Unzip WorldWeather Widget

How do I unzip the WorldWeather widget? I double click on it and it creates another copy with a .cpgz extension. I right click and choose open with Archive Utility and the same thing happens. Thanks.

Where are you downloading it from? The one on the Apple site

In a bit of a stroke of luck, we have managed to fix the first issue - the video was simply placed too far down the page, and for some reason was creating extra space at the bottom. Moving it up the height of the widget fixes the issue!
We are still experiencing the second issue however with the pages apearing white and displaced. This is now happening in Chrome too. You can see this here and in the screenshot below:
I will email you the most up to date Muse file that is causing the problem above.

Error while Installing and Starting SAP Widget Development Tools

for Installing and Starting SAP Widget Development Tools as an Eclipse Plug-in
I am very new to it, So I was following Step by Step procedure.
On the 16th step I am getting an error:
AP Widget Templates (0.12.0.1167) requires feature "org.eclipse.gef (3.3.0)", or equivalent.
I had download the SAP Widget Development Tools.zip file from https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/downloads?rid=/webcontent/uuid/b03b6544-c741-2a10-8999-ed04eb2b2c71
While unzipping the eclipse-SDK-3.3.2-win32.zip, there were two errors:
The System cannot find the file specified &
The file name or extension is too long.
I ignored them and continued the unzipping.
Please guide me as to how we can solve this error.

Is it because I am using Eclipse 3.3.2 and not 3.3.0? If yes from where I can download Eclipse 3.3.0

Hi Ankur,
This happens sometimes because of the Eclipse that you use. Download the Eclipse JEE Version. When you go to eclipse.org and try to download eclipse you can do a comparision of the versions there, You download the version which supports all the web features.

Check the above link you will be able to see the package details. Please download this Java IDE for EE developers and try installing the SAP widgets foundation then, If you are facing any problems in installing the plugins thru local archived site please let me know.

Pages 5 docs are unzipped packages - won't upload nicely

Just an FYI really.
Turns out Pages 5 documents are 'unzipped' packages. So they won't upload from browsers like Firefox - because they see the package simply as a folder. Safari seems to know to 'zip' a file during upload, but you end up with a zip file in your online system rather than a document. This in turn plays havoc with (for example) Apples Server 3 wiki software...
Server 3's wiki lets you upload most common document formats (e.g. including Pages 4.3) to the wiki - you get a page with a reasonable rendering of the document that you can scroll through and / or download.
At least on my system, attempts to upload Pages 5 documents result in an endless spinning device, under a heading that suggests that the wiki zipped up the file during the upload process.
Just to compound this - if you try to upload a file to the wiki using Firefox, clicking on open with a Pages 4.3 file highlighted takes you to the uploads widget. Clicking on open with a Pages 5 file highlighted 'opens' the folder and shows you the content....
Not had these problems since the early versions of iWork documents that were not zipped up...
Presumably the change back to unzipped packages is part of the 'iOS' compatibility thing... but not a helpful change at all.

All Pages v5 application on Mavericks, and Pages v5.5 on Yosemite write out uncompressed package folders. If you want to move these off of the OS X filesystem, then you need to right-click (two-finger tap) and choose compress document name (e.g. foo.pages.zip). Now you have a single file archive that travels well.
The release of Pages v5.5.1 on Yosemite brought with it a means to enable backwards document compatibility with Pages v5.2.2 on Mavericks.
By default, Pages v5.5.1 saves a document as a compressed archive — not a folder. This is a boon to those that need off-Mac filesystem support. There is no preferences override for this. It is this archive format that is not backwards compatible to Mavericks. However, there is now a File > Advanced > Change File Type menu hierarchy. The two choices are Single File (default archive format), and Package (folder). The first is good for non-Apple filesystems (e.g. Dropbox), and the second, a package folder, is the format that can be opened by Pages v5.2.2 on Mavericks.
When creating a new document, you must first save it before the above menu is enabled. Choosing Package with an open, single file document, will convert it in-place to a package folder within Pages. Recommend you hit File > Save again for good measure.

Widget creation: html5 & swf

I'm trying to figure out how to create custom Captivate 6 widgets that will publish to html5 and swf. I figured I'd start by pulling apart the A3C widget that's in the Captivate 6 gallery. I rename the file to A3C.zip. Unzip it using my Mac's archive utility then zip it back up again. Rename the file back to A3C.wdgt and try to import it to Captivate. I then get the error "The description.xml file is missing from the widget". When I check the folder that was zipped up, the file is definitely there. This seems to have something to do with the format for the zip file. What zip utility should we be using to create these widgets?
If anyone can provide a pointer to documentation for creating custom widgets in html5 & swf beyond that provided in Captivate Help, I'd appreciate it!

I've been successful so far with two approaches. Where an Adobe-supplied widget almost works (everyone I've tried has bugs and/or missing critical functionality for html5 output), I just edit it as needed. The tricky part is that Captivate tries very hard to overwrite any changes you make in the Gallery with versions that it may be pulling off the web. In fact, I've caught it replacing its own widgets with buggy old versions whenever you load your project.
What I do is give my updated widget a new name and then use Insert Widget, rather than loading it from the Interactions window. The only annoying problem left is that I can't figure out how to get Captivate to update my widget in place. When I make changes, I'm forced to delete all uses of the old version and freshly insert the new version, restoring by hand all variables changed from the defaults.
My other approach, where I'm creating something entirely new, is to insert it as a web object. Then I've used variables and events for communication between Captivate and my widget, which can lead to timing problems if you're not careful. Also, I the assets for this "widget" don't get automatically moved to the right places when you publish the project as they do for real widgets, but there are workarounds.
By the way, if your code is going to be html5-only, you can shortcut the Common Javascript calls and just access your Captivate variable directly (in the Captivate top window).

[OSS-worked-around] Kernel modules being unzipped after every reboot?

I've been having this issue for a while, but didn't bother to track it down until now...
Every time I log into my desktop environment (xfce4, xfwm, through slim) the process monitor widget shows one full core of CPU usage for almost a minute after the desktop loads. I open it up to look at what's going on, and immediately after I update oss it is gcc rebuilding those modeles, but every other time it appears to be running a whole bunch of "sh gunzip <path to various places in the kernel tree>". Now, I update fairly regularly and generally only reboot after an update, but I checked it and this happens after every boot even if I haven't recently updated anything.
Is there a reason for this? I would think that it should cache these unzipped modules so it doesn't take up a full core for a minute every boot, but I could be wrong, since I can't find any reference to this anywhere online...

I haven't done anything custom that I know of - installed fresh around 2 years ago and have kept it updated since, (through the migration from sysv to systemd, sysvinit is completely gone now and the -compat package has been removed) everything through pacman (yaourt) and a few through AUR (like dropbox and skype at one point, though skype is gone now). I have to use OSS for sound because of the chipset (alsa doesn't find the headphone jack), and that likes to compile itself after an update, but I expected that.
Where could I find what is making this happen? In the startup manager for xfce4 the only auto-started applications are network manager applet, power manager, xscreensaver daemon, and policykit. I don't save sessions between boots, so nothing extra starts from there. Nothing is started in the .xinitrc besides startxfce4. In /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants there's acpid.service, dcron.service, laptop-mode.service, ModemManager.service, NetworkManager.serice, ntpd.serivice, oss.service, remote-fs.target, sshdgenkeys.service, sshd.service.
I guess this gets moved to newbie corner, because I'm clearly missing something...

JQuery UI Widget trying to insert into DW

Hello, I have just been trying for a long time to insert a new (jQuery) "tabs" widget into my DW CS6 via the import widget button, but DW will absolutely not let me.
THE ERROR MESSAGE BELOW IN THE WIDGET BROWSER:
There was an error importing the widget:
The file:///C:/Users/sara/Desktop/jquery-ui-1.11.0.custom.zip could not be unzipped. Make sure that this file is a valid Open Ajax Widget packaged by the Adobe Dreamweaver Widget Browser
Last year before all the updates (in CS6) I was able to insert a tabs widget from jQuery just fine, but now, so many problems!. When I select the widget .zip file to load I get the above error and after reading others messages i'm pretty sure its not jQuery, but DW who have disabled things to try and make me upgrade to CC. If this is the case how can I back roll to previous updates of dreamweaver?

Is there another way round this, i.e can I drop the .zip file wherever the widgets folder is location etc or has anyone found another way around the DW restrictions?

Hi Nancy, if Adobe has completely pulled the plug on the widget browser, then how do I now insert / load the widgets from the jQuery website? - I tried for a day, but cannot find a way.
The direct link you gave is what I am already trying to insert into DW (see my original message), to insert the tabs from jquery, you have to go to the theme roller to download it. (.zip file). How do I now get it on my .PHP page without the load widget that DW has disabled?
I have paid a lot of money for this software and really don't think its fair that an update can disable important things like this without warning. Is there somewhere where I can maybe download the widget installer, i.e the one I already paid for when I bought CS6 DW?

When I unzip widget apps, what file do I unzip them to inorder to install them on my nano?

You are right, widgets are for Apple Computers running Tiger (OS X 10.4) only.
In addition, Stephen, you are using a windows machine. Those widgets are not going to work with your system at all.

Cant get widgets to install

After downloading a shed load of widgets (radio players, chord finders etc) I cant get them to install on the dashboard after unpacking/unzipping them. I have OSX 10.4.7. so it should be fine in terms of OS but I have been told that as a PowerPC chip user, some may not work. However i've downloaded some from mid 2005 but still to no avail.
Any suggestions?

Hi Ben, usually they are .zip files. Just doubleclick to open and then drag the Widget to ~(yourHome)/Library/Widgets. If you have no "Widgets" folder in that location, create one.

Download Widgets for Dashboard right from AppStore

I think that it could be great that you can download widgets for dashboard right from the App Store on Mac OS X.
With this great feature Apple will boost the popularity of widgets because right now if you want to install a widget you need to download it, unzip it and then install it another time, then you will see the keep it advice or remove.
I love widgets and Apple need to do more about them, also by having a new section in the App Store only for Widgets there will be developers who will build better widgets and also you could pay for great widgets.
I will send this suggestion to the suggestion email from Apple.

Widget deployment to the endusers

I have created a widget which calls data from sap and displays it on the desktop with the help of yahoo widget.This development is done in Eclipse. Now i want it to make it available on endusers desktop. That means my enduser should have my executable program. How do i make it executable.

If you haven't figered it out by now:
Go to the folder with the .kon file, select everything and zip it up. Rename the *.zip to *.widget; you can then distribute it to users who have the foundation and widget engine installed.
There's also a widget converter widget available by Ricky Romero which might ease constant rezipping and unzipping the project to a .widget file.
I don't think it is possible to convert it to a .exe, but I suppose it's worth googling.
