Unzip Xtra for Mac

Hi All,
I am developing a hybrid application which receives updates
in ZIP from the web. Windows is no problem. I am using the bundled
Unzip Xtra in Director. The problem is that, the file and folder
names in the bundled updates, sometimes are more than 32 characters
long. As a result, the Unzip xtra on Mac will truncate the
file/folder names to under 32 characters thus ruining my updates. I
searched for an Unzipping xtra for Mac but could ot find any that
would allow for unzipping more than 32 character long file/folders.
Any ideas how do I proceed with this?
Thanks in advance.
Nitin.

Go with Luke's idea - baRunProgram on a Mac doesn't take
command line
arguments, although I'm not sure OS X comes with unzip - two
I just checked
didn't (OS X 10.3 and 10.4). Gzip is pretty much a certainty.

  • BaMoveCursor Xtra for Mac

Hello, I'm developing a game that uses the baMoveCursor Xtra,
and it works great in Shockwave on PCs, but I can't get it to work
on Macs (Intel/Mac). The Xtra just doesn't download and install
when testing the game on a Mac.
I know there is an authoring version of the baMoveCursor Xtra
for Mac, but is there a Shockwave version for Mac?

You need the split version for your Cross Platform Resources
    folder and
I'm not sure that Gary provides this.
Given that you eventually need to extract the hqx archive

  • Looking for the UnZip Xtra for the Mac

    Hi all,
I have an old PC-only application (MX2004) that now needs to be updated to a Mac. Everything seems to work fine except that I'm missing the UnZip Xtra on the Mac.
After an over 95 minute phone call to Adobe to confirm whether such a thing exists, the 8th person thereabouts was finally able to Google the same web pages I had already found. Apparently, no one in Adobe knows that they still sell/support "such an old product" (their words). I finally ended the call at Friday 5PM Eastern -- time to go home.(BTW, in times like these, its great to have a phone system that displays a call's duration!!)
If its true that it exists, how can I get my hands on this Mac UnZip Xtra? Do I spend $1000 to purchase Mac Director? Does Adobe sell me the 100KB plug-in for the cost of the hour-and-a-half of my life wasted getting no definitive answer from them?
Does anybody out there have the inside track to an Adobe person who can give me a definitive answer and solution?
Note: at this point, I'm not really interested in re-programming the application. I'd rather plop in the Mac-equivalent plug-in, tweak, tell the customer to rename files to a 31-character limit (if that is needed), and ship the application.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Mike,
    Thanks for the quick response.
I was able to track down a Good Samaritan who passed along the Mac Unzip Xtra.
When adding the UnZip Xtra via Modify>>Movies>>Xtras, and without the Mac UnZip Xtra in the local Xtras folder, my application fails with a Script Error (probably at 'pZip = new (xtra "UnzipXtra")'.
When I include the UnZip Xtra in the local Xtras folder, no Script Error.
I have secondary problems of course. The file downloaded is now unzipping but the result is incorrect. It looks like the first alphabetical filename is longer than 31 characters. Mac Unzip truncates that name and refuses to properly unzip any of the other 14 files and 1 folder (some with names shorter than 31 characters).
Unless someone out there has some Mac UnZip-fu they can pass along, I'll do some further tests with shorter file and folder names and, if ok, encourage my Client to rejig his workflow.
    Thanks again,

I'm doing that cross-platform thing working on a PC. I

I believe I need the Buddy API Xtra for the Mac. But if I download

  • Xtra for windows

I am creating a project on mac to be viewed on windows

If you aren't using any 3rd party xtras and you're not
    creating a
Shockwave projector then publishing on a Mac for Windows
    should work
fine. But be sure to test it on Windows (perhaps under
    Parallels) when done.

  • .exe projector file for PC works fine, but extracted .hqx for Mac won't open when on CD

I'm using Flash MX, AS 2, Projector 6, working on a PC.
I saved two versions of my project -- one .exe for Windows and one .hqx for Mac.  The .exe works fine when burned onto a CD.  When opening the .hqx from a CD on a Mac, I got a message that the file is on a locked volume.  I discovered that the reason for this is that an .hqx is essentially a zipped file which has to be extracted, and when a file is extracted, the unzipped files are written onto the same location as the original.  When the original files are on a CD, Stuffit (Mac's zip extractor program) can't write onto that location.
[So if anyone at Adobe looks at these forum posts, let me say that I think its absolutely ridiculous that the Mac version of Flash's projector files have to be extracted in order to be viewed!]
To get around this problem, I saved the .hqx on my PC, put it on a portable hard drive and brought it over to a Mac (because Stuffit for PC converts it into an .exe for PC), and unzipped it.  When I'd test it on the portable hard drive or on a USB drive, the extracted file would work.  When I'd bring it back over to the PC and burn a CD with both versions on it, and then test that CD on the Mac, it wouldn't work.  Can anyone tell me why the extracted Mac version works on a hard drive, but not on a CD?  What do I have to do in order to make a Mac projector file work from a CD?

Windows uses the FAT file system, Macs use the HFS file system. The two are not compatible. If you save a Mac projector file on a FAT file system, it won't be saved properly and it won't work. When you create a Mac projector from a Windows version of Flash, the file will be saved as a compressed .hqx file.
Since you need to use a Mac to create a hybrid CD, when you move that .hqx file to the Mac, unstuff it and then use the resulting file for the CD. It will then run from the CD as expected.

  • Any applications that can make a Pages document open in MS Office for Mac?

I purchased MS Office for Mac and stupidly deleted Pages from my Macbook. I don't have the Mac OS installation disk, and was wondering if there is a utility to open a Pages document?
    Thanks for any help.

Basically, none. You can either unzip it or reveal its package contents and then pick out pieces of the document, but this won't preserve formatting.

  • How do I create and send a zip file? I have Lion and I'm working in Word for mac

To show you how little I know about any of this, I don't even know if this is the correct forum in which to ask this question. I'm a copywriter. I have a client in France. I have 15 word documents, 15 of the same documents in PDFs and a small Excel document to send him. Simple, mutlipage Word docs. Short two-page Excell sheet. I want to create a zip file for them to send to him. Can I do it? How? I have unzipped zip files other people have sent to me, but I've never created or sent one myself. I'm working in Word for Mac 2011. I have Lion. I'm using Mac's email. Please don't assume I know anything. I need very, very simple, play by play instructions. You are all very helpful, so I have high hopes.

You will be able to both zip and unzip. If the recipient of your zipped file does not have zip, he/she will need to get it, or you could send him/her the above address so that he/she can unzip his/her file.
(I wish the English language could settle on the use of something less clumsy that he/she him/her etc.)
BTW, I think that you can zip only folders, not separate files, so put even one file into a folder before zipping).

  • EFilm Lite for Mac OS X or a freeware third party viewer to view DICOM medical images?

    Hello.
Does anyone know if there is an eFilm Lite software for Mac OS X (10.5.8 and 10.8.4)? One of the medical doctors gave my client a burned CD with scanned X-rays, but we were unable to read the encrypted(?) 522 KB DCIM X-Ray image(?) files [Terminal showed "file IM000000" showed "IM000000: DICOM medical imaging data" and none of Windows, Mac, and Linux can view them] and run Windows software (want to avoid installing Windows dual boot and running a virtual machine to make things more complex for him).
I was unable to find any Mac downloads on http://www.merge.com/ web site (e-mailed [email protected] and currently waiting for a reply/response [probably not until next regular short USA work week], but probably won't get a good answer).
    Thank you in advance.

  • Bridge for Mac by Sony

    Dear Members,
I am not sure whether this question is appropriate in this section.  Still, I would like to get the expert answer for my annoying issues.
I bought a Sony Xperia Z mobile phone a couple of days back.  I installed Bridge for Mac, which is an exclusive interface application for sync iTunes, iPhoto etc.  Ever since I installed as instructed by Sony website, whenever I run this app, it ***** all the memory and my computer stalls.  Initially the speed of my computer is OK and after a few minutes, the beach ball revolves and i could do nothing about it.  I searched in different Sony Mobile forums and elsewhere in internet.  I could just read about the similar complaints.  But, according to sony cunstomer care replies, for those queiries, they claim it works fine with them.  I dont understand.  I removed this app and re installed.  if there is any suggestion regard to Mac settings, I would welcome and follow the instructions.  Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
First of all you need to turn off the phone:
Press and hold "Power Button" and "Volume Up" at the same time for 10 seconds (until you feel 3 vibrations) = Force shutdown.
Then charge the battery for at least an hour.
    After that follow these steps:
"The phone should not be connected to the MAC.
    The phone should be off.
After the Download unzip the file and drag the bridge for MAC icon to the Applications folder. (install then use finder to locate icon)

can anybody help me, please? I'm asked whether I want to download and install or not. But the YES button does not work.
tried with different browsers but I cannot install.
    adrian

    Hey Adrian_O,
It may be that security is blocking the download, so I suggest downloading Digital Editions first and then installing from there. Check out the kb doc below, it has links for manual downloads of Digital Editions for both Intel-based Mac and PowerPC Macs.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403051.html
    For your convenience;
Manually install Adobe Digital Editions for Mac OS
Finish installing or uninstalling any other applications.
Uninstall any earlier versions of Adobe Digital Editions.
Download the installer package for your Mac OS X machine:
Intel-based Mac: Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2 for Intel-based Mac
Mac PPC: Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2 for Mac PPC
Note: If you clicked the wrong Mac  OS X platform, an error message appears. Close the message box and click  the correct link to restart the installation.
Click Open in the File Download screen to start the installation.
Note: If your connection times out, click Save, instead of Open, to save the installer package to your desktop.
If necessary, unzip the .zip file. If you're using Safari as your  browser, or if Firefox is set up to unzip files, the file unzips  automatically.
Double-click the .pkg file to start the installer, and follow the onscreen instructions.
Note: If your connection times  out, save the installer package to your desktop. (Click the link for  your Mac OS X machine, and then click Save.) Double-click the file to  start the installation.

    *Mac OSX and Viruses*
There are currently no real viruses that affect OS X users. There are very small number of things that can cause virus-like behavior that can affect Macs under special circumstances. These are:
    1) [AppleScript, ASthtv05|http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/06/23/mac_trojan>
    2) DNSChanger Trojan [http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/trojanosxdnschanger.shtml]
    From MacWorld, January 10, 2008:
SecureMac has introduced a free Trojan Detection Tool for Mac OS X. It's available here:
The DNSChanger Removal Tool detects and removes spyware targeting Mac OS X. Called DNSChanger Trojan and also known as OSX.RSPlug. A Trojan Horse the software attacks users attempting to play a fake video file.
Upon attempting to play the video, the victim receives the following message:
“Quicktime Player is unable to play movie file.

Please click here to download new version of codec.”
Upon running the installer, the user's DNS records are modified, redirecting incoming internet traffic through the attacker's servers, where it can be hijacked and injected with malicious websites and pornographic advertisements. The trojan also installs a watchdog process that ensures the victim's DNS records stay modified on a minute-by-minute basis.
SecureMac's DNSChanger Removal Tool allows users to check to see if the trojan has been installed on their computer; if it has, the software helps to identify and remove the offending file. After a system reboot, the users' DNS records will be repaired.
There may be other ways of guarding against Trojans, viruses and general malware affecting the Mac. A white paper has recently been published on the subject by SubRosaSoft, available [here|http://www.macforensicslab.com/ProductsAndServices/index.php?mainpage=document_general_info&cPath=11&productsid=174]
    3) MacSweeper:
    From [Wikipedia|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacSweeper]:
MacSweeper is malware that misleads users by exaggerating reports about spyware, adware or viruses on their computer. It is the first known "rogue" application for the Mac OS X operating system. The software was discovered by F-Secure, a Finland based computer security software company on January 17, 2008
    4) MS Office Macro viruses:
An exception to the "no viruses" is the possibility a macro virus could be present in an Office document and you could help breed that virus if you execute an Office macro. I have my default on Office to run no macros, and always check what the macro will do before I run one (never had to in 10 years of using Office).
    5) It is possible to transfer a Windows virus to a Windows machine via a Mac if you copy the infected file and pass it on. [ClamXav|http://www.clamxav.com> is a free, open source virus scanner for Mac OS X that is designed to scan files that you will be sharing with Windows users to assist in making sure you don't pass on viruses to them.
    6) Some people have had virus-like behavior appear on web pages due to a service (DNS) supplied by their ISP having a security vulnerability. This isn't your computer but your ISP. Nonetheless, it is a security risk. If you experience strange page behavior (e.g., ads for things on sites where you wouldn't expect those kind of ads) try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Click Apply. This is an alternate site for DNS which is patched against the vulnerability.
    7) If you are using an Intel Mac and run Windows on that computer (or run Windows on a PPC Mac with VirtualPC) you are subject to all the viruses that affect the PC world and should take all the precautions that a PC user would.

  • Need v11.5 Xtras for e-mail, saving list variables

    Hi all,
I'm working on a new DVD project that needs to run on the latest Windows and Mac platforms, but am having trouble finding Xtras that have been updated for Director 11.5 and have been recompiled for Intel-based Macs.
Specifically, I am looking for Xtras with these features:
    1. Ability to send e-mails. DirectEMail appears to be the most-recommended, but the newest version I see is dated 2004. StarSoft has an Xtra that only lists Windows platforms as compatible. Is there anything good out there for Director 11.5 for both platforms?
    2. Ability to save/retrieve Lingo variables (specifically lists) to/from a disk file. I've looked at both PropSave (appears to be very outdated - 2002?) and vList (newest version is 11.5-compatible, but appears to be discontinued - no obvious way to order from their web site). Can anyone suggest anything?
    Many thanks in advance!
