i need help updating cs4 adobe, keep getting error window saying. installer failed to initialize

Still doesn't tell us much more than the first post. This forum thrives on details.
Which Adobe CS4 software exactly do you own? Is it a Creative Suite or standalone software such as Photoshop
What exactly are you trying to update? Photoshop or something else?

I tried the task manager and then end task but I have a warning window that opens up saying that doing this will destabilize the system.
By the way to avoid having to upgrade to camera raw 5.7, I tried buying the cs6 upgrade but my order was blocked due to a system error so I have to wait several hours, cancel the order and try again. What is the matter with Adobe? They certainly do not make it easy to work with them.

Unable to update CS4?????

Just reinstalled CS4 because I just did a clean install from 10.6 from 10.5.I thought I would have no problems but upon trying to update CS4 it told me it had no updates avail????? Is there an issue with CS4 and 10.6? The programs themselves run fine just can't update it. Running a mac pro 2x3ghz quad with 4 GB ram.

just wish the installer would use 80% of my computer's processing power and writing power. The uninstall + install literally takes 2-4 hours, such a lengthy process and I can't even use the internet browser during this time.. it says I must close it before I begin.

EDIT:
I find it completely odd that the installer asks me to close my web browser firefox. It doesn't even have any open handles to any Adobe
files. I wonder why this is. It wouldn't in the first place because it doesn't even have any plugins or extensions from adobe, (besides flash player but that's seperate from CS4.)

Can't Update CS4 on New Laptop Running Windows 7 64bit

I just upgraded a 2 year old slow laptop running 32 bit Vista to a brand new Asus G73JW laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. It is a really fast laptop with 8G RAM, 1.5GB dedicated graphics card, full 1920 x 1080 HD res, solid state drive for operating drive etc. It is a beast of a laptop that boots up fully in about 10 seconds and it was built for HD gamers. Needless to say I am pretty excited to get to work on my favourite Adobe software, which is Premiere Pro and Photoshop mostly.
Everything on the laptop works great but... I installed my CS4 Production Premium without a problem, however, the Adobe Updater will not work. I tried it about 10 times now, rebooting, trying various programs to try the updates etc, to no avail. They are very important updates, as the software will not function properly in several programs without the updates. I can't find anything about this specific issue, has anyone had this problem with Windows 7 64 bit?
FYI everything worked fine with the Vista 32 bit, including updates.
I am pretty frustrated now and I just want to start using the software, and I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone may have.
I already have an e-mail in to Asus to find out if the latest NVidia GTX 460M graphics card driver can be updated on my system. There are a few other drivers I am looking into updating as well to see if that will help.

All Adobe updates start here and select product, install in number order, updates may not be cumulative http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
As to your overall problem, Win7 has a lot of automatic security settings that you may need to fix

Recent Item list not updating CS4

Haven't found any other reports about this on the forum, but the Welcome Screen on my copy of ID CS4 6.0 isn't updating to show the most recent documents, but seems to be displaying a static list.
The files listed under Open Recent in the file menu are correctly displayed.
Before I submit a bug report, I'd be interested to know if this is an anomaly only on my system and if anyone has a workaround.
CS4 Master Collection fully updated. Win XP SP3 in 2Gb RAM.

On the application menu recent list I have a file I in the #1 position that I haven't opened since the day I installed the program. THAT's annoying.

Update CS4 website to CS6 or CC

I have a 6 year old website created with Dreamweaver CS4 that still works - www.phdqualprep.com - but I want to update it so I can use new features in CS6 or CC. What is the easiest and quickest way to get all the pages, graphics, and Spry assets into Dreamweaver CS6 without having to spend hours extracting each individual text section and graphic and import them into new Dreamweaver CS6 files? Can I simply define the site in CS6, enter the ftp info and connect to my ISP?
Also, is it okay to use Dreamweaver CS6 instead of CC - because I do not like the new UI in CC and I am not sure it will work with my older Mac OS X 10.6.8 ?

There's nothing to extract or import. HTML, CSS and JavaScript code works in all versions of DW. You simply need to define your site in DW CS6 or CC. Site > New Site.

Adobe Updater keeps doing the same update (CS4 Air 1.5)

Every time I run Adobe Updater it finds the same 100 Mb update - Flash 10.0.0.1 Adobe AIR 1.5 Update. Then, it downloads it and installs it. It notifies me that the installing process was completed. But when I run the Adobe Updater again, there is the same update. And it just goes on and on. I've even tried logging in as root and running the updater in case it needs to modify something outside normal bounds but it didn't help.
Does anyone have suggestions as to where the problem might be? I know some of you really prefer to install everything manually but I'm still considering that the last resort - if I can get the automatic updater to work, I'm a happy camper again!

version number.
For a quick check you can try creating an AIR package or an
AIR preview. If everything works smooth then the installation would
have been a success.
The other details related to installation on a Mac should be
seen on all other Adobe app and not restricted to Fireworks alone.

Trying to open a saved down idml file in CS4. Updated CS4 but still missing plugins?

I'm trying to open both an inx file as well as an idml file exported from CS5. I have CS4 and it is updated as far as it will go, but it still says I'm missing plugins. And a lot too... 19 of them! Does anyone know how I can get these plugins? It's requesting them for both the inx file and the idml file.

That is indicative of someone simply renaming an INDD file to IDML. In other words, that file wasn’t EXPORTED from anything. It was saved with a different extension or renamed after saving.

Updating CS4 Camera Raw to show Nikon D700 in camera photo controls & ADR

I am trying to get Nikon D700 images using their picture controls and ADR to show in Camera Raw. I understand later updates do this. Now I just get the flat Raw data when I open the NEF file --- NEF showing on Bridge shows the picture control colors; NEF in Raw does not.
But download fails repeatedly for the CS4 update 5.7 Message is "Camera Raw 5.7 updater.dmg could not be saved because an unknown error occured." The desktop shows two fines, one the .dmg shown as a disk, the other a blank file named OOELvLnz.pdf.part. Trying the download again yet another blank file came onto desktop called OkSFJR48.pdf.part And so on always a different blank file name and same error message on the download.
So first, is 5.7 the correct update? What else do I have to do to see ADR and incamera photo controls in Camera Raw? And what other options to download an update? Thanks for the advice.

you are kind to suggest this but why is there no one at Adobe to just answer my questions? This is not something for some amateur to give me advice on -- I want the programmers and inventors of the actual program and updates to tell me so I get the right answer in one place. I have now had four emails from someone at Adobe and none of them even apologize for not answering.

Update - cs4 design premium

I have found that my startup drive has just lost 10gigs or so of space., ie 10 gigs has been used up.
I use design premium cs4 and it was installed on an external drive although it initially had to be installed on the startup drive. I ran the updates today and it updated photoshop indesign the media encoder and another which i didnt notice. I can only think that this has somehow affected the startupdrive in some way - although all the applications are still on the external drive and not on the startup drive.
Any ideas to get my 10 gigs back, please.

Problem solved. It wasnt the cs4 updates. It was to do with my idisk mirror which I had trashed
The lost 10GIgs was sitting in the trash as the idisk mirror, I emptied it and got my 10 Gigs back!!

Adobe Updater CS4 Crashes

I am running CS4 Design Premium on a P4 3.2 HT w/ 2GB of RAM. OS is WinXP Everytime I run the updater, it crashes within two seconds. This is the information I get

You might try creating another user account (testUser) and seeing if those installers will function properly there, under a clean account...

Updating CS4 Production Premium

I just installed CS4 Production Premium (Windows) and I'm trying to update it manually in here Product updates - Adobe
Do I have to download and install all updates or are the newest ones enough?
For example "Adobe After Effects CS4 9.0.3 Update" and "Adobe After Effects CS4 9.0.2 update"

Marqs83 the updates are cumulative for the Creative Suite 4 products with the exclusion of Acrobat. Acrobat updates do need to be installed in order of update version.

Problems with updating CS4 Using Updater

CS4 problems. I purchased New iMac and Migrated setting and apps from old computer. Got error messages for several of the CS4 apps when trying to open. I uninstalled CS4 and reinstalled. Checked for updates and installed but several of the apps such as PS, FL, FW, etc. do not update even though the updater states that everything updated. As a test, I downloaded and tried updating PS 11.0 to 11.02 but it states that it's already updated. PS still v. 11.0

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, manually delete the caps.db in the caps folder:

Adobe Updater finds No Updates (CS4) in Yosemite

I have a problem that should have been addressed in this article:

but the solution doesn't work.
I re-installed CS4 Design Premium on my Mac after installing a fresh install of Yosemite. Once all this was done I expected Adobe Updater to automatically add updates like it has everytime I've re-installed it. But instead there was nothing. Upon manually running Adobe Updater it reports that there are no updates to be installed. This is obviously wrong and I know I am missing out on these updates.
Any ideas? Thank you.

ich habe seit kurzem das Problem das Dateien, die mit Quark erstellt wurden und mit Quark2Indesign ins Indesign umgewandelt wurden,
im CS5.5 nach banalen Änderungen das Programm abstürzen lassen.
Beispiel: Ich möchte bei einem Text, an einer gewissen Stelle, eine Leerzeile hinzufügen => Crash
Das komische ist, es stürzt nur an bestimmten Stellen ab (Je Dokument an verschiedenen Stellen, aber alle Abstürze sind reproduzierbar)
Die meisten Dateien die abstürzen, sind im Quark erstellt wurden. Dort waren Tabellen und Rahmen tief verschachtelt.
Und die meisten Abstürze passieren auch bei Änderungen in solch einer verschachtelten Tabelle.
Es hat immer funktioniert im CS4 ... Nur das CS5.5 macht Probleme.

einen Export ohne Script habe ich schon versucht.
Datei als IDML gespeichert, dann wieder in InDesign geöffnet und neu als INDD-Datei abgespeichert.
Dann geschlossen und wieder geöffnet.
Hast Du zufällig einen Link zu so einem Skript parat?
