Update data source in Crystal report

hi there
i have some CR in PROD, now they are needed to do a test in DEV first, when i refresh the report, it will prompt to ask me login, so i choose to login to DEV system, but i found some reports are not updated to the DEV, some do, i also found those reports failed to update to the DEV because they have sub reports
is there way to update data source for those reports with sub-reports when i login to DEV?

Click on Database, Set Location and choose your Database and server. Highlight the connections and click on the OK or Update button. Do this for each table also and for each subreport.

Writing and including our own customer data source to Crystal Report Design

Hi,
I need to create a Crystal Report based on a locally stored XML and schema. I can do this but the issue Iu2019m facing is that some tags used in the schema and the format is not supported by Crystal. So my plan is to write a database driver which will take our format and then convert it to the format Crystal supports and vise versa. To do this before writing the driver I need to know if itu2019s possible to include my custom database driver source in to the list that is shown in the Crystal Report Designer when selecting a data source to create a report. Is there such an API available so that I can plugin my data source to Crystal Report Designer? Is this at least possible to do or is there another way?

Hi Chanaka,
Not directly. If you base your driver on OLD DB or ODBC then it will show up in those lists.
If you are planning on selling a lot of packages then you may want to contact our OEM Sales team and sign up. You'll have more resources to do customized features like this. Not sure if we can but the option is there.

2.5 GB CSV file as data source for Crystal report

Hi Experts,
I was asked to create a crystal report using crystal report as datasource(CSV file that is pretty huge (2.4Gb)). Could you help with me any doc that expalins the steps mainly with data connectivity.
Objective is to create Crystal Report using that csv file as data source, save the report as .rpt with the data and send the results to customer to be read with Crystal Reports Viewer or save the results to PDF.
Please help and suggest me steps as I am new to crystal reports and CSV as source.

The issue of having some records with comma and some with a semi colon will need to be resolved before you can do an import. Assuming that there are no semi colons in any of the text values of the report, you could do a "Find & Replace" to convert the semi colons to commas.
If find & replace isn't an option, you'll need to get the files separately.
I've never used the Import Export Wizzard myself. I've always used the BULK INSERT command
It would look something like this...
BULK INSERT SQLServerTableName
FROM 'c:\My_CSV_File.csv'
WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ',')
This of course implies that your table has the same columns, in the same order as the csv files and that each column is the correct data type to accept the incoming data.

Hierarchical Data Source in Crystal Reports Options

We are trying to use Crystal Reports in VS2005 and set the data source
to a list of our objects.
      Dim list As New BindingList(Of Payslip)
      Dim Report2 As New CrystalReport2()
      Report2.SetDataSource(list)
This works fine when we are just considering the Payslip class in
isolation. However we have a property on Payslip which contains a list
of another class Element.
   Public Property Elements() As BindingList(Of Element)
      Get
         Return _Elems
      End Get
      Set(ByVal Value As BindingList(Of Element))
         _Elems = Value
      End Set
   End Property
We would like to be able to display the Elements in the report, in a
sub report ideally. However we cannot find a way of doing this. We can
tell Crystal Reports how to link an Element to a PaysSlip, but not how
to get to the Elements in the first place (i.e. by going through the
property called Elements).
How can we achieve this?

The fundamental data model of Crystal Reports is relational and not object hierarchial.
Are you able to transform the object hierarchy to a relational model?

How to create a report using XML data source from Crystal Report Designer

Hi,
Iu2019m having Crystal Report Designer XI R2 SP4. Iu2019m trying to create a report using XML data source stored on disk. This is a customer order report and the xml is structured in such a way that it has an order details header part (master) and then it has several order lines (detail). One order line can have several order line characteristics (detail-detail). So what I need to know is now I can design this layout from the designer. If this was done using views I can do it with sub-reports but using xml data this seems to be different. Can you help me to design this layout? I have included the xml and xsd as well.

Thank you for the response and ideas you have given me so far. I can get the fetch the data from the data source without any problem. That is I do the following,
1. New Report
2. From Create New Connection-> XML
3. Provide the u201CLocal XML Fileu201D and have u201CSpecify Schema Fileu201D checked -> Next
4. Provide the u201CLocal Schema Fileu201D -> Finish
Then I can see the following under XML

Best Data source for Crystal Reports

Hi Experts,
We have decided to use Crystal Reports 2008, for our project & advised to use BO Universe(based on Dimensional model) as data source against using the Dimensional tables directly(in Oracle).
Since the Universes are based on Dimensional model, typically I have to link two or three Universes for each report. I am concerned about the query performance time involved for the Universe approach vs. using the Dimensional tables directly.
I understand Universe as Meta-Data layer that hides all the database complexity from the end-user, and is a favorable option for Adhoc reports created by end users.
But for developers who are going to create 400 odd reports, I don't see any advantage that Universe brings, compared to linking the tables at Crystal Designer.
And we do not want to write customized Stored Procedures for every report, so our options are Universe/ Oracle tables.

IMHO, the Universe is fantastic for sophisticated end users (who have a general knowledge of logic or a logical mind) to build ad hoc reports. (Less sophisticated users should not be given the ability to design reports.) It should not be used for production reports that will run frequently, as performance can deteriorate quickly. (This is particularly true if you design the universe with the intent to build multiple reports off of one logical view. You tend to do a lot of extra work to gather data that is not needed for the task at hand. Our universe was designed this way - before I got here... I tend not to use it on new reports...)
There is no question in my mind that direct SQL will be the most performant way to develop the reports. In fact, I'd even suggest using SQL Commands as the basis for the reports so the database does all of the heavy lifting of table linking, record selection, sorting, and summarizing. That's what databases are built to do! (I know Crystal is supposed to push what it can to the database, but its definition of what the database can do is very generalized, so a lot ends up on the Crystal server.) This is particularly true if the Crystal server is not the same box as the database server; you don't want to pump huge volumes of data over the network! The downside to this is that some logic tends to get duplicated. This can be minimized by creating additional data (fields, tables, or aggregate tables) in the database, which are populated by one program (where the logic resides) and used by all of the reports. (For example, "definitions" based on data values should be table driven.)

Universe as data source for Crystal Reports

Are there any issues in using a Universe as the data source for a crystal reports? We are using Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 and Crystal Reports XI R2.

Hi,
We can have a parameter from a Universe, following are the steps which will create the report which is based a Universe with a parameter.
-connect to the universe and you will a Query Panel.
-drag some objects in the Result Objects field. Ex. Country, Revenue.
-then drag an object in the Query Filter. Ex. Country.
-then a new window will appear as Filter Editor.
-Select the prompt option and also select the check box as u201CSelect only from listu201D.
-Click on Ok.
When you refresh the report then there will be a parameter prompting for the Country field. Also you will see a parameter created automatically in the parameter list.
However if you try to create a new parameter (without modifying anything from the query panel) by with the following workflow then there is no option to select the field for the parameter.
-Right click on Parameter fieldsu2014New parameter.
-When you click on the drop down list in the u201CValue Fieldu201D list there are no available fields/objects.
Hence we can create a parameter in CR which is connected to the Universe with the steps mentioned above.

Error ora-24338 happened when change data source on crystal report

Hi Guys:
I made a report on my test envariment (this report involve stored procedure and it return a ref cursor from oracle database to the report). after i test it, i decided to move this report to the production database. However when i updated the database location, it shows me the following error:
database connector error: 'ORA-24338': statement handle not executed [database wender code: 24338]
then it shows:
some tables could not be replaced, as no match was found in the new data source. please spacify the table required for any unmodified tables.
then it shows:
database connection error
all the tables and code in test database and production database are same.
anyone can help me?

after you went to database
set datasource location
updated it.
did a mapping box come up
did you then verify the database to pull in the new records or tables?
i would run the query on the server to see if it returns values.
you may also need to set your overqualified table name
database
set datasource
locate the table or sp in the top box
the + next to the sp or table
click
open properities +
overqualified table name F2
enter the table or sp in there
then verify your database and try to run against the prod server

Web service as a data source in Crystal Reports 2008

I've tried to setup a new report using a web service as a data source.
Untill now, I have not been successful. I always get the same error: unable to log on to data source.
Is there any sample that I can try so that I understand what I'm doing wrong?
Or any documentation on the subject?

Having the same issues here also.
I can see the wsdl file being accessed successfully in the web access log, but Xcelsius v5.3 return "unable to load URL"
Only thing I can guess is that the schema is "untyped"
So, nobody in SAP has a solution?

Unable to change data source of any report

Hello there,
I am using the Crystal Reports Eclipse plugin. I added a datasource to Eclipse 3.3 which connects to a Oracle database using JDBC.
Now I want to change the data source of a report. I get a popup window which displays the old data source with all tables and columns on the left side. On the right side of the window I see the name of the new data source at the top, but a list of "remove" options below it with a red cross in front (see screenshot).
It does not matter if I want to change an existing report or a new report.
I can create a new report with a datasource, but even when I want to change to the same datasource as already assigned to the report, I get the problem described above.
I already followed some tips found in this forum, e.g. expanding all used tables in the data source explorer etc., but this did not help.
I know that there was also a possibility to remove the "data source" information completely from the query (as mentioned at http://technicalsupport.businessobjects.com/KanisaSupportSite/search.do;jsessionid=2F140BDBA03E8E97EEF1E15F84964F12?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=c2017570&sliceId=&dialogID=13402443&stateId=1%200%2013406567), but I cannot find this option in Crystal reports for Eclipse. I see a field "qualified name" in the properties of each table of my report, but this field is read-only...

Doesn't anyone have an answer to this problem? I would just like to change the datasource of a report. But I am not able to do so, because the only option I have in the dialog is to remove all tables.

Using Web Service as Data source (Pluggable Data Source) in Oracle Reports

Anyone using Webservice as a pluggable data source in oracle 10g reports.(Report builder version:10.1.2.0.2)? We need to be able to use web service as one of the data source to create reports.Tried the following and ran into issues:
Imported the wspds.jar fle from oracle plugin exchage. When tried using it received the following error in oracle reports trace file.
04/26 22:27:22 java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.xml.parser.schema.XSDBuilder.build([Loracle/xml/parser/v2/XMLDocument;Ljava/net/URL;)Ljava/lang/Object;
By troubleshooting issue found out that xmlparserv2.jar in 10g is newer than xmlparserv2.jar in 9i. wspds.jar is using xmlparserv2.jar in 9i as it was developed and tested for 9i only. Believe there is no newer wspds.jar file developed specifically for 10g?
Is there a better/standard solution to use webservice as data source in oracle 10g reports? Does later version of oracle reports supports webservice as a data source without any additional plugins? Any suggestion would be helpful.

It appears that Oracle 10g reports doesn't support Web Service as pluggable data source. Is this option is available in Oracle 11g Reports or Oracle Discoverer Or OBIEE?

How Do I Display HTML Formatted Text From A Data Table In Crystal Reports?

I'm creating reports in Crystal XI. The information being displayed in the reports comes from data tables where the text is formatted in HTML.
I've worked with Crystal Reports enough to know that HTML text pulled from a data table doesn't appear in Crystal the same way it does in a web browser. Crystal Reports ignores all the tags (...unless I'm missing something...) and just displays the text.
Someone far more Crystal savy than I (...who I don't have access to...) came up with a Formula Field workaround that tricks Crystal Reports into displaying some basic HTML tags. Here's that workaround:

To display html text in Crystal Reports follows these steps.
1. Right click on the field and select Paragraph tab.
2. Under 'Text Interpretation' select 'HTML Text' and click OK.

How to register/configure a Data Provider with Crystal Report Designer

Iu2019m in the process of developing an ADO .Net XML Data Provider which works with Data Sets. I want to use this custom Data Provider through Crystal Report Designer 2008 so that I can access it from the u201CStandard Report Creation Wizard\Available Data Sourcesu201D section. How can I do this? I read the following in the u201Ccreating custom adddins.docu201D documentation.
u201CCrystal Reports (CR) 2008 installs a new managed dll called DotNetExternalCommandAdapter.DLL and installs it into the Global Assembly Cache (GAC). CR 2008 uses this dll to search and load files with a csc prefix in CR 2008u2019s AddIns subdirectory in a similar way it looks for database drivers, export drivers and UFLs. To create an Add-In the developer needs to reference this dll and inherit two classes from it, ICommand and ICommandDLL.u201D
I have the following questions,
1) As it mentions above how can I make Crystal find my custom Data Provider when it searches for the database drivers?
2) Is there another class I can inherit from when creating my custom data provider? If so where can I find some documentation regarding this?
3) Can I register my custom data provider in to the GAC and will Crystal find it if so how can I register my custom Data Provider? Will GACUtil work for Crystal as well?

Report painter -output parameters,Data source,Extract parameter, report

Hi expert,
1)What report painter -output parameters,Data source,Extract parameter, report mean for and what are the difference?
2)I have create new report painter and transport to Test server using T-code:GCTR and I find that the T-code always point to old report. As I had check the SE93 the D_SREPOVARI-REPORT is point to report group.Why this happen?
3) Does creation of new report or modification of the report always need to select the extraction option so that it will able to display the relected changes? Because, I have done modification on the report but it is not reflected the changes even i save until i have to create the extraction is able to display the report but every time i run the report need to select the extraction with option to choose new extract or old. Kindly advice how to save and create the report painter and save will display reflected result .

I have few querys as below:
1)Do we every time create new report by copying the existing report painter need to select output parameter, data source and extract parameter in order to be able to display the new report?
2)when modify existing report painter and save it do we need to select output parameter, data source and extract parameter in order to be able to display the modify report correctly?
3) What are the different between right click copy the report inreport painter compare with create report painter with copy GRR1?
4) What are the T-code for modify the report group?
5) When I create a new report with the right click copy in GRR1 and modify the report painter column only and everything remain the same just the report name different why when execute the report it always appear in the selection screen with report button which have option button to select the 2 version of report which one is the destination report that I copy from and one is the new report? How to set the report when execute will only display the new report only without need to select the option with just new report only?
6)For transferring reports you can use GR37 (export) and GR38 (import) can be use to transport from one client to another client? What is difference between GR37 compare with GCTR?
7) If I use GR37 and GR38 it is mean no need to create the transport request which as usual we create transport se10?
