Unwanted urls load every time I open a new Safari window.  How do I stop this?  Is this spyware?

I have 4 unwanted urls that load every time I open a new Safari window.  How do I eliminate this?  Are these spyware or other malicious code?
I have trashed cache.db, history.plist and LastSession.plist and these did not solve the problem.  Thanks for any help I can get.

I'm having trouble keeping up with this topic ... every time I've finished a post, there's three or four new replies showing up and the troubleshoot has moved on.
The toolbars can be (silently) installed by a number of different packages/websites, although I fear I'm well behind the times on what packages/websites are most commonly installing them for folks nowadays. There's a lot of variations about, as it's a platform rather than a specific application:

I'll defer to Carolyn on the state-of-the-art when it comes to removing the toolbars.

    Hello beany1818,
Also check in Safari Preferences and look in the Safari Opens with and make sure that it is set to “with a new window” and not “all the windows from your last session”. Take a look at the article for more information.

  • How can I save my customised toolbar so it is there every time I open a new browser window

I have created a customised toolbar with all the icons I want but have to do it again every time I open a new browser window.

i found i had almost exactly the same problem as you. one evening my itunes just wouldn't start up, it told me that 'itunes is unable to open because some of it's required files are missing, please re-install itunes'. now, i personally know a lot on the subject of computers and how they opperate, i had the built the computer that i encoutered the problem on myself. as soon as i came across the problem, i immediatly thought that i would be able to simply uninstall itunes and quicktime, and then re-install.
after doing this, nothing changed, i went straight to 'add or remove programs' in windows, and tried to remove itunes from there. it wouldn't uninstall. i racked my brains over the problem, until i found this article, which provided a great deal of help. for anyone who later has this problem, go and download this freeware from microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301 this program will immediatly remove any unwanted programs with ease, whether they are running or not. after using this program to uninstall itunes, re-install, and your problem should be solved.

  • Every time I open a new Firefox window a dowload dialog box opens

Every time I open a new Firefox window, a download dialog box opens with the last youtube .flv file that I converted to an mp3 from www.flv2mp3.com and the box offers the options to open it or save it. I have to click cancel it every time (or try opening it or saving it) to make it to go away. If I open a new tab or new window while I still have the original window open, it doesn't do it. Is this a glitch in Download Helper or did I get a never ending script from flv.com, or what?

  • Since upgrading to FF v4, every time I open a "new window", all other instances of FF windows open, how can I keep this from happening?

Since I started using FireFox version 4, every time I open a "new window", all other instances of FireFox windows open up. This is annoying as it often covers up instances I am currently using with instances that I don't wish to use right now. I can't seem to find a way to keep this behavior from occurring.

  • Every time I open a new tab, it no longer goes to the standard "you've opened a new tab" page, but to a searchwebsite of Babylon. How do I fix this?

Every time I open a new tab, it no longer shows the standard Firefox "new tab" page, but a search-website by Babylon. I don't know how to fix this.

To revert to Google as your preferred search engine, please do the following.
    * In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.
    * In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''
    * Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q=
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
'''To reset your home page, do the following'''.
    * Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.
    * Click the orange Firefox button and go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''
    * Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.
    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.
After you complete the above steps, install this add-on to prevent another search engine from modifying your preferences: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/browserprotect/
It's possible that ''Babylon ''will add itself to more than one place in '''about:config'''. Therefore, after completing the above steps, open about:config again, type "''babylon''" in the filter at the top and for every instance where you see a setting with that name in it, right click it and choose ''''''Modify ''''''and then ''''''Reset''''''. Then close Firefox and restart it. See example screenshot.
Babylon search and toolbar will be installed with an IM chat client called ''Digsby'' if you don't opt out of it during the installation. See the info at the foot of this page: http://techshali.com/digsby-instant-messenger-and-email-manager-social-networks/

  • Every time I open a new tab my older tab disappears.

Every time I open a new tab my older tab disappears. The old page is still open, but I cannot see it. How do I fix this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How to stop multiple auto-switching to address bar every time I open a new tab and try to type something anywhere outside of address bar?

How to stop multiple auto-switching to address bar every time I open a new tab and try to type something anywhere outside of address bar? Like something just wants me to use that embedded search when u type something not-web-address in address bar and hit enter. And the most ridiculous thing is that it happens repeatedly on like every second, like I just move down from address bar and start typing again, but then again it switches me to address bar, and 3, 4 times like that. And the result is also that I can't see the address of that page.
I think its has something to do with my AVG antivirus, because this started the same time some AVG Nation started to appear in every new tab i open (and thats also irritating me, I read about it here on support.mozilla.org and it seems that the only solution is to completely reinstall Firefox, but I dont want to lose all my settings) but when i type something in address bar and hit enter it opens the search results in Google.
Please try to help me, I like Firefox but I must switch to Chrome until I fix this problem.
    Thanks in advance

First, please update to Firefox 32. 22 is no longer support nor is it secure. Then let us know if you still have this problem. [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]

Firefox can have multiple home pages if you wish. Each home page that will open when starting Firefox is separated by the "|" character.
