Update cannot be installed because it requires at least 3.8 GB

I am trying to upgrade to iOS 7 but it I need more room but I only have 2.3 GB available.  The only way to free up enough room is to delete all my music and photos.  Is there another solution?  If I delete is there a way to get them back?

That will do no good via iTunes. Yesterday or the day before I upgraded 5 idevices. Four of them have 64 GB of storage. However not loaded up and it showed available storage space as sufficient.
Spent good part of the day first upgrading the icloud storage to a higher amount. (.99 cents a month so no big deal) went in and deleted Apple apps like garage band and other high capacity use apps from Apple. Finally the update took place and it dragged on.
After the phone was set up I noticed those same Apple Apps I deleted all were back on the iphones and iPads.
I visited the Apple forums and found loads of posts saying they had huge space but would not update. Many did as I did. Many said it was a scam to put more storage on icloud/backup now called idrive.
Keep trying. Oh its iOS 8 not iOS 7
Good Luck

  • JDeveloper 11.1.2.1.0 : The JUnit Integration update cannot be installed

    Hi.
When trying to install "JUnit Integration 11.1.2.1.38.60.81" I got this message:

I want to install from a local file junit_bundle.zip.
    Thanks for help

Stefan, I guess you have to have an internet connection if you want to install it from the local junit_bundle.zip. During the install it loads the licence from the web. If it can't access the file you get the error you see.
You can try to download the licence into the same directory where you have stored the bundle, but I'm not sure jdev looks for it there.

  • This ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the Itunes installer to remove Itunes, then install the 64-bit version of Itunes.

I'm not sure if the error message is related but smart friend was using my computer started deleting Quicktime & Safari and told me that they shouldn't be on my computer as they are not windows product & I can't use them on my laptop. With trepidation but acknowledging I don't know any of the stuff they were talking about, I allowed them to raid my laptop thinking it could be for the best. Now I'm not sure if it is related or not but depsite me having the most recent Itunes updates on both my Ipod 4TH GT, I am getting the following message everytime I connect my Ipod to the computer...and the timing would be about right too:
this ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the Itunes installer to remove Itunes, then install the 64-bit version of Itunes.
If it helps I am running the 10.7.0.21 on the Sony Vaio & remember checking last week I do have the latest update on the Ipod but it is a different version from the Itunes on the laptop (which may be normal, I wouldn't know) but as I am away from home & Wifi I can't tell u the version on that though.
My problem is I cannot find an apple installer on the laptop to uninstall & I have searched Apple & Google for help and have seen others posts with the same issue but alot of the answers unfortunately I can't follow. I would greatly appreciate it if you can you answer any of these questions for me?
*Will add & remove totally uninstall Itunes so that I can reinstall?
*Will I lose my apps, music & data?
*If the apps, music & data is recoverable, how do I do that?
Sadly I can't find the installer & would love to add my new Mumford & Sons cd to my Ipod collection but don't know how to fix this. I love my Ipod & google but I have spent hours tryign updates, downloads, searches & feedback to Apple. A few months ago I had an Itunes billing problem & there was a webpage where you could email an apple support worker & rhe replied to my credit card problem within a day or 2 but I can't find that help for this problem..I couldn't express my graditude enough if you could help me with this, but thank you.

This "smart friend" really sounds like a collosal moron.
Follow the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925  to remove and reinstall all Apple products on your computer.
Once you get everything working, the next time your "smart friend" wants to touch your computer, tell them firmly NOT A CHANCE IN ****!
None of your data (media, podcasts, apps) will be affected by removing and reinstalling iTunes.

  • This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes

I have seen others post this same question but the answers provided does not resolve my problem. My iPad Air is running iOS 7.1.2. I have been using this same computer for three years. It has Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1,  64-bit Operating System, Intel 3.4GHZ computer and 16.0 GB .  I used this same computer with my iPad2 for several years. I purchased an iPad Air a year ago. I never had a problem with either iPad using iTunes. About a week ago, my computer would no longer recognize the iPad Air. I thought it must be a driver problem or iTunes somehow became corrupted. I uninstalled all of the Apple products except for iCloud and deleted any Apple software left in my Program Files and Program Files (x86). I then downloaded from Apple, iTunes64Setup.exe which is a 110,833 KB program. I installed the program without a problem. It installed Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Application Support and iTunes. These programs I had previously uninstalled. I then brought up iTunes.  I now plugged in my iPad Air and a popup message appeared "This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes". OK, I did as instructed. I used the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then ran iTunes64Setup.exe. I brought up iTunes and got the same message. "This iPad cannot be used because the required software is nt installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes"  In general, I have found the Apple software to be robust and reliable. This situation however is very disappointing. I am hoping that someone has an answer that I can use to resolve my problem.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component, such as Apple Mobile Device Support, won't install normally.
In your case I suggest you start with a clean download of the setup file using the direct link. If reinstalling AMDS alone doesn't work try tearing everything down again.

  • I received this error msg when I wants to sync my 3gs iphone. Please help. "This Iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."

I received this errir msg when I wants to sync my 3gs iPhone. And I already update my iTunes to 64-bit. "This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed.Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version itunes".

First make sue you are installing the 64 bit version of iTunes.
Second make sure it is iTunes 10.7 or later.
I would download a fresh copy of the 64 bit version of iTunes 11. After installation reboot your computer.
Before connecting your phone reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

    Hi, Mommacat26.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This usually means that a required component is missing.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
If you receive any errors when uninstalling any components of iTunes, try the steps in the article below for each component that gives you an error.
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" alert appears when removing Apple software in Windows

If the issue persists, try installing the Apple Mobile Device Support driver.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows XP or Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

  • "This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed"

    Greetings,
I have a problem with my newly purchased iPhone 3G - iTunes will not recognize it, stating that "This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed". Uninstall and reinstall iTunes, it says. I've done that several times, following the instructions for removal here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
Not working. The iPhone is recognized in Windows, and both the Apple Mobile Device and iPod services are running. I'm running out of options here - I managed to activate the iPhone on another computer, but I need to sync it with my own computer to make it usable.
I am running 32-bit Vista SP1 (fully updated) on a Travelmate 8200 laptop. iTunes version is the latest, obtained from Apple.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, my hair is turning gray over this.

If it were me, I'd make sure to uninstall all 4 of those services mentioned in that link you provided. Then make sure you've downloaded the iTunes package from this link http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Make sure you install, and keep installed, everything in that package. In other words don't uninstall anything that the package installs. I don't know this for a fact, but I'm pretty sure that at the very least your system will need both iTunes (most recent version) and QuickTime in order for the new 3G phone to function properly. If you download from the link provided above, you should get the latest version of iTunes and QuickTime. Hope this helps.
Wooops, . If your location requires you to download from another link, then by all means go to it. I just noticed that you're from Sweeden.

I got this message  when i update itunes on my pc, I  have uninstalled itune and re instail using  revo unistall  over 10 times and gone through every thing solution on this forum to no avail. I please I need help.  I did try extracting  intune using winrar  and got his message "iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support.  Please uninstall both Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, then install iTunes again."   I have tried to do that repeatedly. Although iTunes will install, Apple Mobile Device Support won't.  It looks like it is installing and then it rolls back and says "Apple Mobile Device Support wasn't install on your computer.  The installer encountered errors before Apple Mobile Device Support could be configured.  Your system has not been modified.  To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again." Please I need help.
    Thanks.

Try uninstalling iTunes, apple mobile device support and apple appliation support (via the control panel. add/remove programs) then reinstall iTunes.
THere seems to be a bit of a conflict between the most recent iTunes update and  possibly a windows update.
I had to uninstall all 3 of those programs to get my iPad to syn last night

Thanks for your reply. My Mac is running 10.5.8: it's 4 years old.  When I try to update the OS software, I'm told there are none available.
Be careful - there's a difference between update and upgrade.  Your machine is saying there are no updates available, meaning no later versions of OS X 10.5 (Leopard).  However, you can very likely upgrade - at least to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and possibly then to OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
Updates are free, but upgrades cost a bit.  That's the dirference.

  • I plug in my iPhone and this message showed. "This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes." I did this but still not working. Please advise

I have a problem with connecting my iPhone to iTunes. I uninstalled one of the computer program and restart my laptop. After restart my laptop and a message said that iTunes might not working because one of the component is missing and request to reinstall the iTunes. Hence I remove iTunes from my laptop and I reinstall iTunes to my laptop but still not working.
Before this the iTunes will automatically launch when I plug in my iPhone. But after I reinstall iTunes, it's not working. When I try to plug in my iPhone after iTunes launched and message "This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes." popped out. I did this twice but it's not working as well.
Please advise what should I do to fix this.

  • "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.."

Ok so I have a LONG list of problems with my ipod touch and Vista, I have Vista Home Premium and iTunes wouldnt even install because it gave me a "Vista" error "microsoft.vc80.CRT,public Key Token="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0 .50727.762"processorArchitecture="x86" Please refer to help and support for more information." I found out this was a vista related error but managed to get iTunes 7.5 to work even though this error showed up during installation yet when it rolled back the install and then reinstalled itself, it installed successfully. (I have tried the same with version 8 of iTunes and above but instead of the successful iTunes install like 7.5 and stuff do, it says the install was interrupted and couldnt install)
Ok so now when I plug in my (fw 2.2.1) ipod touch it says "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes. Then reinstall." But I have 7.5 so iPod Touches should work! My computer recognizes it as a camera but that is as far as I get.
1 more thing. I have the usbaapl.sys in the system32/drivers folder that iTunes installed, so I dont get why it cant read my ipod...
PLEASE, if you can help in any way please help!
    THANKS!

Yes. The iPod touch will not be recognized by iTunes if the Apple Mobile Device service is not running.
What security software is running on the PC? Try to reconfigure, temporarily disable, or uninstall the security software. Then reinstall iTunes or repair the Apple Mobile Device installation from Control Panel.

  • ITunes says that my iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Says to install 64-bit version.  Problem is 64-bit version is installed already.

I have a 64 GB iPod operating on iOS 5.1.1 (says software is up to date).  I finally was able to download iTunes 64 Bit to my computer and open it.  Now when I connect my iPod to the computer, I get a message saying "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Tun the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."    I have removed iTunes from my computer and downloaded the 64-bit version again and installed it.  I still get the same message.

    Hi antiklady,
I see that you may be having an issue with compatibility of iTunes when connecting your iOS device. This sort of issue can arise if you have two versions of iTunes installed on your computer, which I feel may be the case. Here is an article that can tell you how to identify the version of iTunes that you have open:
iTunes: How to find which version you are using - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201521
If the version of iTunes that is opened is not the version you are required to use for the iOS device in question, try searching through your computer or applications folder to see if there may be two versions of iTunes installed on your computer. Then, uninstall the version that is incompatible using these steps:
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1923
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.
