Unwanted POP inboxes in Mail.

I have three POP mailboxes linked to my Inbox
For example
Inbox
-> Pop1
-> Pop2
-> Pop3
However, I want all of my mail to go into my main Inbox.

I just got my first Mac on Monday, so I have no idea how to tell you what Mail I'm using. I don't even know what system I'm using, to be honest. If you can help me find out, I can give you more info.

No, there is no "main one" -- each account is equally important to Mail. Separate Inboxes is a key to using the correct address to reply from, etc. It is also the key to not losing messages if one account is removed, and you forget to move the messages.
Do you have separate accounts, such as for personal vs business, or are you only relying on some much like using an alias account? Why do you even have more than one account, if not separating?
With some providers you can have the messages forwarded to one account at the server level, and never see them separated in any email client on your computer. Some people have all their mail collected into their Gmail or MobileMe account for easy access while away from home.

If the incoming mail server address remains the same with the new host, did the account's user name change?
An account's user name and password is what checks the incoming mail server for new messages. An account's user name is usually the portion of your email address in front of the @ sign only but with some providers it is your entire email address.
The outgoing mail server has nothing to do with and has no bearing on creating an email account with Mail or with any email client.
When creating an account with Mail, an account named folder is created within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account. The outgoing or SMTP server has nothing to do with this, is not stored in the same location and although Mail's connection test with the outgoing mail server or SMTP server may fail when creating the account, it does not or should not prevent you from creating the account and adjusting the SMTP server settings afterwards.
You can add a number of additional SMTP servers to Mail or delete an SMTP server from Mail after creating an email account which has no bearing on an email account's set up. You can have multiple SMTP servers to choose from - one used to send messages with an account when connected to the internet via your ISP at home and another when connected to the internet via a different ISP at work or elsewhere.
Based on the information you provided so far, there was no reason to delete the old account from Mail. You may not recall seeing the error message but it was provided. You select OK in the error message box to delete the account which informs you all account setup information and locally stored mailboxes for the account will also be deleted when doing so.
FileSalvage will pull up all deleted data that is still available for recovery - located on an area of the hard drive that has not be over-written with other data after the previous data stored in the same location was selected for deletion.
You will look for mailboxes (folders with an .mbox extension) and/or .emix files with each individual .emix file representing a single message that was stored in a mailbox.

Aliases are merely another address within the same account, you won't see additional groups of settings for them. You should however see them as an option in the pull down "From" menu when you create an email.

I keep getting unwanted pop-ups on the top bar of my bt yahoo mail page, next to the contacts box. The current message is wilmadrummondi425. I have Windows XP and Firefox. Solved this problem myself by right clicking on the pop-up and finding a way of adding the name of the pop-up to a list of pop-ups that I did not want to hear from. Thank You.

Lost all my mail in my inbox +my mail account

lost all my mail in my inbox +my mail account settings except @mac.com after a crash of my system.
When I rebooted my mac, a pop-up from mail was telling me that it had created a new folder called "distributed" in replacement of the usual "sent items" folder. This last folder is still there but is empty.
Can I somehow recuperate the settings as it was before the crash?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
After we're sure those things are OK, we can go further.

How do I create a POP alias in Mail?

My business email account is a POP (not a ".mail" account) and has two aliases. I am thinking about switching from using Entourage to the Mail application (mainly because I have two office locations with desktops and need to synchronize mail) and I am not able to set the accounts in the Mail application so I can send emails from one of those aliases. Do the alias email addresses use the same user name and password as the primary account?
If so, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts. Under the Account Information tab for the primary account preferences, add the alias email addresses to the primary email address separated by a comma in the email address field.
All messages received by the alias addresses will be downloaded to and available in the Inbox mailbox for the primary account.
When creating a new message, you can select an alias email address as the sending address for the message using the Account selection pop-up which is available below and left of the Subject field in the message header.

I just opend an account with MAIL.
The trasnfer of my emails worked, but all emails (received and sent ones) from my Gmail account appear in the inbox of mail.
All sent ones appear only in the sent box, if I sent them from the mail programm. If I sent any email from my Gmail account the always be transferd all in the inbox of the mail programm.
I don´t havy any clue what to do. I already checkes all settings - I guess...
I need assistance - please!

This is intended behavior with Gmail POP access,
however weird it may seem. Gmail POP access does not
work as a normal POP mail server should (points 4 and
5 below are relevant to your "problem"):
1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP
mail client are marked as downloaded at the
server, and no longer available to either the
same or any other mail client.
2. To make already downloaded Gmail messages
available for POP access again, you must log into
your Gmail account with a web browser and re-enable
POP downloading for all your messages, which will
cause everything (and I mean everything) still
there to be downloaded again.
3. Any "Remove copy from server" account settings in
Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced have
absolutely no effect on the messages stored on the
server. The reason is that, after being downloaded,
those messages are no longer available to any mail
client, not even to the same client that has just
downloaded them, not even for deleting them or
checking whether they are still there.
4. Messages created and sent using the web interface
will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they
were incoming messages. You can set up a rule in Mail
to automatically route those messages to the
appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for
that matter) if that's what you want. Although this
may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving
all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they
were sent -- as long as you don't access the same
Gmail account with more than one mail client, that
is.
David, thanks for your reply. Yes, point 4 seems to be relevant for my problem. How does it work to "set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the Sent Mailbox" (in Mail). I want my messages downloaded from my Gmail account to be ordered in the Inbox and Outbox in Mail (like it is ordered in Gmail). The messages which I sent from the gmail account should not appear in the Inbox of Mail...
5. Messages created and sent using a POP mail client
such as Mail are also treated as if they were
incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in 4.
What prevents them from being downloaded is that
Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately.
They would, however, be downloaded if Gmail settings
were changed as described in 2 above.

Can't move imported messages to inbox on Mail

I just finished importing my lifetime of email from Eudora into Apple Mail 4.5. My Eudora IN box became just another mailbox called "in" in Mail. I am trying to move the messages from this mailbox to the Inbox of Mail, but everytime I try to this I get the following error message:
The message could not be moved to the mailbox “(null)” The destination mailbox does not exist.
But of course it exists! It Mail's default inbox.
Can anyone help me figure out what to do?

Is this the Inbox of a POP account? Try using Rebuild on both the account Inbox, and this import mailbox. Rebuild found in the pull-down under Mailbox.

Successfully delete a POP account in Mail

Hello folks. I want to delete a POP account without deleting all its contents... and have come up with a cunning plan. Please advise if this will work.
I have two POP accounts called OLD and NEW. I wish to delete the OLD account and keep the NEW.
1. Move all inbox contents of OLD into inbox of NEW. OLD inbox is now empty.
2. Move all drafts contents of OLD into inbox of NEW. OLD drafts is now empty.
3. SENT is a single inbox, labelled LOCAL. Leave this as is.
4. In MAIL>PREFERENCES>ACCOUNTS, Delete OLD inbox.
Will this work - i.e. will that delete the OLD inbox whilst leaving the contents of NEW intact? My fear is that messages are somehow tagged and the deleting process will destroy messages that were PREVIOUSLY in OLD.
Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Thanks .

Sure, I understand.
You can move mail either to your POP Inbox (in which case, Mail will actually try to send those messages back through the mail server - I believe it will try to use the OLD SMTP server, so if that's defunct, it might not work).
Or you can move the messages to a local mailbox. Since you've already downloaded them, they're technically stored locally, but moving them to a local mailbox will keep them safe from POP deletion.
Note: if you have a lot of messages (thousands), I would recommend using right-click and Copy To, rather than drag-and-drop (which moves), especially if you're sending them back out to the NEW account. If the process fails, a copy is easier to recover from.
Either way, once they're safely copied out of OLD, you can delete that account.
