Update Combined (Intel) from 10.4.5 to 10.4.8

Wont boot after update. Ends with spinning load symbol. Doesnt go to User Selection.
I have to revert to install DVD (10.4.5) to get back in.
What do I need to do?
Also, I tried to install 10.4.7 and I get the message "You cannot install Mac OSX Update (Intel) on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
Specs:
15.9GB Free
Intel Core Cuo: 1.66
Boot Rom Version: MM11.0055.B03
SMC Version: 1.3f4

You can't install 10.4.7 because the installer recognises that you have 10.4.8 already.
The fix is a bit time-consuming, but you'll need the original MacOS install DVD that came with the mini. Insert that in the system, then reboot with the C key held down to force it to boot from the optical drive.
Once you have the system running, select the option to 'Archive and Install'. This will put a new copy of the original MacOS on your system, while archiving all the settings etc you had. An explanation of the archive and install process is at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
ON EDIT: once you have your mini booted back into 10.4.5 (presumably the MacOS version it was supplied with), you can recover settings from the archived 10.4.8. However, I would generally suggest you DON'T do this unless you really need to, since the problem you had may have been caused by a latent issue with MacOS prior to applying the 10.4.8 combo updater.

  • Update to The 10.4.11 Update Combined(Intel) impossible

    Dear users,
I reinstalled my mac using my Tiger 10.4.4 installation CDs. When I then tried installing the latest update: Mac OS X 10.4.11 Update Combined(Intel) the computer refused.
    The following error message appears:
A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.
    How come ?
Thank you for any type of help.
    Om Shanti

Hi Om shanti, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sounds like you were using Software Update!?
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.
    My advice...
Get the combo update for Intel-based Macs here...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, apply the update.
Repair Permissions after install, then reboot.

  • Mac OS X Update Combined (Intel) 10.4.9 315 MB

    hi,
ok how do i update my os (now at 1..4.5) if this update screws up my computer........it's happened twice.......both times involved really long sessions with mac tech to archive and install.........no apple care and no phone left but they helped me anyway???
so - how do i update my OS X 10.4.9 if it screws it up?
the first time it never stopped loading and
the second time i got the "kernel panic"
(the second time someone else was using my computer when the update came up and decided to install it - after less than a minute the "kernel panic" screen showed up..
    thanks,

    Do the following:
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore. Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Once you have a working clone of your system on an external backup drive you can then update your system. If there are problems you can boot from the backup, erase the internal drive, and restore the old system.
Never install new system updates without first repairing the hard drive and permissions. Quit all applications before updating and do not touch the computer until the installation has completed. If you have third-party peripherals attached temporarily remove them. For additional protection boot into safe mode before installing updates. Turn off automatic updates in Software Update to avoid having other users update your system outside of your control.

  • I am upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I keep getting an error when I try to load the Mac Os x update combined. It says that it was corrupted during download. Have try loading from Apple website V10.6.7 upgrade combined but it still won't do it?

I have an Intel Desktop iMac and I am upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I keep getting an error when it tries to load the Mac OS X update combined. It says that it was corrupted during download. Have try loading from Apple website  Mac OS X V10.6.7 upgrade combined but it still won't do it? Any other suggestions. The printer is not working either - I am not sure if they are connected. Everything else is fine.

Please excuse, but I have to ask an obvious question: Did you already update using the Snow Leopard Retail install DVD? (You must do this first; 10.6.7 is just an update if you already have 10.6.) Are you, then, trying to update from whatever version was on the install DVD to 10.6.7?
Otherwise, I'd keep trying. The 10.6.7 Combo is a huge update.

  • Is there any "contraindication" about installing every updates from Windows Update (and Intel drivers)?

    Hello!
The question is in the title.
I decided to reinstall Windows 7 on my MacBook Air using Boot Camp and I'm trying to play a video game which is quite laggy. I downloaded and installed the lastest driver for HD Graphics 4000 and my computer didn't explode. Can I also download all the optional updates with Windows Update, including the ones concerning drivers? I read somewhere that we shouldn't install other drivers than the ones on the Boot Camp x.x Support Software installer... Is it true?
    Thanks!

    Peter,
From what I read, I thought Internet based clients always download from Microsoft Windows Update first?
"New in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, when you have a software update point that is configured to accept connections from the Internet, Configuration Manager Internet-based clients on the Internet always scan against
this software update point, to determine which software updates are required.
However, when these clients are on the Internet, they first try to download the software updates from Microsoft Update, rather than from an Internet-based distribution point. Only if this fails, will they then try to download the required software updates from
an Internet-based distribution point. Clients that are not configured for Internet-based client management never try to download the software updates from Microsoft Update, but always use Configuration Manager distribution points."

  • Update my mac from 10.4.6 to 10.4.11

Recently I just reinstalled my macbook...
Ok, so I used the Software Update, and I couldnt properly install the one which says that "Mac OS X Updtae Combined (Intel), version--10.4.11".
I read the description of that, which says that it includes Safari3. Then I reaserched on Safari3, it says that only 10.4.10 or newer users can install that. The problem is that my mac is still 10.4.6, (which has a Safari version that is 2.0.3)
what shall I do? my safari often quits unexpectedly.
Should I install from Mac OS X version 10.4.5 to 10.4.11 one by one?
    HELP!

Hi skyhigh911cf, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this, since it sounds like Hard Drive or S problems...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

  • Mac OS X Update Combined v. 10.5.6 wouldn't install

I have a MacBookPro Mac OS X 10.5.4 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM memory, I installed the update to the Mac OS X Update Combined 10.5.6 version, it worked, I click install in the Software Update app., it tells me to restart, I click "restart now" and so far so good.
The installation begins, and it gets stuck at around 10%. I thought maybe it needed time, so I kept it all night, for about 7 hours, the next morning it was still stuck where i left it, it didn't move a tiny bit. So i'm not sure how to get the installation for my update to work, or where am i going wrong (all the other updates were installed successfully except this one)?
    Any suggestions, please.
    Mark

I'm left confused by this discussion... and, I would hate to add to the confusion of others. But here is my problem: If you've downloaded the combo update from the Apple website, there is no need to utilize Software Update to install the program!
Software Update is useful only to the extent that it can alert you to the existence of an available update. It is up to you whether you wish to proceed with the update (via Software Update). My preference, however, is to do as you have done: download the Combo (if available) update from Apple website, then restart your Mac in Safe Boot and install the dmg/pkg that you now have waiting in your "downloads" folder.

  • I would like to update my mac from 10.5.8 to v10.6.8. can you help me

i would like to update my mac from 10.5.8 to v10.6.8. can you help me

Depends on what Mac you have. If it is a PPC (G4 or G5) Mac then Leopard 10.5.8 is as far as you can go.
If it is an Intel Mac:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

just update my iMac from Mountain Lion to Mavericks and the application are slow to open. The same happens to opening webpages . Please help

Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Reinstalling Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • OBIEE 11g - Combine data from two Oracle tables

    Good day!
I tried to combine data from two Oracle tables as fact data, but it doesn't work.
My steps: I created SCOTT.EMP2 table from SCOTT.EMP table, update EMPNO and ENAME values of EMP2 table to distinguish data of my tables. Then I imported physical tables DEPT, EMP and EMP2 to BIEE 11g, created joins DEPT-EMP and DEPT-EMP2 in physical diagram. Then I dragged DEPT and EMP tables to BMM, and EMP2 table to EMP as second LTS. In Content tab for EMP and EMP2 I checked "This source should be combined with other sources at this level" checkboxes. Then I renamed logical tables EMP and DEPT to Employees and Departments and dragged them to Presentation area. In Answers I created Analysis with columns DNAME and ENAME.
The problem is that data on results tab is only from one physical table EMP or EMP2 (depending on the order of sources EMP and EMP2 of LT Employees) and not from both.
Can anybody help? Am I missed something?
    Al.

    Hi Al,
I think you have to define the content of the LTS.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12096_01/books/admintool/admintool_BusModSetup16.html
You have to specify the content of the different fragments.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12096_01/books/admintool/admintool_SetUpAggNav3.html#wp1005333
Maybe you have to add an additional column 'Source' ('EMP1', 'EMP2')

  • The update "Mac OS X update combined (powerpc)" can't be installed?

I recently upgraded from OS X 10.3.9 to Tiger (10.4.6) and encountered a weird problem. My system is a Dual 1GHz G4 (mirror drive door) with 768 MB RAM.
When I try to launch iTunes, I get an error telling me that "iTunes requires Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later..."
That never happened before, so I assume that the Tiger installation (or a Software Update I was unaware of) sabotaged iTunes by imposing this new requirement.
Now here's the irony: I can't install OS X 10.4.7! When I run Software Update, it tries to install Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC) 10.4.10-- but it fails every time with the message:
The update "Mac OS X update combined (powerpc)" can't be installed.
The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by "Apple."
So this seems to be a transmission error, or something wrong with Apple's server. I've tried this repeatedly over the last few days, but nothing changes.
Any suggestions? I tried downloading the installer from Apple's download page, but it results in the same error. Is there perhaps a clean version of 10.4.8 I can download from somewhere?
It's really frustrating not being able to run iTunes because of an OS "upgrade."

Then, stop using Software Update, click the Downloads link at the page's top, and manually download the COMBO update. As for iTunes, apparently you installed a later version. With 10.4.6, your quite a few updates behind: OS, security, iTunes, and QuickTime, just to name a few. Before you update, be sure you make a bootable backup/clone. Details for doing that are in these:

  • The update "Mac OS X Update Combined" can't be saved.

A few days ago my mac ( late 2009 model MacBook pro running lion 10.7.2 ) started freezing, a lot. The freezing seemed to be a problem with osx itself rather than with any particular program. So I initiated software update hoping that there would be an osx update. Low and behold, there was.
Here is the problem.... I can't get it. I have tried twice and both times I get this message
"The update “Mac OS X Update Combined” can’t be saved.
The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs."
    Any ideas?

Ok this problem has developed somewhat.
My machine has gone from bad freezing spells to being downright broken.
I rebooted the machine and got stuck at login screen.
Rebooted again and didn't get to login screen.
Rebooted again and got logged in but my desktop was unresponsive and then started flashing between the desktop image and a plain grey screen. I did this literally all night (left it over night).
So today I have booted up from an install of lion I have on an external FireWire drive. And all is well. I am trying to backup things like my photo library and other documents so that I can format the internal hard drive and and do a clean install.
I can access the hard drive, see all the files, but when trying to copy it over I get an error message saying
"the finder can't complete the operation because some data in "iPhoto library" can't be read or written ( error code -36 )
Now before anyone screams broken hard drive, the data can be read, because I can view it all in finder. Just can't copy it out to an external drive.
    Please help!!
Oh ps. Before booting from the external I created a new admin account on my machine and booted int that. The freezing problem was the same as in my normal account.

  • Acrobat 9.4.4 patch stops combine files from MS Word

Yesterday morning, I was able to use the right click and "Combine supported files in Acrobat" repeatedly and just fine.
Then the updates came. Unfortunately we installed them on most of the computers in our office (except for one that was off), and so now every patched computer in my office is not able to use the 'combine supported files in Acrobat' without locking up on the first file.  One of the computers gave a DDE error box, but I wasn't there to see it.
The computer that didn't receive the patch continues to work just fine.
I called tech support and he said it must have been a setting on my computer, because that's what his cue card says. This problem is across multiple platforms, (Vista AND 7 Pro) and with Word 2007, and Word 2010.  Everyone was working in the morning, and was broke after the patches. Please reply to this so that Adobe will wake up and realize there were issues with the patch, and not ask me to pay for the tech support fee.
