Update crashed my mac
I decided it was time to update to snow leopard. Added 1 gb of memory for a total of 1.28 gb. then installed snow leopard. computer worked fine, liked what i saw of the new os.
system update informed me that i need to install 8 new updates. when i tried to do this i was given an error on unpacking the new updates after the reboot. computer instructed to reboot, and when i tried to do this my mac went to the apple screen with the spinning wheel of death. i call it that at this point because it just remains at the screen and never progresses.
I have rebooted my mac numerous times. I have reset the pram. I have inserted the snow leopard disk and tried to reboot holding down alt and rebooting holding c. The snow leopard disk appears to be stuck in my mac now.
I am assuming at this point that i must have had corrupted data on my hard drive that i did not know about. I am more that willing to reset back to factory specs if i could get this mac to respond at all.
any help would be appreciated, but please explain how to do what you advise as i am not very computer literate. Thank you.

Thanks for ya'lls advice. I think it was coincidental. My mouse is the problem, hardware, not software. Sorry about that Adobe.
Reset your PRAM
Shut the Mac down completely.
Holding the Cmd+Opt+P+R keys, press the power button.
Listen for the "startup chime" to sound three times and release the keys.
Your mouse and keyboard should work much better.

Tiger Update Crashes my Mac Mini Intel
I got a new Mac Mini and finally got it going though it was not easy to transfer from my eMac. But I prevailed. Then I made the fatal mistake of updating all that the Software Update software suggested. Now my brand new Mac Mini will not run at all.
REWIND: I tried to update my eMac a couple of weeks ago to Tiger. I did that and ran Software Update and GUESS WHAT? It crashed my eMac so badly I had to reinstall ALL the Panther software.
Did Microsoft buy Apple???I figured out the problem last night after a week of gnashing, grumping, and general anxiety. Hope this post helps others with a similar problem.
I have a free Lexmark 1150 All-In-One printer attached to my Mac. Apparently Tiger DOES NOT like the Lexmark application that turns off the printer during Restart and Shutdown. The application is in Library/Startupwhatever folder and I just trashed the Lexmarksleep..app (whatever it is named - I'm at work and cannot remember the exact name) and erased it.
Now my Mac Mini is back working like a Mac - PERFECT.

Adobe After Effects CC 2014 just updated crashes on Mac OS X just updated too.
I did both updates just now and this is what I get on start-up:
Changing operating systems often has the potential for issue.
Changing software versions comes with possible workflow issues.
I don't know of anybody in an active post-production environment who would change both things unless they had other machines to fall back on in case something went awry with their upgrades. If you're just one person and you're not working under any deadlines, it's not risky at all. I just tend to think in terms of active post houses. -
After the latest Security Update 2012-001 (Mac OS X 10.6.8) my Adobe Photoshop CS 8, Dreamweaver 8, and InDesign CS programs crash when I try to save a file. HELP!!!
Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
You might wish to read:
http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
- You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
- Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
- Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
- Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

.mac & system updates crash when I try to run them. I think it has something to do with isync, but not sure. I repaired the permissions, zapped the P-ram. What else can I do?

Message was edited by: Carla MiddletonCould be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
An Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc...

ColdFusion 8 Fails to start after update Java for Mac OSX 10.5 Update 4
I have been using ColdFusion on a Mac for years. Now CF fails to start after I updated Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4. I usually start by typing in the terminal window sudo /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin/ColdFusion start.
There is a crash report but I don't know how to read it. See attached.
Please help, I need this working for my job.
Thanks...ColinDear Craig,
Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB RAM
I'm sure that this is 64-bit
CF 8.0.1 Enterprise Build 3080
I had moved the Java SE 6 to the top in both Plugin and Applications. The
correct version is showing in the terminal window. See below.
Last login: Thu Jun 18 11:27:09 on ttys001
Beta-4:~ Colin$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_13"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_13-b03-211)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.3-b02-83, mixed mode)
Beta-4:~ Colin$
CF will not start. I have the activity monitor open, and when I start CF you
see it in the activity monitor for a few seconds as it starts up. When the
message process is completed in the terminal window CF disappears in the
activity monitor.
Any suggestions?
C
Hi, Colin,
My apologies but I forgot to ask 2 questions: (1) What kind of Mac you have
(Intel or PowerPC)? (2) What version of CF are you running and what installer
did you choose (8 or 8.0.1, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.)?
To start, try the following:
1. Normally you'd shut CF down first ... but that's not necessary for you
2. Open Java Preferences again
3. Select Java SE 6 and move it (drag) to the top spot in both section (Applet
Plugin and Applications)
4. Open Terminal
5. Type java -version (you should see 1.6.0_13 as the new version)
6. Try to start CF again
This may not work (I've had issues with it) but it's technically how it's
supposed to work. With the Java Preferences utility, you're visually setting a
default JVM (you can do it with commands in Terminal but this is much faster
and easier).
If CF still won't start, look for the jvm.config file in your CF application
folder (try /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin or
/Applications/ColdFusion8/runtime/bin -- the latter is where a jvm.config file
is on my machine for a particular version of CF that's installed similar to
yours). You can override the JVM in this file but, hopefully, that won't be
necessary!

"Software Update" crashes upon download
Last week I was given a new Mac mini as a gift; I upgraded the memory to 2G; did Target Disk transfer from my old G4, then started using it (didn't use it before the memory or the transfer).
Software Update crashes at the point when the download has just started, every time, even with individual small downloads. Other symptoms: Safari crashes upon start-up, any Widgets that look up info crash when they go get data. Firefox works but crashes accessing some video, same with Explorer.
I have manually downloaded and upgraded to OSX 10.4.9. System can't recognize/mount the .dng download file to upgrade to 10.4.10 (I manually downloaded the Combo Intel). Java is 10.4.2, but when I try to install Java 10.4 Release 5, it tells me to upgrade to the previous version first (which is already installed).
I suspect this is a Java and downloading glitch. Does Software Update rely on Java? Any ideas? I've searched the message boards for this problem, but haven't found anyone else with this problem.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.MarkinArlington wrote:
Thank you for your reply. I used the Setup Assistant to migrate from my G4.
That's probably the cause of your issues. Apparently, the Setup Assitant will sometimes migrate (PowerPC-specific) system files over to Intel-based Macs (causing many odd problems), so using it to migrate from a PPC to an Intel Mac isn't recommended.
Unfortunately, you will have to re-install Mac OS X to solve your issues (trying to figure out which specific files are causing the issues will probably be too long, with little chance of success); I don't know whether an Archive & Install is enough to fix this, but perhaps someone else knows? Otherwise you could ask in the Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger > Installation & Setup forum. If you need to do an Erase & Install, you will lose all data on your hard drive, so you'll need to create a backup of all your user files first. -
Java update 1 for MAC OS 10.6 caused problems
Hello,
Today I installed the new java update 1 for Mac OS 10.6 and my eclipse is no longer working.
Actually, the eclipse itself is starting up okay, the problem is when I try to startup jboss AS to start working I get the following error:
ERROR: This jdwp native library will not work with this VM's version of JVMTI (1.0.36), it needs JVMTI 1.1[.102].
This happened right after I installed the update.
To make things more complicated, my workspace in eclipse is set to compile/deploy with a JDK 5 installation I have. Since the update was supposed to only affect the JDK 6 that comes with Snow Leopard, and I'm not using it to run JBoss AS in eclipse, in theory there shouldn't be any problem.
The eclipse itself is running on JDK 6, however.
Anyone have a clue? Unfortunately I'm not using time machine and cannot revert the update.I updated my Snow Leopard on Friday 4th, and since that moment i can't run MyEclipse 7.5, and i get this message:

after lion 10.7.3 update messed my mac had to restore from time machine now Outlook won't connect with microsoft exchange, any idea?
I've had a similar problem. On my first boot up after installing 10.7.4, Firefox would not open. Crashed every time. Safari was not affected. I have no idea if it was related to the flash plugin, but I did install a the latest version of that a couple of weeks ago.
Here's what fixed it: a second boot up. -
Dreamweaver CS5.5, v11.5, Build 5366 keeps crashing with Mac OS 10.7.5. This started a few weeks ago. Dreamweaver crashes at random time so I cannot pinpoint one thing that causes it. It just crashed as I was trying to adjust margins in a style sheet. I have tried deleting preferences and reinstalling the software. Both worked for a day or 2 and then the crashes started again. I'm at the point now where I have to save after every change so I don't lose them…but that isn't allowing me to experiment before saving. This is very frustrating. Were there any releases beyond build 5366 or v11.5? When I check for updates, I am told that my software is up to date.
I have no idea what to try next. When DW starts acting weird, the first thing to try is Deleting Corrupted Cache in DW. Be sure to turn on hidden files & folders in your Mac Finder.

If that doesn't help, try Restore Preferences

If all else fails, use the CC Cleaner Tools below followed by a software re-install.

Adobe Updater Crashing enough already
I have seen this in the past in CS2 and now see it in CS3 where if I launch Updater 5 for CS3 from Adobe Utilities or if I run Check for Updates from any of the applications the Updater crashes.
This is really annoying because it pops up every time I launch the apps too.
The current problem is happening on a fresh archive install of Leopard, and a fresh Adobe CS3 design standard install.
Console shows this every time the updater runs:
11/14/07 12:05:23 PM [0x0-0x2f02f]."com.Adobe.ESD.AdobeUpdaterApplication"[538] terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
11/14/07 12:05:23 PM [0x0-0x2f02f]."com.Adobe.ESD.AdobeUpdaterApplication"[538] what(): Unable to determine registration filepath!
11/14/07 12:05:29 PM com.apple.launchd[120] ([0x0-0x2f02f]."com.Adobe.ESD.AdobeUpdaterApplication"[538]) Exited abnormally: Abort trap
I have tried from different user accounts, from Root, and I tried in the past on another machine with the same issue in CS2. I also tried in Safe Boot.
Any help or insight would be appreciated and no I shouldn't have to do a complete erase and reinstall of everything.I am getting crashes as well, but the symptoms may be a bit different. Updater runs for a while before crashing. Lots of disk activity. It appears to be running away doing memory allocations from looking at the crash trace.
My system is 10.5.1 and Photoshop CS3.

Anyone having trouble with the new update for 2010 mac book air 10.8.2?
Anyone having trouble with the new update for 2010 mac book air 10.8.2 ? My 2010 Macbook Air has crashed 15times since the 10.8.2 update. Have only once since owning it.
Turned out the hardware was bad. Apple exchanged it for a new Mac Air and the new trackpad works great. Thank goodness it was a defect. If the trackpads all worked like that I would have been bummed.
