Update drama - corrupt firmware

Hi guys,
so after my second trip in as many updates I finally had a genius at the genius bar give me some insight into what may be wrong and why my phone goes into recovery mode everytime I try and update it from my PC.
I may have corrupt firmware in the software updates folder, which is a relief because I don't know enough about computers to diagnose and repair the problem myself. The lovely lady (Bec @ perth city apple store) emailed me a link to find the folder and remove it, negating the corrupt firmware issue and fixing my problem.
Not so fast, says windows PC.
After following the directions on the link on where to find the folder (Windows 7) I discover that the folder is NOT THERE. It doesn't exist. Even after making sure "show hidden files + folders" is checked, still not there.
Which brings me to my problem, how am I to remove the corrupt files if they don't exist? below is the link she emailed me. (I was told that it is an OLD link and it's for iPod, however she said replace iPod with iPhone and essentially the same thing) http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1813?viewlocale=en_US
Cheers in advance,
Cmad
UPDATE: Found he folders, the link was accurate I was looking in the wrong place...my bad. Hope this helps anyone else with this problem!

That data sheet was likely created before Windows 8 even existed, and they didn't bother to verify Windows 8 compatibility during any of the following revisions, since it seems to be a fairly old and relatively unused piece of hardware.  The way that Windows 8 works, it is compatible with any Windows 7 driver aside from any that are written to explicitly disallow compatibility with future versions of Windows.  The absence of "Windows 8" on the list doesn't mean that it isn't actually compatible.
I was able to get it working by uninstalling DAQmx 14.5 and installing DAQmx 9.9 in its place, but this is not an acceptable workaround for many.  I would like to know why NI saw a reason to remove the firmware update from its website, and what they expect us to do about it now, aside from using a deprecated version of its software.

  • The iPod could not be updated because the firmware file was corrupt.

So i kept having this problem in this thread here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1226490&tstart=255
I decided that maybe doing a Restore on my iPod would maybe sort it out however i got that message "The iPod could not be updated because the firmware file was corrupt." when trying to restore. I then searched apple and found out that deleting the 'iPod Software Updates' folder would sort it out, it didn't.
Now what's happening is when i try to restore it comes up saying i have to download this iPod Software 1.2.1 for iPod so it downloads and then when it's finished i'm still getting the error message saying the firmware file is corrupt.
What can i do now? any help appreciated please.

this article actually sorted this problem out for me: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304996

  • Software could not be updated because the firmware file was corrupt

I just received my iPad yesterday and I saw there was a new update to the OS(from 3.2.1 to 3.2.2). I tried to install it and after downloading the 450 MB file it gave me the error "The iPod "ipod name" Could not be updated because the firmware file was corrupt", so I tried it again and again got hte same error; so I tried researching and saw several possible solutions, including re-installing iTunes, so I decided to try it on a different machine, same error. I don't want to keep downloading huge files, so I'm wondering if anyone knows some possible solutions? I've tried this on both a Windows XP and Windows 7 machine.

Hi, I had the same problem: firmware was corrupted on the update. I managed to fix it by logging in to my administrator account and leting iTunes do a reset. I have no media or apps on that iTunes account so it was relatively straight forward. Once reset and update was complete I logged back into my user account and let my usual iTunes account reinstal all my media and apps.
Be sure to backup your iPad before doing a reset.

  • NSS6000 "Firmware Update Error: The firmware image file is corrupt."

    Hello All,
I've recently run into a problem trying to update the firmware on our NSS6000 to either 1.20.1 or 1.21.0.  We are currently running 1.16-3.
Each time after I click "Upgrade Firmware", the upgrade fails with the same error:  "Firmware Update Error: The firmware image file is corrupt.  Obtain another copy of the file and try the firmware upgrade again".
I've tried re-downloading the NSS6000_FW_1.20.1.tar.gz and NSS6000_FW_1.21.0.tar.gz several times from multiple PCs, and using multiple browsers.  I've tried several combinations of Windows Server 2003R2, Windows Server 2008R2, Windows 7, and Firefox, Chrome, and IE 8/9.
The downloads all appear to be fine, and they all can open/extract with 7-zip without issue.  The file sizes are always the same.
No combination of OS/Browser yields a different result on the upgrade attempt either.
I tried renaming NSS6000_FW_1.21.0.tar.gz to NSS6000_fwupgrade_0121.tar.gz to match the convention used in early versions (thinking that the extra "."'s could be the issue) but no luck either.
I was able to successfully re-apply the NSS6000_fwupgrade_0116.tar.gz firmware without any issues at all.
A strange thing I noticed, though, was on the "The system will reboot now. Please close your browser." window, it shows the device as an "NSS2000 2-Bay Gigabit Network Storage System" (please see attached screenshot).  I'm chalking that up to a simple reusing-the-same-web-code issue rather than the root of the problem, but thought I should mention that as well.
Has anyone else run into this issue, or have any suggestions for workarounds in order to successfully upgrade the FW on this device?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi,
Not sure what is going on i haven't see the issue you are having, can you try downloading both images at a different location; instead of behind your router. Also upgrade to .20 and then .21. Im pasting the release notes upgrades step.
When upgrading the firmware from v1.12 to v1.14, v1.12 to v1.20.1, or v1.12 to
v1.21.0 the Configuration GUI displays a "Programming images.." message
for more than 12 minutes (the time it takes to upgrade the firmware is
    usually 5 to 10 minutes).
The workaround is to wait at least 15 minutes to complete the upgrade and
then power cycle the NSS by removing the power cord. Do not try and
access the Configuration GUI during this time. (CSCsx17923) When upgrading the firmware from v1.12 to v1.14, v1.12 to v1.20.1, or v1.12 to

  • Corrupt Firmware - even after following directions.

I recently updated to itunes 7.0.1.8. It tells me there is a firmware update available. I download and install but get the "corrupt firmware" error message. I've followed the insturctions in Article ID: 304309 multiple times. I've uninstalled itunes and quicktime and deleted any traces of ipod and itunes software from the harddrive and registry. I've reset, rebooted and reinstalled and still get the same error. Is this just a bad file coming down from the server, or do I still have problems?
On a slightly different note. When I login to be able to get 1 on 1 chat, my only product option is a ipod shuffle or imac. I own neither. Because my serial number isn't matched with one of these products I can't chat with support. Been considering buying the 24" imac, but if this is typical tech support I may have to reconsider.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Problem: could not be updated because the firmware file could not be found

Hello, this is the same topic i have write in French. I have a problem with my ipod nano silver 4go, when i try to update my firmware, this message apears: "the ipod could not be updated because the firmware file could not be found" does someone know about this problem? Please excuse my english

Hey, i tried this, twicebut after iTunes downloaded the update, it still says "firmware file is corrupt" even after i have deleted the folder. Im on a windows operating system (my friends - GO MACS!!) and it wont work. Im trying to fix this for my friend, i was considering just formatting itto FAT32 with the explorer thingy. but that might make iTunes not recognize it. Any advice would be benificial!!

  • Resotring iPod Nano - corrupt firmware

Another example of the symptoms, from Feb 2010 - though in this case the devices work on XP but not on Vista (the reverse of my problem). Perhaps something to do with FAT formatting? Any ideas?
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/plug-in- ipod-and-vista-says-must-format-itunes/74fd7195-b017-4816-a593-19b613c6d1b5
The Ipods all work great on XP on multiple different computers.  When Iplug any into the new Inspiron powerhouse with Vista Ultimate 64, I geta microsoft box that says I have to format the drive to use it. Secondly Itunes pops up and says the device is corrupt and needsrepair.  When I repair it, it shows a successful repair in Itunes butonce the computer gets to detecting the now repaired Ipod, the cyclestarts over and windows says it must be formatted and itunes says it'scorrupt again.
My flash drives also required formatting going from XP to Vista andI found they were FAT32 which Vista doesn't like.  NTFS seems to workon all my computers, XP, Mac, and Vista.  I've formatted a couple flashdrives to NTFS so they work on Vista.  I tried formatting the Ipod toNTFS and it was successful.  Vista allowed it as a flash drive, butItunes detected it as in the process of repair.  So I repaired itagain, and again it finished successfully.  But after it was done, andwindows re-detected it, Bam, start at square one with Vista requiringformatting and then Itunes saying corrupt."
The 'itunes thinks my ipod is corrupted (and can't restore it), but it's clearly not' problem seems to be one encountered by lots of people over several [Windows] OSs, different versions of itunes and different devices. Has anybody encountered a fix?

  • While updating iphone software to 5.0.1, I am getting error message that Iphone cound not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible. Can anyone help me to resolve this issue.

While updating iphone software to 5.0.1, I am getting error that Iphone could not be updated because the firmware file not compatible.
Can anyone help me to resolve this issue.

Using iTunes 10.5.2.11 on a PC running 64 bit Windows 7
First did a full back up of  iphone using iTunes
Put iphone into Recovery Mode ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 ). Erases all user data and settings!
    Disconnected USB cable from iphone
Powered off iphone by holding down Sleep/Off button until slider appeared, slid to off, waited until screen dark
Pressed and kept holding Home button while plugging cable back into phone
I still saw the graphic on the iphone that said to plug into iTunes, so I unplugged and re-plugged cable. (I may have released the Home button too soon)
Recovery Mode alert came up in iTunes.
Followed all iTunes prompts to restore phone - it downloaded and sucessfully installed iOS 5.0.1
iphone did not appear in iTunes due to missing pairing file (that made me nervous)
iphone was now at factory settings. I followed prompts on iphone screen to start reactivation process
Eventually the iphone asked if I wanted to restore from a back-up (whew!)
A window opened in iTunes and I was able to select my previous back-up file for the restore
A full restore from back-up then occured
I also allowed a carrier settings update to occur when prompted (not sure that happens in all cases)
When the restore was done I had to re-enter some passwords, but everything was there
iOS is now 5.0.1 (9A406). The whole process took about an hour.

  • HT201210 what does it mean when i get a message "my ipod could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible"

iPod version shown in iTunes as "4.3.4"  (not listed in the OS drop-down associated with setting up this post.  Appeared to download the update OK but as soon as it went to install it came up with "The iPod "xxxxx" could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible"  Why and what do I do now?  I'm pretty sure it was trying to install 5.1.1

    - Are you updating clicking on the update button in iTunes?
Try a reset. Nothing is lost.
    - Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try deleting file and try again. It is located:

  • Do I need to install  Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel) and firmware

    Hiya,
I recently bought a new Macbook Pro,it is Mac OS X version 10.4.8, i am just wondering whether I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel)?
I also tried to install MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.2, however it says the computer doesn't need to install it. And I checked my Boot ROM Version is MBP22.00A5.B00. After the update it should be: MBP11.0055.B08 (MacBook Pro 15 inch). So I don't know what to do?
    please help!
    Thanks.
    Catherine

"Do I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel) and firmware"
You don't "need" to install anything. If you think you can benefit from the updates then go ahead.
"i am just wondering whether I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel)? "
If it came with 10.4.8 preinstalled, then you do not need to install it.
"So I don't know what to do?"
Nothing. If it says the update isn't needed, then it's already been applied at the factory.

  • The iphone could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible, can i get back to ios 7 as iphone 5s or itsnot possible!!!

My iphone 5s and model A1457 and even after i downloaded the IOS 7.1,2 itunes get me error "the iphone could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible"
some people saying that u cant get back and other saying yes u can
i wonder if i still can and how to avoid that error
    IOS 8 Drain battery like **** -.-" & wireless not working well -.-", that's so annoying ...
(if someone got a solution, i would appreciate it, Thx in advance)

You may have to arrange to take the product into an authorized
service agent for the iPhone (or other affected iDevice) to see
if they can apply the correct firmware update, to help resolve the
issue of upgrade; or if they have a way to put it as it was prior to
the attempted upgrade to a later iOS.
See all worldwide telephone support numbers
    Contact a mobile carrier
Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
    Visit an Apple Retail Store
Pending some release of another update to the iOS, you'd need
to have someone's hands-on effort to correct the issues your
product faces now, before another round of upgrade attempt.
Sorry that I have no exact method to attempt to resolve your issue.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Should I update my SMC firmware?

I use YES method to keep my both cores runing in its full speed over 7 seven minutes and returned no any random shutdown. Should I keep updating my SMC firmware?
My Macos is 10.4.6 and SMC is 1.4f8. I didn't have any update since this July.

Holding CPU at full load for 7 min without a problem does NOT justify that you don't need the updates. RSD usually takes time to develop. Despite of all the application updates, 10.4.8 and SMC firmware 1.4f12 are the two things you must have. They will make ur macbook run cooler by changing the fan behavior so you won't be pushing the limit of ur macbook as much as before.
Don't hesitate. I know some people think getting updates might not be a good idea after reading so many posts here. But keep in mind that this is a forum for us to report problems. The guys who never had a problem with their macbooks (which i tink is the majority) may never post here. Updates are not supposed to cause any problem, otherwise they wouldn't be released officially, don't ya think? If you did run into problems after update, it's ur macbook that is wrong, not the updates. It'll be better off that you just reinstall the whole OSx and get all the updates to obtain a clean system.

  • HT3706 Can't update the EFI firmware.

When trying to update the EFI firmware, I get the message: 'This computer does not need this update.' even though my firmware is out of date.
    My firmware version is:
    Model Name:          Mac mini
      Model Identifier:          Macmini3,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.26 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          2 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MM31.00AD.B00
      SMC Version (system):          1.35f1
      Serial Number (system):          YM9381HS9G5
      Hardware UUID:          4366F0EE-B742-5F78-B3C2-01C6D0DAD36F
    and Apple recomends:
    Mac mini (Early 2009)
    Macmini3,1
    MM31.0081.B06 (EFI 1.2)
Is the 00AD part of the version number in Hexadecimal? in which case it is a higher version and does not need the update.
The reasons for my confusion is that I'm trying to install new memory modules, which are either failing due to incompatability or due to firmware versions, so I'm simply trying to rule something out....
    Thanks

    Thanks,
Was just double checking, before I returned perfectly compatible RAM.
The RAM I tried was indeed "PC8500 DDR3 1066MHz 204 Pin", but I guess there are more subtleties than that...
So, for anyone wishing to avoid my problems, then it was:-
    Kingston RAM
    Part No: M51264H70
and this was the most info I could glean about them:-
    Speed: DDR3-1066 / PC3-8500
    Technology: DDR3 SDRAM
    ECC: No
    Unbuffered
    Voltage: 1.5V
    Form Factor: 204-pin SO-DIMM
None of the above conflicts with what apple recommend.
I had located the Crucial ones before posting, so I'll probably go with them as they are based in the UK.
    Thanks
