UPC label removed. Warranty voided?!

Hello everyone!
I guess this is not the right place for this topic but i couldn't find a better one.
A month ago I bought a MacBook Pro and an iPod and I participated in the back-to-school program. Therefor I had to send both UPC labels of the MacBook Pro and the iPod to Apple. The UPC label contains (beside other numbers) the serial number. Today I read through the warranty rules of apple and one part made me wonder:
"This warranty does not apply: (...) (f) if any Apple serial number has been removed or defaced."
The full version can be found here (for iPod and iSight):
http://images.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/ipodisight.pdf
for other products (such as MacBook Pro):
http://images.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/cpuwarranty.pdf
Does that mean I voided my warranty by removing the UPC labels of my MacBook Pro and iPod? Just to participate in the back-to-school program? I don't hope so...
I would be very happy if anyone of you could tell me that I'm wrong.
Guido

Pretty sure that the Serial #'s in question are the physical ones attaced to the machines. (For laptops, I think they are inside the RAM "hatch".)
Regardless, removing the UPC from the box will NOT void your warranty.

  • Warranty void due to multiple dents on edges?

currently my ipad display distorted as it still have 6 months warranty so i send in for repair.
but they said can't repair only replacement.
Now they said can't replace it as it has many dents on edges so warranty voided.
that not fair i just bought it for 6 month and the dents were already there for since first month i bought.
so the distortion wasn't caused by the dents.
    Does anyone encounter such problem?

Some not insignificant physical trauma caused those dents, and Apple cannot just take your word that the dents didn't cause your problem.  Especially since the duration of time between the denting and the problem doesn't mean a darn thing.  I once dropped a MacBook Pro on the floor and, despite a big dent, it worked fine...  For a month, then the logic board finally failed.  Following physical trauma, problems can crop up at a later date, they don't have to occur right away.

  • Warranty void stick

    Hi,
I just purchased my creative zen touch a matter of hours ago. it has finished its first charge and i have gotten a few songs uploaded. However, i recently discovered that the warranty void sticker on the bottom of the device is now half covering the front and back sections. It is on the back cover only but there are symbols etched into it.
The packaging was fine. it was sealed and brand new.
Could someone shed some light on my confusion?
    Thanks

Sounds like a question only Creative Support can answer, and there's no guarantee you'll get an answer from them here (as per the disclaimer at the top of the forum).

  • Warranty void on Apple engraved products?

Can anyone help me? I'm thinking about buying a 3rd Gen Nano from the online Apple store for my daughter for Christmas and getting it engraved, but I've been informed recently that if I have it engraved it will void the warranty, is this correct?
I have also read the limited warranty and nowhere does it say anything about deeming the warranty void if the iPod is engraved by them.
    Any advice welcome, thanks.

Engraving it does NOT void the warranty. (I presume you're talking about the engraving service that Apple offers? I don't know what would happen if you, say, had it engraved by a jeweler or did it yourself.)
What you can't do, if you order it engraved, is return it. So, if you're daughter doesn't like it, you're stuck with it. Unengraved, it could be returned within the standard return period (don't remember what that is. 14 days?).

  • Will installing a new operating system make the warranty void

I just bought a HP G3 200 Series 250 Core i3 from Indian online store. The current operating system is free DOS and i want to install windows 8 on it. Will that make my warranty void ?

Hi: Doing that will not void the hardware warranty but HP will not offer any software support if you install another operating system. Bear in mind that there are no W8 64 bit drivers for that model, so I suggest you upgrade to W8.1 after you install W8 or install W7 64 bit.

  • Apple steals my money - they lost my UPC label and no rebate!!!

I found a very bad attitude of Apple about rebate claims.
I bought MAcBook and Canon printer with perfect companion promotion.
Then, I sent UPC labels from the boxes.
They lost my UPC label (of course, they deny their fault) and then said no label and no rebate!
    I cannot believe this.
I have a copy of it, but it is also non-acceptable.
So, just lost claims and save lots of money from customers?
I'm thinking returning all of items from Apple.

I would have to disagree about the photocopies. You cannot send an original rebate request with photocopies it must be the original upcs. However, I sent in a Sony rebate that was somehow lost I contacted the company handling rebates for Sony and they asked me to send in copies of my rebate coupon, upcs, and sales receipts they were accepted as proof and I was issued my rebate. In some cases this can work, but I don't know about Apple in this case. You might want to try again and send a letter explaining your situation and enclose copies of all docs. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

  • Macbook Pro Glass replaced by 3rd party - warranty voided?

Hi, when i purchased my macbook pro (feburary 2011 model), after some months, i accidently cracked the glass infront of the screen.
As we all know, apple charges a ridiculous amount to get it replaced as from my understanding they replace the entire lid.
I also purchased the apple car protection plan when i bought the laptop.
I had the glass replaced by a professional store that specializes in this for aobut $150.
They just replaced the glass which was the only problem.
Is my applecare protection package and inital 1 year warranty voided?
Are there any markers the appl employees can tell that it has been replaced?
    Thanks in advanced!

It wasn't replaced by an authorized apple service center.
    Just by a repair shop.
The call support center is closed at the moment.
It would be very unfir if the $400 odd it costs for the protection plan to be voided only a year after the purchase making it completely a waste as it adds an extra 2 years after the first year.
So, do you think it would be voided since it wasn't done by an auth apple center?
The status of its warranty online says it is all in tact obviously, but if i brought it into the apple store if a problem
arised, and they open it up for repair or whatever, if nothing was damaged when the screen got replaced, is there anyway they could tell it was replaced?

  • UPC Label Location Mac Pro

    Hello,
I recently purchased a Mac Pro, and need the UPC label for a mail-in promotion. None of the labels on the box look like a UPC. Does anyone know where it is, or which part qualifies? There is a sticker with the Part No, Serial No, etc. but at the top it just has "IML/CID" and then a code which is definitely not a standard UPC. A UPC should be all numbers with a number offset on either side, but I can find no such code on the box. If anyone could help me, it would be much appreciated, as I would like to get this in the mail.
    Thanks,

  • Warranty void as installed new HDD, but I still have the orginal?

    Hello,
I have recently installed a new 200GB Hitachi HDD 7200rpm on my laptop, I know this will void my warranty, but as I still have the original HDD safe and sound, will the warranty still stand if say... the technicians were to come round to fix my laptop because of an unrelated issue, but see that the HDD was upgraded; will they still fix the laptop anyway after I show them the original? It's a long shot I know, but the 40GB HDD that came with the laptop only leaves me little room after installing Vista.
Has my upgrade TOTALLY nullified my claims to the warranty? Even if I just say... switch back and install the original HDD in my system just before the technicians come to my house? But wouldn't that be the same as if say...I just show the technician the original HDD upon their arrival while having the upgraded HDD inside the laptop.
A bit confusing I know, but I am in a dilemma, because the Toshiba guys are set come round my place to look at my laptop under the warranty, and I'm concerned that they will not fix my laptop because I upgraded to a better and faster HD.
Thank you, I hope someone replies.

    Hi Mohin
I would try to clarify your question.
The warranty will be canceled only, if you will disassemble the notebook.
I presume the notebook was equipped with an HDD slot at the bottom of the unit and you need to remove only one screw to remove the little HDD slot cover. Am I right?
So in such case the upgrade of parts like memory or the HDD will not avoid the warranty.
But its a good idea to keep the old HDD which were delivered together with the notebook.
    Best regards

    - Contact your seller about the warranty.
    - Contact your local MSI call center to know about the warranty:
    http://www.msi.com/page/service-location/
Not every seller can allow you to remove the bottom cover.

  • Sim Card Removal/Warranty

If I remove the SIM card will that void my warranty? Cause I don't want to bring the iPhone everywhere and I still have a perfectly working Treo.

No. Removing the SIM card is acceptable, and will not void the warranty.

  • Warranty void

I bought a zen v only two months ago and its already kicked the bucket and wont turn on or respond at all. I had since thrown out the box it came in. when i brought it back to the shop i bought it in with the receipt they told me they couldn't take it back because i didnt have the original packaging. I have everything that wasb included in the pack when i bought it except for the box itself. Could my warranty really be voidIt seems a little harsh to say the least

You could contact Customer Support directly instead. If the player is faulty, they can arrange a replacement or repair for you. The contact details are in the Support folder of the installation CD, or you can e-mail them through the links at the top of the page ( Contact Us -> Customer Support ).

  • Warranty void due to upgrade from WIndow 7 Home Prem to Window 7 Pro

Did somebody every heard of such a thing??? or had it been done to them?
I just called about a Hard Drive going out and the tech state that i voided my warranty by ugrading to Windows 7
Professions from Windows 7 Home Premien
that came as a surprise and a BIG **bleep**????
Why then lenovo sells windows or even do business with Microsoft!!!!!!

I can imagine, that might give Microsoft reason to have a puzzled frown at Lenovo ... thats sort of restricting their sales now that you have brought that up here.

  • Warranty Void plus extras

Hello every one, I need some answers regarding as to exactly what voids the warranty? I have Macbook pro retina display thats still under warranty but I got a dent from trying to plug in my hdmi cable. No joke, so I would assume this falls under faulty product more than accidental damage? Now my main concern is that my brother tried to open my mac and lost a few screws, does this mean my warranty is still intact? Nothing about the mac has really changed at all.
Lastly I have like 3 dead pixels, they're not so bad but should I just try to get them replaced anyway? Thank you for your time.

you'll have to do a lot of explaining to Apple as to why the screws are gone - Apple considers the Retina Macbook Pro and Macbook Air as a sealed unit which is not upgradeable - once you open the back - the warranty is out the window - unless you can convince them that the screws fell off by themselves.
dents usually doesn't void the warranty - have a dent in my Macbook Pro that's under warranty - had issues with my Macbook Pro (not caused by the dent) and was repaired.
the best thing to do is to take it to Apple to get a definite answer to your question.
good luck - hope you get it sorted out.

  • Warranty void after repair ?

    Dear other iPhone users,
Two weeks after taking possession of my iPhone 6 it fell out of my breast pocket flat on the ground, the screen shattered. I blamed myself, and went - here in Kenya where I live and bought the iPhone - to the Apple service repair centre at Elite Digital.
As they had offered a free insurance on the phone I 'only' had to fork out around 110 USD to repair the screen.
A week later I notice that the repair wasn't carried out correctly, the screen was loose and came out on the top, allowing water and dust ingress.
Back to the service centre where it came back 24 hours later apparently repaired.
The iOS 8.1.3. came out and during the update there was an error message (error 53 - very revealing !). I again had to get in touch with the staff at Elite Digital who let me know that this was a hardware issue and I had to send the phone over.
A day later I got the message indicating that as the phone had been broken the warranty was void and that therefore they wouldn't replace the phone free of charge, but that the above-mentioned insurance would cover but that I had to fork out AGAIN 110 USD.
Now, as the repair was done at an authorised repair centre I expect the warranty not void. It's not because the screen was broken, badly repaired, repaired again, that the warranty of the phone isn't valid anymore - at least, that is my understanding of things.
Thanks for your feedback and view of this message. The supplier is dragging its feet and unwilling to replace the phone which, according to him, indeed has a hardware problem but now seems to say that this is my fault.
    Thanks for your feedback,
    Cedric

This is a user-to-user technical support forum. I don't see that there's anything that fellow users could do here. If you want to take the matter up with Apple, use the Contact Us link at the bottom right of every page for information on how to do that.
    Best of luck.
