Unwanted Posterization

I've been trying to get rid of this annoying posterization (the loss of color gradation) in my stop-motion films that I put into iMovie. No matter how I import them (full quality) they come out worst than the original QuickTime File the moment that I import it. And this is with the best settings.
See what I mean: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5123/5302827783682814580co.png
You've got these ugly green blobs everywhere...

Oh, and would the old QuickTime Pro do a better job, and not give me discoloration and loss of quality?

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 posterization problem on vignette

I am having a problem with posterization in my image. When I try to vignette my photo (with black) it starts to block up in areas, mostly in the darkest part of the gradient. It ends up not making a smooth transitional gradient and leaves a line where it blocks up. It shows up on the screen as well as on the print. I have a calibrated LaCie CRT 19" monitor, G5 and I am working from digital raw files from a Fuji S2 that are AdobeRGB and also film scans that have done the same thing. What can I do to prevent this? Is it something to do with my G5 or is it the software in Photoshop? If there is any info that left out to help solve the problem please let me know!
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

If it shows up on screen and in print, then issue is with the software.
Adobe has forums. Might try there.
    best wishes

  • I would like to know how I can delete sync photos from my ipad as I have tried everything to delete them as they are unwanted and it was a first time try

I am having problems deleting unwanted photos from my photos app on my ipad, I synced with my pc as i wanted to see how the system worked, and now i cannot delete any of them, even with the delete button at the top left hand side, which does not function

If it was synced from your computer then it can't be deleted directly on the iPad, you will need remove/de-select it from where you synced it from on your computer and re-sync.

  • How would an Apple fan keep unwanted images out of Photostream in IOS 8?

So Apple decides that people don't need an uncluttered thumbnail view of all photos stored in their iPhone in IOS 8. And the UI geniuses also decide that the concept of cloud (aka "server side" in 90's terms) storage and local storage is just too much for the average iPhone user to grasp.
The UI design choices that sprung from this mindset have reduced usability, efficiency, but more importantly the family friendly reputation that Apple trades on in nearly all of their marketing material.
Finding images (particularly when you have thousands) in the Years/Collections/Moments(Maps too!) paradigm is ridiculously inefficient compared to a scrolling screen with rows upon rows of thumbnails touching each other in chronological order. Of course we can quibble about whether the chronology should be based on file creation dates or EXIF metadata but those are decisions that we don't get in the IOS world (yes, another complaint). My main point here is that they had no reason to get rid of Camera Roll. Why can't it exist alongside the YCMM world of dates/locations and useless search tools? Let's face it, the new Recently Added Album is just a silly smart folder as are all the other albums. Why can't I change the 30 day date range to one of my choosing? Or why can't I add what Apple would call a Smart Album into my Albums just as I can add Cro-Mag dumb albums that need constant updating? This would bring back that good old Camera Roll functionality so people not confused by cloud vs local and like to keep track of their original image files could be happy. And the people that need Simple would be happy too.
But back to my original query. I use my iPhone for many purposes including work. I also take iPhone screenshots for work. I also take a lot of pictures and not all of those images should be in my family and sharing oriented personal Photostream. After all Apple, you sold me an Apple TV which I can fire up and share my recent life experiences with others. Why the heck would I want product photography, conference room whiteboard pics, iPhone wallpaper, and all the different images that are not the "selects" but that I want to archive using Lightroom or iPhoto anyway showing up IN MY FAMILY SLIDESHOWS? One of the benefits of digital imaging is the cheap cost of creating and storing many images. I use my iPhone often as I would a DSLR and I frequently shoot many images that are very similar, sometimes using burst mode in the phone. Why would you force me to completely delete images that are not "favorites/selects" just so I can maintain a decent slideshow via Photostream? Why do you not want me to have pleasing wallpaper downloaded via the sundry App Store wallpaper apps? Any new wallpaper I add will now be in the Photostream. Yes, family dinner with the Apple TV slideshow showing images of cars, puppies, clouds, and abstract patterns interspersed with the trip to the pool last weekend sure makes for some great viewing!
This is because you also killed the Photostream album view and I can no longer delete unwanted Photostream images unless I also want to completely delete the image local to the iPhone. If you go to the YCMM (Years/Collections/Moments/Maps) Photo tab there is no way to treat the local image separately from the cloud based Photostream image. This is absurd. You can't pitch Photostream as a lifestyle feature since you now prevent editing and curating this very audience specific collection of images. It's as if you forgot that a huge number of iPhone users are creative professionals! And we use our iPhones for professional purposes as well as personal.
Not to mention that this design choice HUGELY increases the probability of "inappropriate" photos being uploaded to the cloud and lost control over through hacking or just user misunderstanding of how iCloud and Photostream works. Amazing that Apple would do this considering the recent scandal.
So now I'll answer my own original question with a lame "workaround" answer. And yes, it involves a lot more work as opposed to the couple of touches that I used frequently in IOS 7 and earlier to curate my Photostream right on my iPhone: You have to have another IOS device (pre IOS 8) and delete the images from Photostream from there. Or use iPhoto to do the same. So add yet another task to your Reminders app that is now much more of a hassle.
Apple, for the love of Pete, please don't take away control over my source image files and my ability to create collections of images for different purposes.
    Thanks.

Excellently well put and accurate. The answer of course is that Apple want us to rent vast lumps of storage from them. Your point about appropriate images is well made. It's not just **** either but maybe legitimate images that you don't want shared out in the world, such as your wife and daughters caught on camera whilst sunbathing topless in the security of a private villa on holiday. That could prove embarrassing to them if they found their way out into the public domain, easily done by accident from a phone. The fact is that Apple have decided for pure commercial gain to take control of our means of controlling and storing our images. I shoot mainly portraits of my extended family and Landscapes. I don't want to share my images across mobiles etc, I want to sell them or give them to family members myself . Apple you are losing the plot here and alienating your core supporters.

  • I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?

I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?
Let me explain a little more. I had downloaded a lot of free books in the past as a trial when iBooks was first released and since then I have decided I no longer want them, because of this I hid them from the purchased section of the iBooks store. The 5 books left are ones I decided to keep as seen in the following picture.
This is how it appears in iBooks on my mac. There are 4 books downloaded and 1 book that I have decided not to download at this time. I would still like to keep this book available in the cloud incase I want to download it again in the future. You’ll notice that hide iCloud books is not selected, if I wanted to hide the book that I have chosen to keep in the cloud, but have not downloaded yet I could.
This is exactly how I think this feature should work. If you have hidden a book from your purchases it should not show up in the mac Ibooks app. (I am aware you can never actually delete a purchase, just hide them and that hidden purchases can be restored to your account from within the account management section of the iBooks store).
The iOS app is working differently for me. Here is a picture of the purchased tab on the iBooks store in iOS Ibooks. Again notice that pictures of Lilly is still yet to be downloaded. This is how I expected it to look.
If we visit the front page of iOS iBooks the view is very different from what I expected. Here we can see the 4 books I wanted to keep on my device and have downloaded. We can also see the 1 book I wanted to keep, but did not want to store locally on the device and left in iCloud (Pictures of Lilly). However we can also see all the books I had hidden from the purchased section of my iTunes account and which I believe should no-longer be visible, Dracula, frankenstein etc…
I am aware of the hide iCloud books button within the iOS app, but I did not need to use this to hide the books I had removed from the my purchased section of the iBooks store on the mac, why are they still appearing in iOS?
I’m still not sure if this is a software glitch or not. This article suggests to me that books can be hidden, but I had already completed these steps.
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201322
A browse of google also suggests people may have been able to hide past purchases from the front page of iBooks on iOS in the past.
In case there was an issue with syncing I tried logging in and out of my iTunes account via settings in iOS. Force closing the app, disabling automatic downloads and removing my device from iTunes in the cloud. Syncing with iTunes on the mac did not correct the issue either.
Interestingly I have the same issue on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.3 as I do on my iPad mini suggesting that this might be an issue either with my account or with iOS iBooks software in general.
If there is a way to remove the already hidden iBooks in your account from the front page of iBooks on iOS without using the hide iCloud downloads button? Please help community!

My apologies for the lack of photos, here is my post again with photos.

  • Unwanted Arpeggio In Logic 8?

I'm having a rather frustrating problem with Logic 8, I'm getting unwanted arpeggio via midi and cannot seem to find a way to stop it. It's only occurring when the track is playing and only appears to be in this specific arrangement all my other tracks are fine.
I've checked the midi environment and there is no arp set up there.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks in advance

if I must rewind the tape history of that, you both with Eric were quite rude regarding my personalty
I was quite polite at first and respectfully asked you to try a bit harder to be appropiately helpful - you took this as an attack which is wasn't meant to be at all, but I admit that you wound me up and I responded a little more annoyed than I should be. Well, I'm human. If you'll notice since then, I have made no direct personal insults at you, and yet you continue to do so, to me, and other members of the forum.
I will not quote you, you know that you do this. And I'm asking you to stop, because it does you no favours. This is not just me, there are plenty of posts shocked at your rudeness from other members too.
which was a sign of your madness about some of my skills I guess.
Indeed - your communication skills. Nothing to do with Logic, I never had any doubt you knew what you were talking about - and no, that doesn't threaten me in the slightest. I like smart (friendly) people. And knowledge doesn't threaten me one bit - in fact, I'd far rather hang out with people far smarter than me than hang out with people far dumber than me and feel superior to them. I like learning stuff from people far more talented than me.
I'm using an intelligent way to fill your gabs (following the forum agreements) and provide quite professional schemes and tools which are far away of your dreams inc extra information, images, template hosting etc, which in most cases are quite useful if you read the users feedback ...
Once again, as I've said many times before, you provide good correct information and are clearly helpful and in this regard your posts and contributions are welcome here. Your personal attacks are not. SImple as.
I see that you both are somehow injured about anybody's "phantom superiority".
What I can offer you is to post in some other forums.
    sigh
In this case, you will may find out that there are some very knowledgeable guys who post quite many schemes, give too many personal professional advices etc
Yep - and this is great!
if you blame these specialists using a quite rude way into "superiority", the result be - you will be banned form the forum. In many cases the "superiority" guys are the forum moderators as well
What's sharing information and being helpful got to do with being rude? You've lost me. Rudeness is not something to be admired no matter how good someone may be. Some forums, particularly some US-based audio forums, can be harsh, I agree. But this isn't rec.audio.pro, or Marsh, or the Womb, and the TOU of the forum ask you to play as adults - I would hope we all can manage that.
I'm asking you (politely) one final time to cut the attitude here please.

  • Help! Colour banding graphics problem /posterization?

    Hi.
I've been having a few problems lately with colour banding/gradients/posterization. I first noticed it 3 or 3 days ago in photoshop, and seem to have noticed it's mostly system wide. I ask her because you're all clever and I don't have a clue what to do next! So please help me!
Quoted from my thread somewhere else that I've had no luck with and was recomendded to try here...
Since yesterday whenever I'm using Photoshop and there is blurred edges/gradients etc, basically not solid colours, there is really noticeable sharp colour banding lines around it.
It's happened before and I've accidentally had it on 8-bit instead of 16-bit, but I've checked all that and it's on 16-bit.
I've googled it and the only suggestion was about duplicating the layer and blurring it then adding noise, but that didn't even work.
[EDIT] SINCE THEN I HAVE REALISED IT IS AFFECTING SYSTEM WIDE GRADIENTS AND COLOURS
My system is set to Highest 32-bit too. I changed it to 16-bit to see what happened and it made the banding 10 times worse.
    An example of the problem
Posted: Thu May 03, 2012 7:32 pm    Post subject:
It's supposed to be a smooth gradient. I didn't use the gradient tool, I used the brush tool with solid white and then smudged and blurred it like I always do.
That's a good point, and actually I did start it as an 8-bit originally (my photoshop has been starting as 8-bit, grayscale for a few weeks now and I don't know why) but then after I remembered and changed it to 16-bit, and noticed the banding, I closed that document and started a new one and changed it to 16-bit RGB when the pop-up for a new document came up.
The resolution is always 72pixels/inch, and the size 256x512, colour mode RGB.
In advanced it says colour profile Working RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1 which I have no clue what means, and I never usually click advanced so I don't know if that is usually that or different.
When I use the brush tool and blur and smudge it it's fine, with no banding. It's only when I lower the opacity of that layer, or use Hue/Saturation and Lightness to darken it so it's hardly visible that the banding appears.
I've just tried it again with a fresh new document and it's still the same. Even in 32-bit it's exactly the same.
It's done it before, and all I did was close and reopen Photoshop and it was all fine again, but this time it happened last night and since then I have restarted my computer, had it turned off for hours, and I've even tried it on gimp and it's the same.
Ruled out that it's my monitor, tried a different one that I know works perfectly and it's still the same.
I've double checked all drivers, and monitor profiles, and drivers for my monitor, and colour profiles, and colour management, my graphics card settings, device manager for problems with any hardware, and everythings coming back fine. Could it be that my graphics card is old and just needs replacing? I'm not good with which one to buy so would getting a new one the same be of any help? The computer is about 6 years old, and the only thing changed on it is the RAM and hard drive.
I don't really want to end up not using this computer anymore if it's a simple graphics card issue, I just don't know how to tell if it is.
The thread that is from is here if you want to see some suggestions I've already had.http://www.imvu.com/catalog/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpbb2&file=viewtopic.php&t=423942 &postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
My username is 'Ao'  on there so that is me explaining the problem.
    To add to that...
Here is another example of what is happening.
I'm thinking from all the answers I got from google its a graphics card problem. Only problem is all the updates are installed, and I can't find anywhere that sells my graphics card to buy a new one. So I need to know which graphics card will work with my system right now?
I've done some tests so you can see my system details. Im clueless with which one to buy so please help.

Thank you for the reply, you seem to know what you're on about.
When I go to color managment in the first tab, devices, where it says profiles associated with this device it is empty, and 'use my settings for this device' is unticked. It says device at the top and mine says 'Display: Generic Pnp Monitor - Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family'.
I did try to set up my monitor and had the .icc file for it in that list that pops up when I tick use my settings and click add, and I think I did set the profile to be the one for my monitor. I can't remember exactly how I did it and where I get that .icc file from, I've been through so many settings and websites trying to fix this.
It's not like I've recently changed any hardware or anything or my monitor, I was on photoshop one minute and it worked fine, then the next it just didn't. It's so strange because all I was doing at the time was using photoshop and I don't understand how it can go from working fine to all these problems with graphics and the banding. It's so confusing.
I can noticeably see banding on that image. It is still a gradient and smooth to a degree, but there is obvious lines of colour differences, and a harsher line on the outside.
Is that smooth for you? For me there is very obvious banding, especially at the top on the white on black.
I just don't know what else to do. I've tried everything I can think of, and spent hours upon hours on google. I've even tried a system restore to put it back to how it was when it was working perfectly, but it's still the same. I tried it on another monitor, just plug and play, and it was the same. Is there an easy way to install a monitor properly so that it should in theory work perfect? Because you're talking about the monitor profile, but with the second one I tried to test it all I did was plug it in and it was still the same. I've even tried it on my tv, and as I remember I think it was less noticeable, but then again that might be because of my tv settings because my tv is quite dark.
Just clueless as to what else to do now. I don't want to go out and buy a new computer for £100's over this, as I don't really have the funds to do so but I need a computer so the only option would be to sell my new iphone that I only got last week! Which I obviously don't want to do. That's how desperate I am to fix this though.

In mail Snow Leopard, the trash button was red, the unwanted mail orange, there was a type button.  Now the type button is gone, the rest is grey, why?

I mean in OS X Lion of course. Same with Finder window: There used to be a 'Today' option, where has that gone? It was so easy to have an overview of the work you were busy with. Does anybody has a tip?

These are the downsides of a shared library because if you delete the song from your library it will get also automatically  deleted from your kids library. If you want to proceed then please follow this guide: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4915

  • How do I stop Firefox from opening unwanted sites or (inescapable) dialogs

My Firefox, as soon as I open a web page opens either (1) an overlying dialog typically flashing saying I am the 1000000th person or my computer is slow or buy this or (2) another unwanted site in another tab typically trying to sell something. Cases of type (2) are annoying but at least the tab can be deleted but cases of type (1) prevent me from using Firefox at all because the dialog does not have an exit button so I have to stop Firefox to get rid of it. This problem only happens with Firefox - IE never has these problems. I have scanned for malware using 3 different programs and I have tried deleting Firefox and re-installing it (keeping my profile) but the problem is still there. If I knew what the process was I could at least delete the process.
I love my Firefox - please help!

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • How do I prevent unwanted website/browser actions?

Since a year or so, I notice a lot more unwanted things happening with my browser while I am surfing the net. For instance:
-websites changing their address while keeping the appearance of a previous page. They then lead to other content usually.
-websites changing other open tabbed pages, and removing the possibility to go back.
-websites opening several instances of themselves, so you can't skip back one page, but have to skip several by jumping. Clicking back doesn't work anymore then.
-websites refreshing themselves due to advertisements.
-websites opening other windows(casino ads i.e.). These pop-ups never seem to get blocked.
    -websites resizing the browser window.
I understand the best way to avoid things like this is to avoid some websites altogether. But is there really no way a browser can be made/configured to block actions like these for me?
I guess the problem is, that a browser can't differentiate a user-command from an unwanted script giving commands. Even so, there should be things that can be done.
For instance a button that blocks a website. If you can add a favorite page, why can't I add an "unfavorite" page just as easily? Next to that handy "star"button in the navigation bar, there should be a "block" button.
Another thing that comes to mind is some sort of "kill switch" for scripts. Right now I am looking at a tabbed page that keeps refreshing itself every so often due to the ads on it. Why can't I stop that with my browser? Just stop. That's all I want. There should be a way to kill the auto pilot and get back manual control.
I know there are things like adblock, flashblock and such. I just don't want to have to resort to third party addons and crap like that. Things like these should be built in options to increase security and give better user control and experience.
Even though browers are getting better and better(like the private browsing and such), I do get the feeling that I am in less control of what websites do on on my computer than ever before.
Anyone have any tips or thoughts for me? Thx.

  • How do I use clipping mask to cover unwanted background?

I'm practicing illustrator myself. I have a book for illustrator hoping it would show me step by step on how to use the masks to take away any unwanted background in a photo but it didn't do that. Can anyone teach me how or show me where to look for the information on how to use the clipping masks or other type of masks? I went to the adobe workshop video to look for the answer but it didn't show exactly as what i want to know. The image i'm practicing on is a family photo and i want to isolate everything to just one person in the photo so how can I do that using clipping mask? Thanks!!

oh~~~ so i still need to use pen tool to draw the shape out. I thought there's something i could use to make the shape easily. Stupid me XD
I was wondering if you could help me more...can you give me a rule of thumb like when is best to use illustrator to edit image or photoshop?
Thanks for your tip! I really appreciate it!!
