Unwanted redirection

While reading an article on CNN I was again redirected to a Yahoo search page with the following advisement: Sorry, the page you were looking for could not be found

However, I had not clicked on anything, in fact was reading without touching my laptop. As a precaution, I removed and reloaded Firefox in the event that the intial download was tainted or faulty somehow. The results are still the same - unwanted and unexplainable redirection.

Hello,
Can you see any Add-ons that you did not install yourself? If so then remove them.
If that doesn't help then I think your best option will be to uninstall and then reinstall Firefox. This will remove all user information, settings etc.
If you are using Firefox Sync from your desktop then hopefully this shouldn't be a problem for you because your data will get synced back over once you have a blank copy of Firefox for Android installed again.
I realise this isn't an ideal solution. If the above won't work for you then post back and hopefully another support volunteer will reply with a better solution.

    iPad mini, Safari, intrusive unwanted redirection preventing browsing.

    Double tap the Home button, then Swipe upwards on the Safari preview.
    Go to Settings - Safari - Clear History.
    Restart Safari.

  • How to get rid of excessive pop-ups, ads, and unwanted redirects

    About month or two ago, I started getting excessive ads on my computer. Scams, Microsoft stuff, Adobe Flash upgrades hat were obviously fake. The ads generally appeared on the pay, but evolved to gene ate separate tabs and windows. It gets really annoying when i can't click twice without getting a scam, or being redirected. I don't know if there are similar topics. i'm not going to look cause in the 5 minutes it took for me to write this, I've been redirected TWICE. I hope someone can help me. Adblock previously installed, but was uninstalled BECAUSE IT DID ****. I am an active gamer, particularly Minecraft.

    P.s, before someone asks, yes, I already held a cross up to my computer. It didn't work.

    You may have installed the "VidX" trojan, perhaps under a different name. To remove it, first open the Applications folder by selecting
              Go ▹ Applications
    from the Finder menu bar, or by pressing the key combination shift-command-A. Look for an item named "VidX," "MacVx," "MacSmart," or similar. If present, drag it to the Trash and empty. If in doubt, delete any application you don't recognize.
    From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
    Uninstall any extension you don't know you need. If in doubt, remove all of them. You may well have more than one that's adware or spyware.

  • Unwanted redirect on all home computers, one website only

    I am experiencing on all of the computers at home (two connected via a router) and my iPad at home the same redirect when I attempt to go onto a particular website. It is not happening at work; it is not happening (thus far) on any other website. It happens to be the link to a blog I write. I contacted the blog host to confirm that the site itself has not been hacked; it has not. The links and address bar work fine from other locations, just not here at home.
    Even when I try to type the address into my address bar, I get the same redirect.
    The redirect is ww10.later.com
    I have a MacPro, OS X 10.9.4
    The same redirect happens whether I use safari or firefox
    Can anyone out there advise?
    I've tried looking at safari extensions...I examined the library folders... and I am not very technologically savvy. Is it possible there is some odd problem with the router provided by our phone company? All has been working well up until 24 hours ago.
    Thanks in advance.

    You, or someone using your computer, may have hacked the system to redirect queries to certain servers. The file modified is /etc/hosts.
    The easiest way to fix the hosts file is to restore it from a backup that predates the modification, or to copy the unmodified file from another Mac. If you can't do that, then do as below.
    Back up all data before proceeding.
    If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    open -e /etc/hosts
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. A TextEdit window should open. At the top of the window, you should see this:
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1                              localhost
    255.255.255.255          broadcasthost
    ::1                                        localhost
    fe80::1%lo0                    localhost
    Below that, you may see some other lines. The first 10 lines should be exactly as above, apart from differences in the blank space within lines. Otherwise you can't use this procedure—STOP and ask for guidance.
    If the contents of the TextEdit window are as described, close it, then enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (by copy and paste):
    sudo sed -i~ '11,$d' /etc/hosts
    This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Confirm. Quit Terminal.
    If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Log in as one and start over.
    That will fix the hosts file. There is now a copy of the old hosts file with the name "hosts~" in the same folder as "hosts". You can delete the copy if you wish. Don't delete the file named "hosts".

  • Apache - Unwanted Redirect to VirtualHost

    On my Arch VPS, Apache keeps redirecting the root site (fallaciouslands.net) to the first virtual host in the vhosts file, forum.fallaciouslands.net, even though there's nothing telling it to do that. I've been playing around with the configuration, like putting a simple web root virtual host first, but nothing has worked.
    etc/hosts
    httpd-vhosts.conf

    teekay wrote:This is expected behaviour if you don't have a vhost configured that matches "fallaciouslands.net" in the ServerName/Alias. If none matches, it picks the first available.
    Yeah, I figured that out yesterday. I actually had done it before, but it didn't work when I tried to visit the site, probably because I needed to clear my cache -- stupid Firefox.

  • Just bought some domaine names, but can't see them. they are redirected. best guess it is something embedded in firefox. i can't see anything though. help!

    I bought some domain names from Godaddy. when i type the name into my firefox address line, instead of going to the parking page at godaddy, where it should go, it gets redirected to searchpagefix and there is a message on the side that says looksafe has blocked a hijacking page, etc.. i've spent hours on the phone with godaddy. they say the problem is not on their end. they see my domain name (peter-maloney.com) on their parking page. i spent hours on the phone with Norton support, my security software. They ran tests and diagnostics and found nothing. I downloaded ad-aware and ran that, nothing. I looked for looksafe to uninstall, etc. and it doesn't show up anywhere on my windows 7 machine. any suggestions? did this looksafe thing somehow get embedded in firefox? do i need to reinstall firefox? would i lose all my favorites?

    Bad redirects can result from a variety of causes, including (1) system level malware, (2) system level settings changes, (3) bad Firefox add-on, (4) Firefox settings changes, (5) other (depending on the nature of the redirect).
    Here's what I suggest for tracking it down:
    (1) Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    (2) Then, in Firefox, open the '''Add-ons page''' using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
    Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    (3) Check your '''Firefox connection setting''' in the Options dialog here:
    "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
    The default of "Use system proxy settings" should piggyback on your Windows/IE "LAN" connection settings, but you also can try "No Proxy" to see whether that works better.

  • Firefox redirect and advertising virus

    A couple of days ago Firefox started doing unwanted redirects.  Also, some of the phrases on web pages are highlighted in green which highlights unwanted advertising.  Is this the Google redirect virus?  Not sure, because if I switch to Bing the problem does not go away.

    The extension seemed to show up a few days ago when a popup window appeared for no reason.  The window had an archer aiming at several different bullseye targets.  Against my better judgement I pointed the arrow at the target and shot.  Afterwards, nothing but trouble. These web url's seemed to show up a lot.

    Click here and follow the instructions, or if they don't cover the type of adware on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == was happening with Internet Explorer, continues with Firefox

    Did you do a malware check?
    Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
    You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
    Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

    Hi kjkirtley,
    Your question is not quite clear about where you are doing the searches from, but I will presume you are trying to do searches from Safari (Apple’s web browser) and it is using Bing as the default search engine. You can set the default search engine to Google by going to the Safari menu > Preferences > General > Default Search Engine:

  • When i browse a genuine web page, it redirects to unwanted sites should i disable java

    When i browse, randomly, (in the avast web page checker shows it as good with green mark) the browser it self redirects to unwanted adult site, and when i close click the next time, i get the original page. When i browse through the firefox history, it gives index index and then redirects to the page. It is sheer unwanted browser.
    http://a1r25k1nuc5mj5m1wdv7prp.bioderma.name.tr/index.php?j=YndpcWF2PXZ3YmZnanJqJnRpbWU9MTMxMjEyMDYwOC03MjM3NTQzODMmc3JjPTMzNiZzdXJsPWhlbHAubG9ja2VyZ25vbWUuY29tJnNwb3J0PTgwJmtleT05N0NGNjc0QiZzdXJpPS9vZmZpY2UvbWFrZS10ZXh0LXNjcm9sbC1hdXRvbWF0aWNhbGx5LXdvcmQtcG93ZXJwb2ludC0tZnRvcGljdDEwMDc4NjMuaHRtbA==
    similary some index file entries then the unwanted site. i have immediately disabled java RE.
    Is this enough? or is there permanent solution.

    Interestingly enough, I had the same thing happen '''today''' when I clicked on a search result in Google. It hijacked my request and redirected me to this same bioderma(.)name(.)tr server. It only happened once though, and I cannot seem to reproduce it.
    May I ask what kind of plugins you are using? And most importantly, what DNS provider are you using. (That is, do you happen to be using OpenDNS?)
    You can test it here (it will show a checkmark): http://welcome.opendns.com
    I don't have Java enabled, never did.

  • Google searches get redirected to unwanted search engines (adware)

    I have google on the toolbar but it is also on homepage. If I put in a search criteria such as "Top 40 songs for 2010" it gives me a list which includes billboard's website and description. However, when I click the link or any similar links on that page, It redirects me away from billboard and puts me back at some unwanted search site such as scour search . That site looks like another such engine but it mostly contains advertising or companies selling a product not even related to my search.

  • The home page opens unfinished, keep being redirected to unwanted add pages.

    When Firefox opens my home page ( Fox News ) the page doesn't finish. Some of the page is still in what I would call (code) and there are large blank spaces between articles.
    When the home page is opening it often gets redirected to unwanted pages. If I right click on the green back arrow the word redirect is one of the lines there.
    I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it. No change.
    I opened Fox News in Google Chrome and it loaded OK.

    I'm not sure why you are being redirected but here are some thoughts:
    (1) In case your preference for .us is stored in a cookie -- rather than an account setting -- try clearing cookies for the site (this likely will terminate your session, so save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * click the globe or padlock in the address bar > More Information > Security > "View Cookies"
    * right-click the page > View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
    Any change when navigating from the home page?
    (2) If you granted the site permission to access your location, turn that off. You can access site-specific permissions while viewing a page on the site using the Page Info dialog. Either:
    * click the globe or padlock in the address bar > More Information > Permissions
    * right-click the page > View Page Info > Permissions
    * Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions
    (See screen shot regarding Location permission)
    (3) If the site uses your preferred language to redirect, you could add en-GB and re-order your languages. However, this could lead to strange results on other sites. If you want to try it, access the Languages dialog from Content options here:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Content > Choose button
