Windows 7 Home Premium -> Windows 8 Pro RTM (upgraded without problems)

@peter9898 and skozicki...
is there a specific issue you're trying to resolve or new feature added with the update? if not, there's seldom a reason to update the BIOS on a well-working machine.
regards.

Ask google and try anyway but not work
    - Press ThinkVantage, Press F1, Press Fn+F1
    - Power off, unplug AC, unplug battery, wait 15 miniute, try all again
    - Try to update BIOS again

    That is really weird.
When you are in Windows, can you test and see if the F1 key is working? If it is working. Shut down the laptop then boot it back up. At the Thinkpad screen, keep spamming the F1 key and see if you are able to boot into BIOS.

  • Updated bios via Live Update and now my Network card isn't detected

I have an msi Z87-GD65 Gaming Motherboard and I updated some drivers and the bios via msi Live Update 6 last night and now my computer refuses to recognize my network adapter. The adapter is a TRENDnet N600, plugs into PCIe if I'm not mistaken. Wifi if my only option with this computer, I can't use ethernet, so it's really important I get the network card working again. I have had zero issues with it until this.
The reason I was updating was to try to get my third monitor to work when plugged into the mobo, while my other two were plugged into the graphics card (which I also installed yesterday, but it's working fine). Note that it still was not working, but I had enabled the IGD Multi-Monitor from bios.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I did try uninstalling the drivers but it still won't detect the network card. I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the network card (and I cleaned the port for good measure).
I've only been using Windows computers for a year, so bear with me if there's stuff I don't know. Thanks in advance. I can try to get a full list of what was installed later tonight, but all of it that I can find has been uninstalled at this point.
Note: I did not flash the bios when I installed, which I have now heard is a bad idea, apparently. l:

  • H61MU-E35 (B3) Updating BIOS....File Not Found Error

I have MSI H61MU-E35 (B3) Motherboard with Intel i3 CPU.
I downloaded latest BIOS File  7680vC3.zip (on web page it's says Version: 12.3 from  -> -www.msi.com/support/mb/H61MUE35_B3.html#down-bios
Using Windows XP OS  From 7680vC3.zip => Extracted E7680vC3.exe  => Placed on USB Drive (I did not format USB Pendrive, and used by just making it empty by deleting files) ==>  Ran this exe file on the computer where this motherboard is....
Inside Windows XP, when BIOS Update process started, In a green window, it shown me current BIOS old version and  New Version side by side.  (I did not given much attention to notedown from which number to which number it's updating).
In Windows XP after BIOS Process completed, it restarted computer (I kept USB File as it in the computer as I had read that, I have to keep USB in computer after restart).
When computer restarted...nothing came on the screen and just blank screen for long time and on the right side on screen bottom corner only letter like: A2 stayed for long long time.  I waited for 15 minutes but nothing was happening except blank screen...
So, I restarted computer....and kept USB as it is in the computer....but Nothing comes on the screen...
After I concluded that, something is wrong, to resolve the issue...
--- What Try and Experiments I have done  ----------------------------------------------------------------
    (1) I placed Restarted computer without USB: and Message comes on the screen is:
BIOS Update is not yet completed, please insert the USB pen drive  and reset system.
    (2) I refered some forums, and also contacted MSI Support. As suggested, I formatted USB Drive with FAT32 and placed  E7680IMS.C30  file (only one file) on USB placed in computer and started computer.. Now Message is coming:
    Updating BIOS...... File Not Found..
Note that: E7680IMS.C30  File was given to me by MSI Support Staff as I did not kept Original files during formatting USB PenDrive.
But computer is not looking for .C30 Rom File, Computer is looking for .BIN File
    (3) I have remove the battery and waited for 5 min. and placed again, to reset BIOS, but not difference on result or on message...
    Renamed: file E7680IMS.C30 to EIVB.BIN
Result: Just Blank Screen with A2 text on right side bottom corner, No other message
In some other same issue post, they recommand to change ROM File name to: EIVB.BIN which worked for others, so I also tried and renamed: file E7680IMS.C30 to EIVB.BIN, in this case, I was able recreate original Issue:  When computer boots, Screen stays completely Blank, and on the right side bottom corner, only 2 digit tect comes is: A2. Computer does not give any other message and nothing happens...even I waited for 30 minutes...
Also, by looking at USB Pendrive light, I can tell that, motherboard is reading file on the Pen Drive...
    Renamed: file E7680IMS.C30 to E7680IMS.BIN
Result: Message comes on the screen: Updating BIOS...... File Not Found..
    (5) What I am thinking is:  When motherboard power-ups, it's giving me two different type of Valid message based on if USB is in the computer or not, based on if file name is .BIN or not, so I believe motherboard is still not dead and there are hope to feed the file which motherboard is looking for. But issue how to find what specific file which it's looking for... Even sometime I have seen at screen right side bottom area, 2 Digit numbers are changing just like system is doing internal healthcheck before booting up...
    (6) Note that, I would like to put old version file on USB to feed, but one of the biggest issue with MSI is, once you download EXE from their website, to Extract EXE file content it needs to be run on the same motherboard computer, so in my case, if your motherboard is not in bootable cituation then you can not extract any other BIOS File to try...
Please help me...by havin this computer down....I am suffering everyday...
(By profession, I am electronics Engineer and have worked with programming Microcontroller and bootloaders, but in this case, I do not have SPI Programmer to program BIOS chip externally.)

    Thank you flobelix  and Nichrome.
Quick Result Summary:  128MB USB Key formatted FAT32 with HP Tool, made MS-Dos Bootable and placed EIVB.BIN file given by  flobelix, but final result is: Screen comes Blank and only shows "A0" Code at right side bottom corner. nothing else.
    Detail
Since Flobelix proviced ROM BIN File, I was too exicited to try it out and here is what I did...
    (1) As per Nichrome link for HP USB Format Tool, I installed it on "Win XP" machine, and formatted 128MB USB key by selecting "FAT32" and selected option to make "MS-DOS Bootable" and shown Win98 source files as per the instruction.
-128MB USB drive made bootable with FAT32.
    (2) I downloaded EIVB.rar given by flobelix and extracted and copied EIVB.BIN file on USB root.
Inserted USB in MSI and powered up...
As soon as I give power:  Imidiately one normal beep and Screen comes completly Dark Blank. No message about "File not found".  only at right side bottom of screen, it shows "A0".
I inserted USB key in each and every USB slot, but result is same: Screen stays Blank and on right side corner only "A0" letter.
I given around 3-5 minutes time to see something changes on screen, but no change.
    - If I power-up computer without connecting any USB Drive: then message comes on screen that: Bios Update has not completed, please insert USB Key and Reset System.
    - On USB Key, If I put ROM File with any other name (except EIVB.BIN) then Message comes:  Updating BIOS... File Not Found...
    - I have removed battery to give a try for resetting BIOS, but not change.
    Question:
    (1) Is it possible that, motherboard is looking for specific version of File or some different version of file ? and just staying silent and not complaining for existing EIVB.BIN ?
Here is I experiment:  I simply created empty text file (0 Byte) on USB Drive and given name EIVB.BIN  and booted up computer and same result: Blank Screen and just "A0" on right side bottom corner.
So, it tells me that, when power is given, the program which executes in motherboard for BIOS, it is not able to identify real or fake EIVB.BIN.  I think, it's looking for some specific file and when not found, it's getting confuse on what to do....and not saying anything on the screen....
Has anyone old version BIN file of H61MU-E35 (B3)  ?
Is there any trick so I can download older version Packaged EXE from MSI website and extract it ? I can give a try....

  • Equium A110-276: Do I need to update BIOS when Vista was installed?

I do know where to post this...
"I have clean installation of Windows Vista on my Equium A110-276. Do I need to update the BIOS or not? Does Updating BIOS Compulsory/mandatory?

    Hi
It seems Toshiba has published a special version of BIOS for Windows Vista.
If you want you can check it on the Toshiba driver page.
But if your Vista runs correctly on the notebook with previous BIOS version you dont need to update the BIOS.
I would recommend updating the BIOS if any strange operational behavior will appear.

  • Can't update BIOS?

Am I to understand that I simply cannot update my BIOS, on account of that I'm using WinXP with NTFS and don't know anyone with 98/ME? I really hope I'm missing something here, because that sucks. I shouldn't have to rely on "friends" with outdated operating systems in order to keep my BIOS up to date.
I also don't usually keep a floppy drive in my computer. I had to install one specifically to flash my BIOS. Can't this be automated by Windows yet? Sheesh. A little help here?

Do not flash your bios from a floppy diskette. it will fail.  If you will
do a search of people who have done this they all have problems flashing from
a 3 1/2 disk.  Flash from hard drive or cd rom as stated in flash procedures for
you mobo.  Finally if there really is not a problem with your bios and hardware their is not good reason to update bios.  If its not broke don't fix it!!!!!!!!

  • 16GB SODIMM anyone interested in pushing TOSHIBA together to update BIOS

    Hi,
Anyone interested to convice Toshiba to update the  BIOS Memory Reference Code routine to recognize the new 16GByte SODIMM modules released by the memory company I´m Intelligent for the differnet product lines including laptop Satellite?
We could have 32GB with two slots.
So, please answer the ones interested and stay tuned.
    Thanks.
    KR,
    RI

Thanks, Jerry, for the quick reply.
Before I posted my original question I had been through all available downloads/docs for my Satellite and read up on the Battery Manager feature on some of the Toshiba notebooks.
My Satellite does NOT have the Battery Manager feature/app among the many Toshiba-branded utilities.  Only "ecoMode," which doesn't appear to do much exept trim down power consumption, and "PC Health Monitor," which reports info on battery charge level, etc, and allows access to Windows power management plans for tweaking.  But no Tosh-branded Battery Manager application...
What I'm trying to determine is whether it could be ADDED to my machine, by updating BIOS to a newer TOSH version (maybe that's a bad idea), or by downloading a utility app for a newer Toshiba laptop, or both?
"Officially" it appears that the Battery Manager (and therefore, Eco Charge) was not available for my older L505, but what I want to know is whether I could add it somehow?

  • Is it Neccessary to update BIOS?

I am inclined to always update everything (drivers, BIOS, etc) every chance I get, thinking there are fixes to various problems. However, I have read that it is best not to update BIOS if the system is working well.  In my case, although my computer is working with a BIOS dated April this year, I am never satisfied with my system speed and other issues.
The new BIOS was just released Nov 1. I am on an 1155 platform Sandy Bridge, ASUS brand, with i7 procesor running Windows 7. I have several hard drives, RAID arrays and other components internal and external.

Alex, I'm agreement with what others have said here but would like to add that you could also do some google searches on this particular new BIOS version to uncover any issues that people may be having with it.  Sometimes BIOS updates are not that well tested by the motherboard company and they have to be quickly followed up by another update to correct bugs.  Being that this new BIOS is a month old already gives some assurance but you should probably do some searches nonetheless.

  • Re: Portege R500 - How to update BIOS on Windows 7?

    Hello,
I want to update the bios of my Portege R500 to the 1.6 version. It's a windows-update BIOS and when I launch it under Windows 7, I get the message:
[Error] BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack is installed.
I have to reinstall XP in order to update the Bios? File name is P0058v160.exe. Does anyone know if BIOS update works in Virtualisation mode? I would install Sunbox VM, install XP and run the BIOS update. But will it work?
    Does anyone has an idea?
    Regards,
    Roro

    Hi
You cannot format the 32GB SHCI card because the card reader of R500 support only SDHC cards up to 8GB!
So even you will update the BIOS, the 32GB SDHC card will not be recognized
    Back to your BIOS update question;
Since the BIOS is OS independent, the BIOS update should work using Win 7 too.
As far as I know some Toshiba tools are needed in order to start the BIOS update.
Using Win XP you need Common Modules installed.
Using Vista or Win 7 the VAP (value added package) should be installed.

  • Not able to update bios.

My product number is showing up as "Product Number: PPPPPPP-CCC#MMMMMMMM" so when I try to update bios it states that it is not applicable. HP auto detect is also not able to identify my PC. I have a  HP A6750F Vista 64. Any help on how to fix this or atleast be able to update bios? Thanks for any help.

I had exactly the same problem with the new BIOS flash and couldn't seem to install it either. A 'Google' search threw up these forums and I noticed the issue seemed to be fairly recent.
So I did what the others suggested - downloaded the BIOS update 'exe' file and restarted my S10-3c and it failed to run!
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Then I downloaded the same file and (erroneously I must add) I saved into the same folder as the earlier BIOS update file, which had similar problems.
I didn't restart, just double clicked on the 'exe' file and voila! It WORKS!!!!
The solution is to download the earlier "amifldrv32.sys" file, and follow the same instructions. The instructions are:
    1) Download the "amifldrv32.sys" file (a quick Google search will help you locate the file)
    2) Save the file into a specially named folder (ex. BIOS Flash)
    3) Download the BIOS update 'exe' file from the lenovo site and save it in the same folder as the "amifldrv32.sys" file.
    4) Follow the appropriate instructions on the download site to prep your machine for a BIOS flash
    5) Double click the 'exe' file and wait a moment or two - you'll see the utility pop up and begin its work
    6) On the restart, press the F2 key and you'll be able to see the new BIOS version / or restart and log in as normal and run the "msinfo32" command in the 'Run' box and check the system summary/BIOS version
Oh! Don't forget to thank me
Mod/Admin - if others respond that this solved the problem can we mark it as a 'Solution'?
And how can the Lenovo folks know that the "amifldrv32.sys" is a problem they need to rectify for future updates?
And all - compliments of the season, a happy new year and all that

  • Satellite A200-1DN - How to update BIOS for Windows 7

I'm running 32bit Windows 7 on a Satellite A200 1DN. I've been having battery problems (plugged in, not charging) and I understand I need to update my BIOS. However I can't find a BIOS update for Windows 7, only Vista and XP.
Can anyone help? Should I update with the Vista BIOS? Are there any other options for solving this battery problem? I've already tried an ATX reset, and uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ian

Theoretically, you can install Windows Vista to update Bios and return Win 7, then. Before doing, try this:
Unplug the computer from the AC adapter and turn it on. Let the computer run under battery power until the computer turns off
Remove the battery pack. Using a soft cloth, wipe off the battery packs connectors and the AC adapters connectors.
Re-insert the battery pack and plug the computer into the AC adapter
    > I've already tried an ATX reset, and uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery.
by the way, did you have the same issue before installing Win 7?
