Unwanted PopUps in Safari

I have owned and worked on Apple computers for many years and never had any issues with any type of viruses or pop-ups and now I do.  I cannot think of anything I did but now anytime I open a new Tab or do something on a web page new tabs immediately open.  See below.

Also, when I open other sites like Snapfish I get these pop-ups on the top and bottom of the website.

I was hoping there was an Apple fix.
There is an Apple fix, and there is absolutely no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "Downlite" or "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the support article, you may also need to remove this item in the same way:
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This malware is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
if it's not already checked.

  • How do I get rid of annoying popups in Safari?

All of the sudden I started getting annoying popups in Safari.  When I close them, they reopen a short time later.  I have popups blocked in my preferences.  Please help.  It's driving me crazy.

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Why am I seeing popups in Safari

I have been seeing these strange popups in Safari on my ipad 2 running ios 7.
    One says
    setup.exe. 0 bytes
open in ...      open in Skydrive
    the other one:
    cannot install profile
Safari could not install a profile due to an unknown error.
Any idea why these are appearing?

If these are native dialogs (not fake dialogs displayed in the web page) and if they are unexpected, you may be visiting web sites that are trying to automatically download malware.
The "setup.exe" file is likely targeted at PCs running Windows.  I would definitely not open the file in Skydrive, though, because you don't want someone on a PC to open the file later, not knowing what it is.
The error message about not being able to install a profile is more concerning, however, because Safari for iOS does support installing configuration profiles (*.mobileconfig) files.  Safari (or Settings) would have still asked you if you wanted to install the profile had it been valid, but you should always say "No" unless you expected to download such a file.
Note that there could also be more benign reasons for these to appear (for example, if you clicked on a download link for setup.exe for legitimate software in a mail message), but if they appeared unexpectedly during browsing, I would suggest that you be more cautious about visiting those web sites in the future.
    Hope that helps.

  • Unwanted popups appear while printing from a VS CR page

I am a new employee with 3 years experience in .Net, only small experience in framework, and no experience in Crystal Reports.
We are trying to upgrade our production box to a 2008 64 bit server. My boss has almost everything working, accept for printing is giving us grief. It is setup to print a report in a web page with a printing icon we display. It eventually prints, but a horrible little popup is displaying. The header lines says "Print, and the body of the popup says "Crystal Reports Print Control". There is a "cancel" button that is greyed out, and that it it.
The actual "Print Setup" pops up too, but we want that one to show. It goes directly to my default printer.
Once I say that I want to print, that same popup changes what it says. It then says "Retrieving page 1 of 2", etc. It goes pretty fast. I can't read it all. Once all the pages are printed, another unwanted popup appears.
It says "Server Error" as the heading, "An error occured on the server. Printing will be stopped. Would you like to view the error information?" as the message, and a "yes" or "no" button to choose from.
I have tried selecting both. When I says yes, a browser opens a file called "PrintControlError.html" that is completely blank.
We have Visual Studio 2008, and we are using CRS 12.0.0.683 and CR Basic for Visual Studio 10.5.0.0.

    1) What CR assemblies are you referencing in your project?
Here is the assemblies from the web.config file:

The crystaldecisions.crystalreports.engine.dll versions referred to in the project are v1.1.4322 & v2.0.50727.
    3) What CR Service pack are you on?
When I look at what is installed, I can not find any service packs. My boss has also posted something on this web site, and he says that we have Crystal Reports 2008 Fix Pack 2.8 - redist installed. He also said that we tried SP3 to no effect. I hope that that helps.
Re: ActiveX server error when printing
    4) Are you seeing this issue on the development computer as well as the runtime server?
The production box is the only 2008 64 bit that we have, and it is the only computer that we are having an issue on.
    5) If on the runtime server only, how was the CR runtime deployed? I see CR Reports 2008 runtine is installed?
I'm not sure how CR was deployed, because the only 2 other developers to tough this are gone.
    6) Are you using default app pool, or custom app pool?
Don't know how to answer this question.
    7) Are you running the app pool as 32 or 64 bit?
Don't know how to answer this question either.
    Sorry, newby here.

  • Safari unwanted popups "Back, reload page, open in dashboard, etc..How to turn off?

Using Safari 8.0 and OS X Yosemite,  repeated pop ups while scrolling with magic trackpad, - "Back, Reload Page, Open in Dashboard, etc.". and scrolling stopped. I have to hit esc to resume scrolling. How can I turn this off?

    Hi mikesy,
Based on the description of the menu you are seeing, it sounds like you may be inadvertently activating the Safari right click menu. If this is incorrectly configured or too sensative, you should be able to change it in the Trackpad preferences; you may find the following articles helpful:

Microsoft to investigate the issue and they suggested it may be limitation in safari browser.

  • Popups in Safari?

This has appeared in several other posts, but I thought this deserved its own thread. Some enterprising ad-ware creeps have figured out ways to circumvent Safari's popup blocker.
So far I've only seen this using Safar 1.3.1 on OS 10.3.9. I'm current with my updates. I've seen popups on yahoo.com and on dictionary.com. The last time this happened it turned out to be a vulnerability in the Flash plugin.
Anyone have any solid info on this?

    Tom-
Amen to that. My University keeps putting pressure on my dept. because we have so many Macs, but schnikies... are they stupid? Do they like the countless "billable hours" that invariable result from using Windows as an OS? Do they like spy-ware, key-loggers, back-door ridden, virus spawning ghetto? And that's just the appetizer to what filth Microsoft has pulled politically.
Check out the following two articles if you're in the mood for a hoot:
    Lobbyists Tied to Microsoft Wrote Citizens' Letters;
JOSEPH MENN, EDMUND SANDERS. Los Angeles Times.:  Aug 23, 2001. pg. A.1
Microsoft Plans Stealth Media Blitz; Publicity: Campaign to conjure image of public support called just a proposal by firm.
Miller, Greg, Helm, Leslie. Los Angeles Times: Apr 10, 1998. pg. A1
They basically summarize how MS went as far as to write fake editorials and form bogus grass roots movements to oppose the anti-trust lawsuits. I lived in Communist China, and that sounds a little too similar to the editorials that were meticulously fabricated by loyal cadres. I wrote a rant about this here:
http://www.pocopico.com/rants/cultofmicrosoft.php but several papers were scared to touch it for fear of being sued. The article was heavy handed, but I didn't make that stuff up.
I think if we're looking for morality, it ain't gonna come from a corporation. I'm just glad Linux has such a following.

  • Popup on Safari that will not go away

I have a popup on my Safari that will not go away, even when I restart my computer. It's to call a number immediately to get help, which I Googled & it is a scam. Can anyone please tell me how to get my Safari back to working right. Thanks
Below is what the popup says:
    http://mac-system-issue.com
    Safari - Alert
Suspicious Activity Might Have been Detected.
    Major Security Issue
To fix it please call Support for Apple
    +1 800-680-0697 (Toll Free) immediately!

Let me preface this by saying that I am in no way a tech person.  I just followed other people's advice and somehow it eventually worked for me.  I'm sure I didn't do it the easiest way or the fastest way, but I was trying anything I thought might help.
    1) First I tried overriding Safari with a new version but then realized that it was incompatible with Lion, so I upgraded to Yosemite.  Didn't help.
    2) I then opened Safari (same problem was happening) and did a force quit.  There are a number of ways to do that but I chose to click on the apple in the top-left corner, go down to force quit, and then select Safari.  Then I went in to Library > Safari and deleted the "LastSession.plist" and then emptied my trash so that it would be totally off my computer.  Then I reopened Safari holding the shift key.  When it opened, a box came up basically asking if I wanted to restore my last session.  Read it carefully and choose the option that will start a new session instead of reopening your old work.
I have no idea if the fact that I upgraded my Safari and operating system helped or changed anything.  You may be able to do everything in Step 2 and get the same result....but that's just how it all worked for me.
Hopefully it helps.  But I know this particular adware popup i a real bi-atch because it basically totally disables Safari.

  • My Mac Book Pro has become slow on Facebook and continuously gets popups on safari after updating to mavericks

My Mac book was running perfectly fine before I updated to mavericks and now I get flashy "you won" popups and others that slide across my screen. I have pop up blocker on and have continuously restarted my safari and cleared it. Nothing seems to work I think I have a virus. Please help!

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Mysterious popup in Safari

I have just noticed a weird popup when launching Safari (4.0.3) in the last couple of days. It appears immediately upon launching in the centre of the page directly below the tab bar. It says - and note I have EXACTLY replicated the line breaks and (wonky) spelling:
Next update is avalible to install:
    - Safari addons engine update (version 1.2.8)
Do you want to download and install it now?
The first line is in bold. There is a Safari (compass) logo to the left and 'Skip' and 'Install' buttons to the lower right. Can anyone throw any light on this, please? Needless to say I only hit "Skip" and I make the observation that legit Apple stuff never has dumb spelling errors like "Avalible"!

Well, well. Thank you again Josef. Early days,'cos I've only done one relaunch but I've evicted two folders from the location you mentioned - Plugin Kit Input Manager and Smart Crash Reports - and the pesky popup seems to have disappeared.
    Fingers crossed, and thanks again,
    Gary.

  • Malware popup in Safari

This morning, I was using Safari on my iPhone, and a pop-up took up my screen, even though I have pop-ups disabled. The message was from some sort of msn.microsoft site, and it stated that my PC might be infected with malware or a virus, and I needed to run some sort of security system to check. It was not possible to close the popup, or to return to the previous page. The only option was to hit ok. I hit ok, then quickly closed the internet page before I could be redirected. Question: do I now have malware or anything malicious on my iPhone? If so, how do I get rid of it?

do I now have malware or anything malicious on my iPhone?
    No.
It's a scam site intended to persuade gullible Windows PC users into buying fake security software which will just infect your PC with even more malware.
The iPhone cannot download anything except pictures through the Safari browser, so you have nothing to worry about. There are no viruses that can infect your iPhone.
Just don't visit the (dodgy) web-sites where these popups occur - especially on a Windows PC.
