Update 5.0.2 failure

I have a stand-alone PC, with a full price production suite installed and a full price boxed copy of ID CS3 installed, no plug-ins nothing fancy
Can any one tell me why the update to 5.0.2 WILL NOT install, either direct from the update many item, or from the downloaded file from adobe.com??
Un-installling and then re-installing seems to be the only suggested option. My experience of uninstalling Adobe products would lead me to suggest that takes you to a very dark place. And frankly the company are not paying for my lost time and productivity when I do that.
It would seem at the very least that FAILURE should at least give some reason why so that can be posted and analysed.
Suggestion below please

There are a few other threads on this, and I would suggest you read them. I think at least a couple mention where to look for the log files that will tell you what went wrong, which is the first step in figuring out what you need to do differently.

  • Update Serviceplan for tenant failure

I have a Exchange server 2010 SP1 hosted server running and getting the following failure when updating the service plan for a tenant
Organization is already in transition from service plan HostingAllFeatures_2GB to HostingAllFeatures_2-4-8GB, while current task would transition it to serviceplan HostingAllFeatures_2GB. Please finish the transition in progress first.
How can i finish the transition?
    I did already Complete-OrganizationUpgrade
    Tnx...

    Hi All,
    Issue is easy to solve,
    EMS --> Get-Organization -Identity ORGANISATIONNAME | fl
Now you getting all of the information of the Hosted Organisation
there are 3 importants ID's (ServicePlan, IsUpdatingServicePlan, TargetServicePlan)
If the "IsUpdatingServicePlan" is true then the organisation is still waiting for the upgrade, and you'll get the error message.
Now is time to put the TargetServicePlan back to the ServicePlan.
Update-ServicePlan -Identity ORGANISATIONNAME -OfferId 2 -ProgramId YOURPGRAMID
After you finished updating the serviceplan to the targetserviceplan you are able to activate the serviceplan you wants to activate. And starting a organisation upgrade. :-)
I had some picture's in this thread but i'm not allowed to post them :(
    Regards,
    Thomas

  • ITunes update interrupted by power failure - now can't install

Gateway computer running Windows 7.  I've run iTunes without issue for years.  I had the bad luck of having an iTunes update interrupted by a power failure.  I got error 193 when trying to run it afterwards.  During subsequent attempts to reinstall, I also get error 7 (Apple Mobile Device Service failed to start).
Here's what I've tried so far:
    - uninstalled iTunes in the proper order according to Apple help docs, rebooted, attempted to reinstall.  Received error 7 twice during install, clicked to ignore both times.  Received error 193.
    - uninstalled again, searched for leftover files in various folders as spelled out by Apple doc.  Reboot/install.  Same problem.
    - uninstalled again. Searched for and found stray registry key related to iTunes.  Deleted it and attempted install.  Same problerm.
    - uninstalled again, and attempted to install as administrator (the login I'd been using the whole time was an admin login, but I was grasping at straws).  Reboot/install.  SAME PROBLEM.
I am beyond frustrated.  Why won't this install work?  What is the problem with the Apple Mobile Device Service?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)
If you still have issues with AMDS try the steps in Install missing components and/or review HT203188: How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows.

  • VMM 2012 R2 - Create or Update Run As Account Failure: The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist

    VMM 2012R2 UR4 - Version 3.2.7768.0
Not sure when this started happening since I haven't had to update or create a new RunAs account in VMM in some time, but every time I do, either through the console or through PowerShell it throws an error about The specified directory service attribute
or value does not exist.  The VMM Service account is the same as it always has been, and other than this issue everything with VMM is working fine.  The full text of the error message is below.
I am hoping someone has some ideas because I don't have any more at this point.

    Hi,
    You want userPrincipalName, not userPrincipleName.

  • Sync/ Update after hard drive failure

Would like to update iPhone 3G to OS4. Hard failed & has been replaced, downloaded itunes 10. Apple says if I update w/o syncing will lose pics/ music from phone. Itunes did "back up" iPhone when I plugged it to some mysterious place (I can't find it).
It seems that it should be straightforward that my iPhone information would sync to itunes - hence the definition of "sync". For some reason the apps did sync after I clicked File>Transfer purchases from iPhone (a blind squirrel move).
I was able to find/import original music from external drive (back up hard drive) but itunes would not bring over album covers. Getting new PC in 3 weeks- not going to worry about that now.
Am I the 1st person to lose a hard drive or buy a new computer?

Am I the 1st person to lose a hard drive or buy a new computer?
No, but at least you maintain a computer backup. The iPhone is not designed or intended to be a backup storage device. The iPhone does not support disk mode to be used as an external storage device likely for security reasons. This also prevents anything from being installed on the iPhone from a received email or from a website except for saving a photo which can be done manually only.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.
As long as you maintain a backup of your iTunes library - the iTunes named folder located in your Music folder and all photos stored on your computer, this can be avoided when syncing an iPhone with iTunes on a new hard drive or with a new computer.
With iTunes it is a sync process, but all data is not synced. iTunes content and photos are not synced. The only data that is kept synchronized by the definition of sync - a bi-directional or true sync process are contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks with the supported applications on your computer. With all other data, it is a transfer process.
If you included the iTunes named folder in your Music folder with your computer's backup, with iTunes quit transfer the iTunes named folder from your computer's backup to the Music folder on your new hard drive. You also need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes.
The iPhone's backup does not include all data stored on the iPhone. The backup does not include any iTunes content - no music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, 3rd party apps, and photos transferred from your computer. This data should be available on your computer's hard drive and be included with your computer's backup.
This link provides the data that is included with your iPhone's backup along with the location of the backup on your computer's hard drive.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only. This is a transfer process - going to File and selecting Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.

  • 10.5.8 - Horrible update problems, Time Machine failures

I've just had the singular worst experience involving a Mac that I've ever had. I don't think anyone can actually fix what is wrong with my computer anymore, but I feel the need to describe my experience. Perhaps someone out there can tell me what went wrong, where, so at the very least this isn't repeated.
I came into work this morning, unlocked the screen of my Mac Pro, and the software update bouncing icon was letting me know that I still hadn't installed the 10.5.8 update. I figured, okay, fine, while I make some coffee let's do the update. Software Update does its thing, restarts my computer, and, boom, I'm back at a login screen.
I log in to the computer, and I have the default Leopard background. Not only that, but I notice that my dock icons are the default Leopard icons. Now I'm nervous, so I check out the finder. Yep, nothing in my home directory. I do, however, see a sparse bundle. I double-click on the sparse bundle, enter my user password, and voila; there is everything that should have been in my home directory.
I figure this has to be some kind of reasonably simple problem with recognizing a File Vault home directory. I then proceed to do what many Mac users have to do with every single OS update; go download the combo update and pray. After downloading the 800 MB combo update, I install it, reboot, and find that I still have the same problem. On advice that I found on the Internet, I try rebooting in Safe Mode, reinstalling the combo update, and logging in again. Still no dice.
This is where things get really fun. I think to myself; this is horrible, but I have Time Machine! I can just restore the machine to before I installed the update. After poking around, I find my Leopard install disc, order the machine to reboot with the disc as a startup volume, and away I go. Here's where I made my first mistake (that I'm aware of!). I went to the system restore utility, and it informed me that it would wipe the hard drive.
At this point, alarm bells should have been going off. After all, it was clear that nothing was working the way it should. Unfortunately, I had utter faith in Time Machine; I mean, what's the point of a backup utility that you can't trust, right? So I say, hey, sure, go blow away my hard drive. At this point, I go to have lunch while it does its magic (because, yes, trying unsuccessfully to fix the problem took my entire morning away from me).
When I come back, I'm thinking to myself, "maybe I should have backed that sparse bundle up to a spare drive just in case . . .". Sure enough, I restart, and just like before, I have an empty home folder. The only difference is that, this time, there is no sparse bundle. There is no record on Time Machine of any backups of my home directory. Not only that, but even though I restored to one hour before the 10.5.8 update, the files on my machine are no longer the correct versions.
I work on my development files out a subdirectory of /opt (don't ask). I go in to the subdirectory, check the Git repository, and find out that I'm 7 commits behind the master. This is odd, I figure, since I restored to one hour before the update and I haven't even touched the computer since Friday.
So, here are the problems I faced:
    1) The 10.5.8 update completely ruined my system's ability to access my Filevault protected home directory
    2) The 10.5.8 update apparently does not allow Time Machine to make a current backup of the user's home directory (as is normally done as part of the shutdown procedure - this is the only explanation I have for why Time Machine did not have a record of my home directory)
    3) Time Machine did not restore the correct version of my hard drive's files
    4) Time Machine did not keep a record of my home directory, AT ALL
So far now I've lost roughly three quarters of a day of work, and I will lose at least another day or two as I try to track down what versions of my files Time Machine actually restored, try to incorporate any necessary changes to those files that were passed over by the system restore, try to find a backup of my home directory that is not from Time Machine (which will, because these backups are more irregular, mean that I'll still have at least week old files and thereby lose a full week of work for anything not committed to a repository - at least I can be thankful that I do have other home directory backups, and that I don't rely on Time Machine for everything - if I did, I'd be completely hosed), and then proceed to get my machine back to a reconfigured, workable state.
The question that presents itself is when, if ever, should I contemplate doing the 10.5.8 update again. I will now forever be terrified of Apple OS updates; I can't believe the amount of work that has already been lost to this nightmare, and the amount of work I am going to have to do in the coming days to clean up this mess. If I could have pinpointed what would be the worst possible update scenario I could think of, this would be pretty close.
I hope no one else has faced any similar problems in their recent updates, but if they have I would certainly like to hear from them regarding what they did to alleviate the issues.
Thanks for reading and in advance for any help, advice, or considerations for the future you can provide.

A Time Machine backup is only as good as what can be restored ...
This much is true of any backup.
... since the backup isn't checkable until you restore it
Fully checking a clone (IOW, not just that it will function as a startup disk but also that all the files it contains are readable or usable) is extremely time consuming. And since it is a duplicate of the volume it is backing up, it can & usually will inherit any problems of that source, especially if the copy method is a block (as opposed to file) copy. For this reason, I use SuperDuper! to make my clones, since unlike CCC or Disk Utility it always does a safer if slower file copy.
However, there is still the problem that the clone will not automatically contain a file or container (folder or package) inadvertently erased or replaced with another one of the same name on the source, or a good copy of one that has been damaged on the source since it was installed or created. IOW, a clone is a snapshot of the source volume state +at only one moment in time+ -- including any problems or omissions of that source at that moment in time.
Archival backups like those made by Time Machine or Retrospect are different: as these product names suggest, they can back up the state of the source volume at many different moments in time to one backup volume. Moreover, particularly with Time Machine, they make it quick & easy to locate a particular version of some backed up item & restore it if needed. With Time Machine at least, one has the option of replacing an item or keeping both versions, with one renamed with an "(original)" suffix, since this kind of restore is basically a Finder copy. Occasionally "entering" Time Machine's galaxy timeline interface should make it obvious if things are being backed up or not. For instance, if there is no home folder in /Users/ for some user account, it is obvious that account isn't being backed up.
Unfortunately, everything changes for FileVault encrypted home folders. You may not even see the encrypted home folder in a Finder view of the Time Machine backup. When you turn on FileVault for an account, you get a warning about its consequences for Time Machine backups:
+Time Machine backs up home folders protected by FileVault only when logged out. You cannot browse items of the protected home folder in the Time Machine backup. Because you cannot browse the items in the Time Machine backup, you cannot restore individual items.+
IMO this makes Time Machine a poor choice for archival backups of FileVault home folders.

  • Updating Creative Cloud Desktop failure? It can't install as it thinks there are multiple versions?

As I signed in to Creative Cloud on my desktop, there was a little pop-up bubble from its toolbar icon (I use Windows 7 if that helps at all) saying there is a new update avaible,so it closes the Creative cloud window & quits the app,I press the bubble,it downloads, green bar almost full and everything, then say's it can't install as Creative Cloud is already on this computer, and I need to quit the current version,as its running (but it isn't) so I can't close it and it says to retry via the button and I press it but its completey unresponsive.... ? Its only a update, not a complete re-installation so why would It say that? I've tried to redownload several times and its always said exactly the same thing.

Have you verified the Creative Cloud application is not running in your task manager?

  • Mac OS X Update (10.5.1) Failure

Hi all. Just purchased my first Macbook over a week ago now and everything's been running fine apart from one slightly worrying issue.
Whenever I run Software Update, I'm having trouble getting the 10.5.1 update for Leopard. It will ask for a password, restart and start installing.
However, the installer is freezing at "Initializing Install" with the progress bar just showing a tiny amount of progress and not moving. I have tried installing about 4 times now and leaving it for a couple of hours each time but no luck at all. I end up having to use Apple-Q to just quit and return to login without the update being applied.
Normally, I wouldn't be too bothered about an update but when it's an OS update which is supposed to fix numerous security and stability issues, you can understand why I'm anxious to get this fixed. Any ideas why this might be the case and how would I go about sorting this out?
    Regards,
    Will

Bad news... I've attempted to install again and it didn't work. Now I can't log in though; think i've managed to corrupt my FileVault information by quitting the update. I'm getting a messgage telling me I can't log on because of an unknown error with FileVault.
I've tried running disk utility from the OS X Cd but it said it can't find any problems.
I REALLY don't want to reformat the disk; i'll lose quite a few documents and programs so if there are any suggestions, please let me know.

Mike I would recommend reviewing the install logs for the update you are trying to apply.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log at Troubleshoot install using logs | Elements - http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-install-using-logs-elements.html.

  • Update 9.0.3 failure.

THe suggested "solution" to un-check the Backup/Sync box in the preferences did not work for me. Suggestions? Tried the automatic update from the updater and the stand alone download.

The suggestion to kill ElementsOrganizerSyncAgent.exe didn't work for me. I'm running Vista Business sp2. I've lost count of the times I've downloaded this update. I tried it again a few minutes ago, made sure ElementsOrganizerSyncAgent.exe wasn't running and received the same useless error message. I've tried downloading the AdobeSupportAdvisor.exe at least twice and both times it reports no problems, yet 9.0.3 still refuses to install.
In addition I discovered some queer behavior of the pse preferences while trying to shut off the sync/backup from within pse's preferences in response to someone else's suggestion: The list of preferences display in the left panel, but the panel is unresponsive when clicking on entries or clicking on an adjacent entry. I find I have to click back to the first-selected preference, then on to a new preference in order for that new preference to show up. I can click on the sync/backup preference and often it doesn't show details either. All the other preferences, if they respond to the mouse click will all show detail; sync/backup preferences most of the time show a blank right panel if the left panel responds at all.
When the sync/backup right panel finally does show detail and if I can finally get the check box cleared, it's rather poor programming to leave the text there that the sync/backup is 'on'; it should change to 'OFF" when the checkbox is cleared to confirm that it's off.
