Update 10.6.1. (7) disabled sound

Today, Friday, March 29, 2012, when I opened iTunes I was prompted for an update for iTunes, Safari and something else I can't remember.
After the update sound on my computer was disabled. When I hit the sound button I got a grayed out icon with the circle slash on top.
I checked for more updates that might fix it but kept coming up with nothing.
I did several disk utility repair permissions and restarts. Nothing worked.
Then suddenly the sound icon was back.
It may have be related to installing an update for Adobe Flash for Firefox or not. I really don't see how that has anything to do with iTunes or sound, but while I was searching the internet for a solution, Firefox wanted an update and I figured I had nothing to lose.
So I can't offer any solutions other than run permissions and restart several times and if you're asked for updates for anything, do it.
This is for brand new MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running Lion 10.7.3

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Hi!
I would like to know is there some option in the iOS where I could disable sounds and vibration while I'm using Messages app (app is open and the display is turned ON and I can see the message I recieved). This is very annoying when I'm using iMessages and getting a message every few seconds and then my phone vibrates constantly. It is of course OK if I'm not in Messages app but when I'm already using it I don't need a notification I got a message when I can see it for myself.

I'm having the exact same problem. I get a random text message ding for no discernible reason at least oncer per day. No alerts from apps, no email, no texts, no missed calls, no voicemails. It's not changing connection types between wifi, 3G, and edge. I know that the first gen iPhones sometimes dinged in that situation. If anyone knows what's causing this I would love to hear it.
Just to be clear I'm using a perfectly normal, not jailbroken, iPhone 4 running the latest software version.

After logging into SAP R/3 system, Click 'Customizing of local layout (Alt + F12) button in standard tool bar.
click 'New visual design' , select Off for audio and click OK.
Now logout and login to the system again. You will not get any sounds.

You can't, you need to turn the phone in Silent/Vibrate Mode.

How do I disable sound for specific users?

Theoretically if the user's not in the audio group, he shouldn't have access to sound devices.

I am having the same issue here... just upgraded my 5s to 7.1.1 (never jailbroken - factory unlocked) and then boom... NO Service!!! Searching ... that's it. currently using Smart Telecom Sim... at first it was working for me... after 6-7 hours, it started the No Service issue. I cannot send a text or make a call...

Once in awhile, they do have bug fixes for CS6. The only thing I can think of that was an upgrade for CS6 was a newer version of camera raw. For now they are allowing CS6 to have the latest version of camera raw, but when they are done with supporting CS6, I imagine that will be the last of the upgrades. I don't know of any dates, but I heard it wasn't for a long time if at all. So I guess we will all have to wait and see.
As for getting updates, I think you will like the manager. It makes it much easier. Frankly I didn't know the manager worked on the perpetual license. I knew it worked on the subscription. So it is good to know that it works for you as well.

because i am facing the below issue in my car.
the phone minimizes the volume of airplay and the ringing to 0 when connecting to a device (BT headset or car kit)

I've tried that by muting the output in system preferences. But it can be unmuted via the keyboard. I need to be able ti disable the internal speaekrs indefinitely. Is there a hack or a preference that I can get rid of?
There's also no alternative output device.

Restore settings + restart device fixes the problem.

yes, turned "Warning Tones: off" "Keypad Tones: off" This would make the starting up "SILENT" and when you turning the phone off it will also be "SILENT". This can be done to any Profile of your liking. I put mine to "New Profile" and use that profile as my daily profile.

It sounds like you have some audio issues with your iPad after the iOS 7 update.
I want to recommend the following troubleshooting from the article named:
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker

Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
Try turning off Bluetooth.
