Update 9.1 will not install, re-attempts for many weeks

Hi:
on one of our Win XP systems we have an issue with Adobe Acrobat Reader v9.1, this automated update popping up and asking to install the software. Every each time the update starts and shows a message that someone is using Acrobat, asking to stop that process. But I cannot identify any such process. I used process explorer, killed off everything I can think of, to no avail. As soon I click on "Retry," installer returns to the menu and asks to stop Acrobat user.
I tried reboot, restart, log off everybody else, kill processes, remove quick acrobat starter etc, etc. What upsets me is the obnoxious recurring nature of the problem and the fact that the most elementary functionality of telling actually what process is the user is not implemented in the installer.
Could someone please give me a hint how to find this mystery "acrobat user" process?
Thomas

Thanks for the replies, but the last assumption is not correct. Every of these versions of Acro Reader came same way from the web.
Apparently the suggestion is not to look for the "mystery process" but rather tio assume that Microsoft installer got its settings scrambled. I will give it a go lacking any other hint.

My IPhone 5 installed the new IOS 7 update but it will not install.   Why?

I imagine a ton of people are attempting to download, install, and reactive their devices it right now. Simple patience, maybe keep trying, and if possible, try a little later. Think of it as all those people lining up at Apple Stores + about a million more.

  • MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 will not install.

    Hi
The latest MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 will not install.
It runs and I restart my Mac but when I search for more updates it appears as a required update again.
Anyone know why this may be?

I had the same problem today. I called Apple support who transferred me to second level support and no resolution. I decided to try a combination of the items I have seen below.
I restarted my computer. I went to apple support download and downloaded the software EFI firmware update 2.0 by typing in search window. I made sure the power cord was pulled into the wall and the laptop had a FULL charge. I installed the update and the computer restarted.
I went to check the software update window after the update and restart completed and SUCCESSFUL.
I do not know why the Genius Bar or the second level support could not resolve my issues but, by me reading information here I hope at least this issue is resolved.
    Thanks ALL.......... Happy Mac ing

  • Macbook Pro SMC update 1.3 will not install

    Greetings,
I am having problems getting the latest SMC update to install on my 15" Macbook pro. My built in drive has a boot camp partition, so I understand if the update won't install using that. But When booting off freshly GUID partitioned and HFS+(journaled) formatted Firewire 400 drive (Leopard installed and updated to 10.5.7) SMC 1.3 update will not install and gives same error "Your firmware can not be updated because the hard drive partition scheme may not be supported. You must be booted from a GUID partition or RAID scheme." Huh?
I tried the update pushed down by software update, and a manual download.
Current SMC version showing in system profiler as 1.16f10
Anyone else experience this or have any suggestions?

"...hit the hardware start button, get gong, machine starts to boot, something briefly flashes on the screen"
Hi Bob, you have to hold down the start button(5-10secs) until you hear a long tone. Then let go and everything is ok.
You'll also see the progress bar install the update, that is what the brief flash was but because the button wasn't held for a few seconds, it didn't take.

  • Windows 8.1 will not install the driver for Officejet 6310 All-in-One

Have downloaded the driver from the HP website, but it will not install. The download wizard "detected a problem with the driver software" but did not say how to resolve it. The option to download the software was still available, so I did that anyway. When attempting to execute from my hard-drive, extraction occurs, followed by a delay, and then a message that reads "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way". This is in an error box headed "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library".  Can anyone help please?

    Hi AB-Comp,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand that your are seeing the error The download wizard "detected a problem with the driver software". I am happy to help you with this issue! I have some questions for you:
What Operating System are you using? Windows or Mac? What version?
Can you make copies with the printer?
How is the printer connected? Wireless, Ethernet, or USB?
Is the power cable plugged into a surge protector or directly to the wall outlet?
Hope to hear from you, and thank you for posting!

  • Update to iTunes will NOT install and all subsequent attempts to reinstall fail.

I was informed of an update to iTunes tonight so I tried to install it. It would not install. "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." A second error message pop up stating "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes - Error 7 (WIndows error 126)"
I've tried reinstalling iTunes 3 times. After each time I've cleared cache and temporary internet files and re-booted. I've used Firefox, IE 10 and Google Chrome. Nothing works.
I need this fixed. It was working great until Apple decided to put out an update that screwed everything up.

Go it done. The key appears to have been UTTERLY removing EVERYTHING - even going so far as to delete every iTune folder under Users/Local, LocalLow, and Roaming, and Programs Files, and clearing out all Temp files.
    Thanks!

  • BBC iplayer says Adobe Air needs updating: Adobe Air will not install, but says I have a later version already on my PC!

Use Firefox. Have BBC iPlayer which will not load, saying I need a newer version of Adobe Air: when trying to instal Adobe Air, get message saying I already have a more recent version. It worked when I was using IE, but not since changing to Firefox.

    Hi there,
stumbled on this conversation after having problems myself.
After lots of trial and error, I was finally able to install iPlayer on my MacBook Pro.
Firstly remove Adobe Air (Applications, Utilities, Adobe Air Uninstaller).
Reboot (not sure if it is needed but it is what I did).
Download Adobe Air 2.5 from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/853/cpsid_85304.html
Then retry installing iPlayer from the BBC webpage. I ignored the prompt from Adobe Air to upgrade to the latest version (3.1).

  • Security Update 2007 006 will not install!

I downloaded the newly released Security update (Intel) and tried to install it on my 24" Intel iMac. I was immediately informed that my volume "does not meet the requirements for this update" and it refused to go farther.
Has anyone an idea what is going on here?
    Griff

Here is what worked for me.
Run Safari 3.0 installer and choose uninstall. Then, after a restart, either use the Apple software program in Tiger or download the updater for your machine. Either should install.
Evidently, the Safari installer had already put the fix on my computer, but since I have a lot of time to kill, this gave me the peace of mind that the whole fix is installed.
Then you can reinstal Safari Beta, if you really want it.
Personally I am going to wait until Fall and get 10.5.

  • Update Downloads but will not Install (and a few other issues)

My dInc2 keeps telling me I have an update. I download the firmware and then it tells me that if I install I won't be able to use the phone. This is fine - it's what always happens. Except it NEVER installs. Ever. I've tried a million times. And more recently, my clock disappeared. I was so glad I wasn't having that issue - but then it happened. Has anyone else experienced the issue of updates not installing? How do I fix it?

AngM627,  I can imagine how frustrating it must be for you to keep receiving the notification advising you to update your phone software. Do you mind telling me which software version is on your Incredible 2?

  • Update to Java will not install

I received an error message when trying to play one of the games on Pogo.com telling me I need to update Java. So I went and downloaded the newest update but when I went to try to install it, I got a popup that said I need to have OS 6. I have OS 10.7.5 so why doesn't it recognize that? Is there a specific Java update for 10.7.5? I've done updates before and never had this problem.

I can only guess that you  downloaded "Java for Mac OS X v10.6 Update 12" which is, as it says, only for OS X v10.6. Apple has not yet announced any plans to update Java 6 for Lion / Mountain Lion users.
Apple disabled all versions of Java in Safari less than these latest updates.
You can install the latest version of Java 7 at java.com, but I believe I heard from other users that Pogo Games are not yet Java 7 compatible.

  • Macbook efi firmware update 1.1 will not install

When I check for software updates, there is an update that is labeled "Macbook EFI firmware update 1.1", I click on the button to install it, a message is displayed that the update was installed successfuly, I click on the "OK" button, it checks for updates again a message is displayed that "Your software is up to date". When I click on the "Quit" button a Windows opens displaying a message about the firmware update and I have to click on the "Shut down" button. The system shuts down, when I turn it back on and check for software updates again the "Macbook EFI firmware update 1.1" is listed again, I have been through this 3 times, it says it installs but when I check again it still shows up as an update that needs to be installed and the firmware version has not changed as is should if the update did in fact install, what am I missing???

Firmware update 1.1 is a very old update for 10.4 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL207 I have no idea why it would be showing up on your MacBook.

  • Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 will not install

I have attempted numerous times to get this Thunderbolt update to install, and it always pops back up. I always have the power cord plugged in, I own no Thunderbolt devices, so there is no issue there, and I have even attempted to install it in safe boot - to no avail. I suppose that it is not affecting me majorly, but it is mildly annoying to constantly have the App Store telling me that I need to install something that I've attemped to a dozen times. If anyone has any other hints on how to get this to work, they would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

When you're trying to install the update, was your AC power plugged in?
I had the same problem, but this time my AC was plugged in and the update didn't pop up anymore.
When I tried to read the announcement of Thunderbolt update 1.2 from Apple, there's a note at the last sentence.
"Note: Your computer must be plugged into AC power for the update to install."
    Hope this might help

  • Problem with the 10.5.2 update... will not install

After downloading the updatesoftware from the apple downloadcenter I get the normal option of restarting my mac and install the new update. I press restart, and the computer goes in to a configuring installation modus. Here it stops. The progress bar does not move, its just locked. I let my computer stay like for 3 hours, but nothing happend. In the end, even though i know its wrong wrong wrong, I had to force restart my mac.
Anybody know what can be done to fix this problem?

I have exactly the same problem - also - the other two people who are traveling with me have the same problem - so it is not just you. All three of us were wondering what's going on last night - unfortunately we are in the Philippines at the moment and I haven't tried to call AppleCare yet.
I also made an attempt at repairing disk permissions - no luck with that either - disk utility hangs as well just like the installer.......

  • Keyboard firmware update 1.0 will not install

Hi - I think others have had similar problems, but I don't know if a solution exists?
When software opens on our macbook here at work, we get a message that there is an update available for the keyboard. It should ensure that the first keystroke is recognized after the macbook's been asleep and solve a few other problems. Well, the first keystroke isn't generally recognized, so I decided to try again to install it. Here is what happens:
It downloads perfectly, as far as I can tell.
    The machine restarts.
The software tries to install itself. It quits less than halfway through, giving me an error message and then, "your keyboard firmware could not be updated". This has happened twice over the past three months or so. What is this update, how important is it, and how on earth do I get it to install?
    TIA!

First, does your MacBook meet the following requirements:
    System Requirements
Installation of MacBook and MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 requires Mac OS X 10.5.2.
Note the above because it does not appear that you have a version of Leopard installed.
The MacBook and MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 supports the following products:
    MacBook (Late 2006)
    MacBook (Mid 2007)
    MacBook (Late 2007)
MacBook Pro (17-inch Core 2 Duo)
MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo)
    MacBook Pro (Mid 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz)
    MacBook Pro (Late 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz)
When will the keyboard firmware be updated?
This update installs an application in the Utilities folder called "Built-in Keyboard Firmware Update." The updater application will automatically open. Once open, please follow the instructions within the application to complete the update. It can also be manually run later by double-clicking the updater in the Utilities folder.
Second, I would download and install the standalone version rather than using Software Update.
