Hi,
I hope so you all r fine.M facing a problem in character mode reports.i want to increase width of item field but when i opens paper layout of rdf there is no such colum.actually this column depends on parameter value.but am astonish how it is displays when it is not exist.
Can anybody help me.

I'm sure it exists. If the data model uses a lot of lexical parameters, it may be confusing to figure out where the data comes from. Without any more information on your report, it is impossible to tell.

132 Column Text / Character Mode Report

I m facing a problem to Saving a Character Mode Report in 132 column or more then 80 column of width ,,,,

Yes I have set the the following parameter
1) Data Model --> System Parameter ---> Mode=Character
2) Data Model --> System Parameter ---> Desformat=dflt
3) Data Model --> System Parameter ---> Desname=myfile.txt
4) Main Section ---> Charater Mode ---> Width=132
though i get this report in normal format within 80 columns, but more than 80 column the alignment of the report out display out of columns positions.
please give me alternat how can i save my 132 column
report in a propert format.

Linebreak Code in Character Mode Report

Dear All
I m saving a Character Mode Report which is 132 column Wide, and i can access that report in Note Pad in proper format and alignment but when i m use WORDPAD, it open in un aligned format i mean with line break.
so any one can give me any Idea so i can open that report in WORDPAD too.

Take a look at the .prt file that you are using. The linebreak code is stored in there and you can alter it to the appropriate code for your printer/platform/application to view correctly.

Font Size in Character Mode Report

Hi ,
I have to print a report in a pre printed Stationary, which has tabular columns The columns are little bit small . when i have bigger data say value like 9999999.45 it over prints on the pre printed text. is it possible to reduce the size of the data at these places and be normal in other parts of the report.
i.e. Font size reduced inside the tabular column and normal for the remaining part of the report

Font size in character mode report cannot be control through Oracle Report.
 
You can use report .prt file or manually set the printer to print character in small size.

Problem in Character Mode Report (Urgent)

i m designing a character mode report
and when i preview it ,,, it will display
different report font which is big in size
and width so it is not fit in the designed columns
can any one help me ,, y this problem is exist
though i m using Dot matrix printer EPSON DFX-8500

If you are directly giving Print from previewer..you need to set printer to 10 cpi (if you want bigger font) and 12 dpi to compress the larger font..
CPI is character per inch so in one inch 10 chr or 12 chr can fir acc to setting.
If you are uploading file on Oracle Apps then you need to set fonts if needed in concurrent manager,printer setting,Style,fonts ..

Character mode report cuts off last character on a line

Reports 9i, Windows 2003 Server. Printing character mode reports to IBM 6400 printer. I have a variable text column (multi line) and randomly the last character on a line gets cutoff. I'm using Courier 10 as my font. It is only 1 character that ever cuts cutoff. Any ideas? I'm desperate.

change the reports height& width for landscape /portait.
and go to edit margin in layout.
see the layout and move to left if it has lot of gap in left side.
we can get correct output if the right side border is upto 8.2.
try with this.

Character mode report in report 3.0.5.2

Hi everyone,
Can someone help please how a character mode report be created which is needed to be saved as text file of extra width likely of 14"x8.5" pagesize(lanscape). I have almost 14 numeric columns, and I need this report then to load into EXCEL sheet. I don't want fields wrap around.
Can someone please help me step by step the procedure of creating such kind of report? I tried all possibilities of my own but didn't get it. The report version is rather old i.e. 3.0.5.2.1. I have no clue if old version is the problem. Any assistance in this matter will highly be appreciated.

Okay, well, if you're in 3.0 then you'll need to alter the character widths in the report level property palette. As I mentioned in the previous reply the character mode settings are independant from the bitmapped settings. You'll also need to set 'Design in character units' to be true.
Once you've done this then you should see character units in the layout editor, and you should see that altering the width makes the numbers larger.
This is only half the story though. When you're ready to output the report you'll run with mode=character, and specify a prt file to use in the desformat parameter (by default we'll use dflt.prt). You'll also need to set the required widths inside the prt file that you're going to use to output (for more on prt files consult the on-line help).

6i character mode report migrate to 11g , printing result were incorrect in the same matrix printer?

We got stuck when our 6i character mode report migrate to 11g.
We use the same PC to test, when run 6i report(character mode with 200 column) in legacy system, report result were correct in our matrix printer ,
When running in 11g, if we directly print report via report builder (without preview), result were correct.
But running report via preview/screen mode, printing result were incorrect ( not 200 column width).
We try to adjust PC's printer/paper setting , but our-defined printing option never appeared in printer dialog.
Is anything(config or some setting) we forgot to do in this situation ?

you can replace the column headings with &PAGE_ITEM.
obviously one page item per column header
then use the database to populate the items with your column headings.

How to modify & use Printer Defination files for Character Mode Report

How can use & modify printer defination files for changing formats & orientation in character mode report. I donot know how to use printer defination files I tried to set the system parameter (Desformat) but it doesn't work.

I m also faced same problem that u face,
If u want to make character mode report so plz follow these instructions:
1. Set the properties of Report Name Node in Character Cell is Yes.
2. Change the mode of the System Parameter Mode is Character.
3. Goto the Layout---> Main Section Properties and set the Character Report Width and Height like 132 and 66
4. Create Formula Column and write this code "RETURN(CHR(14));"
5. Goto Layout Model and map this formula column into Header of the Body Like If ur Company Name is "ABC COMPANY" attached with field and map Formula Column.
5. Goto Printer Definition File DFLT.prt open in NotePad and set width and hieght that u set in Main Section of Report.
6. At Last u Run the Report with Some System Parameter or User Parameter and View as Character Mode Report.
In My Case I used EPSON LQ2180 Printer

Help with character mode report

Hi,
I have a character mode report which has a query that generates output of data records that are 100 chars long.
My requirement is to add a header and a footer record that are only 80 chars long. I created a field of width 80 chars in the header and footer sections of layout whose source is a placeholder column of width 80 chars. I have set the width property to 80 in the properties of header and footer section also.
But when I run the report I see that the header and footer records are still 100 chars long - 80 chars of data with trailing null values. How do I make it only 80.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes.. I did that and even that didn't help. I have tried so many things but for some reason it is 100 chars fixed. Any more suggestions....

i changed the layout model to character mode but the main problem is that how do i change the pagesize of the screen to 132*66!
at presenti can view only 80 chars screen!
is there any answer to it !!! can i change this setting so as to view my 132 column report on the screen first and then print on the printer !!

when i run character mode report in browser then display this output properly
but sir problem is that when i print the report
G(use for bold)
is not working
means not print in bold format in printer
same character print G
