Unwanted swatch effect

Sometimes, when I attempt to change the color of a text by clicking on a color in the Swatches list, rather than change the color in the text, it keeps the original text color and adds the newly selected color in the area immediately around the text (in the shape of each of the text characters so that each character is thicker than the original). When this happens, how can I re-set the settings of the Swatch list to return it to its regular functions so I don't get the unwanted effect? Thanks.

Okay, I was able switch what the swatch panel was doing by hitting the x key (I had thought perhaps you meant a "key" icon on the screen), which is good, thanks. The only other thing is whether or not it is possible to change the text that had been changed previously to the undesired font appearance back to the regular appearance. Even after I switch the way the swatch panel works (via your directions), the already-changed text won't change back. Any thoughts?

  • Unwanted shadow effect?

    Hello Acrobat Forum:
I've had an annoying problem with PDF created from InDesign CC for months now, and I can't figure out what's wrong because it seems intermittent, and I can't narrow the variables to figure out when it's happening or why.
Sometimes, a PDF I create from InDesign has an unwanted shadow effect under much of the text, and the colors come out dull and darker. Here is a screenshot of the same PDF file exhibiting the problem and one that does not exhibit it.
Oftentimes, I will export a PDF and it's fine, but then I'll edit something and re-export it, and from that point on, any number of exports to PDF will result in a drop-shadowed file. The drop shadow effect is present at all view magnifications except extremely zoomed in (~1600%)....then it goes away, but the colors are still too dark.
When I export PDF, I am using the same preset I've created each time (including the same ICC profiles), but the results can vary for some reason....
    NO PROBLEM:
    PROBLEM:
I did manage to find a small discussion about a similar problem, and the suggested solution was to use "Gracol" as the ICC profile the PDF is forced to use during export. That is not a good solution since many times, people I send files to for review will preview PDF attachments in web-based email browsers whose PDF plugins don't support anything but sRGB....
Any ideas what is causing this problem? Or, when it occurs and when it won't? Or, what solutions there might be?
    Thanks for reading!

  • Unwanted special effects in iMovie 6

Macbook pro OSX 10.6.8  iMovie 6
I know i should upgrade but the newer iMovies are not intuitive and v6 does everything i need it to.
Some unwanted special effects are suddenly appearing in my iMovie 6, flying saucers, fireworks, balloons floating thru, flipping, waving screens.  I think it must be coming from some shareware installation i looked at for some special purpose, maybe masking or subtitles, but i cannot find any on my computer, (except MeditEdit).
Importing directly from my camera, which i frequently do, is totally messed up.
I have thrown away all the preferences i can find but they keep coming back everytime i open the application iMovie.
    Where are they?
    What software installed this?
How do i shut it off or kill it?
    Help.

    Hi
    First
    • trash iMovie pref files - in User library/preferences - You've said You've done that
    • repair permissions - Disk Util tool
Then You can now look into User library/iMovie and here Plug-ins
    • I moved all of them out onto DeskTop/Finder - when iMovie IS NOT running.
    • Now test iMovie
Alt: Start a new User Account
    • Log into this
    • Re-try iMovie
Does it run OK now ?

  • Can I swap the power supply on my iMac G5 without any unwanted side effects?

    Hi All,
I'm new and have searched related posts, but have not found an answer to this exact question.
I have a first generation US version iMac G5. The label says that the power supply is 100-120V. Can I swap the power supply using an internationally rated power supply (100-240V) from a later version iMac G5 without any unwanted side effects? Such as the iMac G5 ALS power supply?
I live China and would prefer not to rely on an external power suppressor or convertor. I would prefer to plug and go.
    Thanks,

  • Unwanted strobe effect showing on rendered clips - Adobe CC 2014

I'll try and describe the issue as best as possible - I haven't been able to find any similar issues by googling or on forums.
As a bit of information about the project it's adobe CC 2014 with a mix of c100, c300, Gopro and various other footage so a mix of .MTS, .MXS and Mp4 files. All stored and edited from external hardrive via USB 3.
I started out by having red frames appear when I scrubbed through footage on the timeline, and then they appeared in the actual exported file - which from googling seemed to an issue with media encoder not being able to render the source clip properly.
As part of the fix which seemed to work to get rid of the red frames I moved the media cache files from their default location users>library>applicationsupoprt>adobe>common to a render folder which I created on the external hardrive. To be specific I manually deleted media cache and media cache files then created the folder on the external drive and directed adobe to put the files there. That got rid of the red frames but a few days and a different project later I started getting a strobe like effect where every other frame on a few (seemingly random) clips is black, except for the top left corner which shows the image in part. When the footage is unrendered (red on timeline) it plays back fine. When it's rendered the strobe effect happens everytime on playback and with export. All clips it happens to are c300 clips, but there are plenty of c300 clips in the timeline it doesn't happen to. All clips have the same effects on them.
I've made all clips offline, and reconnected media. I've uninstalled and reinstalled adobe CC desktop and all apps about 3 times and used Adobe cleaner to get rid of files then reinstalled. Nothing seems to work. I have noticed that even though the media cache files are redirected to the external drive now, it still creates a media cache folder in the default location and puts some render files there. Perhaps it's something to do with these duplicate render files???
    Hope that makes some sense.
    Anyone else had this happen?
Any help/advice would be much appreciated. It's for a TVC and needs to be delivered next week.

Thanks Simon, I think you're right.
I seem to have narowed ig down to being a combination of the 'warp stabilisation' effect plus a vignette (made from black video and 'circle' effect).
Whenever these effects are both on, and the clips are rendered I get the strobe effect, but if one or the other is off I don't anymore.
At least I can export the edit with warp stabilisation effect, and then add the vignette to the exported clip - not ideal but a work around.
    Hope it get's fixed soon.

  • CS4 - Unwanted ghosting effect showing up in all videos - Similiar to an onion skin

I'm having some sort of weird ghosting effect on all my videos in Premiere Pro CS4. It's similiar to an onion skin that shows the previous frame. It shows in the timeline preview and when I render out the video. I've never had this problem before until just a few days ago. It even shows up in old premiere files that I made weeks ago that didn't have this problem at the time. I've even tried working on a different computer using a different Premier CS4 and had the same problem.
Is anyone else experiencing this or have I gone crazy?

The videos are 30fps and so is the project.
Are you sure of that? That's definitely frame blending, which occurs in two instances: when a clip has been explicitly time-altered (e.g. from 100% to 33.33%), or when a clip's frame rate does not match your sequence frame rate. For instance, your clips might actually be 30fps, but your sequence is probably 29.97fps--a minor difference, but enough to cause the problem you're seeing.
Confirm the true frame rate of each of these, and if they're different, you can put the clips in the correct sequence, or you can interpret your clips to match the sequence--a change of 30 to 29.97fps is not going to cause any weird slow downs.

  • Unwanted lightening effect around placed graphic

I originally posted this in the InDesign forum but that may have been the wrong way to approach it.
I have an Illustrator vector graphic placed in InDesign, it's over a dark background.
Placed by itself the graphic looks fine, exports to PDF fine and prints fine.
However, there is a drop shadow effect added to the frame in InDesign (using the regular select tool), after which the placed graphic still looks fine.
There is, unfortunately, an invisible lightening effect added to the graphic which only manifests in the printed PDF.
This lightening effect is not visible in the InDesign file and is not visible in the PDF on screen (even when I check the separations), it is only visible on the printout of the PDF.
Since it is not visible in the PDF, here is a simulation of the lightening effect:
    http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/8025/windoweffect.jpg
    Anyone experienced anything like this?

It could be anything, but probably due to flattening issues on PDF export.
This is your screen shot, background removed, the two colored rectangles added in ID, added text for "The Gathering," the PS file added and the drop shadow effect applied to the PSD file from within ID. Screen shot is from the PDF.
    Take care, Mike

  • How to get rid of an unwanted rippling effect in FCP?

I imported a still photo from Photoshop into FCP and tried to apply movement to it. If I only move it sideways, it looks fine, but when I keyframe a rotation on the photo, I get a weird rippling effect that looks like the pixels are out of sync.
I then tried keyframing the same photo in After Effects with the same rotation and it looks fine in AE. However, when I render it out and bring it into FCP, I get the rippling effect again.
Last, but not least, instead of rendering the After Effects timeline as an .mov file, I tried it as a .jpg sequence, .tif sequence, .png sequence and just about everything else you can think of.
So.....I'm at the end of everything I can think of. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Tiffany

Are you watching on a Mac - or on a TV?
You should always preview on a TV or pro monitor - FCP gives a very low resolution preview which is very misleading.
Also, you could try adding a little motion blur . . . that's what it's for.

  • IPad iMovie playing unwanted sound effects

I have a movie on the iPad that plays the phone ringing sound effect. I have not put that sound effect in the movie. What is up?

The "yellow caution badge" that Peter refers to indicates that iMovie can't locate the clip, whether it be video or audio. The "badge" is in the shape of a yellow triangle enclosing an exclamation mark - see this picture:
One tip that may help is to delete iMovie's preference file. That file can become corrupted under certain circumstances, such as when iMovie quits unexpectedly or is Force Quit.
The file is located in your User (Home) folder Library/Preferences and, for iMovie '11, is named "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist".
Close iMovie, then drag the .plist file to the Trash. When opened, iMovie will create a fresh .plist file with the default settings, which you can change if desired in iMovie's menu item iMovie>Preferences.
Deleting the file will not harm your existing Events or Projects, but may fix iMovie's abnormal behaviour.
NOTE: I have seen similar behaviour myself, as you and Peter describe (but not as serious - it was on a test project). My fix was to check each and every audio track and switch Ducking OFF and ON (or ON and OFF depending on its setting). The disappearing audio suddenly re-appeared on the problem track. But it may have been coincidental, as I was playing around generally - perhaps something else I did triggered it.

  • Sliding Panels Unwanted "Bouncing" Effect

    Hey there,
When a sliding panel is moving, it bounces downwards and slowly makes it's way back up.
    Here's the page where it's happening: http://www.newerthleague.com/test.php
You can move forward through the panels by clicking on the play button (fourth button from the left).
The cause is that I have the SlidingPanels class padded 10 pixels on the top and left. As soon as I remove the padding there's no bounce. But the problem is I need to keep it there in order for the images to look right inside the border.
Can anyone please suggest something to fix this? I have tried using margins and padding almost everywhere and absolutely nothing takes this bounce effect away.
    Thanks in advance, Chris

    You're great thank you!
I added 10px of padding to the left and top of the images and then simply increased the width and height of the SlidingPanels class by 10px to show the change and it's working great!
    Thank you very much Beth

  • Unwanted Bevel Effect?

When adding a grain pattern effect to an object in Illustrator CS6 I get an odd bevel that surrounds the object. There is nothing in the Appearance window to suggest that there should be a bevel and I didn't add it myself.
Is there some setting I am missing or an easy way to remove the effect? For now I am masking the object with a slightly smaller object but it's starting to drastically increase the size of my file.

Nope, I'm still getting the bevel effect in there somehow.
It just seems odd that Illiustrator would add that in for apparently no reason.
And here's a shot of the Effect window:
Also, it only seems to happen to the Horizontal and Vertical Grain effects.

  • Unwanted swatches

    Hello,
Whenever I open a new document, there are a few swatches from previous projects already in my swatches.
If I delete them and open a new document, the same ones are back again.
There are a some swatches I would like to be included in every new project, but not these.
How do I go about defining my default swatches?
    Thanks

With no documents open, edit the Swatches panel to contain only what you want in a new document.
Same trick applies for setting your default font, etc. Just do it when there aren't any document open.

  • Unwanted "Glow"-effect in PDF?

Hi, here’s a real issue for the experts:
A customer of mine needs to save images as photoshop-pdf format to fit in his workflow, and there is no alternative to that.
If an image has transparent areas and is placed in InDesign and than exported again as a pdf, you can find at the transition between pixels and transparency a „glow“ effect (as if someone had used the Layer Style „Outer Glow“). It is shown in Acrobat and also printed.
What does NOT affect this issue:
    any changes of settings when you save the image as a pdf, even the „Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities“ setting;
    any changes of settings when you export the pdf out of InDesign no matter if the transparency is flattened or not;
    the versions of Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat (CS5, CS6 or CC, no matter);
the platform (PC or Mac) and the OS-version.
    What DOES affect this issue:
the total amount of pixels! There is a definite threshold value: 5,244,000 pixels. Yes, it’s that strange: if you are above this number of pixels, the result is the glow effect. If your below this number of pixels, the glow effect ist gone.
Here is an example how this effects an image placed on a dark background in InDesign:
    http://www.wolfgang-meininger.de/testking/Haare_frei_auf_dunkel.pdf
This PDF has two pages, and the difference between the two is the amount of pixels of the placed image...
    Any ideas for a solution?
Thanks for all who deal with this issue!
    Wolfgang

    Hallo Herr Adelberger,

  • New AlphaComposite.ScrOut - unwanted side effect

In the code below, I draw a 'node' (= Ellipse2D.Float) by drawing its outline and filling it in with colour, and then draw 'link's (= Line2D.Float) between certain nodes. When I change the Graphics2D composite to be SrcOut (so only non-intersecting pixels are drawn), the colour of my nodes becomes black. This makes no sense to me, since the colour value I look up is either blue or pink. Any suggestions as to why this happens?
    580         public void renderNodes(Graphics2D g2d) {
    581         g2d.setComposite(AlphaComposite.SrcOut);
    582         for (int i = 0; i < spitwebSize; i++) {

[i]Addendum: Apologies for double posting, but I feel I'm more likely to get an answer in the Swing forum section rather than the Fundamentals section.

Yes, I did, and no such problem occurs with them; sadly because of the sequence of draw commands I give (which is unalterable), I can't use any of the other compositing methods.
    Anyone got any ideas?

  • What Side-Effects/Problems Can I Expect With Perian?

I have installed Perian in order to view downloaded .flv videos from Vimeo.
However, I seem to recollect a year or so ago, that some people were experiencing unwanted side-effects with other apps such as FCE.
I can't remember what these were or how to stop them other than by uninstalling Perian.
Any information on things to be aware of would be appreciated.

That reassures me . . . touch wood (aka knock on wood!).
I shall now forget that I have it installed but hope that someone will remind me if any of my pro apps start misbehaving!
Incidentally, yesterday I downloaded some 1080 x 720 HD videos from Vimeo made by friends, and when played back on my 40" Bravia via the WD HDTV they look very impressive. The MP4 ones play immediately on the TV but the FLVs need converting in Streamclip to MP4 (H.264 and AAC).
The only fault is that some occasionally show a very slight glitch, almost like a dropped frame, but it is not very noticeable unless you are looking for it. No doubt I will discover what I am doing wrong in the near future.
A couple of years ago I could never have imagined getting anything so good from the internet via a telephone line . . . . . I wonder when it'll be providing 1920 x 1080!
