Unwanted phone calls

LS,
I have been getting requests from unknown people for some time, mainly woman with exotic names, that I have always blocked. Since a couple of days I keep receiving phone calls from unknown people with similar exotic names. Today it happened twice. I don't want this, how can I avoid these calls?
Regards,
Eric

To avoid receiving any calls like this, you can adjust your privacy to, Change Allow calls from... "anyone" to "people on my Contact list" only.

you may also block and report the scammers.

  • Unwanted phone calls middle night

I'm a new bt customer, installation was Friday just gone. I've not given my landline number to anyone as yet and when choosing bt I opted for ex directory and a block on marketing calls.
So my landline rings about 40 mins ago (it's now 330am) but I don't answer then again a second time and again a 3rd time and this time I answer to hear beeping down the line. On my caller display screen it said 'international' and when dialling 1471 it said we do not have the callers number to return call
    Any suggestions please?

@Stephens1, we get unwanted calls, silent calls etc etc, cold calling or whatever they are, we got so fed up, I obtained an answering machine and turned all the phone ringers off - I can weed out all the unwanetd calls at my leisure. If someone desperately urgently needs to get in touch with me then they have my mobile to call/leave a text message - I hope these calls stop, if they don't, I hope this helps!

  • Blocking phone calls

Is there any way to block unwanted phone calls? Telemarketers keep calling, do not call list doesn't work. It would be nice to have a feature where I can add these unwanted numbers to a blocking system on the phone.

The Iphone does not have such a facility. It can only be done at network level I'm afraid

    Hello Bibhore,
Calls can be declined by hitting the sleep/wake button twice quickly.
Decline a call and send it directly to voicemail. Do one of the following:

  • Getting mad at all these unwanted telemarketer calls! Do something Verizon!

I've been getting alot of unwanted telemarketer calls the last few months. It always seems to be from the same people but they use different numbers. It's a recorded message that says they have important personal information. I wish Verizon would do something to stop these **bleep**!  It doesn't do much adding the numbers to the don't call list since they always call from a different #. Here are a couple of the phone numbers they've called from.

What makes you think its telemarketers?  The script that you reported usually is a bill collector not a telemarketer..  Have you tried doing a reverse lookup of the number?

that HERE goes back to the circle that Verizon has created...this is crap!  Cannot wait until my contract is up....!!!!!!!
Why are you quick to blame the carrier and also what is changing carriers suppose to do because your phone number is stored in public data base if you are open to pay for info?
I cant get so many blaming carrier but when they get these same calls at home on a land line they dont blame the phone company...  This world is about passing blame...  I dont get it.

  • Removing an unwanted phone line.

    Hi everyone,
I have an unused/unwanted phone line upstairs in my house, now I'm decorating I wanted to remove the cables as it stretches halfway round the place and is annoying. How easy is it and is it something I can do myself?
There is a small junction box by the front door where the external cable enters the property, both the phone lines are NTE5 style sockets that come independently from the box, so I don't think there's a master socket, is that right? Anyway here's an image of the junction box, the line I want to remove is the one on the lower right, slightly in the foreground...

I thought I maybe able just to unplug or unscrew stuff but it seems to be a wire clipping operation, and obviously don't want to get into that when I'm unsure of what i'm doing. If I can do this without call someone out would be good, so any advice greatly appreciated... Thanks.

How can it be openreach's property, I'm not even a customer of theres? And why would I not be allowed to touch the wires going up my own stairs! The world's gone mad. Well I ripped it all out anyway and everything else is still working, I'm not going to line an engineers pocket for a 5 minute job.
Who is the provider of your line? unless it is Virgin Cable or Kingston Communications (Hull) all other communication providers use the Openreach network. Openreach is part of the BT Group.

All my phone numbers have been on the DNC registry since 2007; I have current confirmations.
It is apparent to me that Verizon has no interest in dealing with this problem; I am still NOT convinced that my personal information was not leaked or otherwise compromised by Verizon.  Your assurance that you do not release personal information to third parties is of little comfort to me; Verizon, like any other organization, has in its employ dishonest and/or incompetent people.

I know unwanted calls be a pain in the neck CSwa! I recommend adding your number to the Do Not Call list and taking advantage of our free call and message blocking feature.
Please be assured we do not release any of our valued customers' personal information to third parties. I have included a helpful link below for your reference.

  • Push email notifications interupting phone calls

I have an iPhone 4 running the latest iOS and recently my push email notifications have started interupting my phone calls. I have not changed any setting that I know of. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have stopped getting email notifications from Verizon which told me that I had gotten a phone call on my land line ..  Has Verizon changed this?
Probably not, but it's possible that the setting itself  has somehow been altered.  I have encountered several instances of unwanted changes in settings using VZ Digital Voice (particularly Do Not Disturb).
On the "My Verizon" site, go to Services/Home Phone/Settings, and at the bottom of the Settings Page there is a Call Notification feature.  Set it as desired.

That is a new "feature" described in Connect your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Continuity
You can turn it off by going to Settings > FaceTime and changing "iPhone Cellular Calls" to off

  • Iphone 4s phone call issues

I just bought an iphone4s, white, 32gb. Sometimes when I make a phone call the person that I am ringing cannot hear me but I can hear them. Since the latest updates to iOS, I'm hearding more issues reported to my company where iPhone users are not able to be routed correctly in our IVR. From the PBX, I'm seeing such as the following example: Callers dialing an extension 312, for example are able to dial 31, but the 2 is not responding on the iPhone. When the caller does eventually get the 2 to go through, the PBX states 31 is an invalid extension, and then registeres the 2 as a new entry, which is our Sales Queue option. I have confirmed this on my iPhone 4S.
Dialing in the main keypas dialer on the iPhone is fine. However, the additional, smaller keypad for IVR nagivation use is not.
IF the keypad is fine on the iphone, but not smaller keyboard whatever that is, what makes it an iphone/Apple or software issue.

  • IPhone 4 Phone Call Issues

About a week ago I noticed my iphone 4 (updated IOS) was having issues with phone calls.  I would make a call to someone and mid-call they could no longer hear me.  In other cases, I made a call to someone and they never could hear me at all.  Other cases, someone calls me and they cannot hear me.  Finally ther are cases where I call someone and mid-call there is a bunch of static and they cannot hear me.
I spoke with Apple and they told me that I needed to restore the phone and install it as a new iPhone.  This should deal with the issue.  I did such steps and then synced the phone and tried to make a call.  The first three calls nobody could hear me.  The next call they could hear me for 2 minutes and then static and nothing.
I have had a new SIM card installed and have reset the network as well.  In reading the Apple Support Community postings, it looks like the only long term solution is to acquire a new phone.  Is there any other solution anyone knows of to help remedy this situation.  I have had the iPhone 4 for 2 years without an issue and in the last week, this crops up.  It has not been in water, it has a case on it, I am not covering up the mics, the speaker phone is off.
Next to getting a new phone, any ideas?

There is nothing to sort out.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue still occurs, take the device to Apple for evaluation as there is obviously a hardware issue.
