Update abd white screen

While trying to update my brand new iTouch, iTunes came up with an error my Itouch then frooze and goes to a white screen. After a while the screen goes black I can reconnect it then it tries to recover and I start the whole process over. Any ideas?

Check to make sure yout Startup Disk (in System Preferences) is set to your OS X volume.  A hang like that in the beginning can sometimes mean it is looking to start from a different volume (expecially if you have booted from a different drive recently) and eventually times out before trying the next drive.
If that's not the problem, try repairing permissions (Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility).

  • Trying to update OS to fix White Screen problem.

Hello, I have had my Blackberry 8520 on a Virgin contract for about a year and a half now. Recently it has started randomly just changing to a black white screen that won't allow me to turn it off or perform any functions. The way I temporarily fix this is to plug it into the charger which acts like a reboot and brings it back to normal (pulling the battery to reboot it just restores the white screen after loading). In trying to find the resolve to this problem, which I haven't yet, I rang the Virgin helpline who told me to update my OS. I currently have the version 5.0 Bundle 1096 and I am trying to update it to the 5.0 Bundle 1168. I have been having increasing problems with trying to do this. I updated my desktop software for Blackberry but updating through this software always brings up the message at the install stage (after backing up my data) - "An error has occured while downloading software for your device. Please verify your internet connection or try again later, if the problem persists." My internet is working fine and I have tried many times to update through this way. I have also tried updating through the blackberry website "web based updates area" that brings up the same message. Looking through over message boards, I tried the attempt at updating through the LOADER.EXE way. However after trying to download the OS manually to my computer, which my internet explorer thought was dangerous, it came up after with another error message - "Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error from reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.' I am now out of ways to try and update my Blackberry and have no idea how to solve the white screen problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Karen x

Just to specify the final type of the updating I tried was following the instructions on this links - http://us.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software/desktop-and-device-download-sites.html I choose Europe, Virgin Media, Blackberry curve 8520. I got the software on to my computer and the error message that came up, appeared after choosing language and agreeing to the terms and conditions and starting the installation. Sorry about the big clump of writing; the post removed all of my paragraphs when I posted it. New to this! And need help! Thanks x

Open "Java Preferences" either from spotlight or your utilities folder...it's probably going to say you need to install a java runtime. Then just click install!

  • When I updated to ios 5.0.1 my battery was half way full and it was charging. It started to install it and now it is completely dead (with the lightning bolt) and when i try to turn it on, i have a white screen. HELP

I have a ipod touch 4g, i just updated to ios 5.0.1 today. At the time, my battery was half way full so i had it charging. It started to install, i'm not sure if it actually did or not, but it turned off and started loading like if it were a new ipod, or like when you install new software. then the screen went blank and it restarted. it says its completely dead now but if i click the home button it turns on but goes straight to a white screen.

    - If the screen remains white, let the battery fully. After charging for an hour, try a reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    And restore as necessary,
    - If it is off try:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

  • Updated to Firefox 9, now it gives me a blank white screen. What's going on ?

I upgraded to Firefox 9. When backup was done it gave me a blank white screen with tool bar at the top. I thought maybe it needed "backing up your info" so I did that, still no Firefox screen. I rebooted the computer, still no screen. I can go to "Most Visited" and select Firefox, and it will go back to old Firefox screen that says I don't have the latest update. What's going on ?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Updates from Apple result in white screen, have to reinstall thru time machine, 4hrs.

    I have a Mac 21.5, OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
Processor: 3.06 GHz; intel Core i3
    Memory 4 GB 1333MHz  DDR3
If I do an update from Apple I end up with the White Screen of Death. I restore thru Time Machine and this takes about 4hrs.  I have to turn off,  unplug everything then plug everything back in, power up while holding "shift" "command" "r" and "p", keeping my finger on power button till I get an option screen with 4 choices.  I've found, restore with Time Machine the best choice.  It takes two people to hold the keys and power up.  I don't know why this happens, hoping for some ideas.  There has to be an easier and faster way to restore. I currently have an update pending, 10.10.3, I just did 10.10.2 Saturday (04-11-15) and had to go through all of the above to get update and eliminate "white screen" to restore.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a general summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a particular line of text to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
These are not specific instructions; just an overview. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. Load this linked web page (on the website "Pastebin.") The title of the page is "Diagnostic Test." Below the title is a text box headed by three small icons. The one on the right represents a clipboard. Click that icon to select the text, then copy it to the Clipboard on your computer by pressing the key combination command-C.
If the text doesn't highlight when you click the icon, select it by triple-clicking anywhere inside the box. Don't select the whole page, just the text in the box.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing command-V, then press return. The text you pasted should vanish immediately.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

I installed the latest update to my phone. Half way through it asked to connect to itunes. After updateing it had some type of error and wanted me to restore the phone. After restoring, another error box popped up and said that it could not be restored. Now it won't connect to itunes or my computer at all and is nothing but the black start up screen with the apple logo, or it's just a white screen. What happened?

DFU mode? How do I do that? So far the only thing I can do is hold down both buttons to power it on and nothing is on the screen and it wont reconize on my computer....

  • After iOS7 update I cannot launch the music app. It crashes after a few seconds of white screen. What to do?

Just updated my iPhone 5 (16g) to iOS7 and now I cannot launch the music app anymore.
It opens and then just crashes after a few seconds of white screen.
Also If I go to Settings General About the phone crashes all the time after just a few seconds. :-(
    Andreas

The same for me. iPhone 4S, itunes match and upgrade to ios7 by air.
    So what we have:
    1) Music app does not launch (white screen then close)
    2) About screen crashes (I guess once it tries to calculate music space)
    3) Spotlight does not show any results (no care what I set to search in in the preferences)
    4) iTunes Match slider can not be set to Off. However, it is possible to logout from AppleID, then it off. But this does not change the situaton at all
    5) Podcast app does not launch
I tried to reboot, to sign in with another Apple ID, to turn off itunes Match, to reset all preferences. Nothing helps.
    Things to try:
    - reset all preferences and content
    - reinstall ios7 with itunes from scratch
    - switch to windows phone

    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

  • My ipod is stuck on a white screen after i tried to update IOS and turns on and off by itself :/

ok so last night im textin my sis with this app and i thought she was done texting me so i decided to update my ipod to IOS 6 and it took FOREVER just to download it idk why but anyways it said i needed a power source or a battery level over 50% so i just charged it with my wire nd wall charger. but the thing is about the wire is tht it teeds to have a problem charging it has to be in ceartain postions or shape for it to charge so when i plugged it in it had the charging icon at the top so i clicked install nd when i clicked install it said verifying update or something like that but after a couple seconds when i clicked it my sis sent me a text and i acciedently clicked lauched but eventually it shutdown to countine the update. so i waited for about 5 mins or less and i find that the little bar at the bottom froze so i shut the ipod off using the home and the power button. but then when i pressed then power button to turn it back on it showed me the apple logo then the screen dims just a little bit then the screen goes to a light blue and im like ***? so i shut if off again the same way i did the first but this time it turned on by itself and repeated the cycle untill i shut it off. so when ever i shut it off, i turns on BY ITSELF shows the logo for like 5 sec dims, then goes to a blue screen. but i tried repeating the cycle this one time nd at first it faded to white. then again i tried this time it when to blue then it changed to black very qucikly. but now i just left it on a white screen because it was the most common color of frozzen screens when i looked at gogle for answers. and now im soo ****** cuz i had just deleted alot of pics and some apps for the IOS 6 update -___-

You may have to do the following
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I updated from ios 5.0.1 to 5.1. Midway through the update itunes crashed. I got it all working again and ever since I have been stuck in a recovery loop. DFU mode works fine, but when I go into recovery mode (yes I am doing it right, yes I have tried pwning, tinyumbrella, etc.) it still just gives me a white screen (I am not getting the plug arrow and itunes icon screen that shows up when you are in recovery mode). I am a huge fan of hacking, mods, and jbs, BUT have never done any on the iPad, (found it pointless).. nevertheless, I am stuck thanks to apple in a white screen and a nonworking iPad. If anyone has any ideas that does not include jbs, updating, restoring, restoring with internet off, restoring in DFU, I would gladly appreciate it. I would take it to the apple store but it was a friends and I didn't purchase it. My friend had the issue formerly and they had no idea what to do at apple (they usually try DFU, restore, and then have nothing else to tell you.

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

I have just updated my Macbook Pro (Mid 2010) to Mac OS X 10.8.2. My computer restarted and now it won't load back up again. All I see is a bright white screen with a spinning/flashing lines that you get when Safari loads a new page. I've left it on for 20 minutes and still the white screen remains. Does this mean I have to book an appointment with the Genius Bar?

  • White screen problem after updating to 1.1 firmware

My 2G iPod Nano worked fine with 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 firmware but after updating to 1.1 I get white screen everytime I turn it on after longer period of time. Turning the iPod off and then right back on makes it work again. I have done restore 3 times without effect. I even removed the firmware files so that iTunes downloads them again when doing the restore but that didn't work either.
Should I return it or wait for new firmware? Has anyone else had this problem after updating to 1.1?

    Disconnect iPod and close iTunes.
Firmware files are in "Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates" folder.
You should still have the 1.0.2 files named "iPod_19.1.0.2.ipsw" and "iPod_19.1.0.2.ipsw.signature" in there if have you upgraded from 1.0.1 version.
Remove 1.1 files from the folder so that only those to files are in there.
Disconnect from network (I switched off my wlan) so that iTunes can't download the new version. Connect your iPod and do Restore, iTunes will now use the old firmware files because it can't connect to the internet.
