Update deleted my music library

First, I tried to manually sync 2 songs but it said "Iphone could not be synced. Internal error has occurred." So I tried to update both itunes and my iphone. It didn't work nd it deleted my music library. Help

@shadow221, unfortunately that method only retured my previously backedup photos and nothing else. After attempting restoring it back to a few Backups with failed attempts, I just gave up.
Some users mentioned doing a complete restore to factory setting and do a backup but it just screwed with my ipod and no music back. So i just let it be. I reloaded my old tracks from iTunes, my Apps, unfortunately iTunes doesnt give me any option to reload any of my videos FML.
I did the above and wasted a good day and a half of my life reloading (on my pc) 300 songs, now I only have 1,200+ more to download to match my previous library contents. Thanks Apple.
PS: i called Apple a week before the iOS 5 release and an associate explained that it will NOT delete my library if I do the update---thanks much for the warning!!!

Every time I shut down my macbook pro, and start itunes up again, my music is all gone but the files are still in the finder folder. It's a hassle to create a new itunes library and having to make my playlists all over again every time. Ever since I upgraded my computer software with the software update, I been having problems. First, the mp3 files in the finder folder have been missing the artwork. But I managed to fix that and now the mp3 files in the finder folder are back again. Now my itunes has me worried. I deleted itunes and tried downloading the software all over again, to see if that would work, but it didn't. This is the 3rd time I'm having to create my itunes library all over again. I own a ipod touch 4g and I need itunes 10.5. The touch won't work on anything older than that. As of now, I redownloaded itunes all over again. Itunes 10.5.1 is what I have now, but i'm still worried it will delete my itunes library all over again. I don't want to keep having this same problem every **** time. I want my itunes library to stay in my itunes every time i open it up. Does anybody know what i can do to prevent this please? I tried everything, and I even downloaded a antivirus for mac. Why did the latest update delete my music from my phone and laptop?

I updated my iphone with the new ISO and it also updated iTunes. Some where during the process it deleted my music from my Iphone and my music folder on my laptop. Is there a solution to this problem? Right now I am not very happy with either of these applications. Not only that it add stuff to my iphone that I will never use and can not delete it from the iphone.

I tried importing a disk into my iTunes library, and it asked me to name the file. So I did, but now my iTunes has that name displayed on the top and all my music and playlists are gone. Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl.
Given your iTunes windows is currently showing up with the wong name you will need to hold down shift as you start iTunes, then click the option to Choose a library and navigate to the correct file. Should all be good now, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

How to delete iphone music library

Hi there.
I have had itunes match since it was released, but have it currently turned off so I can clean up my library a bit.
I have IOS 6.1 on an iphone 5 connected to itunes 11.0.1
I wish to delete all of my iphone music library. That is: I wish to remove all songs off my iphone but keep all songs on my macbook pro itunes library
I have my settings to manage songs manually and up until today I could delete the whole iphone library when I wanted (select all>delete)
I can check the songs, none are greyed out. I can right click and delete/highlight and hit the delete key or highlight and edit>delete. However it doesn't go any further.
The songs stay where they are on my iphone, on the iphone library in itunes and there is no prompt question, asking if i wish to keep the file or throw it to trash etc.
I have searched but seem to only find answers here about deleting songs one by one on my iphone. i have 7000 songs i want deleted on here!
I am hoping someone an help.

side note: I am finding turning off itunes match on my iphone settings annoying. I can switch itunes match "off" but when I leave settings and go back in, match has turned itself back on....URGGHH

Yep I understand it is in the cloud, I used to be able to take the music off there though.
I have just tried another method, Settings>Music>Show All Music
and this seems to have helped. It has gone from 7000 songs to 2!
I still don't want them in my itunes iphone library when I connect my phone....Any help removing the songs so they aren't on the iphone library in itunes would be a massive help

Restored ipod not updating entire itunes music library

after restoring ipod to factory conditions, the ipod does not "update" all the music in my itunes music library. instead, both the ipod and itunes freeze. what needs to be done to complete an update?

Typo correction on my topic post: I realized the only music I could see in my library was what was updated off of my new laptop.

Newest itunes update deleted my entire library and playlists.

Im extremely unsatisfied, so could you think of a solution apple? All i did was download YOU'RE update, and it reopens with 0 playlists or songs in any libraries. minus some of the purchased songs i dont even want. These updates are getting more and more terrible, so do you think you could actually fix you're mistakes? thank you!

Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
Would you mind telling me which anti-virus package you use? It may be that it is disturbing iTunes when it tries to write out the fresh database, as it does after almost any activity with your library. I'm noticing more of this type of problem than usual and trying to see if there is any pattern. It may help to prevent a repeat of the problem if you look at the advanced options for your AV package and see if you can find a way to exclude the iTunes folder from any real-time scanning process.

Cancelled unwanted itunes update loses entire music library

So last night when my wife went to turn off her Macbook Pro, it started downloading updates without her permission. Not wanting itunes to update, she hit "cancel" and then found out that her entire music library of over 1000 songs all purchased from the itunes store was lost!!

IPhoto update deleted my photo library

Recently i was asked to update iPhoto to 9.5.1 by software update. I unfortunately did so. When I try to open iPhoto now there is an error message that says that I do not have access rights to my iPhoto library. I cannot find the library anymore and it seems that the library was deleted. Cmd + alt does not help. 15.000 photos are gone. Thank you for this great update!

I found a solution: Instead of cmd + alt, I just tried to create a new library by starting iPhoto holding the alt-key. A dialog opened that gave as one option "open other library". I searched for my library and saw that it was in a hidden folder (no idea why this folder is hidden). I selected the library. Then the program sad that the library has to be updated and that I will not be able to use it with former iPhoto versions. Then the update bar appeared and after a while all my pictures appeared again. Yeahhhh.
But now, I will do frequent backups that I didi not in the past!!!

After latest update, half my music library won't play

The cover art is gone, when I select a song it will immediately cycle through until it finds a song that hasn't been messed up... I'm really confused because there is no reason why this would happen. A lot of the songs affected have been purchased through itunes. I've tried restoring my phone which didn't help, the music plays fine on my computer it's only my phone that's affected. Any insight on this problem would help.

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

ITunes update - podcasts and music library lost

A couple of days ago iTunes updated. Now, all of my podcasts are gone, and iTunes has lost its connection to my music (etc) library. When I reset the Library preference nothing happens (eg, my music doesn't reappear). And I usually get a sync error on my iPhone now. Help.?!
This is on a Windows XP machine; I use it just as a media server. Right now pretty much nothing works in iTunes but the radio.

If your are on Windows XP - SP2 and above, try this:
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match , Apple does not keep a backup of your iTunes library. Even then it is not the library as it exists on your computer, but some version of the media, and only media files, not playlists. Even then not all media are definitely available since anything removed from the iTunes Store since you purchased it is not available for re-download.

In your case it sounds like you will have to obtain non iTunes purchases from their original source or a backup you may have made at some time in the past.

I want to delete my music library on my ipad. How do I do that?

I want to give one of my ipads to a friend (I luckily have two) but I already had loaded my music on the old one and want to remove my music before giving it away. How can I do that?

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much. Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it. I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names. isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
