Unwanted "Search using Search" keeps reappearing in search box
I have the search box set to Amazon and Ebay only. Suddenly "Search" which brings up results in Bing has infected itself in there and nothing gets rid of it, not removing it, Spybot, Malwarebytes. It always brings itself up to the top, only to be removed again. Once Firefox is refreshed, it manifests itself again.
I'm aware I use an older browser; I simply prefer this over all the deletions that are constantly being made on upgrades. This only happened a few days ago. Thanks.
Here is a jpg paint scan of it: http://www.mediafire.com/view/ejgl2y4l717w712/Mozilla.jpg
Hello,
Please update your Firefox to the latest as older versions are known for vulnerabilities that make it easier for your system and browser to be compromised.
* https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox/
* To update: Help > About Firefox
After updating, you can install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer] to bring back the old design. Learn more here: [[How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox]]
Check your extensions for anything suspicious:
* Tools (or [[Image: New Fx Menu]]) > Add-ons > Extensions
Check your list of install programs in Windows - Control Panel > Programs and Features. Usually malware comes bundled with other applications, so if you sort by date and see several applications installed at the same day, it may be easier to find suspicious applications that way.
The [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset Tool] extension will also reset your home page, new tab page and search bar preferences back to the default settings, and the uninstall itself.

Deleted mail keeps reappearing in new box
i try to delete my mail, but when i toggle between folders, by the time i get back to my IN box, they're all still there. i can't get them to the trash. on top of that, my trash won't delete either. it's stuck on "opening mailbox"
I was just searching the forums for this very problem, and was disappointed that the originator of this thread didn't seem to have the same symptoms!
If I copy a message, or designate it as junk, or delete it, it grays out but doesn't delete. I can delete it by erasing deleted messages (Apple + K) just as you describe. I would like to fix it so my messages would delete automatically when they're copied, like they used to.
Should I try the same things you recommend for this thread's originator, or is this a different problem?
Thanks.

Search engines keeps reappearing
Every time i remove yahoo and bing from my list of search engines in the search bar they keep coming back.
''' Make google/wikipedia/bing as Default '''
In order to change the default search engine or the order of search engines in the top right search box in Firefox, please perform the following steps:
#Move the mouse cursor inside the search box at the top right of the Firefox window and click the down arrow next to the provider's logo.
#If you would like to select another search engine, simply pick the engine from the dropdown list.
In order to change the order of the search engines, do this:
#From the dropdown list, select ''Manage Search Engines...''.
#In the upcoming window, you have all your search engines listed. To change the order, simply click one search engine and then select ''Move up'' or ''Move down'' from the buttons on the right side in order to change the order of the search engines. -
So my search tools keep forcing me to use yahoo search (but on the search box it's called "Omnilboxes". I also get weard adds and pop-up windows on every website. And when I go to shopping websites, it redirects me to Aliexpress. What to do?
You may have ad-ware.

When using the browser, when I go to aolmail and open my email account and click on my mail to open a message to read. The mail opens and content shows for a quick second and then goes blank. The Bing search box appears in the email content section. If I use internet explorer there is no problem. The email can be read. I am using firefox 3.6.15, home vista.
That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links in that part of the screen not clickable.

Somehow when I do a search from toolbar it redirects to bing. I have been unable to restore it so that it goes to google. How do I remove this unwanted search engine?
Hi kjkirtley,
Your question is not quite clear about where you are doing the searches from, but I will presume you are trying to do searches from Safari (Apple’s web browser) and it is using Bing as the default search engine. You can set the default search engine to Google by going to the Safari menu > Preferences > General > Default Search Engine:

This might be a duplicate-I neglected to click submit-so am trying again.
Since I upgraded to v. 31, my location bar makes me type the address in exactly, or else it says not a valid address. I guess somewhere the awesome bar got lost. Also, my search box does not have any search engines listed at all. Back around v. 29 I added the classic theme restorer addon, but did not think that would have affected the location and search bars as it upgraded. Any help you can give me will really be appreciated. I have worked on this for days. At one, time the location bar was gone completely.
Thanks in advance!
mljDo a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
*(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

Now, the cursor always sits at the addressbar after www.google.ca/[cursor], no matter whethor it is a new instance or a new tab (but not new page, that's okay). It's most frustrating to see that I've typed out my search only to have to go and retype in the search box again.
This issue does not exist in Safari or Camino browsers, which I have also used in the past.
Basically, I just want the cursor to appear in the search box as soon as google starts up and instead its going to the address bar.Karl
It sounds like you are having trouble with your internal Hard Drive.
Whilst this is quite serious, sometimes you can fully recover from the situation, depending on what happened.
One of the most useful and reliable rescue utilities is DiskWarrior:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11707/diskwarrior
If you are lucky it may be something as simple as a damaged HFS+ wrapper, which can be repaired and have you back up on your feet again in relatively short order.
It pays to periodically check the *S.M.A.R.T. Status* of your drive, at the bottom of *Disk Utility.*
This is a self diagnosis function that may indicate impending problems. However if the disk has sustained physical damage, such as caused by a hard knock, nothing will redeem it.

I am using Linux mint 12 with firefox.
Everytime I try to type something in the search box a further box appears to tell me this is a JSON file and what program should I use to open it.
This has only happened since reinstalling my system a couple of weeks ago.
I am not really interested in what a json file is I simply want to get rid of this pop up box.Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Can the Google search box in Safari be made to use the UK Google search page?
I've only just realised, (after nearly eight months of Mac ownership!), that my Google search results seem to be rather US-oriented.
I think this is because the search box in Safari, which I do have set to Google as my default, is using the US Google.com search engine instead of the Google.co.uk one.
Am I correct in thinking this? And, if I am, is there any way of tweeking Safari to use the UK version please?
I'm using Safari 5.0.5If you want to fix your Google search to a specific Google location, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:
http://www.machangout.com/
which not only does that but much more equally useful stuff! Such as enabling Safari to run full-screen, and more.)
(It adds items to Safari Preferences).
Not only does it already list a number of search engines and regions, but you can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field. -
Sometimes when using the Google search engine, after using the Back button in the Firefox 4.0.1 browser, I am no longer able to click in the Google search box.
This problems has been occurring on two different machines over the last two days.I think this may not be a browser problem but rather a Google problem.
I am getting the same problem with the Google Chrome browser. -
I don't know how much more I can add...However, when I type in the Norton Safe Search box up to the search button in Norton Safe Search I can continue to type but I can't see what is being typed because it doesn't allow me to see the trailing end of what I'm typing. This along with the fact that the letters and words don't always automatically advance a space, they group together as I'm typing and I have to stop, provide a space and continue once again. This only happens in Mozilla Firefox, I'm using Firefox 3.6.19. This doesn't happen in the Norton Safe Search Box in Internet Explorer
Maybe another extension that you have installed is causing that problem with that Norton Safe Search add-on.
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes <br />
Disable all other extensions and see if Norton works correctly. <br />
I so, start enabling extensions one at a time until you find the culprit.
If not, create a new Profile and verify that Norton is the only extension that appears in the new Profile and see if it works correctly. <br />

If not, the problem is with the Norton add-on. -
When I try and use the search box in the centre of the screen Firefox crashes and try's to send error reports before closing down completely. However if I use the search box at the top of the screen everything works OK, additionally if I use the bookmarks everythign is OK.
I am using a MAC computer OS LionIf there is a problem with searching via the default about:home page then try to reset the search engine used on the about:home page.
Reset the <b>browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone</b> pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the <b>about:config</b> page and close and restart Firefox to restore the about:home page to its default.
#Open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar
#Type in the Filter bar: mstone
#Right-click the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone line and select: Reset
#Close and restart Firefox
If this didn't help then delete the delete the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder and repeat the above. -
How do I stop the Google Search Box from opening and scrolling down when I use the PGDN key?
On My Home Page (Earthlink) - when I use the PGDN (or the down arrow) key to navigate - the google search box opens and scrolls down through recent searches. I really want to just scroll down the home page as I did in the past.
How do I fix?Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
''(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)''
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item:<br>
[[Image:FirefoxSafeMode|width=520]]<br><br>
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Thank you.
