Not possible. Make your 2008 R2 an additional domain controller, transfer FSMO roles and then demote the old 2003 server.

  • SCOM 2007 server OS upgrade from 32 bit Win 2003 SP2 to Win 2008 R2 64 bit

    Dear Experts,
    We are planning to upgrade where in SCOM 2007 R2 presents on 32 bit Virtual Machine Win 2003 SP2 to Win 2008 R2 32 bit or 64 bit. Though OpsManager Database is already upgraded to SQL 2008 R2 from SQL 2005. So No pblm with DB upgradation.
    So my point is If I go ahead to upgrade from Win 2003 (SCOM 2007 R2 resides) to Win 2008 R2 does it create any impacts on SCOM 2007 R2 environment ? Please let me know the procedure for this or any documentation is available to complete this.
    Thanks in advanced!
    Saravana Raja

    Firstly,
    Please note that you can only upgrade an OS to the same architecture (i.e. from x86 to x86, and not to x64). See the following Support Article about supported upgrade paths for Windows Server 2003: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/951041?wa=wsignin1.0.
    Therefore, if you plan to upgrade to a x64 architecture, you will need to perform a new installation, and not an in-place upgrade. If you are going that route, I'd suggest skipping Windows Server 2008 R2, and try to push to Windows Server 2012 if not Windows
    Server 2012 R2; to more future-proof your environment.
    Further, If you are going to perform a new OS installation (to move into x64 architecture), why not also utilize the "new installation" requirement in that scenario to also upgrade to System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager?
    The base scenario would be for you to perform an in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2003 x86 to Windows Server 2008 R2 x86. Except, there is no x86 version of Windows Server 2008 R2, only x64! Note: Windows Server 2008 (without the 'R2') has an x86 option.

  • 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 x64 with Active Directory

    I have successfully installed the 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Ent. r2 x64 with Microsoft Active Directory Domain Controller but i could not be able to run http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
    Although i have run the http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex on my another Windows 2008 R2 x64 ant WITHOUT Active Directory Domain Controller Role.
    i think its related with AD Domain server role of my server, because i run that on same config and operation without Active Directory Domain Controller role.
    Can anyone help about this issue?
    thanks in advance

    I have experienced the same problem - running 10g Express on a Win 2008 (32-bit). When not being a Domain controller, the install was fine. When installing after the server had been given the Domain Controller role (+the required DNS), it failed. NO FIREWALLS are involved on the server. Seems like Oracle Express has problems being installed in this kind of environment - independent of x32 or x64 bit OS.

  • Windows 2008 r2 64 bit with 64 bit CF 8 - ODBC drivers missing excel

    We installed a 64 bit CF8 enterprise server on our 2008 r2 64 bit system and we can't seem to figure out the ODBC problems. Most of the solutions we find online seem to apply to 32 bit versions of CF (on 64 bit 2008) - not x64 on x64 2008.
    We've already used the ODBC utility (here to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe) to create our ODBC ... since that utility displayed the drivers we needed. Once those were setup, we tried importing this registry branch
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC
    into this one
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC
    to try to get things to be recognized. No dice.
    Is there a 64 bit version of the Excel driver? If not - Or is there a way to get the 32 bit version of the Excel driver to work? If there's a way for us to use the 32 bit version of these drivers, we would really want to know what it is :-) We have some text drivers we'd also like to use (*.txt, *.csv)
    We can provide screenshots as necessary.
    Thanks much.

  • Unable to install security updates via WSUS on Windows 2008 client servers

    When I try install to install updates on Windows 2008 client servers I get the error : Code 80244019  Windows Update encountered an unknown error
    After running the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool I get the result : GetFileVersion(szEngineDir,&susVersion) failed with hr=0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.
    On a Windows 2003 server the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool shows no error message. So I guess the problem seems to be specificly related to Windows 2008 servers.
    The client server has been integrated into a WSUS console version 3.2.7600.226 runnning on a Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2.
    Thanks in advance for the help in resolving this issue.

    When I try install to install updates on Windows 2008 client servers I get the error : Code 80244019  Windows Update encountered an unknown error
    The 0x80244019 error is an HTTP 404 error and when encountered trying to "install updates", which really occurs when trying to
    download the update files so that the updates can be installed, is almost always a function of the desired file having been manually deleted from the WSUS server. The file that should be there for the needed update, isn't, but it used to be.
    If all of the clients are getting this error on all updates, then that's a function of the content store on the WSUS server being missing, in the wrong place, or configured with the wrong ACLs.
    After running the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool I get the result : GetFileVersion(szEngineDir,&susVersion) failed with hr=0x80070002
    This result is inconclusive, and not really relevant. The CDT is 32-bit only and can't be used on 64-bit systems. Plus, we already know the client is talking to the WSUS server -- you've reported the error code -- so the Client Diagnostic Tool will
    tell us nothing of use at this point (even if it did work on 64-bit systems).
    On a Windows 2003 server the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool shows no error message.
    Cool. It works on a 32-bit system.
    So I guess the problem seems to be specificly related to Windows 2008 servers.
    No... BUT... allow me to make an example of this for just a moment, and forgive me for that.
    This is a great example of arriving at the wrong conclusion, caused by not considering ALL of the differences, as well as the scope and capability of the diagnostics performed. The error is not because one is '2003' and the other '2008; the error is because
    one is 'x86' and the other is (obviously) 'x64'. And, in either case, diagnosing the client was wasted effort because the client is already working. (It got a real HTTP error message from the WSUS server.)
    Now, we need to get some real diagnostic information to find out why you're getting this error code. :-)
    Please post the actual entries from the WindowsUpdate.log where this error code appears, plus a hundred lines prior, and let's get some context around the error code, and the exact update that's involved in this issue.

    Dear Gurus,
    I have a 12.1.3 applications and 11.2.0.2 database running on Windows 2003 *64 bit*. Now I need to perform a migration from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2 64 bit. Please confirm if we can directly perform a clone from 2003 64 bit to 2008 R2 64 bit using Rapid clone?

    We are in Windows 2003 32bit on Applications and Windows 2003 64 bit for database. This architecture was certified as per Support which we had confirmed via SR.Correct.

  • Windows Server 2003 R2 32bit keeps unexpectedly rebooting - System Stop Failure

    Good morning all,
    I am currently having a very difficult time with my servers running Windows Server 2003 R2 32Bit SP2. I have had this server running over night last night and to come in this morning to find it has rebooted 4 times due to unexpected reboots. I have applied
    the latest hotfix to this server but nothing has worked. This is a unknown server as its my companys branded. its got a 13 slot PCI backplane with a processor card running a i7 2600K with 4GB RAM. The processor card is called a ROBO-8780. I have got 5 HDD's
    first 2 is RAID 1 which hold the OS and last 3 is RAID 5 which holds the data.
    I am getting loads of different problems aswell on different servers where on a freshly build OS of Windows Server 2003 R2 32Bit SP2, its rebooting on the Windows splash screen, can sometimes get into safe mode but very rarely.
    If you need any more information, please let me know, any help is appreciated!
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Could you offer us  the system log record information,Please do the following action then monitor again.
    1. Run Windows Update and make sure you have the latest patches and service packs installed
    2. Check so your server have the latest drivers installed from the manufacturer homepage. If not, please update your drivers, firmware and BIOS
    3. Uninstall any Antivirus.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error Starting Certificate Authority after upgrading in place from Server 2003 Enterprise (32 bit) to Server 2008 Enterprise (32 bit).

    Hope this is the place to seek help with Active Directory Certificate Services.  We recently upgraded in place an issuing CA in our lab from 2003 to 2008 and the upgrade of the OS was successful but the CA service now will not start.
    The error is:
    Error 0xc8000222 (ESE: -546)
    More info.  We did stop the CA service prior to doing the upgrade.

    Answering my own question with the hopes to help someone else.
    The problem has something to do with the logs for the certificate database.  There is some sort of a format conflict after upgrading to 2008.
    To get around this error, and get the Certificate Authority service to start, remove all the logs from the C:\Windows\system32\CertLog directory that should be where your .edb database file lives, leave the database file there
    This worked for us on three of four of our CA servers, the other one had a database that went down in a dirty state, so we had to use ESEUTIL utility to fix the database.
    NOTE: there is no ESEUTIL utility on the CA servers, so we had to copy our database to an Exchange server in our test lab, then run ESEUTIL /MH to see what the Status is, it may say Dirty or Clean, then we ran ESEUTIL / P (P for Repair, go figure I know
    right) anyway that fixed the database, so we copied it back over to the CA and started the service
    hope this helps some of you out, we have a case opened with Microsoft Technical Support on this issue and will update this thread with their feedback as well once they get back to us (it has been a week already)

  • Why can you not introduce a 2003 server into a 2008 domain?

    Hello,
    So we are going to be upgrading our domain very shortly from 2003 to 2008 R2. I know that we are not able to have a 2003 server in the 2008 forest, but the question is why? I'm trying to find some information on Google but can't actually find the reason.
    I have some ideas as to why, but I wanted some solid info, if possible.
    Thank you!

    In that case it depends on current functional level. If you're at 2008 or greater then you would not be able to bring in a 2003 DC.

    One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
    If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
    Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
    Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    Open Console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & next startup for clues.

  • Do I need to install Security Hotfix (KB2977319) after Cumulative Update 12 for SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2

    HI,
    I have installed Cumulative Update 12 for SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 on my SharePoint instances. This was to resolve a known  issue faced with the instance. CU12 helped resolve the issue. My company is rather strict regarding security hotfixes. But I am
    not sure if this particular hotfix [Security Hotfix (KB2977319)] is required if the instance has CU12 applied.
    Tested this on a Lab server, the installation did run fine, the summary log also stated that the KB is applied. But the Build Number did not change. Hence the doubt.

    Yes you must install Security update mentioned in KB 2977319 it is important for SQL Server to be patches with this security update. Without this it could allow an attacker to compromise your system and gain control over it.

  • Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers with Windows 2003 forest functional level Supported after Windows 2003 support ends in July 2015

    Hi
    Anyone knows whether Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers with Windows 2003 forest functional level will still be Supported after Windows 2003 support ends in July 2015 ?
    Thanks

    When Windows Server 2003 support ends, you should not have a Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller running if you would like to be supported by Microsoft. This means that there will be no reason to have a DFL or FFL that is lower than Windows Server 2008.
    So, if you are keeping Windows Server 2003 FFL to keep DCs running Windows Server 2003 then this is not supported.

  • What's the fastest way to copy 151GB, 375000 files from win 2003 server to win 2008 server

    Non techie here.
    I have a project where I need to get 151GB of data spread over 375000+ files moved from a win 2003 FAP to a 2008 server. Copy, xCopy, Robocopy all take in excess of 50hours to move it to an external HDD. Has to be external move for security reasons.
    I have 40 hours max to get it off and onto the new server.
    Cheers
    Ian

    I copied over 12TB in 24 hours using the method below. A lot of this depends on your infrastructure. The scripts I used are unmodified for your case. I suggest you give them a look and understand the process and change it to fit your needs.
    There are 2 parts. The first is a Main script that schedules PowerShell jobs that actually do the work. The main script will read a file called JobCount every loop to see how many jobs it can run at one time, the reason I did this was to change the number
    of jobs depending on Day (production) times and Night times. Also, the Main loop reads a nomig file that tells the script, don't move these folders because they were our test cases, you can even do test cases during the migration since you can modify the file
    while the script is running. The example was use to move thousands of home folders. Using Robocopy if you tell a single command to do everything, it will take hours to start, just looking around. If you do one root folder at a time, it will run much faster
    which is the reason I created this. If you have a small number root folders, you may want to point it at folders where you do have a lot of subs, remember you can have more than one main process running in different runspaces.
    Main Script

    $homeOld = (Get-ChildItem -Path \\server\share | select name)
    $JobRun = 10
    $i = 0
    $Count = $homeOld.Count
    foreach ($homeDir in $homeOld) {
        $i = $i + 1
        $Sdir = $homeDir.Name
        Write-Progress -Activity "Migrating Homes" -Status "Processing $i of $Count"  -PercentComplete ($i/$homeOld.Count*100) -CurrentOperation "Next to Process $Sdir"
        $not = gc \\serverl\share\script\nomig.txt -ErrorAction "Stop"
        $JobRun = gc \\server\share\script\jobcount.txt -ErrorAction "Stop"
        if ($not -notcontains ($homeDir.Name).ToLower()) {
                While ((Get-Job -State "Running").Count -gt ($JobRun-1)) {
                    Start-Sleep -Seconds 3
                if ((Get-Job -State "Completed").Count -gt 0) {
                $Comp = Get-Job -State "Completed"
                foreach ($Job in $Comp) {
                    $outfile = $Job.name + ".txt"
                    Receive-Job -Job $Job | Out-File -FilePath "\\server\share\verify\$outfile"
                    Remove-Job -Job $Job}
                Start-Job -Name $Sdir -ArgumentList "\\server\share\$Sdir", "\\newserver\share\$Sdir", "/COPYALL", "/MIR", "/W:1", "/R:1", "/MT:5" -FilePath \\server\share\script\robothread.ps1 > $null
        else {
            Write-Host $HomeDir.Name " Excluded" -ForegroundColor Green
    =====
    Thread Script - where Robocopy does the work.
    VVVVVVVVV
    & robocopy $args[0] $args[1] $args[2] $args[3] $args[4] $args[5] $args[6]
    ============
    This comes with no warranty, it is just an idea I used to do a very fast copy with permissions and all attributes, where no other method was useable.
    Thanks,
