Update 10.1.4 on MacBook Air

When attempting update the Updater keeps asking for me to close Adobe Reader.app
Nothing is open - update won't proceed.
Help please

You do not need the Lion 10.7.5 update. Just download and install Mavericks 10.9.2 direct from the App Store and install it over the top of your current version of Lion.
And don't forget to make a full backup of your system before upgrading.
Cheers
Pete

  • HT1338 I'm unable to update any software on my macbook air and iMac

I'm unable to update any software on my macbook air and iMac getting the following error "to update your software you need to sign in with the account you used to purchase it" any help is appreciated

Please try each of the following steps you haven't already taken, until the issue is resolved. After each step, relaunch the App Store and try again.
    1. Follow the instructions in the Apple Support article linked below:
Mac App Store: Cannot update App Store purchases or updates do not seem available
    2. If any App Store purchases were made under a different Apple ID, or if the bundled iLife applications were accepted under a different ID, sign in to the App Store with that ID to update.
    3. Alternatively, delete the probem applications and re-download them with the ID you're using now. If you haven't already purchased them with that ID, you'll have to do that first, because purchases can't be transferred from one account to another.
    4. Select the Purchased tab in the App Store window. If you see an item in the list marked "You have 3 apps to accept," click Accept.
    5. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window may open with a file selected. If it does, delete the selected file. You may be prompted for your login password.
    Then repeat step 4.
    6. Select
    Store ▹ View My Account
from the App Store menu bar, then select View hidden purchases. If you're trying to update any hidden purchases, unhide them.
    7. Launch iTunes and select
    Store ▹ Authorize This Computer
    from the menu bar.
    8. If you've moved any App Store apps out of the applications folder, or into a subfolder, put them back. Never move or copy those applications.

  • Why can't I update bootcamp software on my Macbook Air 2013?

I'm running windows 8 on my 13" macbook air 2013. Apple sent me a notification of updated bootcamp support software and directions for installation. This web page included a list of the models that are supported by this software and mine is one of them. When I began installing this support software an error message said my computer model isn't supported. I called apple care and they told me it isn't their responsibility to supply windows drivers for people running bootcamp. This sounds fishy and completely wrong. Can someone help, please?

Can you go back and post the web page and actual details (drivers, versions, etc)?
Are you trying to update in Windows and from the Apple Software Update application? manually downloading in Windows? you can use either.
Yes, very fishy. Use to be even worse I think with just how well they are ready to answer and help with Windows on Mac topic.
Use to be the old support pages were to me easy to see and find updates and tech support articles but you can still try there for both your Mac, firmware and model specific, and for Boot Camp.
Also when Mac OS X gets updated, often you download new drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant, too, a 3rd method.
Wasn't clear which method was used.

  • I am having problems updating my iPhoto on my MacBook Air, please help?

I started to update iPhoto on my MacBook Air, but I had bad wifi at home so I paused it. But now that I have good and fast wifi, I press Resume and it asks for my apple ID, so I put it, but then it says that the connection failed, can someone please help!

    Back up all data.
Quit the App Store application if it's running. Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it, then drag or copy it — do not type — into the Terminal window:
    open $TMPDIR../C
Press return. A folder should open. From that folder, delete the subfolder named "com.apple.appstore".
Launch the App Store and try again.

  • Cannot update app on second hand Macbook aIR

I recently got a second hand Macbook Air and I am trying to update one of my apps but it comes up with the wrong Apple ID (where you have to enter your password) when  try to update it. How do I change this?

What you have to do is erase the SSD and reinstall the ORIGINAL OSX.  By doing that you can register the MBP in your name wirh your Apple ID.
Boot the MBA with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys.  The display should show a revolving globe.  Follow the directions andyou will be connected to the Apple servers.
You will need a solid Internet connection.
If your MBA came with 10.6 or 10.5 OSX, you will have to use the original installation media.
    Ciao.

  • Smart file examiner wont install updates for office on my macbook air. i click step two for show info then nothing happens

I just got my my macbook air and I am still learning how to use it. I just put Office 2011 on it and there was an update for it after i installed it. I did the update and it downloaded it but then instead of installing Smart File Examiner opens and step 1 sleect file and this is were is went /Users/user/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/3114AutoUpdate Installer.mpkg. Then it says information gathered successfully. step 2 click show information button. so I do and and the info on it opens in a new page, but it does not do anything else. So how do i finsh installing the update?

Downloading as we speak, and the first explanation that comes to mind is that both files have a .rar extension, and that since OS X doesn't support this archive format, you need to install a third-party utility to open them.
One files tool to open .rar files is The Unarchiver (here), and another is Stuffit Expander (there). 7zip also proposes a Mac version (here). All three will decompress a .rar file, and let you access the .dmg file(s) inside.
Also, depending on the browser you're using, and provided you might be inclined to open trusted files directly (I use Opera, and seldom save safe download; I click on "Open" in the download dialogue), your files could very well open... in the browser cache folder, out of sight. But if you use Safari, Chrome or Firefox, and you don't have any utility installed to handle .rar files, that's doubtful. I'm going to open your files now, and check if I can install them.
    Stay tuned!
Edit: decompressing the first file using The Unarchiver shows that the archive is "incomplete". Which leads me to think that you might have to concatenate the two files to make one "complete" .dmg file.
If so, once they are decompressed, open a Terminal (in Applications/Utility), then type "cat", and drag both files in the window, one after the other (preferably in the right order...), type a space, then give the final file any name you want, followed by the .dmg file extension:
    (e.g.:) "cat /Users/Your_Name/Desktop/File1.dmg /Users/Your_Name/File2.dmg /Users/Your_Name/Desktop/FinalFile.dmg"

  • I can't update iMovie on my new MacBook Air

I bought a new Macbook Air a couple weeks ago. There is an update for iMovie in the Mac app store, and when I try to update it tells me "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it." But it came preloaded on my mac, so what do I do?? Any help is greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you must have purchased your MacBook Air from a reseller.  (If you bought it directly through Apple, you would not have this problem.)
So you should contact that reseller and request assistance.
    Good luck with this.

  • Since downloading and installing the current update of Yosemite on my MacBook Air using the Internet on my Hevanet server has become a rather useless effort due to unreasonable slowness

Since downloading and installing Yosemite 10.10 on my MacBook Air, using the Internet via Safari on my Hevanet server has become a rather useless effort due to unreasonable slowness and frequent Gmail crashes when I actually do manage to get through to the Internet.

    What exactly is crashing?

  • Is a delay before the screen updates normal when waking my macbook air?

    Hi,
I just got one of the new 11" Macbook Airs. Whenever I wake my machine, the screen comes on pretty quickly but seems to be "frozen" for about 3 seconds.
If I move my finger on the track pad or type something I don't see the results until it "unfreezes", but everything I pressed or moved is there. Also animations seem to continue in the background, so when it unfreezes anything that was animating, is in a state several seconds away.
This behavior seems very un-apple-like, so I just want to make sure it really isn't working as intended before I trek back to the store. Does anyone else have this?
I tried repairing permissions and wiping pram.
    Thanks
    Mike

Posted about this a while back but didn't seem that that many people notice this issue. I think all the new MacBook Airs experience this problem. I bought one, noticed the issue, took it back to the Apple store, they replaced it no questions asked, got the new one and it has the exact same issue. Wake from sleep takes 10-20 seconds or longer. And I was so happy with my new MBA...
Being in Toronto, at the Eaton Center Apple Store all of them seem to be Toshiba.. I ran around the counter and checked each MBA - there seem to be no samsung drives at my store.
    This really *****.

  • I am trying to update the apps in my MacBook Air but even though I am signed in with my apple ID an email of a person I don't know appears in the Apple ID tab and I can't change it

I am trying to update the apps in my computer, but even though I am signed in with my Apple ID in the App Store, the tab where I am supposed to enter my Apple ID to to update it, someone else's email apprear. What do I do?

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
    Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
    Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • HT1338 how do I update the drivers on my Macbook Air to enable me to use my broadband dongle?

I have repeatedly tried to install my BB dongle to my MB Air with no success.  One of my mates thinks it may be a driver issue and I should download the drivers for the dongle from the apple site.  Anyone have any ideas?

Whatever drivers you require for your broadband dongle will not originate from Apple. Check its manufacturer's website.
