Update ETA for Sony Nex C3 .ARW to .DNG in Lightroom?

Hello, I own a Sony Nex C3 and would love to be able to use it's raw files in Lightroom. I have the latest version 3.4.1. I have the Adobe raw converter 6.4.1.
After reading these forums and scouring the net it looks like lightroom supports the Nex 3 and Nex 5 now but not the Nex C3 that I have. I understand the Nex C3 is new and it appears though that all the Nex cameras share the same .arw (raw) file, lightroom needs to accept the camera model. I wish the raw file was a common format across all cameras (I believe adobe wants this too:) but heres to hoping.
Anyone have an idea when this will work with Lightroom? Also anyone else have my camera and know a way to convert the .arw files to .dng to import them into lightroom? I own several picture software including Photshop Elements but Lightroom is so nice to use, dont want to go anywhere else!
Thanks for your time!

Although the file extensions for the different camera models is the same (.arw), there are differences in the raw files between camera models. For this reason, ACR has to support them all individually.

Your best bet at the moment is to convert your Raws to TIFF in the Sony proprietory software and import the TIFFs into LR. Keep the Raws though, as LR will eventually support them and you still can re-import the most important ones then.

Photoshop Elements won't help you, as the CameraRaw Plugin for ACR supports the same cameras as LR and new releases come out at the same time. The same goes for the Adobe DNG converter.

  • How to open a Sony NEX-5N .ARW in CS3?? camera-raw ext.4.6 is installed..

I cannot open a Sony NEX-5N .ARW file in CS3, and I have the latest camera extension installed. I really want to ope the RAW file, not convert it to Jpeg firt. Any Whiz having it figured out yet? Sony is not helpful at all and I suspect them to really wanting to force you tu use their much less powerfull software, which does not offer what I need (don't asl what I need please, not my question, sorry)
    Cheers!

Latest CameraRaw (6.6) can not be installed in CS3 - it's incompatible.
And CameraRaw from CS3 does not understand your RAW files from new camera.
The solution would be to use free Adobe DNG Converter.
Download DNG Converter from here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows (Windows) or here http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Macintosh (Macintosh)
Then convert your proprietary ARW files (you may want to save backups) to DNG - DNG is a standart RAW format (open standard), and RAW data itself is saved untouched, just metadata is organized in a different way.
So you will keep RAW image data unmodified and will be able to edit it in any application that support DNG - there are a lot, including Photoshop.
After that you will be able to open and edit your images in CS3.
Another way is to update to CS5...

  • Sony NEX-5R ARW

I recently bought a Sony NEX-5R but Aperure can´t view the RAW-files (.ARW). I know ARW is different for each camera, and the NEX-5R is new on the market, so I wonder if anyone know if Aperture supports it yet, or if the problem is on my local machine?
I have tried delete my Aperure-app and install it again (Mac App store), updated the latest version but still the same problem.

According to the supported RAW cameras list, the NEX-5R is not supported. Since this is a user-to-user forum, we don't know when or if it will be supported, only Apple does.

  • Sony NEX 5T ARW ICO Elements 11 and LR 4.4

I have a Sony NEX 5T. Neither Elements 11 nor LR 4.4 will open the ARW files. What are my options?

    Hi,
The NEX-5T requires Camera Raw 8.2 which is not compatible with Photoshop Elements 11.
If you are running on XP or Vista, about your only option would be to download the Adobe DNG Converter 8.3
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694
If you are on another operating system, then you can
    1) Buy Photoshop Elements 12
    2) Use the latest Adobe DNG Converter 8.4
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5739
    MAC: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5738
    3) Buy the upgrade LR to version 5.4.

  • Lightroom color profile for Sony NEX 5N?

Hi all. I'm trying out LR4 at the moment, and I noticed that the only available color profile (Adobe Standard) is way off for my NEX 5N. Colors look really flat and greenish compared to in-camera jpgs and RAWs edited with iPhoto or Aperture. I found this profile http://www.piraccini.net/...2011/11/sony-nex-5n-new-standard-adobe-color.html, which is a lot better but still not really what I would like to see.
So the question for any NEX 5N users is, what color profile are you using in Lightroom? Thanks.

Digging up an old thread here, but I'm having a similar issue. I too only see "Adobe Standard" along with other "Camera Landscape, Portrait, Standard, Vivid". If I browse to the C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\ There was previously no folder or files related to my Sony NEX 5N within any of the subfolders, except for the "Sony NEX-5N Adobe Standard.dcp" file. I've since found what I assume are supporting .dcp files for my Sony camera under C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.3\Resources\CameraProfiles\Camera\Sony NEX-5N and tried to copy that folder, which includes 4 profiles, and paste it within the C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\ directory.
Here is what's happening: No new profiles show up. I'm at a loss about how to install new profiles if I needed to. I've even tried downloading the OP's recomended profile from the piraccini.net site, but I'm at a loss with how to install those. No matter where I paste the different profiles (folder that contains .dcp files) they just don't show up within Lightroom 4.3. I'm at the end of my rope here, as I've tried everything that I know.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Camera raw compatibility is now available for Sony RX100 III for all Adobe Applications.  Why is it not included in latest Apple update?  Any ideas when new camera raw compatibility for this camera will be available?  Why is Apple so slow on this?

Apple can't provide it until Sony provides it to Apple.  Our only source for such inso is THIS.

  • Sony NEX 6 RAW import issues with Lightroom 4.3RC or 4.2

Hi all, having a problem with importing images from my Nex 6 or SD card. The image was taken using the 16-50 Sony Kit lens
Lightroom copies the images (RAW) files without a problem. However within lightroom the images get distorted as shown below. I have disabled all options such as lens or camera correction.
The exact same thing happens when I import the file in photoshop CS5 after converting it using DNG Converter.
The original file within the sony software is like this.

What you are seeing in LR is the actual lens-distortion recorded on the sensor.  What you’re seeing in the camera JPG is a in-camera-corrected image.  Adobe hasn’t gotten around to make a lens profile for your NEX-7 16-50 lens; however, there is one available from the user-community you can retrieve with the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader:
    Win: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5492
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5491

  • LR5.4: Why does automatic lens correction profile no longer work for SONY NEX-5N?

Starting in LR5.4, if I attempt to apply automatic lens profile corrections, LR applies a profile for a Hasselblad LF 18-55 camera lens instead.
Formerly, in LR 5.3, the 'make' in the lens profile pane automatially matched the EXIF 'make' of the NEX-5N; namely, "Sony", and the correct lens profile was applied automatically.
In LR5.4, I must now manually select make = "Sony E" to appy a "setup=custom" profile before LR applies the correct lens profile.  The minute I set 'make=Sony E', LR applies a profile that matches the lens in use: either the "Sony E 18-55mm F3.5-F5.6 OSS", the "Sony E 16mm F2.8 OSS" lens or the "Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS" lens that I use.
Another issue: I am not certain of this, but I swear the LR5.4 lens profile correction now *increases* pin-cushion image distortion, whereas it worked beautifully in LR5.3.  (I should take a photograph of a grid to see if my impression is correct.)  Are the lens profile corrections applied to a camera with EXIF make="Sony E" different from those applied to an EXIF make="Sony" (i.e., the NEX-5N)?  If so, this is a shame, for it means LR no longer fully supports the NEX-5N.
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?
(I believe LR5.4 may have picked up on recent product line changes announced by SONY, wherein NEX will be marketed as Sony Alpha E cameras, and I imagine they will be changing the EXIF 'make' of new cameras to reflect this.  However, that won't be changing the EXIF make of my NEX-5N.)

Why is that so and how can I get the proper lens profile automatically if the lens does have its own Adobe profile loaded?
    Frustrated ...
Pick the correct lens manually then choose 'Save New Lens Profile Defaults' from Setup drop down menu. Lr should remember the lens and use it as the default in future. See screenshot below

  • Lens profile for Sony NEX E 16mm f/2.8

I have made a profile at 1.15m focus distance (necessary with A2 chart printing) which has now been checked out by a fair number of users and seems to be successful over a wider range of distances. Created using f/2.8 and f/8 aperture sets.

Now all I have to do is find out where to send it to Adobe (a hidden bit of info so far!).

I have been asked to make a JPEG profile - here it is:

Works well on HDR tested image, also now submitted to Adobe. Uses same test shot set, JPEG versions.

  • Updated ETA for repaired NitroX for 3.1?

Can anyone tell me a revised ETA on the next maintenance build? Any rumors?
The last post from support hinted they were hoping to release it a week ago. Any details appreciated.
Right now I have to rebuild corrupted workspace metadata at least once a day to keep Nitro loading, JSP compiling isn't happening, and I am plagued by errors popping up in modal dialogs when debugging.
I'm dying here. Thanks in advance,
    Mike

NitroX version 2.1 which fully supports Eclipse 3.1 is just released. For more information about this build (425) refer to http://www.m7.com/whatsnew.do
    Great news
unfortunately the download seems to deliver just 17kB files which are invalid zip's.
The download of the trial-versions (hint from support) works better.
The upddate-feature has "network connection problems"

  • Sony Nex 6 ARW files

    Hello,
I have been trying to open the above files in PS CS5 and get a message that ACR doesn't recognize the files.
I downloaded the applicable DNG converter for ACR version that I have and it still won't open the files.
    Can you pls advise.
    Tali

    See...
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Your camera requires ACR v7.2  (Photoshop CS6)
You would need the DNG convertor.

  • Support for RAW (ARW) from Sony NEX-7

I have iPhoto 9.2.3 (629.52) on my macBook Air running OS X 10.6.8.  I successfully imported Raw photos from my Sony NEX-7 (ARW).
I have iPhoto 9.2.3 (629.52) on my iMac running OS X 10.6.8.  When I try to import these same Sony Raw files, I get the message that the format is not supported (or whatever that message is).
I downloaded the RAW camera update 3.9 and installed it on my iMac.  Still no go.
    What gives?  Any ideas?  Suggestions?

Ah, wouldn't you know it.  Found the answer right after I posted my question (I looked before . . . I swear I did).
I needed and have downloaded the RAW Camera Update 3.13 (I think the specific update I needed was in the RAW Camera update 3.10).
    Thanks . . . um . . . to me
    Cheers.

  • Sony NEX-5n Image Quality: Jaggies

    Hi,
it occured to me that I see a pretty hefty amount of jagged edges in slanted lines with Sony NEX-5n .arw raw files. Not in all, but in several. Now, when I open or convert such raw files with the Sony Image Data Converter or with Apple Aperture, there are no jaggies.
In LR, even when setting sharpness from default 25% all the way down to 0%, a sort of jaggie pattern still can be observed, allthoug very very minor.
This leads me to the "hope" that the just introduced capability for Sony NEX-5n files in LR 3.5 was kind of rushed and in the next version a better demosaicing algorithm will be provided.
At least the way it is now the image quality for NEX-5n files not 100% there where it should be expected from LR.

Thank you for your response. Oh, I'm glad that for once it's "you have to view the images at 100%" and not "don't pixelpeep, it's the print that counts" ;-)
Why yes, of course, it's the 100% view where it's most visible and what I would only refer to when commenting on image quality issues regarding possible problems.
And while I certainly can't pinpoint it the fact that until now I only encountered this problem on some images in LR only and not when looking at or converting the very same raw file with another software as the above mentioned I'm pretty sure it's not the camera which delivered the artifacts in the first time.
I have 2 examples which I converted to Jpg and saved at 100%.
First a red deer. Look closely in the neck fur: can you see the jaggies? You can access the 100% view via the loupe or icon: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ihj4B27L6M5inWXt9yk5-w?feat=directlink
I have a comparison of a conversion between LR at default, LR at zero sharpening and the Sony Converter (which btw doesn't look that good to me, I prefer Aperture which I tested also and which also don't show Jaggies, regardless how high I set the sharpening into it). Also this image can and should be looked at 100% in Picasa: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/N58Xc0Ag7zBA_ymIvRDc2w?feat=directlink
The second example shows a cross bike. Look for the jaggies at the rear rim and seat stay area. Interestingly, those jaggies are clearly there but in the same time a little less pronounced then in LR itself.: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/5vpwZ1cZ8hpTVodn3siGxA?feat=directlink
