) then look in the menu Table > Row Format, you'll see the settings for that specific row as far as keep with next / keep with previous.
There's also a setting for the table itself that determines how many rows have to be kept together when the table breaks across pages -- look at teh Table Designer, in the "Basic" tab, bottom left corner, Orphan rows.
There can be strange row breaks in tables at times if FM gets conflicting instructions for the keep with next / previous and the Orphan rows settings.

Allow page breaks and text overflow indicator

I have set up a sub form to allow page breaks within content which works but then the content that continues on the next page has the text overflow indicator showing and the text field does not expand which is what I want it to do. What do I need to do to get it to continue flowing?

I do not understand why this should be so difficult. What I am doing is just opening a blank form and I can either insert a text field or a subform. I then go to check allow page breaks within content and it is greyed out on a text field. I also can create the subform and it allows me to set it to flowed and allow page breaks but it then has a indicator that displays (Although the object is allowed to break, deselecting allow page breaks within content object of the parent object restrict this object from breaking between pages). The only thing that makes sense is the parent is the blank page form. I have searched all over the place and I cannot see anyplace to set the form page to allow page breaks. The only thing that is on the form is either a check box or a subform and thats it. It keeps having a problem with a parent object. The only 2 objects I see are the blank page and then the text field I add. Nothing seems obvious to fix this. This software does not appear to be very user friendly.

I know this has been asked a million times before but my situation is different. On apple help it says place the insertion point where you want the break to happen. How do i move the insertion point? I can only move it by typing and then it only works for the first page. No it does not have to be only body test, but you are trying to put the page break into a text box.
Touch the area outside the text box, that is the body of the document and you can insert a page break there.
I have page breaks and text boxes no problem in my docs, it is just a case of knowing what you are doing.
Text boxes sit on top of the body of the document, the body text needs to run under the document, no need to have text in it, it just needs to be there.
I can't help any more, sorry.

Forced page break: space

When I insert a forced page break, the text moves to the next page but there's roughly a 1-M space before it -- in the middle of a sentence.
If I force the text back to occupy the unwanted space, the space simply moves to the end of the text on the preceding page.
I am guessing there's a setting that's instructing the text to observe X amt. of white space after a forced page break? If yes, where would that live?
Nothing in Help, nothing searching forums...

My Microsoft Word inserts a page break when I hit return

If I press delete to remove the page break, it brings the sentence back into the previous paragraph. If I hit return again to make the sentence into a new paragraph, as it is supposed to be, the computer/program inserts a page break, vaulting me onto the next page and leaving the previous half-page (or a bit more) blank.
Ideas? I have restarted.

Try the following:
Select the paragraph following the unwanted page break.
On the Format menu, click Paragraph, and then click the Line and Page Breaks tab.
Clear the Keep lines together, Keep with next, and Page break before check boxes.

When exporting to epub, only about 1/3 of my chapters are getting the page breaks. Each chapter is in its own doc, and I've tried splitting it apart by doc. and by H1, with no luck. HELP

All my paragraph styles seem to jive, and no matter what I do, most of my chapters seem to miss their page breaks. I've heard of others having this issue with older versions of Indesign, but I'm on CC2014, and I thought that should be fixed by now. I really don't want to have to learn HTML code and go break open the epub doc to fix it manually, because that doesn't always work across all devices either. I know others have to of run into this problem before. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure the paragraph style applied to the chapter title (if that's the first line of each chapter) is tagged. Open the paragraph style and go to Export Tagging and check Split Document (epub only). Then when you export (assuming you are using reflowable) under General>Split Document check Based on Paragraph Style Export Tags. Try it and let us know if this helps.

Text Field repeating at Page Break in Interactive Adobe form in Webdynpro Java

I have requirement in which Text field containing 'Rich Text' data has a huge data coming at runtime. It is displaying correctly without any scrollbars on a single page .Now the problem is when data exceeds to next page ,text field repeats it with first line and also adds scrollbar to text field.

Yes I have checked all the subforms Flowed. Text field is working good in Preview Pdf Option of NWDS.
But when I generate the pdf on server, when TextField flows to next page, on next page it repeats from first line.

Page Break symbol in Text print

When I print a report to text it prints a page break symbol. Is there anyway to get rid of that? The report was created in Crystal Reports XI Release 2.

Did you type the text in or did you Copy and Paste? A page break or non-printable character should not be there if you are typing it in on your own.
I've only run into this when copying and pasting.

Detecting Page Break before/after text

Is there a way to detect if there is a page break before or after a block of text through scripting?

This will return a regular single character "\r" for a hard return at the end, but any of ID's breaks will be indicated by one of the values:
SpecialCharacters.COLUMN_BREAK
SpecialCharacters.EVEN_PAGE_BREAK
SpecialCharacters.FRAME_BREAK
SpecialCharacters.ODD_PAGE_BREAK
SpecialCharacters.PAGE_BREAK
(as you can see there is more than one 'break' character).
To check a page break before the current paragraph, you will have get a pointer the paragraph before the current one and do this same check on that.
Check also the constant
yourSelection.startParagraph
which can be
StartParagraph.NEXT_COLUMN
StartParagraph.NEXT_EVEN_PAGE
StartParagraph.NEXT_FRAME
StartParagraph.NEXT_ODD_PAGE
StartParagraph.NEXT_PAGE
indicating the Keep Options applied to the current paragraph. These also make paragraphs start at a new page.
Finally, there is the possibility that none of the above applies, but the previous paragraph ended right at the bottom of a text frame, and the current paragraph starts at the top of a new frame. No special character or code, but still a page break. (Perhaps you could test paragraph.lines for that.)

Maintaining manual page breaks when exporting to .doc OR .rtf

I've tried to find solutions to this on this board, but am coming up short. Please help!
I have inserted page breaks into my pages document. When I export to .doc or .rtf, the page breaks are gone (the separate pages now just run into each other). Any ideas?

I tried to duplicate your reported behavior.
I found that a Pages file with Page Breaks _exported to .rtf_ opens in TextEdit with NO breaks, opens in Pages with NO page breaks and opens in Word with page breaks as designed.
I found that a Pages file with Page Breaks _exported to Word_ opens in Pages with Page Breaks as designed, opens in TextEdit with page breaks as designed and in Word with page breaks as designed.
So it appears that the only problem is with opening an RTF doc in Pages or TextEdit. There have been other reports here that indicate that Pages support of RTF is weak on import.
