Update Checking Over the Air..N80

hi all,
this is my very first post. i'm a N80 user, and i just flashed my firmware into v 4.0623.0.42 recently.
i did it via NSU and i worked just fine.
But i have 1 simple question, everybody's talking about checking updates over the air via 'Device Manager'. I tried to do that (just in case new update's available), but when i opened my 'Device Manager', 'no server profile' is written on the screen.
What should i do about this? The server profile is supposed to be created automatically or should i create it my self? if i should, i don't have any idea how to fill in the blanks..
any advise is kindly appreciated..

thx 4 the reply dezi,
im afraid that is not what i meant. I've checked and the v 4.0623.0.42 fw is the newest one for my N80. and i just successfully flashed it recently (maybe a week ago).
what i really wanna know is just how to check updates via 'device manager', the settings, server profile(how to create one), etc.
thx,
moelest

  • Automatic updates for Over-the-Air Profile Delivery

    Dear Apple Community,
I am trying to deploy an Enrollment service, according to this document:
    https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/NetworkingInternet/Concept ual/iPhoneOTAConfiguration/OTASecurity/OTASecurity.html
From this document, I can learn that:
"Reconfiguration occurs automatically if the profile expires [...]"
Yet, when I provide an iPhone with an expired profile (either one that has expired already, or one that is about to expire and then wait for it to be expired), the iPhone does not try to update. When I go to Settings->General->Profiles, I can see the profile is expired and a button that allows me to update it. Yet, the update doesn't occur automatically, which is opposed to the documentation.
    What am I missing here?
    Thank you in advance,
    Jack

    Hi,
I have the same problem. And also I wasn't able to update the profile manually.
When I hit the update button, the Iphone tries to update the profile, but it fails saying that "The profile “iOS Enrollment Server” is invalid."
    jackmack22,
Can you please share more information on how the update occurs when you hit the update button?
    Thanks
    Ale

  • Updating N80 firmware over the air

Can somebody please tell me how to update my N80 firmware over the air?

Assuming you have the correct software version (I think you need at least 4.0623.0.41) then you can open Device Manager and then select Options -> Check for updates. From other discussions it looks like not all variants have this feature activated.
I did hear a rumour that if you have an N80 in the UK with SW version older than 4.0623.0.41 and variant 58 you can phone the Nokia careline and they can send you the latest software. (of course my friend might have been joking)

  • What happens during over-the-air update?

What processes occur during over-the-air update of an app?
This morning I checked for updates and there were 6 updates for apps on my phone. I selected one to install -- one that is listed as 0.3MB on the App Store. The new copy of the icon appeared, and the blue bar started moving. I presume that is the download to the iPhone taking place. Then is says "Installing..." I presume that is the actual installation of the updated app.
But... It seems to take a looong time to install. I could install Adobe Creative Suite on my MacBook Pro faster than this 0.3MB app is installing on my iPhone.
So what is it doing during all that time?

It appears apps don't actually update, it just downloads the new version and then installs it, part of that is removing the old version. However its getting annoying now because then I have a different version in itunes and on the phone so when I sync it wants to transfer the file to itunes, I end up with 2 versions of the same app in itunes then because it seems to not delete the old one.

help can't update my iphone 4s sprint to ios 6 because it exit automatically on about 75% of the installotion over the air and itunes ...

So what happened to the phone during the process?  It should have gone black and restarted a couple of times and there would have been a white progress bar as the update installed.  Sounds to me like you've downloaded the update file but not actually installed it.  The quickest way to see version of the software is installed is to go to Settings-General-About and check Version.

No WIFI after iOS 5.0.1 over-the-air update on original iPad. I have reset the network settings,  power off the iPad, trying static IP and nothing, it's unable to join my wifi network. anybody with the same issue?

    Great!  Thanks, this works.
I have an old Linksys WRT54G in it I can select WPA Personal and AES as algorithm--it works for me (though maybe just changing to anything works!  but I will not try anything different since I have spent already so much time with this problem.)  Again, thanks for the solution Juan.

    That is absolutely not true.
An NSU update for the N96 at least is a 125MB download or thereabouts.
V10.043 to V11.018 was about 3.5MB via FOTA, V11.018 to V11.101 was no more than a few hundred KB, and V11.101 to V12.043 was once again about 3MB.
FOTA is far more reliable than NSU since there are fewer machines involved (the phone grabs the update directly from Nokia instead of having it buffered by a machine, a machine running one of the most notoriously unreliable operating systems ever created) and therefore fewer points of potential failure.
As psychomania pointed out, there are cases of people bricking their phones with NSU daily on these forums. To date, we have see one case of a failed FOTA update. Draw your own conclusions.
Like our resident psycho, I hope that FOTA becomes far more widespread in the future. It is much more reliable and quick.

although i tend to agree that FOTA should be safer, but i think we might be jumping to conclusions to early, as there are about 91 phones supported by NSU, most of which are updated by the conventional PC way, whereas there are very few that uses FOTA (i knew of 2 handsets), hence the relatively lower incidence of failures...

You're probably running into the servers simply being swamped. Thousands of people are all going for the software update at the same time. Give it a try again and if that doesn't work, then try plugging it into your computer and trying it that way.
I didn't get a notion of the size, it doesn't seem to be as big as the 700 meg 5.0 update, but it did take me 20+ minutes to download via cable internet so it's a large file. That in and of itself takes a while.
If you're trying to download it directly to your iPhone, you'll need to be on wifi since I'm sure it's well over the 20 meg file size limit for 3G.

If the update is on the Nokia servers that does not mean it is ready and available to end users for the OTA update. While a Nokia Care Point could flash it for you that will also wipe the device.

You are in Recovery Mode. Follow the instructions below to recover your iPad.
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.

  • What happened to over the air updates

am I the only one, or has over the air updates been changed to over WiFi updates? Not the same thing. Pretty inconvenient when you're somewhere without WiFi and want to update your phone.

I always update via Wi-Fi so don't have any personal experience but did notice the following quote in Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Some iOS software updates aren't available as over-the-air updates.
