Update 7.1.2 caused permanent iphone 4 power off

I have updated to ios 7.1.2 my iphone 4. Now after it locked the keyboard, sometimes it power off. Only cable connection helps to boot up. Hard reset does not help. Your suggestions?

Hello there, arturfrommoscowcity.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great, in-depth steps for troubleshooting issues with not being able to power on your iOS device:
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Particularly:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Anyone having Bluetooth syncing issues w VW Tiquan11... and iPhone4? Essentially the pairing craps out every other time when you connect to the cars bluetooth. Requires rebooting iPhone, power off/on and then connects..

Many people are finding their Iphone 4S drops connection with their VW (Passat etc) integrated bluetooth hands free system after working fine for 5, 10, 20 minutes. The only way to reconnect is to switch the car off or turn the Iphone bluetooth off & back on.
This is a dangerous fault and it appears that both Apple & VW have no solution (or are ignoring as they have already sold you a phone & a car).

  • Unable to Connect to WiFi after iPhone power off; WiFi & internet are working with MBP; common problem, no solutions?

Here's my setup: Internet <> Comcast/xFinity supplied cable modem <> new Apple Time Capsule <> iPhone 4 & MacBook Pro (see below for hardware details)
Internet on my iPhone 4 has been acting slow since yesterday evening. My MacBook Pro was running fine, but just to be sure I checked the Comcast website to see that I have only used 50GB of my allotted 250 GB of data for the month, so it's not that.
I decided it must be a problem with just my iPhone, so I opened up the multitasking bar and quit everything in there manually, and then I held the on/off button, and slid the slider to power off. When I started back up, I could not connect to the same WiFi I had just been using. I tried to reconnect and nothing. I tried to forget the network and try again, nothing. I tried to reset all network settings, nothing.
I have tried all the steps listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398 "iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections"
Toggled WiFi off and back on
Made sure I am in range of the router (it's about 8 feet away and my iPhone reports full signal from the network)
Made sure all the hardware is connected and on
Checked other devices (I'm successfully connected with my MacBook Pro right now)
Checked for router firmware upgrades (I have a new Time Capsule from Apple with the current 7.5.2 firmware which I've been using for a month)
    Restarted my device (again)
Checked that the network is available (it does show on my iPhone)
    Restarted my Time Capsule
Checked my router configuration as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3727 "Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network" which involves simply checking to see that WMM is turned on, also stating that WMM cannot be enabled or disabled for Apple's AirPort products.
    Reset my network settings (again)
I have searched and searched for fixes to this problem, and I have additionally tried:
    Enabling/disabling Airplane Mode
Disabling any network password protection/encryption (no luck), re-enabling it (no luck)
    Changing the network password
Checking for hardware addresses present in iOS Settings > General > About (they are present and not zero'ed out)
Switching Bluetooth off (nothing) and back on (nothing)
....and probably a few other things I can't think of right now
    I have yet to try:
The "Freezer Trick" which apparently involves chilling the iPhone to get a temporary fix?
Restoring the iPhone (I would really rather not)
A different WiFi network (other than my own Time Capsule home network or guest network, both of which give the same Unable to Connect error)
So, after all of that, are there any more ideas? Is there a reliable solution to this issue? So far I've just seen a lot of "mess with the settings," "the freezer trick worked," and "blame it on the iOS 4 update."
    Here are my hardware details:
    iPhone 4; iOS 5; 32GB; AT&T; no cellular data plan (July 2011)
    TimeCapsule6,113; Firmware 7.5.2; 2TB (September 2011)
    MacBook Pro 3,1; Mac OS X (10.7.2); 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; Hi-Res Display; 4GB RAM; 500GB HD (August 2007)
    ...and the Time Capsule config:
    http://cl.ly/BCUt

Ugh. Apparently "messing with it" is still the answer. I decided to try the LinkSys router I was using before I bought the Time Capsule, and my iPhone connected with no problem.
I went through the steps again, and after rebooting my Time Capsule this time, I can connect again. The troubling thing it that this started with a power-off of my iPhone. No changes or installations, just a reset. Am I going to have to reboot my Time Capsule (which has no power switch, just a cord I have to unplug) every time I reboot my iPhone?

  • Gnome-power-manager update causes backlight to power off frequently

After the upgrade to gnome-power-manager 2.26.1-1 today, my laptop screen backlight is being powered off constantly, after only about 1 minute. It's not the screen blanking, but the backlight going off. It comes right back up if I do anything on the keyboard.
My power management preferences haven't changed though. They're all set (as before the upgrade) to never dim the display and never put the display to sleep. So why is the backlight going off anyway?
Also, this pretty distinctly seems to have to do with Gnome and not X. If I leave the laptop for an extended period at the GDM login screen, the backlight is never powered off. The problem only develops after I have logged into Gnome.
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks, I looked for bugs on this, but didn't find that one on the backlight for some reason. I was about to issue my own bug report. Anyway, so I added my comments to the bug report, but it has been marked "fixed" already (because it was really addressing a slightly different issue with DPMS), so I don't know if I need to start a new bug report or not. I'll wait and see what kind of reply I get. (In fact, it seems like the fix to the problem in the backlight bug report may have caused the problem addressed in this thread.)
That said, I found a work around, if you want to completely disable the backlight ever going off. You can issue the command:
    xset -dpms
This disables entirely the display power management system (which I'm guessing gnome-power-manager operates as a frontend for). Of course, if you want your screen to be put to sleep after some set point of time this won't work. But you may be able to configure this directly with other xset commands or in xorg.conf (see links below).
To disable dpms at startup. I found oddly that it didn't work to add it to my .xinitrc. So instead I went to System > Preferences > Startup Applications. Added an a program in the "Startup Programs" tab, named it "DPMS (disable)" and for the command put:
    xset -dpms
    This is working.
You can also configue DPMS in xorg.conf, but I'm not using xorg.conf so I didn't fiddle with it. See: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DPMS and http://www.shallowsky.com/linux/x-screen-blanking.html.
    Hope that helps.

Most likely faulty battery. Make Genius Appointment and take iPhone to Apple, battery diagnostic test by Genius takes less than 5 minutes.

  • Updating system - do not power off. During shutdown.

Help.....when I shutdown my t420 and am conneced to external power, I consistently get a message during the shutdown process, something like "applying update 1 of 1. Do not power off or unplug your computer'. This is very consistent, happens every time, whether I have <knowingly> installed any updates or not. This causes the Thinkpad t420 to take a long time to power off.
I can't tell what is being updated or if this a real message or just some residual stuff from a past update.
any help/pointers on how to clear this would be appreciated.

do you have automatic windows update switched on in the control panel under Windows Update.

  • My ipod touch will not power off

After I updated the version of iTunes, I cannot power off the iPod touch (4th gen).  I manually reset it (through the settings/general/reset).  It will NOT allow me to reset by holding power and bottom button.  When I hold those two simultaneously, it turns on voice control.

    - Let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

i have iphone 4s from japan which is a carrier locked (kddi ) it has ios 5.1.1 and now i want to upgrade to ios 6.Can i do the software update or it will cause any harm???

If you have a Japanese iPhone and are using it with any carrier other than Softbank or AU, then it was hacked, since as the others have said neither of those carriers unlock iPhones. Therefore if you upgrade iOS or restore your iPhone, it will lock back to the original carrier and be unusuable with your current cell provider.

Software hiccup, glitch or maybe faulty battery. Restore iPhone with iTunes on computer. See if this helps. If still problem that you think is serious enough to fix, all iPhone 4S have full Warranty. Make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

Since updating my iPad 2 to IOS6 and activating my icloud for backup, my iPad has permanently locked. Message on screen is "iPad Not Backed Up". I click ok but no response. Cannot turn power off and cannot restore via my pc itunes. What are my options?

Thanks to everyone who responded and related subject helped. Holding the home button and power button simultaneously for 10-15 seconds does unlock the screen. I can now use my ipad again. However, a futher problem has arisen since updating to IOS6 and activating icloud at same time, Although not sure if its related. The problem is that when connected to my PC the itunes message appears 'Cannot read ipad'. It instructs you to restore but keeps timing out after about 1 hour. This maybe internet issue but can't understand why itunes cannot read my ipad. May need to completely erase all content & reset. Or any other suggestions why this has happened?

  • Hello I just barely updated my iPhone software to the ios7 and it's stuck on the power off screen asking to connect USB to iTunes. How is it for me to continue past that?

Hello can someone please help me solve my issue to my iPhone update iOS 7 software. I updated it and now it's stuck in the power off screen showing an demonstration of the USB connection plug with an arrow pointing towards the iTunes logo. How do I go from there?

    Hey Bianca71,
Thanks for the question, I understand how frustrating this may be. It sounds like the update process may have been interrupted, and to resolve the issue, we’ll need to restore your device in recovery mode with iTunes:

  • I tried to update the iTunes software on my iPhone today, and now the phone won't work unless I "restore" it.  I don

I tried to update my iTunes software on my iPhone today and plugged it into my laptop.  Before the process was complete, I received an error message saying I had to "restore" my iPhone before it would work with iTunes.  Even more importantly, and troublesome, is the fact that now my phone won't even work at all.  I can't turn the iPhone on, and all the screen shows is the iTunes icon with a picture of the white power cord.  Can someone advise if there is a way to update the software without restoring my iPhone, which will cause me to lose everything on the phone (much of which I have not backed up yet)?  Last, is my stuff already backed up by iCloud?  I believe I have sellected that option on my phone, but honestly, have never really understood what iCloud is or does.  Thanks in advance for any assistance/advice.
