Up Next feature on iOS devices

I've noticed how on my iTunes library on my iMac I can do "play next" for songs and "add to up next". I feel like my iPhone and iPad are fully capable of this feature because they have it in the remote application when controlling the iTunes library on my iMac. Am I just missing out and it is already available, or am I the only one who truly wants this feature for my mobile devices and it's not real?

I can´t belive that no one here is running a Mail server on Lion server that is accessable with imap using iOS devices!  Is mail server on Lion really that bad?

You are correct.  However, a document can not be opened by another computer unless the document has first been open by an iDevice.
iwork on iOS uses different file formats ( *.tef ) then iwork09 on Mac ( *.key , *. number , *.page ).
Uploaded documents to icloud.com must first be updated to the *.tef format and then re-written to the cloud system. The online service behind the iwork web-app does the re-conversion to Mac formats, pdf or Microsoft office. All that is happening "in the cloud", not on your Mac as he misses the engine to do the transcoding from the *.tef to the other formats. Mac simply does not know what *.tef is.

  • CS6: New feature doesn't work: Publish direct to iOS device

Just upgraded to Flash CS6 v12.0.2.  It has a new feature, in File > AIR 3.2 For iOS Settings > Deployment tab > "Install Application On The Connected iOS Device."
This feature is disabled.  Does anyone know how to get it enabled?
I do have iTunes installed, per http://helpx.adobe.com/flash/using/packaging-applications-air-ios.html#id_91536 .

i've not seen this problem before so i suspect the issue is an os problem or usb port problem.  i would be especially suspicous of an usb port issue if the problem is intermittant.
have your tried a different usb port?
once your iOS device is recognized by win explorer AND you leave it connected, does win explorer ever fail to continue recognizing your iOS device is connected?

  • ICloud feature that diverts messages and synchronises contacts on another IOS device?

    Hi there,
I've managed to work out how contacts are synchronised to and back from the cloud on individual IOS devices but my question now is which iCloud feature diverts messages and synchronises contacts from one IOS device to another i.e. an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4S which both have sim cards and have 2 different numbers but are on the same tariff.
Lastly doesn't iTunes backup up messages and ringtones?
Your help would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,

    Hi William Rivas,
Thank you for responding to my thread, the information in your post was very helpful but I thought I would eleborate on it in order to fully answer my questions.
Family Sharing - https://www.apple.com/uk/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/ - Could this also be a possibly as to why messages are being received on both devices as well as the new iCloud Drive?
iTunes: About iOS backups - I found that iTunes does backup messages but doesn't backup ringtones and thought that the older models of iPhones and iPads wouldn't support the restoration of messages from an iTunes backup.
Please could you clarify for me.
    Kind regards,
    RocknRollTim
I backup to computer (Mac) this makes a full backup of the device and restores all data. Messages and Ringtones included. If you are using the SAME iCloud account on both devices and signed into iMessage with the same iCloud account or same Apple ID, messages will go to both devices. Had this issue as well. Individual iCloud accounts or Apple ID's must be used on individual devices to only get iMessages sent to that person. Family Sharing lets you share Calendars Pictures and other features shown here:
    http://www.imore.com/how-use-family-sharing-itunes-and-app-store-accounts-ios-8
So to isolate iMessages to a particular device an individual account MUST be used or messages will go to each device while logged in with the same iCloud account or Apple ID..
I hope this makes sense. Please reply if you need more info.
    Good luck

  • HT1947 "Up next" feature makes a mess out of controlling what the heck is played using the iOS remote app.

Tell me if I am wrong, but it seems to me that the "Up next" feature makes a mess out of controlling what the heck is played through the Apple TV using the iOS remote app.  The whole thing seem uber-anti-intuitive.  I am a long time user (as much and anyone is long time for any of this stuff) of the iOS remote app, and ATV to play music though a stereo system.  Up to a couple of weeks ago, I could sit in my chair, start the iPhone remote app, pick a playlist and either start from the beginning, or if the first track didn't grab me at that moment, go ahead and switch to, say, track 6 -- the whole playlist would "sit there" and be available for further browsing.  With the new system, if I hit a playlist the songs will go into "Up Next".  If as I described in the last sentence, the first song is not getting it for me, and I switch to track 6 , the "Up Next" list is lopped off and only tracks 7 onward will be shown.  I can't go back and browse the first 5 tracks (6 actually) -- they're vaporized.  The idea of browsing your own music has been killed; I guess this "Up Next" concept is for folks who like maybe a couple of dozen songs that are picked from different places and want to play them in different orders of something -- it just seems like a crummy idea.  If under the scenario I described I want to go back and play that first (or second through fifth) song on the original playlist, I have to go out and fish it out of the library somehow and just keep messing around and around.  There have been times when I didn't know what the heck was going to come out of the speakers.  It seems like the remote user has not been considered in the "dramatically improved" iTunes 11", with the "cleaner user interface" .  To me it is "dramatically akin to dog-doo", which, of course is not cleaner than much of anything.  If I can't get this working decently, then I'm really thinking of investigating some other type of system like DLNA.  Any suggestions?

Same problem here.  I have so many problems with this remote app.  Is there an iTunes API? I would like to write my own remote app that actually works.

  • TS4124 What causes iTunes Match, on an iOS device, to lose the cloud icon next to each song?

What causes iTunes Match, on an iOS device, to lose the cloud icon next to each song. On my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S one cloud shows up for a whole album to tap and download a whole album but the ones next to the songs are no longer there. No songs will delete from my phone once downloaded from the cloud by sliding my finger to the left over the song and tapping delete. Instead it just plays the song when I try to delete it. To delete my music from my device I have to go in to settings and delete all the music. This worked fine for the first week and then one day the cloud status next to each undownloaded song disappeared and started doing this.

Try sync Music from iTune to your iPad again.

I do not own neither a Mac nor an iOS devices. May I still be able to use all features of Time Capsule, including remote access over the internet?

You will have setup issues.. as the latest AC model requires a Mac or iOS device.. eventually apple will release a windows version of the utility.. and the current one does partly work but Apple seem in no hurry.
You can find a Mac or iPad equipped friend to do the setup.. once setup the Windows computer can use it.
BUTT you cannot access it from remote..
Not with windows. You need BTMM and iCloud account. AFAIK even with those you cannot reach the TC.
You can do it manually.. using a vpn. Buy a proper vpn router and use a vpn client on the windows computer.. the TC would be in bridge to the network..
Apple really did not make this for windows.. and SMB access is only provided on LAN access not WAN.

  • Best way to sync Numbers to iOS device?

Is there a way to sync Numbers between a Mac and iOS device that you can update on either platform and have the update sync'ed?
iCloud: have to always upload from Mac to icloud.com - useless
iTunes: save on Mac then sync to iPhone - saved version does not sync.  Can't sync back to Mac
I know WebDAV is an option but I'd like to also sync when I'm away from my home network.  Dropbox would be great but Numbers doesn't integrate with it.

    Unless Apple decides to:
    A) make the syncronization happen seamless between the two programs/OS's autmatically through iCloud in the next update to iWork
    B) includes DropBox support in a future update of iWork for iOS
    C) Create a better only Google Docs/Microsoft Office Live feature for their Documents in the Cloud feature...
...You're pretty much stuck.  I had this same problem when editing Powerpoint documents with Keynote for iOS.  You could, however, use another office tool that can sync with Dropbox.  This is presuming your not working with files saved in the numbers extension, but are instead working with documents saved as Excel or Open Spreadsheet files.  I like CloudOn, which is a streaming over the Internet version of Microsoft Office.  You might alos look at CloudOn.
    Sorry

  • How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes?

How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes? I wanted my teenager's AppleID to be different from mine so that she couldn't charge stuff to my AppleID, therefore I created me another one. Now when I go to Sync either device, it tells me that this IOS device can only be synced with one AppleID. Then I get a message to erase it, not going to do that, lol. If I logout as one ID and login as the other, will it still retain all synced information on the PC from the first IOS device? If I can just log in out of the AppleID, then I have no problem doing that as long as the synced apps, music, etc stays there for both. I am not trying to copy from one to the other, just want to make sure I have a backup for the UhOh times. If logging in and out on the same PC of multiple AppleIDs is acceptible then I need to be able to authorize the PC for both devices. Thanks for the help. I am new to the iOS world.

    "Method Three
Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.
This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

  • Using small iOS device to give presentations?

I am considering buying a refurbished iPod Touch from Apple to (1: replace my aging iPod, (2: allow mobile access to the internet, and (3: to facilitate delivery of business presentations while on-the-road. To wit:
As you can see from the listings below, I have access to useful hardware and software. I am writing this to seek advice on how to leverage these tools to give business (and personal) presentations while I'm on-the-road and may (or may not) be carrying hardware with me. If I'm forced to travel light, I was wondering if simply taking a thumb drive and/or using my iCloud account may be enough.
I work for a small construction business that does projects in eight surrounding counties. I work as a "Producer", which means I'm both an office manager (writing up contracts and job estimates, arranging business with customers, contractors and suppliers over-the-phone) and a project manager (working with those same business contacts in-person on remote project sites). I am also applying for work outside of our business, and want to be able to use visual aids if/when necessary to illustrate what I do during an interview.
I recently started taking a Lynda.com course on "Setting Up Your Mobile Office to Work from Anywhere", and it got me to thinking about how I could use iCloud and Apple's iWork apps to create business presentations that could be played in a variety of portable scenarios. My goal is to be able to travel light and still be able to make presentations to individuals or groups.
MY CURRENT PERSONAL/BUSINESS HARDWARE & SOFTWARE
iMac 13,1 : late-2012 slimline model, 2.9 GHz Core i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB hard disk, USB SuperDrive
    MacOS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
    iLife 2011 (including iPhoto 9.2.3)
iWork 2009 (including Keynote 5.3, Pages 4.3, and Numbers 2.3)
    Microsoft Office 2011: Mac
Final Cut Studio 3, including Final Cut Pro 7
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 8
    iCloud account, free-tier service
    DSL high-speed connection to internet
Have been shooting digital photos since November, 2001; manages iPhoto library of over 52,000 images
    OTHER HARDWARE AVAILABLE
white MacBook 2006 vintage, 1.83 GHz Intel processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB hard disk, SuperDrive, MacOS 10.6.8, iLife 2011, iWork 2009, Microsoft Office 2011 (MacBook is not my machine; used by someone else in my office. This computer has battery issues; it must be plugged into AC power.)
Epson EX7200 projector, with USB thumb-drive port (for JPEG presentations), VGA port, and HDMI port.
Scenario #1: If I prepared a Keynote presentation on my iMac and transferred it via WiFi or thumb drive to the old MacBook, do I need to copy just a single Keynote file over and that's it? No attached files or folders with files in them?
Scenario #2: I have successfully, in the past, used the Epson projector and a thumb drive loaded with photos and also a USB camera card reader with an SD card attached to show simple JPEG photo slideshows. If I wanted to just use the Epson's USB port to show Keynote slideshows, they would have to be stored in folders as JPEG files. How easy is this to prepare with Keynote? Are there any pointers available on designing a useful workflow for preparing such slideshows without a lot of fuss?
Scenario #3: Forget the projector; too much bulk. If I had just a small iOS device like an iPod touch, and I wanted to plug into someone else's projector (or if I wanted to just show a slideshow of images to one person with no projector) what do I need to be prepared for, hardware-wise? What do I need to do with Keynote, both on the iMac for production and on the iOS device to make it look right?
Scenario #4: Let's say I'm going to carry everything on a USB thumb drive as a backup. What is the best way to set it up to play on someone else's hardware? (I assume three tiers of compatibility: I do network with Mac/iOS users, so Tier #1 would be Apple compatibility with Keynote. Tier #2 would be general compatibility with Microsoft Office 2003/4 for pre-XML file formats. I guess that Tier #3 would be general-purpose PDF files, or maybe the JPEG file approach with thumb drive ports on projectors.) If I'm doing Tier #1 and I'm plugging my thumb drive into someone else's MacBook, are there any pointers to avoid font conflicts or other issues? If I'm doing Tier #1 and I'm borrowing someone else's iPad to show a slideshow, how do I get the files off of a thumb drive to show on the iPad?
Scenario #5: ** iCloud ** Let's say I'm traveling VERY light, and I want to give a presentation that's stored on my Apple iCloud account. How can I organize files and folders so that Tier #1, #2 and #3 files are available (assuming I have an internet connection) so I can play a presentation off someone else's hardware, be it a tablet or laptop. Is there anything I should know about how to prepare this and how to reliably be able to log-in and access my iCloud files? Are my iWork 2009 apps going to function in preparing and saving presentation files with my iCloud account?
Scenario #6: Scenario #6 is Scenario #5, but substituting another service instead of iCloud, like maybe Google Drive. Is there any way to set up an account with files so I can reliably be able to access said files for a presentation?

    - For #1 post in the iWorks for Mac form. My only concern is the older version of Keynote on the MacBook reading the files from the newer version of Keynote used to create the presentation.
    - For #2 it depends upon the projector. Form you description, the projector can only read/present photos on a thumb drive. Keynote will do nothing for that.
    - For #3 depending upon the model iPod you can get an adopter cable that connect to projector/TV
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4108
You can post in the iWoks for iOS forum for more help. Note that some feature in Keynoted prepared on a Mac will not oresent exactly like made when present in Keynote on an iOS device
    - For #4 post in the iWorks for Mac forum
    - For # 5 post in the iWorks for iOS forum
    - For #6 posting in a Google forum may be best

  • Photos taken from iOS device not showing up on Macbook??????

I have photo streaming turned "ON" on my iPhone 5, iPad Air and Macbook Pro. For some reason or another I have been having problems getting the pictures to show up on my Mac. The only time I need for this to happen automatically is when I am listing on eBay. For example I took a picture of the item that I want to list from my iPhone 5. Within a few minutes the picture shows up my iPad Air. I am using my Macbook Pro to list the items. It took over an hour for one picture to come over. I called Apple and without having a device that is under the 1 year contract or Applecare they push this support forum on you or pay $19.95 for them to walk you through it.
Before anyone replies, I have made sure that I am signed in under my apple ID on all three devices and have photo stream selected as well. All of my devices are updated to the latest software. Being that I am having problems with my Mac it is version 10.9.4 running Mavericks. If anyone has any definite answers to this problem I am having I would appreciate all the advice I can get.

No offense, but there are not definitive answers when it comes to iCloud.
    Reset iCloud.
On your iOS devices, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos then switch Photo Stream off then back on.
On your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Photos then reselect it.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data.

  • How do I sync travel time from iCal to calendar on an iOS device?

Hi, I really like the feature travel time in iCal. Unfortunale it only works great on the Mac. Therefor I only get the correct time when to leave when I am at home.
    I have an example:
I made an apointment that is 2 hours and 3 minutes travel time away on my iMac. This is actually transferred to my iPhone correctly.
I also added an apointment with a lication in the same city. On the iMac it shows me that I will need 8 minutes from the first meeting to the second apointment and that it will remind me in time to leave. Everything seems fine. But when I look in calendar on my iPhone it will remind me 1 hour and 8 minutes before the meeting starts. That does not make any sense.
I thought that maybe iOS calendar adds the usual time set to remind me and adds the driving time. This is not the case since the usuall time is set to two hours. On the iMac the usuall time to remember me is set to one hour. It is probbably coming from here that it adds the hour but it does not make sense.
Does anynbody know how to use the travel time funktion properly for all devices?
I am also lokking for a way to set the reminder to travel time plus X minutes. It would make sence to get reminded when to get ready and not when you sit at your desk and are actually supposed to get out of the house...

    Ok, I found the answer.
iCal will push the travel time plus the standard reminder time to the iOS device. So I set the standard remeinder to 10 minutes and I know whenever I am reminded that I have 10 minutes to get going. We can only hope that Apple will work some kinks out of this feature and we will be able to set a standard reminder for all appointments with travel time like "Leave in 30 minutes" to finish up what your doing or wrap up a meeting and then "leave in 5 minutes" to really get going. If you have the same issue write to apple.com/feedback. Maybe they will work on it if the get more feedbacks...

  • Syncing notes, highlights, and bookmarks between iOS devices

    Hi,
I've decided to digitize my technical library by purchasing ebooks from now on. The problem is which ebook format to go with. My ideal requirements would be to be able to purchase books from various sources and be able to read them both on my Mac and on iOS devices. Additionally, I want to be able to sync the highlights, bookmarks, and notes among all of these devices.
Currently, the real winner that satisfy all of these conditions is Amazon mobi format. The only problem is that I can only purchase books from Amazon if you go with this platform.
On the other hand, Apple iBooks is a close second here - the lack of a solution for a Mac is a problem, but I am hoping that Apple is working on the iBooks application for the Mac. The syncking of notes, highlights, and bookmarks among various iOS devices is a nice feature, and it does not require a tethered connection to iTunes - instead, these items they can now sync wirelessly among devices on the same iTunes account.
My question is if the syncing of notes, highlights, and bookmarks works only with ePub books purchased from the Apple's iBooks store or if this feature works with unprotected ePub books purchased elsewhere and loaded on iOS devices via the iTunes syncing feature. For example, most of the technical books I am going to be digitizing are Cisco books published by Cisco Press. As of late, most of their ebooks are available in the unprotected ePub format, and I would be using the iBooks app to read these books. So, if I were to purchase ebooks from Cisco Press, would I be able to to make a note in a book on one iOS device (e.g. iPad), and later see this note in the same book on my iPhone?
    Thanks!

This page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4059 says (I havn't tried it though) :
iBooks will automatically remember where you left off each time you close a book or return to your Home screen. Tap the bookmark icon in the upper-right corner to bookmark a specific page. Wirelessly sync your Bookmarks, Highlights, and Notes with your other devices using your iTunes Store account by tapping Settings > iBooks > Sync Bookmarks > ON.

  • Looking for a good document on family syncing with iCloud and multiple iOS devices

We have recently migrated off of Android devices for the whole family except for a Kindle Fire HD for my daughter.  We all have an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch type device that we want to sync our family calendars/reminders/notes to.  Is there a good document on how to setup this family environment so that our notes/reminders/appointments are all in sync on each other's device. That way we all know what each other is doing. Do we each have to have a separate Apple ID or do we all share the same Apple ID to make this syncing work.  I think I get how to make this work between my PC, 2 - iPhones (work and personal) and iCloud Web.  Now how do I layer on my other family members into my calendar digital Cloud?  HELP ME PLEASE.  I HAVE A DIGITAL MESS.
Right now I have a personal Apple ID for my personal devices, new iPhone 6 Plus coming.  I have a separate Apple ID for my Work iPhone 4s.  My wife and kids have iPhone 5s.  Wife and son have an iPad.
Please tell me I don't have to go see Rush Limbaugh to figure out how to make all this work.
    Thanks,
    Bob

You could each have separate iCloud accounts with separate IDs, and also share a "family" account for syncing a family calendar, notes and reminders.  That will allow you to maintain still keep your contacts, and other data and photo streams separated while having access to the shared the family data in the secondary account.  It also gives everyone their own free 5GB of storage for their backups, etc.  The shared family calendar, notes and reminders will appear alongside your other calendars, notes and reminders in the corresponding apps on your devices.  You'll just need to be sure to select the correct account within these apps when entering data to ensure it is added to either your personal or the shared family account.
To do this, create your primary accounts in the usual way, by going to Settings>iCloud and signing in with separate IDs and turn on the data sets you want to sync with iCloud.  Then create a secondary account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud and signing in with a different ID and have everyone add this account to their devices as a shared family account.  You can sync mail, contacts, calendars, notes and reminders with the secondary account, although you may want to just turn on calendars, notes and reminders.
You can continue to share the same iTunes store ID on all devices if you wish.  It does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.  Also, each person should use their own ID (such as the primary iCloud ID) for iMessage and FaceTime, otherwise you'll end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.
If you don't want to do all of this, and are primarily concerned about sharing your calendars, you can do that as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a8694.
Another option to consider is to look into the new Family Sharing feature of iOS 8 if all of your devices will support iOS 8: https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/.  The details on this haven't been released yet but should start to appear after it is released tomorrow.
